A great and inexplicable beauty

Hello everyone. Good evening. Welcome to another meeting here via Paltalk. It is wonderful we are together again tonight.

This is a completely different work from all you know, because we are dealing with something unique, quite singular. We are going beyond beliefs. Here the point is that you "forgot" that we are together in this meeting, that you have entered in this space, in this room; the point is that you have forgotten and are here to remember it.

To remember is to go beyond those beliefs. You forgot that this, here, is a dream and you believe it is real. So, we have something here that I actually sum this up in two ways: the first, I called oblivion; the second, I called belief. The oblivion that this is a dream and the belief that this is real.

So, here we go. Let's see if we can break with this oblivion and this belief. That is why this work is unique.

Our work here is to go beyond the belief that this is real and to remember - because at this moment you are distracted - that this is only a dream. How do you do it? You begin by observing, watching what is around you. Things are happening or seem to happen around each one of us.

Here, the first thing is: do not get attached to it. Understand yourself, but you cannot understand yourself by giving meaning to what happens around you, as if it were happening to you.

Notice in my lines the accuracy of what we are saying. You cannot understand yourself if what happens around you gets the particular meaning of "someone" and that someone is you. So, we have already started this work. So, this is why it is a unique work and nobody is willing to that.

Wherever you are, any work you do, you are going to be valued. In this space called Satsang, there is no valuation of the "me", of this "someone". This can disturb you at first, but if you go deep and deeper in this work, in what I am pointing to you, showing to you, in the tips I am giving to you, then you will see the beauty of it, how much it is simple and wonderful - the freedom to remember and to go beyond the beliefs; the freedom to remember that this is all a dream and to go beyond this basic belief that sustains all the other beliefs that this is real.

When you watch a movie, you see things happening. When you believe that the tragedy is happening to "you", you suffer. When you believe that good things are happening to "you", you become happy. The mind, in its dream and illusory behavior, believes in suffering as well as in pleasure. It gets attached to suffering and tries to reject the pain.

So, the mind tries to fight off the pain and gets attached to the pleasure. What I have said now may seem strange. I said: "It gets attached to suffering", but, in fact, this is happening. All attachment to the pleasure is an attachment to the pain. There is no escaping from it, because when you are attached to the pleasure, you are holding the pain. There is no way to separate pleasure from pain.

So, the idea of getting away from the pain by getting attached to the pleasure is actually an attachment to suffering. That is why it is very complicated; the mind makes it very complex. Life becomes very complex in the mind. Everything that, in fact, the person is searching for is the pleasure and to reject the pain, but the pleasure he or she searches is the attachment to suffering. When he or she tries to hold the pleasure, they suffer.

You cannot neither hold anything nor sustain an experience, because there is no "anyone" real in this dream. It is a dream that happens without "you". The idea of "you" in this dream is this pursuit of pleasure, this attempt to reject, to get rid of the pain. This, ultimately, is the pursuit of suffering, the desire to suffer.

Therefore, follow this: I am saying that you do not know what happiness is. Your movement in the egoic mind is a movement in search of suffering and not happiness. All you do is not to find happiness, but to remain being "someone", in some sense of pleasure, in some kind of egoic fulfillment. This kind of attachment is pain, is suffering.

Is that clear? You may ask: "But why is it so?” My answer is: "It is so because it is so." You cannot see this, because you do not observe it. That is why I said the first thing here is to observe. Start to observe how the mind works inside of your head and in that so called heart, which is still in the mind too. The heart that you know is still mental. This thing of emotion, feeling, sensation that you call from the heart is still the ego and part of the mind.

When I talk about the Heart, I mean this Space of Silence, which is Consciousness, not that linked hearts, connected to images, thoughts, sensations, feelings and this frenetic search for pleasure. This "personal heart" is the person's heart, the heart of the "I", of the "me", of "this illusion". This is sustaining this belief, the belief of this dream, the dream of separation, of separateness, of a separate existence.

You must trust in this Awakening, which means leaving this dream, going beyond that belief. So, the Happiness comes (appears) in its own way, in its own manner ... Peace comes in its own way, in its own manner ... Love comes, Freedom comes ... All these things are synonymous and come without the thought about it. All you need is just to get rid of this illusion, this mistaken notion that "I am here in this experience, in what happens, being 'someone', having a body and a mind, being in this action." And also, "I am the author of it", "I am doing", "I am feeling", "I am thinking", "I am solving it" ... When you are free of this notion, everything happens naturally. Happiness, Freedom, Love, Consciousness, Truth, the end of the suffering, all this happens naturally.

It is not you as a present entity making this happen. It happens in its own way, in its own manner. When this illusion disappears and this belief ends, the remembrance returns. You have forgotten, but we are here working on it.

Understand yourself means going beyond this illusion of being "someone". So, here it is about getting deep and deeper in this real Heart, which is the Silence, which is this Presence, here, beyond the mind and the body ... Be quiet, deeper and deeper inside yourself, transcending the mind, the body and everything that happens around you.

In other words, transcending the illusion of "someone" in this thing. The mind is addicted to keep trying, doing, understanding, accepting or rejecting, agreeing or disagreeing, and it is necessary to release it. “You” are not necessary in it, in this agreeing, disagreeing, accepting, rejecting, experiencing.

“You” are not necessary there, here, now, for this is just a habit, an intellectual, sentimental, emotional addiction that pushes you away from this Consciousness, this Presence, this Liberation, this Happiness, this Love, this Peace. So, without "you", your life happens, your hours and days start to proceed as Meditation, naturally, without the burden of a thinker. Thus, everything happens naturally or automatically.

We are in Satsang working on it, working on the Meditation, which is Consciousness, Presence, which is to be disidentified from the experiencer in this experience, in this moment, in this present moment. No matter what is happening, it is not for "you". When the thoughts come to you, to whom are these thoughts? In whom are these thoughts occurring? Who Am I?

When, in that sense, in that feeling, in the talking, in the walking, in the eating, in the chewing, you no longer value the illusion of an "entity", the "sense of I" loses importance.

To notice this is simply astounding, something of a great and inexplicable beauty. So, you will find out that you have never existed, that there has never been a "me", there will never be an "I", and your enemies all disappear, as well as friends and all bonds. You will notice this imperishable, unspeakable Consciousness, this that is eternal ... This Presence, which is Omniscience.... That there are no others and the world. This reality is God. There is no such "God" that the thought formulates.

You say: "Master, it is easy to understand all this, the hard is to silence, it makes me anxious." Yes. To understand this is not possible, or to understand this by getting anxious, as you said, is easy.

This speech is not to be understood. As if you were  hungry and I would give you an apple in your hand and say to you just to look at this apple, to feel its shape, its color, its weight, to do just that and yet you are hungry. I did not present this speech for you to you understand, but to become aware in yourselves about What cannot be seen outside of Satsang.

You can be in this room, hearing to this speech, but being in Satsang is to "bite this apple"; it is not feeling its weight in your hand, its texture and color, nor admire it, because this is very intellectual and is still in the dimension of the egoic mind. Truth is in the direct experience, like biting the apple, because only then the hunger can disappear.

So, come to Satsang, in person. When you are in this room, stay in Satsang. If you are in Satsang, there is no effort to silence and no need of understanding. This is the end of the fear, of the anxiety, of the future. Anxiety is the expectation to get, to achieve, to arrive, and this is future. All we are saying here, at this moment, is not in the future or in the past, but beyond this present moment. It is in your Real Nature, which is timeless. It is out of time.

OK? Come to Satsang! Let's finish here. Thanks for the meeting. Namaste.

The end of this image you make of yourself is the Awakening

In these meetings, you turn to the recognition about who you are, and you have kept away from this for a long time. It is all a matter of self-forgetfulness! You need to turn to That what you are, which implies coming home. This estrangement from self is this self-forgetfulness.

Your Real Nature is not something. The thought in your head and the feeling in your body make you feel "something." You feel yourself like someone, you feel yourself like something, you feel yourself like something inside many things. Your experience of body and mind is the experience of someone - that is the experience of something. All this happens because you forget who you really are. This way, you feel one thing among many others; you feel one person among many. You forget this “I Am”, to be confused with the body and the mind, and thus, you see yourself as a thing.

It is like all this space in this room: you are this space, but as you forget this, you get confused with any object that appears here. You get confused in this trust, in this belief that you are something, whereas, in reality, you are all that space!

When you arrive in Satsang at first, you believe that you are going to solve your problems that you are going to end with your sufferings. You believe that Awakening, Enlightenment is the end of your troubles, of your sufferings. You are very concerned about this issue of Enlightenment. Before, you had several other problems, and now you have a bigger problem than everyone else. A problem that when solved, it solves all the others!

People write to me, and say: "I want Enlightenment!" And I ask: "Why do you want Enlightenment?" And they say: "My parents now are going to understand me!"… "My wife is going to love me!"… "I am not going to suffer anymore!"... But let me tell you something: Enlightenment is not the end of your problems, it is not the world at peace with you, it is not your problems all solved. Enlightenment is to come out of this position: "I am something", "I am somebody"... You forget your Real Nature, and you get confused with a belief, an idea, an image, and that image has problems, it has enemies, it wants the salvation... This image is this "something".

Awakening, Realization, Enlightenment, is the end of this image you make of yourself, the image of being someone, the idea that you are an object in that space. When that falls, the space remains! And of course the space has no problem. At that moment, you are this space and, as such, you are not stuck on experiences; they happen in the body and the mind. In the same way, anything can happen to one of these objects that are in this room, but it does not impact that space, it does not injure, it does not scratch this space where objects appear.

Therefore, Realization, Enlightenment, is not the end of your problems; is the end of the illusion that there is someone present to have problems, that there is someone present to suffer, to be hurt, to feel offended or rejected, to become depressed or to feel euphoric... Realization has nothing to do with what you believe because all this is still part of the mind... It is, then, when you move from that position in which you believe and feel that you are something to something entirely new, entirely unknown. You recognize who you are, your Real Nature, the Truth about yourself, the Truth of that impersonal space. Your True Nature is Pure Consciousness, Pure Space, Nothingness.

As long as you consider yourself a person, you are going to see the world as a person sees it; you are going to feel the world as a person feels it. Realization is to come out of this dream! When someone who is awake sees you moving in bed, crying, moaning, screaming, and realizes that you are in a dream (which is a nightmare), he/she sees your suffering, he/she feels pity for you and touches you saying: "hey you! wake up!" When you wake up, the dream ends immediately. Note that it does not take a second for the dream to end; it is immediately. Because of it, those who realize the Self say that it does not take time, because it is an immediate change; the change here is from the dream, of the ego-identity to your Being, to your Real Nature. This, in fact, takes no time, it is not a matter of time.

We cannot deal with this subject here. At least not now, for this is a very paradoxical thing for the mind that lives in time, that sees itself in the time, which created the illusion of time; everything takes a lot of time for the mind. It happened in time, it is the past; it is happening now, it is the present time; it needs the future, then there is another form of time. The mind is addicted to it, and all our work here is for you to become aware of who you are, here and now.

Here and now, there is no time, but the mind there is not going to not say it! For example, a work happened here, for twenty-one years; this was the stint the mind asked to leave its desire for continuity. It fought to continue for another twenty-one years [after Ramana appeared]. This does not require any time - what is here now, it has always been - but this only became clear when the mind was gone. You do not have to worry about that. This is something greater than you, greater than the mind... all this is a mysterious action of the unknown, a divine action, an action of Grace. In this action of Grace, this space reveals itself as your Real Nature. So, the sense of being someone, of being something, being an object in that space, instantly disappears.

It is like water to reach the state of vapor (in physics we know this): it has to heat up, heat up and heat up... it does not evaporate with ninety-eight, ninety-nine degrees... it has to reach precisely one hundred degrees Celsius. When this happens, it loses its state of water and becomes steam immediately; but it took a while to get to one hundred degrees. Awakening is something like this, it is a ripening, it is a flowering, it is a realization, it is when there is no longer ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine degrees of temperature. For the time being, this body-mind mechanism is in this position of identification with the illusion of an ego-identity, of a person in the experience, being confused with its moods; and working the recognition of this, the liberation of this, in this investigation, in this surrender, in this looking at this, again, and again, and again...

All of this seems very desperate today, but the day will come when you are going to laugh at all those efforts, all those trips to Satsang - heat in the Northeast and cold in the Southeast, thousands and thousands of hours of flight – and, in fact, you have never left the place, you have never stopped being who you are, you could not be what you are not. This is the greatest of all mysteries: you, being Reality, are looking for It. Then, the day will come that you are going to laugh at all this.

The problem is not in the desire for Reality, the problem lies in what the mind has told you about Reality, and it is in this you are trying to find it. What we are doing together is to see what not Reality is. You have been deceived by yourself for a long time, by this own mistaken movement of the mind over the Nature of Reality. So, you seek Reality in love relationships, material possessions, professional accomplishments, physical beauty, or all sorts of things...

Here, I find you in this nightmare and shake you to wake you up from this dream; I push you from the bed if necessary... if I touch your arm and it does not work, I push you from the bed to get you out of this supposed reality, for you to liberate all these desires. So, you do not want to marry again, for example, because you see that everything is the same; you are no longer worried about making a fortune, making money to get things, because you see that Reality is not there... that Happiness, Freedom, Love, Peace is not there. So, I shake you on the bed to wake you up, for you to abandon this nonsense...

That was my guru's job with me, and it is my job with you. How do I do this? The same way he did to me: He came into my room and pushed me from the bed. Twenty-one years is really a matter of shove! It is not enough a light touch on the right arm to take the other out of his dream, out of his nightmare; he has to really get a shove. How did He do this? The same way I do with/to you! You see a picture of mine on Facebook and you dream of me... You have never seen me on Facebook, but after coming across my picture, you look in my eyes, and I am looking at you and saying: "Where are you boy? I am waiting for you!" That is how He did to me! You log on here in Paltalk; listen to my voice for three minutes, and say, "Who is this guy?" You are browsing YouTube, come across a video of mine, and say, "Who is this guy?"

I am the end of your nightmares! I am not saying that it will be easy to show you the uselessness of continuing to trust this dream as something real to yourself; but I am telling you that I can do my job. When you stop believing in everything, you stop being someone, you stop being something, you stop being an object in that space, to be the space itself... the sleeping ends, the dream ends and the nightmare too!

God is the reality of your Being

You have been programmed, conditioned to see multiplicity, diversity, and phenomena as being your reality, "your" experience. So, your experience is individual, and diversity, multiplicity, and all phenomena are happening to this "individual." This way of seeing what happens, which is very particular, is the distorted way of seeing oneself in the context of life, of existence. This particular way of seeing oneself is, naturally, conflicting, heavy, frustrating.

You need to break the habit of seeing yourself within a context of multiplicity, of diversity, of phenomena. This programmed mode of positioning puts you in subjection to limiting beliefs. This is the common model, the model of the egoic, culturally and socially accepted mind, of pure conditioning. The true nature of all apparitions, of all phenomena, of all diversity, of all multiplicity, is this Presence, where everything happens; this Consciousness, where everything appears.

When you come to Satsang, you cannot expect anything from me, if "this something" is the confirmation of this or that belief you have. The purpose of this meeting is to reveal the Truth of what you are. Therefore, it is essential that you completely undress your reasons, your convictions, your beliefs.

Freedom lies in this flexible vision, in this ability to see things as they really are, and all the training you have received is not for that. You are trained, religiously, politically, ecologically, socially and culturally. You have a lot of politics and religion inside your head; you have many opinions, beliefs, and many concepts. All of this has to be relinquished, all these "birds" need to be released, all these "little cages" have to be opened. At these meetings, one of the many precious, well-decorated "little cages" you carry is the religiosity, or the spirituality. It seems like this is my biggest problem with you... or rather, it is your biggest problem with me. You have to let it go, too.

God is the reality of your Being, it is not a doctrine, it is not a model of belief or the result of many years of spiritual practices, nor something that you are going to understand only at the end of it all. Absolutely! The Truth, the Consciousness, the Reality, your Being, is very natural, it is very simple... Just like God! The mind transforms what is simple into complex, what is natural in something exceptional, extraordinary. The ego loves this: the extraordinary, the exceptional, the complex. You cannot approach such work this way, knowing so much, having so many certainties about what is and what is not. Give me an example of something you did not learn, which is yours, which is original...

For example, do you believe that Truth adapts to a culture? If you were born in a forest, in the middle of the bush, among the natives, and you were one of them, with their habits of dressing, eating, and you were brought to a city like Fortaleza and someone said to you: "Now you are going to dress like that, you are going to eat fried chicken and ‘baião de dois’ (a tipical food from the northeast)"... Would your situation get worse or better to realize the Truth? I only want to know if, from the point of view of Reality and Truth, someone born in the middle of the forest, being a native, would be closer to God than the one who was born in Ceará and eats “baião de dois”, sun-dried meat and “rapadura”. Who is closest to Reality, the one who lives in a culture like this or the one who lives in a culture like the other?

What do I mean with this? According to the spirituality that you have learned, whoever is closer to God does not eat meat, for example... He does not drink coke. Was what you have learned, because this is not "spiritually correct"? So, I am just giving you an example that you still have to unlearn a lot about what you have been taught about the possibility of Realization of the Truth about yourself. This is not cultural! This is beyond culture, spirituality, the law of ascetic practices.

Who is closer to God?

I have never smoked in my life. When I put a cigarette in my mouth for the first time, I coughed and thought it was horrible; I did not want to learn how to smoke. I was raised in a religious environment, I have never smoked or drunk, and heretofore, if I take a sip of beer, I find it bitter, horrible! But... Who is closer to God? Who is further from God? Will it be that someone who smokes or drinks whiskey cannot realize God? I am just giving an example about the way you are conditioned to models imposed by spirituality. In that sense, the gurus are also guilty of this, because they are the ones who invent all these things.

I had the happiness of having never listened to a guru per 21 years. The only Guru I used to listen spoke in my heart, and He seldom said something inside my head. So, I did not learn spirituality, spiritual culture. When He came to my life, He came to show me how to unlearn everything, including evangelical and Christian theology... None of this is real!

If you are seeking spirituality, you are in the wrong place, because it is in this duality, in this concept of multiplicities, of diversities that a great importance is given to spiritual phenomena. If your willingness is to realize the Truth about yourself, welcome to Satsang. But, remember, I am not going to teach you anything, because you already know a lot, you do know a lot... You know a lot of everything! The more you know, the more knowledge you have, the more you are in trouble, disturbed. Our interest here is in Love, not in knowledge... It is in Truth, not in what is right or wrong, not in good against evil, nor in the various beliefs, like heaven and hell, reincarnation, purgatory...

In these days, I heard someone who had written something like that: "Rio de Janeiro is under a very negative karma, so it is happening so much war, so much death, so much criminality."  What happens in your life is not happening to you, even if they take your car away from you and give it back to you nevermore because of an armed robbery. Has this ever happened to you? Has it happened in "your life"? But is this "your life"? You attach much importance to what happens, or to what seems to happen, and gives no importance to yourself.
Here is the inverse: I teach you to give all importance to yourself and not to what happens, until the day comes when you will see that what happens only seems to happen, but nothing touches You; nothing takes you from where You are or change what You are. One thing that is a mark of the apparitions is that they will disappear: the car will disappear, the house and the furniture will disappear; the husband, the girlfriend and the children will disappear, too; this body, the physical beauty will disappear as well. So... Patience... When you are 15, you are kind of beautiful; at 35, you are another kind of beauty; at 75, another one; and, when at 95, another. That is, a mark of what appears is that it will disappear.

So, our interest in Satsang is to discover That which is timeless, imperishable; That what the thief, time and people do not take; That which is not part of any belief; "something" that is here and now... always here and now; What sees phenomena as mere phenomena, multiplicity as multiplicity and diversities as diversities, but does not get confused with them.

It is necessary to go beyond the mind, beyond the world, beyond the sense of the "me"

It is wonderful to be together in this meeting where we can work on it. We are working on the realization of what we are. Our great demand is only one: we are looking for ourselves, for the Happiness we already are. We seek outwardly, but the whole Thing is here and now as our own Self, our own Consciousness, which is not a thing to be achieved.

In fact, you are always this Happiness, but you are looking for It in relationships ... This is basically what we are dealing with in Satsang. You travel to find It in a "relationship" with the place visited; you make great journeys, literally. People love to travel, to get in touch with new, unfamiliar places, in pursuit of Happiness on the outside, literally. So, they seek It and want to find it in places, in achievements and in people.

Ramana Maharshi (Bhagavan), while He was in the hall, He was there alone, but two little birds used to come into the hall and to lay by his side and stayed there. There was also a small dog that enjoyed doing this ... They used to enter the hall and stay there. One day Bhagavan realized that one of the disciples had expelled the dog hardly. As He observed this, Ramana said, "Just because you have a human body you think you are human, and because it is in a dog's body, you think it is an animal. Why do not you treat animals like they really are?" Ramana continued to say, "You have a human body and they have an animal body, but they are What you are: Consciousness, Happiness."

Therefore, basically, this is the point: the realization of the Truth about yourself is the end of the illusion "I am a person" (a person surrounded by people or surrounded by animals). Your True Nature is Happiness, and this is the Nature of the manifestation. All that your senses experience, touch, is just an appearance of this unique Reality - the Reality of Being, the Reality of Consciousness, which is Happiness. The realization of God, the realization of yourself, is the realization of your True Nature.

All thoughts and feelings that appear seem to exteriorize the phenomenon. Thus, you stand before the perception in which specific things are perceived, but you cannot lose yourself on these appearances. You should ask, "Who sees them? Who feels it?" Then, when you do this, you are not identified with these appearances and return to your Essential Nature, return to your Self-Consciousness-Happiness. So, the work is to recognize yourself as Self-Consciousness-Happiness.

This search for external Happiness in the experience of perceptions is born from this feeling of incompleteness. Now, to whom is this feeling of incompleteness? For this "I", which is the fake me! Notice that in deep sleep you have no misery.

So, what is present between that Happiness, that Peace, which you enjoy in deep sleep, and the non-Happiness that you have in your daily life? What is it that interrupts the natural Happiness of Being that you are here and now? Your beliefs, this loosing yourself on thoughts, the feelings and the image you have of yourself. So, you see yourself as a "person" with a name, a separate identity, a history, and when you see yourself like this, you do it – you forget about your Real Nature.

This work of self-investigation, of surrender, of Meditation walks toward the release of this illusion. By being identified with the mind, you assume this illusion, which is the illusion of “me”, of this false “me”, when you are quite stupid, confused, disoriented, stressed and full of fantasies about love, freedom, peace and happiness. Suffering is an imagination of the "me". There is neither suffering here, at this instant, nor in your Being, in your Real Identity, in your Real Self.

So, do not look outside, do not lose yourself on the mind – that is what Ramana meant. Because you see yourself in a human body, you believe you are a "person", a "human being", and because of that belief, you look at the animals and say, "There is an animal". However, in reality, there is only God, there is only Being, which is Consciousness, Happiness, and This is Love, Freedom, Peace, Truth.

Thus, when the mind stops going after objects, things, people, places, there is the end of desire, and when it ends, suffering ends. Therefore, when you turn to That which is here and now, within, to your Reality, to What You are, you are free ... it is Freedom! When the world disappears, the mind disappears. It disappears in the Heart and returns home. Therefore, you are Happiness!

However, as long as you stay in the mind, attached to it, you will be chasing after shadows, seeking for rest on the outside. So, it is necessary to go beyond the mind, beyond the world, beyond the sense of "me". It is needed to stop confusing Reality with apparitions.

Deeply saved inside us

In Satsang, we are talking about Freedom, Happiness, God, about ourselves... That which is deep inside us. Happiness is something that depends on the mastery of Being, but few ones in this world are interested in real Happiness. That is because few people are plunging inside themselves to find It, to be aware of It.

The nature of the mind is to turn to exteriorities, to the outside. The mind is interested in satisfaction, in fulfillment, in comfort, in pleasure, in desire... People come to me, but they are not interested in what I have to give to them. They are very distracted, very focused on exteriorities, on outward accomplishments. Happiness is not in external objects, but in us, inside us, and the mastery, the art of Happiness, is Being. It is not about having things like a new husband, a new house, a new sentimental, emotional accomplishment in which the mind is interested.

People are interested in their projects and thoughts, in the world of forms, appearances, colors, names, in exteriority. Beauty, wealth and objects will not give you happiness, neither will the knowledge. You just find It there, inside! All my interest is in this Happiness, and this is not a thing from this world, from the mind.

The mind is confusion, disorder, suffering. The mind is samsara, which means "the wheel of confusion", "the wheel of deceit". If you intend to realize Happiness, you have to become a master in the science of Being; you have to leave the mind, because it is conflict. Remain turned to the Heart, turn inward, go beyond the appearances, the names, the forms, the colors... Externally, on the outside, there is the hurricane. However, in the eye of the hurricane is the calmness. This is the present Truth, here, at this moment.

So, become a master of yourself. Find It in Silence, inside you, not outside. The whole Thing is inside and not outside. Misery dies when the mind dies, but you are addicted to thoughts, to feelings, attached to perceptions, to sensations.

Happiness is the realization of what You are

In Satsang, you are before your real and unique opportunity. In this meeting, you face a challenge, which is to let go of the illusion – to let go of your choices, your desires, your fears; to let go of what you believe will make you happy, will make you a better person, as well as what you clearly know that so far has only created problems to you.

Therefore, when you face this challenge, you are facing something, in fact, unique: the investigation of Happiness. The most precious thing you have is the realization of this Happiness.

When you are dreaming and you do not know it, it is hard to wake up. Generally, all dreams are like this: you dream and do not know you are dreaming.

You rarely notice that it is a dream; this is quite difficult to happen. When people come to me, they do not suspect the "dream" they are living. I have to tell them that they are "dreaming" and yet they do not believe it. I say to them, "You are dreaming!" The idea of being a "person" is such a difficult and complicated "dream". They do not believe what I tell them. When I say they are not happy, they say, "No! I am happy! I am happy because I got married, I have children, a job... I work in the Federal Public Service, I work for Temer [the President of Brazil]." These people come to me, but it seems to me that I am the one who should come closer and convince them that they are living a miserable life. I have to question the happiness they think they have.

In fact, the mind has no parameter about this matter of Happiness. Happiness is Being, and this is not circumstantial. For the mind, happiness is about having something that fulfills itself momentarily. Truth is the sign of the presence of Happiness - non-contradiction, non-conflict, non-fear, non-desire.

The purpose of this work is to show you this direct path, the path of this Realization. It shows you the importance of leaving aside everything you have. After all, what do you have? It seems to me that everything you have gives you a mixture of pleasure and pain, joy and sorrow.

However, my emphasis in these meetings is the importance to get completely empty from all that content, from all the accumulation. It is essential to go beyond this limitation, because nothing that the "I" believe to have, that the "person" believes to possess, can give you Real Happiness. Quite the opposite, this keeps you too much worried.

People struggle to get things, and then, they want to replace those things with other things. In fact, if you look at your life, you will notice that the more things you have, the greater your worries are to save them, to protect them and to maintain them with you. So, things do not give us happiness, they give us "annoyance", concern. If you have two cars, you worry about them, for the thief can steal both, not just one; the insurance and the tax are for the two cars, as well as the garage has to be bigger to fit them.

Now let us move to something that may supposedly give you more happiness... For example: two girlfriends. The concern with two girlfriends is greater than with one. Everything is very complicated when you have many things.

Happiness is the realization of what You are, and This is not in the fulfillment of things that you have.

Remembering God is remembering yourself

You are not going to change the outside, you are not going to save, fix, reform anything. You are not going to change the destiny of humanity, of man; you are not going to stop wars, end hunger, spiritualize humanity, nor save flora or fauna. People care about it; they live in their exteriorities, in a world projected by thought. Happiness does not! Happiness has already saved the world! It is like a picture, in which the image of the world appears. Once Happiness is present, the world is safe! So, do not worry about saving the world in the mind. Work the end of the mind and Happiness takes care of the world. I know that you have been taught to be good people, and it is possible to be a good person after much training. But a good person is still part of a lost world, without salvation. Without "person", that is, in Happiness, the world is safe, but it was not you who saved it. When you disappear, the world is free, because you are the disease, you are the virus, the bacteria. The illusion of "being someone" causes pain, it makes the world sick - this is the disease of the world!

You are the wickedness of the world, of this world that exists only for people, in people and with people. There is nothing wrong with the world! In the vision of Happiness, the world is what it is, but in the person's view the world is miserable, sufferer, it is sick, lost, it is in need of salvation. Leave the world alone! Leave the other alone! As long as there is "you," there is the other. One philosopher said, "Hell is the other!" I do not know if that is what he meant, but at least that is what I am saying ... As long as you are present, the other will be hellish; when you are no longer present there will be no more hell. Love is invincible, unpolluted, unbeatable. Love is the Nature of Being, which is Happiness. There is no hell, disorder, chaos, nor confusion, when there is Love, which is Consciousness, Happiness.

So, the lesson that is left for you is: do not wait, do not search, do not try to find, disconnect. You are connected all the time, accessing a specific world. Disconnected, this specific world disappears and Life is as It Is: Real! The world stands as it is: Real! Just disconnect! In India, they call this Samadhi ... Being, Consciousness, Happiness! It is the disconnection of the illusion, of the apparitions of the mind and its imaginary creations, of the illusory sense of a present "I". Disconnection ... Samadhi! That is Beatitude, Bliss ... That is What It Is, That is Happiness, that is when the world does not need to be saved; when there is no sick world in need of healing.

How does it sound to you? To me, it sounds something like this: Silence, Stillness ... Do not interfere, let as it is, do not get involved, do not get into these matters! "Be still and know that I am God!" - it is in the Bible, Psalm 46, versicle 10. Disregard the "person" you believe to be when it is offended, hurt, upset, distressed, abused, scorned, discredited, rejected ... Disregard the "person" you believe to be in those moments. Look how practical this is! Stop invoking your power, your royalty, your power to change what others think and expect from you. This is all fear, suffering. Disregard this, nullify yourself! Accept being nothing, being without ego. Ego, here, is the response that reacts very quickly in a frightened self-defense, that wants to impose its will, its desires, its controls, its determinations ... Pure ego! This sustains and maintains the misery, illusion. This makes the world be sick!

You need some time in that. You go to the gym once in every six months and expect some results ... It will take much time! Perhaps, before you see any result, the body may already have suffered an "attack", because the frequency is not this; the counseling is not to go every six months. This observation of what goes on there "inside" and of what goes on there "outside" should be done moment by moment. It is at this moment that you should observe the language that comes out of your mouth, the thoughts that appear in your head, the way you look at someone, the way you talk to someone, what you think about someone or about a certain situation, what your reactions to what happens are ... It is at that moment! It is moment by moment and not six months from now! You have to train this, work this, put your heart in this, sleep and wake up with this.

You wake up and remember God - to remember God is to remember Yourself. You sleep, wake up and the first thought in the morning is to observe the thought. The thought is: watch the thought! Then you take a step back and observe the thought that watched the thought. In the morning, you wake up like this; you spend the day like this, and then you have a sanctuary where you are devoting your life to God.

I remember when I was a child, I was always praying. I knew nothing about Meditation, about this attention, about the movement of the mind. I became curious and my father said: "That is the way it is! Close your eyes, put your hands on your knees and put your mind on God!" So, he taught me to meditate, even though we did not know what it was. I used to get on the bus, by that time, and I used to maintain my mind on God, because the mind was very noisy, full of ugly thoughts and I used to feel bad about it. I knew there was something wrong, but I did not know what it was.

Then you wake up in the morning and begin to set your mind on God, on prayer, on supplication, on the remembrance of the Divine ... Putting your heart on that image that remembers God, on What is beyond it, beyond the mind itself. Then the mind begins to become pure. In India they call Sattva, this power of making the mind pure. The mind, originally, is full of sins, full of desires, always turned to the outside, to external things, to objects. She wants a new purse, new shoes, a new house, a new boyfriend ... It is always something new! The mind is always bored of itself, but it thinks that it is bored of the old objects that it has. In fact, the mind is bored with itself, it does not endure itself, and then it wants something new. She stays in this replacement game, always facing the outside. So, you wake up in the morning and already put your mind on that observation. When you do this, you already put your mind on God, facing the observation of its movement.

The Illusion of Control

The mind has the illusion that it can control the things. One day, Ramana Maharshi made an observation to Annamalai Swami. He said, "People come here, make their salutation and stay here for a while. However, during the time they spent here, they act as if they were in a kingdom, in which they feel themselves like kings. They forget why they are here and want to act as if they were real kings, as if everything here existed to serve them. They want to be the boss here, and then they say, “Let's do it like this... Let's solve this, do that”. Then, they look at me and say, “Well, the Master could do this or that, could go throughout the world carrying his message.” People forget why they are here; they want to reform the Ashram and want me to change!"

Something interesting for you to observe is the illusory need for the mind to make things happen the way it wants to happen. You carry this illusion in your mind, but you must observe it. For you, happiness will come when things will happen as you expect them to happen. Whether it is inside or outside, you will always wish something from life.

What do the Sages know that is so simple? It is that life moves the way it is. Life sometimes will offer you suffering, which, in fact, is only its movement. Life does not care about you! You are not important to it! It happens as it should happen, but you interpret it as suffering. Sometimes you notice that life offers you suffering, but that is your false interpretation of what happens. In other moments, it offers you satisfaction, pleasure and fulfillment, which are also a false interpretation of what happens - it is a particular, a personal way of seeing what happens.

As long as you are expecting something from life, you will never be happy, you will never know Happiness, because the concept of happiness you have is related to satisfaction and pleasure that are accomplished and achieved in what happens, in what is presented. However, it is not always like this, because life does not live up to your expectations every time. Most of the time (not to say always), just because you do not exist, although you feel so important in this belief, life will surprise you negatively.

However someone may say that the Universe is conspiring to you - which sounds very beautiful and romantic - this is just a fiction; it is one of those phrases that the imagination has created and, behind it, you hide yourself, listening to talks about positivism, acquiring this thing so infantile that are the teachings about self-help.

It is proper to the mind, in its ingenuity, seeking to be taught, and it seeks it in the teachings of how to help itself to be succeed, to achieve some goal, to feel good about itself, and then it cannot ever call it happiness.

You never have one side of the coin without the other one. The nature of the mind is dual – there will never be good without bad, right without wrong, happiness without unhappiness, pleasure without pain. So, you cannot expect anything from the external world or you can expect anything, but not a positive and definitive thing, such as permanent happiness, permanent success... The success of today is the failure of tomorrow; the pleasure of today is the pain of tomorrow; the happiness of today is the misery of tomorrow.

Real Happiness does not come from life, it is not a thing coming to you. Real Happiness is an overflowing of your Being! It is not a thing that comes to you, it is something that just comes out; it is not a thing that comes to you, it is something that goes from here to there [inwardly to outwardly]... It does not come from there to here [outwardly to inwardly]. The mind wants to do the right thing, but it wants “its” right thing, which is not so right, because it is tremendously mistaken since its root. If the misconception is in the root, in the trunk, in the stem, in the branches, in the leaves, then you will find the same mistake in the fruits. The fruit of the mistake is the own mistake, of the confusion, the own illusion.

Everything you have received from the culture has coming from the mind. Culture is the mind and is inside that duality, inside this dual experience. This dual experience of the mind is truth and falsehood, pleasure and pain, right and wrong, good and bad... What it is born from the mind is part of itself. There is no Wisdom in the mind - there is much knowledge, but not Wisdom. Knowledge and Wisdom are different things: knowledge is cultural, Wisdom is existential. You have to go beyond the mind! Knowledge is dual and Wisdom is non-dual, because in it there are no opposites. In the knowledge, in the culture, in the mind, you always find the opposites and their contradictions.

My recommendation to you is: go beyond culture, knowledge and what you call "life", which has “deals” to offer you. Thus, Happiness is possible, because Happiness is not cultural and cannot be born; it is neither a fruit of knowledge nor can rest in it. It is something beyond the known; it is not part of the mind... It is beyond the mind and, therefore, it is beyond these opposites, the duality. So, it does not come from the outside; It comes from within.

When I say "within", I speak about the Nature of Being, the Nature of the Ultimate Reality, the Absolute Reality, that which is indefinable, indescribable, nameless.

Therefore, Meditation is beyond the mind, which is beyond the opposites. Meditation is the access to this interiority and is beyond this so-called "life" that makes offers to you. Perhaps, it might be the very own Life that is beyond opposites, but not what you call "life", because you call "life" what happens outside. What happens outside only happens, without the concern of "someone" interpreting it. Thus, we are facing Real Life and, in this sense, it is Happiness. However, if what we see as life is what happens, because we have expectations about it, then we are already in a false interpretation of what life is, of how it happens, of how it is.

The Non-dual Wisdom, beyond the mind, beyond the opposites, which is Meditation, is Happiness. It is not circumstantial, apparent, does not depend on what happens or what seems to happen externally. It means that you do not look for anything, do not expect anything from anything, from anyone, anything. You remain with what it is, without judgment, without comparison, without rejection and without acceptance.

So, you are beyond the mind, and that is to be beyond that "life" the mind knows. Bring Meditation to this "life" you know (which is the life the mind knows), and then it dissolves, disappears, and Happiness becomes present. It will not come; it will sprout... It will come from within the very own Real Life.
