Joel Goldsmith | Consciousness Transformed | What is Advaita? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast, and Master Gualberto is here with us again. Thank you, Master, for being here.

Master, today I am going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Consciousness Transformed." In an excerpt from this book, Joel makes the following comment: "Shankara rediscovered the Truth in the teachings of Buddha and revealed it in what is called 'Advaita.'" Well, Master, on this subject of Advaita, can you share your vision of what Advaita is?

MG: Gilson, we have a view of life based on a misunderstanding. This mistake is the idea, the thought present in us, that there is, that it is real, separation in life between "I" and the "non-I," between this "me" and life happening, between an element present "in me," which is the thinker, having thoughts as something that it produces... Our particular vision of the world is the particular vision of an entity present in life that sees itself as this experiencer having experiences; this thinker having thoughts.

Therefore, the idea, the way we deal with life as it happens, is based on this mistake, this idea of ??separation. So, there is "I," the world and life; there is "I" and God. This duality, this separation, this division, is something that thought has established within us as being the real contact with life as it happens. This is a way of interpreting the experience in duality. The ancient Indian sages called this duality "dvaita." It is a psychological condition of life in ignorance, and it is on this principle of ignorance that the internal condition of suffering for the human being lies.

We are living in duality, in the belief that we are entities separate from Life, we are entities separate from God. So, dvaita is this model of ignorance, of a mistaken life for this personal identity, which is this "me," this ego. There is a Reality in Life, which is Life itself, which is not separate from Life itself. This Reality is the Divine Reality. This Reality, this only Reality, this "One," this primary Reality, does not have a "second." There is no duality. It is the only Reality present. This Reality is the Reality of God. This is Advaita, non-separation, non-duality.

This encounter with Life is not about someone having an encounter with It; it is the Revelation of It present, and it is when this sense of ignorance is not there, when this duality does not show itself. This is the presence of the Vision of Life in Wisdom, in Freedom. It is the Awareness of God, it is the Awareness of Love. There is no unhappiness, Gilson, in your True Nature, because your True Nature is this one Reality. There is no separation in You, in this Reality of your Being, in the Truth about You.

This is the Reality of your Being and Life itself, and the Divine Reality itself. But we do not have access to This until we become aware of the Truth about who we are, which requires the comprehension of this truth of the "I," this truth of this "me," this "person," this ego. It is the discarding of this truth about this "me," about this "I," it is the discarding of this truth about us, in this duality, that reveals the Reality of this Being, this Divine Reality. This is the Awakening of Consciousness. This is Spiritual Enlightenment. This is the Vision of God. But our entire way of thinking, feeling and acting in the world is within this mistake, because we have, with great certainty, the "truth" about who we are. All this absolute certainty is the certainty produced in us by thought - which is, in fact, something completely false.

Thought in us falsifies, falsifies Reality. So, the truth of thought in you is the illusion of someone present, who sees himself separate from the other, who sees himself separate from God, who sees himself separate from Life. Comprehending yourself - this requires the end of the "I," this requires the end of the ego, this requires the end of this illusion, the end of this separation. This is what we are here, together, exploring with you, deepening with you. Life in its Beauty, Truth, Reality, is the Presence of Love. This is the Nature of your Being. There is no reason to continue life in this old condition, which is the condition of this ego-identity.

This continuation of this life is the continuation of this particular egocentric life. There is no Real Life here. What there is, is the continuation of a model of unconsciousness, of permanence in a pattern of mechanical behavior. This is the egoic consciousness. Some of our actions are actions that occur in this field, in the peripheral field of this consciousness. So, driven by desires, we take actions, but some of these actions in us may also arise from a more complex condition. These deeper layers of this consciousness, which is the consciousness of the "I," which is the ego consciousness, also impel us to actions.

Therefore, our behavior, whether it is born from this periphery, from what we call "conscious," or whether these actions are born from deeper layers within us, from what some call the unconscious - which is how we have divided this consciousness: into conscious and unconscious... Therefore, whether these actions are conscious or unconscious, when they are born from this psychological background, they are born from this internal condition of disorder, contradiction, and conflict, because they are born from thought. Thought within us, as stored memories of experiences that we have recorded - they are there, these experiences, in this format of remembrances, memories, of knowledge, because they have not been concluded. Thus, we are constantly, in the present moment, repeating the past, continuing the past. This is the life of the ego, this is the life of the "I."

We have several videos here, on the channel, delving deeper into this issue of actions. Our actions are actions that are born from the past and, therefore, are reactions. They are not actions that correspond to life as it is happening at this moment. They are inappropriate actions and, therefore, they are causing problems. And all this because of this duality, this separation. Here, the Vision of Truth about Life is the quality of action free from the ego, free from the "I" and, therefore, free from this duality. You, in your Natural Divine State, in your Natural State of Being, act and operate in this instant without the sense of separation and, therefore, without conflict, without suffering, without the contradiction of this duality.

This is what we are here with you, deepening, investigating, examining, for comprehension - not for understanding, but for comprehension, which are different things. Therefore, looking at this is something fundamental. Discovering how to realize This in this life is to flourish in Wisdom, in Happiness, in Freedom. Okay?

GC: Master, we have a question here from a subscriber on the channel. She asks the following question: "And what is the meaning of our existence, if it has any meaning at all?"

MG: Life in Itself, the very presence of Life in Itself is its meaning. The point is that we do not know what Life in Itself is. We are living in a psychological condition where what we consider "life" is the continuity of unfinished, unfinalized experiences. I do not face Life, at this moment, as It happens. I face what thought projects onto life at this moment.

Our particular contact of the "I," of the ego, with the present moment, is from the past and, therefore, from this continuity. Is there a new way of dealing with the present moment without the past? Then, yes, at this moment, Life has an extraordinary meaning, a significance of great Beauty, of indescribable Reality. It is the Divine Reality, it is the Reality of this Being, of this Happiness, which is the Nature of God, which is the Nature of ourselves.

So, this particular existence or this existence of someone, in fact, has no meaning. And it is exactly because there is no meaning in this that the human being lives in various levels of dissatisfaction, contradictions, dilemmas, conflicts and problems. And no matter how much he is searching for a meaning for his life, as long as this "life" is situated in this old pattern of thought, which is collective thought, which is cultural, social thought, which we receive from education, from this model of the world, much of it comes from this form of propaganda, formation of mentality, of consciousness common to all. As long as this is present, there will be no reality for this existence, which is the existence of the "I," of the ego, of this "me."

Life in its Beauty is pure Existence, but it is no longer this existence of someone, this existence of someone, in this format of conditioned mind, of conditioned thought. The Vision of Life free from the ego, the Vision of Life free from the "I," is the Comprehension of the Truth of Life without thought. Contact with Love requires the Vision of Beauty. There is no separation between Love and Beauty! Love and Beauty partake in Real Happiness, and all of this is something unknown to the ego, unknown to this existence of someone, this existence of the person. Therefore, the real meaning of Life consists in the Vision of Life, when It reveals itself. It reveals Itself without the ego, It reveals Itself without the "I," and here we come across the Mystery; and here we come across the Indescribable, That which cannot be put into words, which is the Presence of Bliss.

Why have we been emphasizing with you this encounter with Self-awareness, this encounter with the Truth of Meditation? Because unless the presence of Meditation is present in life, there is no Real Life. What we have is the particular life of the person, and in it is the illusion of an identity that sees itself present, searching for a meaning for its life - a meaning that it will never meet, that it will never find. Because the very movement of searching for meaning has no meaning, no value, no importance, since the Truth reveals itself in this instant, and it is in this instant that the Beauty of this meaning is revealed. But this is not for someone, it is not for the ego, it is not for this "me."

Your encounter with Divine Reality is the encounter with the Truth of yourself. There shall be an encounter with Divine Reality, always possible. It will not be in time, it is always here and now. It is here and now that this Truth of Divine Reality is revealed. But this requires, first of all, a comprehension of the truth about oneself. This door that opens up to the comprehension of God is from this Self-awareness. All imagination - because thought is just an imagination... Thought is a symbol, it is an image, it is a mental representation; therefore, it is an imagination - all imagination of the future to find God is something that is only in the field of the intellect, in the field of ideas.

Divine Reality is not in the intellect, it is not in the field of ideas, it is not part of thought. It is the Reality that is present in this moment, exactly when this conditioned intellect, when this model of idea, of thought, of imagination is not. So, the Real meaning of Life is Life itself. This is the Reality of God! However, it is not for someone, it is exactly when this someone is not there, when this ego has disappeared. Okay?

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel. Tiago asks the following question: "How can I get rid of the idea of ??being someone, since I see advantages in keeping it?"

MG: Gilson, look at the question! So, if you see a great advantage in continuing to be someone and ask me how to get rid of this idea... notice carefully that your question is the question that, basically, is inside most people. They continue to feel very comfortable with someone, with this someone they believe they are. So, any idea of ??getting rid of this someone, see, is just another idea.

I cannot offer you hunger, I can offer you food... I cannot create hunger in you. This work here consists of talking to you about food. We are not producing hunger in you; it is either there or it is not, and if you are not hungry, no one can create that hunger there. And when you are not hungry, you have no interest in food, in nourishment. So, in your own question lies the answer. If you continue to feel the great advantage of continuing to be someone, you will continue to be someone.

That is exactly what most people on the planet are doing. They are far too happy in their discontent. They are not aware of their discontent. Because they are not aware, they feel happy! So, if you are not hungry, no one can force you to be hungry.

Here, our job is to talk about food. However, it is for those who are hungry! This will make sense to those who are hungry, it will not make sense to those who are satisfied - although this satisfaction is the satisfaction of non-investigation. Although this contentment of this absence of hunger is something present because of the absence of investigation itself, of this honest look at what you are, in this context of life as it happens.

When I tell people that they think too much and that they are too busy with thoughts, and that they do not control these thoughts, and that these thoughts create many problems in their lives, they say: "No, you are wrong! It is not like that at all, I am fine! I think when I want, I think what I want and I know how to deal with thoughts. I have no problems, no problems with thoughts." Therefore, people are not aware of the mess they are in, of the complication of living as people, of living, of living within this circle, which is the circle of the ego, which is the circle of the "I." And yet, no one can produce in them a hunger that is not present.

That is why I have always insisted in these speeches on asking if what we address in these speeches makes any sense. I usually do this in all the videos: "Does this make any sense to you?" Because, if it doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense. If there is no hunger, it doesn't make sense. Only when the suspicion becomes clear that there may be something beyond all of this; that, in fact, there may be something beyond this condition of life in which you find yourself... Only when this arises, will a statement like this - and all the statements we have here on the channel - make sense.

Here we are putting it very directly: there is something present in life beyond this life, this "me," this "I," this person as you see yourself. You are alienated, completely alienated from the Beauty of Love, the Beauty of Freedom, the Beauty of Happiness. In fact, you have no idea what we are talking about when we use these expressions here, because our conditioning out there, the way we deal with experiences, we call those experiences "love," "happiness," "freedom" ... and this is very far from the truth... but this requires the presence of this verification. Until this penny drops, none of this will make sense. Therefore, our work here is for you, for whoever this makes sense.

You don't go to the doctor if you don't feel bad. You go to the doctor when you're sick. You don't have the longing for Truth, while you believe you're living the truth. The Reality of God is the Reality of your Being, it's the Reality of That which is indescribable, of That which is unnamable, possible for you in this self-discovery, in this self-realization, when there is the presence of hunger, when there is a real approach to ourselves. Okay?

GC: Thank you, Master, our time is over now. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who are watching the videocast until the end - for those to whom what the Master shares with us makes sense - I invite you to participate in the intensive weekend meetings. In these meetings, the Master explores in a much deeper way what he brings here in the videos. These meetings are much deeper than the videos here on YouTube, because in these meetings, in addition to the Master answering our questions live, something much more powerful happens. Because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, he shares a field of Energy, a field of Presence, and in the meetings, we end up taking a ride on this Energy of the Master. And, being taken by this ride with the Master, in a spontaneous and natural way, we enter a meditative state, silence our minds and can have a glimpse of what is beyond intellectual understanding.

So, here is the invitation. In the first comment, pinned, there is the WhatsApp link to be able to participate in these meetings. And go ahead, give a "like" to the video, subscribe to the channel, leave comments here with other questions for us to bring to the next videocasts. And, Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.
