Satsang - The illusion of this “Me”

Notice how it is simple to live without the sense of a separate identity. Notice how it is simple to live without the sense of "me", of  "myself" backing up a choice, an opinion, a conclusion, a feeling, an emotion. All these come and go, all these do not have the reality of a fixed identity behind.

This existential movement is Life itself, without an entity behind. The separated names, the separated  bodies, are just something like a content of opinions, a content of  thoughts and choices; for example, what are you going to eat, or something like that, with no importance.

The problem arises when there is a sense of division, a sense of separation, in which the idea of an "I" who is in control, being the author of the actions, being responsible for the actions, being able to do anything, know anything, with his convictions and absolute certainties.  This creates conflict; it keeps this illusion, the illusion of a suffering one, the illusion of "someone" unhappy, the illusion of "someone" without peace, the illusion of "someone" hopeless.

"Someone" hopeless in the need of fulfillment, of consolation, of comfort.  "Someone" without peace waiting to achieve it at some point, somewhere.  "Someone" unhappy, searching to find happiness tomorrow through some emotional fulfillment, professional, financial, affective or intellectual.

That is why we fill ourselves with all kinds of information, believing in happiness through the intellect. Then we fill ourselves with all kinds of devices to find peace. Therefore, through new relationships, new contacts, we find emotional fulfillment, the so-called "love in relations", "happiness of love."

So we stay in this situation, based on the sense of self-importance, created by this illusory image behind creations and answers to life's simple manifestations of existence such as thought, hunger, feelings, and so on. Is it not that? It is so!

The importance of leaving the doer

Hello everyone!

Good evening, welcome to one more meeting trough Paltalk.

We are here once more in a meeting, making use of this online tool. That means another opportunity to settle together, although it is not a face-to-face meeting, it is alive via Paltalk. It is another opportunity for us to be present in the heart.

We are in these meetings finding out the importance of abandoning the act of doing something. We are finding out the Grace to abandon this sense of ownership, this idea of doing something. The mind will transform anything into “doing”. When we speak of “not doing”, it is possible that the mind keeps trying to do exactly this for the rest of its life: “not doing”, by trying to make itself not to do something. That is what I call the great mind’s game. The mind is a specialist in this game. 

It is interesting that you notice in these talks what we are indicating here. It is important that you perceive in these talks that we are signalizing to you this trick of the mind. The mind is always transforming everything into a “doing something”. The mind is always busy with doing, always busy with accomplishments.  And when we talk about the importance of not doing, the mind takes this and transforms this “not doing” into a “doing”. It will get busy for the rest of its life trying to do this. Trying not to do anything, and that way it performs an action. 

All these mind’s desires - to make something, to acquire something – is a trial to save itself since the mind does not want to die. So, the mind creates all its objectives, all its ideal dreams, and as it works for these dreams, the mind is always changing and doing something. The mind’s nature is to run away from the past, from an illusory past. And it is aiming at the future that it has invented itself. Therefore it is always trying to scape from an illusory past, or aiming at a made up future. It is always this continuity. This is how you feel as a person. As a person you always have something to realize, something to get, something to reach.

What I am trying to say with this is that you do not stop. There is always this ego’s movement, this person’s movement, this mind’s movement. So Real Realization is not possible. The art of Being is not possible…Happiness is the art of Being; it is not about doing, it is about Being. It is only possible to Be when you are quiet, when there is no longer this agitation. When you are not attached to these wonderful games that the mind performs. These games that the mind creates, always waiting, always running away, or trying to reach something. 

In these meetings we have been indicating to you the importance of staying quiet, the importance of Being. The Self is something present in this instant, without any movement.  The movement is always from the “I”, from the ego, from the mind. As I have just told you, the mind listens to this and tries to find out this quietness. This quietness that the mind finds is still the quietness that the mind itself can produce. It makes the quietness. It is still its own movement. When we talk about Consciousness, in Presence, in Self, we talk about this fall into nothing. This fall into nothing is the end of the thought. It does not mean the non-uprising of the though. We are talking about the end of the thought’s activity, of the thought’s movement.  This is the end of suffering. The Real Liberation, the Real Peace, the Real Freedom, the Real Happiness. This is the Nature of the Consciousness, the Nature of the Self. It is the art of Happiness. 

The mind becomes terrified when it hears about the end of its story, about the end of its past, the end of its future, of its realizations and acquisitions, the end of its world. So it says, “it is all about me”. It feels, “this is all about me”. And it does not want to loose this. And nevertheless, what I have already said before, in different words, here is the secret, it is in this lost, in this non-action, in this non-activity, in this non-mind’s movement that is this Liberation, this Realization. The thing we all desire, more deeply than anything. But that means to loose, and the mind does not want to loose. That means to stop, but the mind does not want to stop. It means not doing, but the mind wants this “not doing”. It means this dive into nothing. Nothing that is plenitude. The dive in this plenitude is the nothing, the total nothing, the total plenitude. Which means clearly the death of the mind. 

While we are following this talk, let’s look at this, at the mind’s action, this doing of the mind, this chattering of the mind. Everything that the mind sees is the interpretation, it is its own reading, and this never satisfies. All these interpretations made by the mind are partial, fragmented. This always keeps the sense of “me”, of “I”; this busy mind, the mind in this doing, always searching, always wanting, interpreting, deducting, babbling…always seeing the world through its own history, through projections, labels and interpretations. 

In this constant making, there is no space, no silence, as this occupation is pure unconsciousness, while this “nothing”, this wholeness is Silence and Consciousness. The mind is noise, is static, is the sense of this busy “me” with itself, with its own interests, desires, projections, interpretations, labels, as we have spoken before. Therefore we are never in straight contact with Life.

You are listening here several words, but forget these words. Instead of these words, listen to the sound. Stay with the sound of the words and not with their meaning. It is as to listen to a singing bird. It is as to look to a flower without the need to describe it, its name, its color, if it smells or not. This means this “nothing”, this plenitude, this space, this emptiness, this something that will say more to you, communicate more to you, it will bring this direct feeling, this direct perceiving, without the translations that the mind does. The mind loves to translate, to interpret, to analyze, to conceptualize, to understand. Self is something that it does not make itself understood. There is no need to understand the Self. Self is something out of the understanding. Self is Consciousness. You cannot understand Freedom. You cannot understand Peace. You cannot understand the Truth. You cannot understand Love. You cannot understand Happiness. When there is Happiness, there is no need to understand what that means. When there is Love, there is no need to understand what that means. When there is Peace, what is the need to understand what that means?  What does that mean?  Who cares? Where does the mind come in bringing assumptions about it? Making conclusions about it?

Now, there comes a question.

Q: I would like to know if someone who spends the day in idleness has more difficulty with the talkative mind?

MG: Being idle, truly idle, is to be without any internal movement. It does not mean to be without external movement. If the body is still, sited, laid down, and the mind does not stop, this is not truly idleness.  This is being with the ego very busy. In order to be truly idle, it is necessary to be free of the ego, free from the sense of doing of the talkative mind, the active mind, the mind in its doing movement. You stay most of the day in a great internal activity, a great internal movement, a great internal doing, a very talkative mind. It is curious how this talkativeness, this great mental activity from the ego, can make the body very lazy. Or very active. So this does not mean to stay quiet, to be free of this doing of the mind. Did you hear this?

Is there any other question?

Q: Master, who wants to kill the mind? It seems strange the mind wanting to kill the mind itself. Sometimes it gets confusing. I do not think I know who I am anymore...

MG: OK, who wants to kill the mind? It is a good question. Who is disturbed by the mind? Who wants to get rid of the mind? To whom the mind disturbs? Who feels disturbed by the mind? The mind chases this dream. The mind wants to kill the mind. The mind wants to get rid of the mind. The mind has this ideal. The mind says:  “I have to get rid of the mind”. The mind says: “ I will be happy when I kill the mind”, “I will have peace when I kill the mind”, “suffering will end when I kill the mind”. This is the game, the doing game, which the mind gets busy with. It is trying to do this, it will keep its whole life trying to get rid of the mind. The mind says: “I do not stand the mind”. The mind says: “I need to be free from this mess”. The mess trying to be free of itself. Do you see what we are saying? The confused mind trying to get rid of the mess that it produces. In the mind, the effort to get rid of the mind. 

And the end of the question says: “sometimes it gets confusing, I do not know who I am anymore”. How great. If you can stay with this “not knowing”, if you can stay with this “not wanting to know”, it is possible that this confusion ends. And that all knowledge about this belief also finishes. This belief of Who you are. When you arrive in Satsang you find out that the idea you used to have about yourself was just an image, a belief. You find out that in fact you do not know who you are, nobody knows who they are. It is not possible to know. This Consciousness that is this Presence, that is Self, is only Self, Presence and Consciousness.  It does not know anything... We can call then, of divine ignorance.
