Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi | Pure Consciousness - Part I

Let´s go! We are going to talk with you, today, about this important matter, the matter of Consciousness. Let me put something here for you, which I think is very important. It is necessary that you understand this matter of Consciousness. What is Consciousness? What, in fact, does this represent? Note: Consciousness is You in your Natural State. In general, human being knows what it is to be conscious, but he does not know what it is Consciousness, what it means to remain in this Extraordinary Space called Consciousness, this Real Place of your True Nature.

We are going to talk about this, but before I want to ask you something, something simple: click there and subscribe to the channel. This is something very important for this channel to also reach other people who are in this work, in this search of Self-realization. Another thing: give it another click and like the video. This is also very important for us to reach, with this simple click, another person to get in touch with this work, to get to know, to get closer to this work, and, if possible, you can share and also post a comment. Click on the bell – there´s a little bell there – and then you will receive notifications. OK? But let´s go! But do not forget to do this. Do it. This is very important, and this is the only contribution I ask of you here at this meeting.

Let's go!

Let´s talk about this Consciousness, about this Divine and Natural State of Being we are. As I said just now, in general human being is conscious, but he does not assume the Truth of his Being, because the Truth of your Being is not something that is assumed or realized when you are simply conscious.

Mankind, human being, lives in a conscious way, but, in truth, this "being conscious" is something that means only a state, still as a part of the sleep state. Here, we are focusing, with you, on the importance of assuming this Consciousness. Consciousness is something completely different from being conscious.

Human being can be conscious, thoughts present, emotions present, feelings present. This does not happen, in general, in deep sleep. In his waking state, he is conscious, but this does not represent being in your Natural State of Pure Consciousness.

When we are speaking of Awakening or Divine Realization, when we talk about our Essential Nature, we are speaking about the importance of being as Pure Consciousness, of being in your Pure and Real Being, of experiencing the Truth that You are, the Truth of your Real Nature.

So, our True Nature is pure Consciousness. So, our work of Self-realization, our work in this direction, is the work for assuming this Truth. For this, we have been talking about the great importance of self-inquiry, of the extraordinary importance of Meditation. Only by self-inquiry, you can become aware of yourself. From the moment you become aware of yourself, you have entered this new dimension, which is the dimension of the real possibility to Awakening, to leave this "being conscious" for this new dimension, which is the dimension of Pure Consciousness.

As Pure Consciousness, you experience your Divine Nature. As Pure Consciousness you experience the Nature of the Truth about yourself. Some have called This Awakening or Realization of God, others called This Enlightenment. The fact is that Consciousness is Love, Consciousness is Intelligence, Consciousness is Freedom, Consciousness is God.

This is a way for us to approach it, signalizing something outside the mind, outside something we may simply be conscious of. When this Consciousness is present, this feeling of "being conscious" is like the moon, the moon's shine in front in the presence of the sun. Your work – and this must be an applied, dedicated, patient and also lovingly work – your work in this life, this dream, is Awakening in the midst of all this.

The common state of a human being, in this "being conscious," is a state of complete sleep. "Conscious," by "being conscious," we get married, have children, the family arises, material achievements also happen, but this does not represent the Truth of your Being, What You are.

This explains why, despite all achievements that human being has in this life, none of this represents, for him, Real Love, Real Peace, Real Happiness. This is simply because he is in a "sleep state." In this "state of sleep," he is, yes, conscious, but that does not mean that he is, really, Awake.

And we propose this to you in Satsang, the wonderful possibility of Awakening, the wonderful possibility of Self-knowledge, the Recognition that You are Consciousness, the Recognition that there is only Consciousness, and this is the Reality in all existence, this is the Reality in the whole manifestation.

The present sense of duality, the sense of separation between you and life, between you and the world, between you and the other, is something present because of this "sleep state." So, simply being conscious is not enough. Another example of this that you are, certainly, conscious, for example, while dreaming. At night you sleep and then you have a dream, and in that dream, you are concious, even to the point to remember it, after you wake up, in the waking state; the memory of this dream. And, in this dream, you see the world, you see people, you relate to them, you have a life, maybe, different than what you have in the waking state, but it is a life as conscious as this one here, in your waking state. Is it not like this?

Suddenly, you wake up, open your eyes in the bed and realize that it was just a dream. So, it is "being conscious" but does not represent Consciousness; it is "being conscious" in the "sleep state," and what I want to mean is that exactly the same thing is happening here, now, in what we call the "waking state."

You believe you are awake. In fact, you are still sleeping. You believe that all this experience of life, physical, emotional, sentimental, and all experience in this contact with senses, with touch, sight, with hearing, etc., you believe that all this is happening in your state of consciousness, as Pure Consciousness. In Reality, all this is happening in your state of "being conscious," in your "state of sleep."

So, human being is sleeping, human being is unaware of his Divine Nature, which is Consciousness.

What differs the ordinary human being from a Realized Being, like Mooji, like Ramana, like Eckhart Tolle, like Jiddu Krishnamurti and many others, what differs a common human being – when I say common it is in this sense... the one still in the process of Awakening – from the One who has really already Awakened, the difference is that for Eckhart Tolle, or Mooji, or Ramana, there is only Consciousness.

This Consciousness is the Reality of your Divine Nature. This Consciousness is the Reality where the world, the body and everything else appear. This Consciousness is the Reality of your Being. So, the difference is that a Realized Being lives his Divine Nature, lives in his True Nature, lives in his Real Nature. In Reality, he is Conscious of What He is. Those who are only conscious – and this is a form of being in sleep, being asleep –, have not yet assumed the Beauty, the Truth of their Being.

Look at Ramana and you won´t see in him emotional conflicts, psychological suffering, and it is so with one who lives already within this Pure Consciousness, this Pure Consciousness that You are. Now, apart that, there is not any difference.

You, in your Being, are Pure Consciousness. This will never cease to be.
