Joel Goldsmith | Consciousness Transformed | How can we free ourselves from suffering? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast. Once again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you, Master, for being here.

Today, I am going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Consciousness Transformed." In an excerpt from this book, Master, Joel makes the following comment: "We must avoid suffering from every material demand that arises." Regarding this subject of suffering, can the Master share his vision of how we can overcome it, how we can free ourselves from suffering?

MG: Gilson, your question is: "How can we free ourselves from suffering?" Note that we have several forms of suffering. What specific suffering are you talking about? See, from a general point of view, the egoic mind, this mind of the "I," because of this sense of separation, lives in fear. So, fear, for example, is an ever-present form of suffering in human beings. So, to free ourselves from suffering is to free ourselves from this sense of separation, this sense of duality. That is when fear, for example, disappears.

How can we free ourselves from suffering? This is like asking: How do you fix a car? Look, you know how to drive a car. You get in your car and hit the road, but you don't know how to fix your car if it breaks down. You don't know how to fix it, because you're not a mechanic; you're not a mechanic because you've never studied it, you work in another profession. In life, we don't know how to deal with suffering, because suffering is a breakdown that happens in our psychological car, in our mind. We're "traveling" all the time with the mind, and the mind keeps breaking down, but we don't know how to deal with this situation, because we don't know how to fix the mind, we don't know how to deal with the mind, because we've never studied what the mind is, how it works for each of us.

So, the mechanic studies mechanics, the engineer studies engineering, and the doctor studies medicine. So, when he comes across a problem... any of these specialists, when faced with a problem, they can help. Here, there is this "sense of person." This "sense of person" in each of us is broken, it has a problem, because this "sense of person" in us sees itself as an element separate from Life. Because of this, suffering is present; this is the breakdown of this "person." This "person" is this "I." We do not know the Truth about who we are, because we have never studied and, because we have never studied, we do not know how to deal with ourselves, nor with life, nor with others. And because we do not know how to deal with any of this, we are functioning in a broken state, with a problem, with suffering.

So, there is suffering, disorder, fear, confusion, because of ignorance. If your car breaks down on the road and you are not a mechanic, you have to call a tow truck. This car will have to stop at a mechanic's shop and a mechanic will attend to this situation, not you. Here, we are also in a very, very delicate situation. We are in contact with Life as it happens. We have a way of responding to

Life, and this way of responding is inadequate, due to the presence of the "person," because the "person" is ignorance, the "person" is the breakdown, the "person" is conflict, the problem, the "person" is suffering. Getting closer to the Truth about Oneself is discovering the Truth that there is no "person." The discovery of this Truth represents Freedom; this Freedom is the end of problem, of conflict, of fear, of suffering.

Therefore, to your question "How to get rid of suffering?", become aware of the truth of the person that is you. Get to know yourself, understand yourself, self-investigate yourself, study yourself, get closer to Self-awareness, see the importance of this for yourself. You cannot deal with a problem without understanding what the problem is, and you cannot get closer to understanding what the problem is without looking closely at what it represents. So, you see, we are suffering, but we do not understand the suffering, because we do not look closely at it. We are possessive human creatures, for example. We do not realize that this possession is an idea, in us, of possessing, which is something completely false, because in Life there is no one to own something. Everything in Life is with us for a time and then disappears, and if you believe that you are the possessor, you believe that you are someone who controls, dominates, and sustains with you. You have the belief that this is yours.

See, this is an example, the example of this illusion of the possessor, with what he possesses. There is no such possessor, because nothing can be possessed. Notice the implication of this, what, for example, this represents. We could, here, cite various forms of situations of suffering due to this illusion, which is present in us, which is the illusion of this "I," of this "person," who here in this case, in this particular case, this "person" believes that he is the possessor and has things. Notice the illusion of this! You take absolutely nothing with you when death occurs, because nothing is yours. So, if we want to investigate the truth about the problem of suffering, we have to investigate the nature of this "person," who carries all these illusory aspects of identity. And one of these aspects we have just mentioned: it is the aspect of this "person" who possesses. Notice, this sustains fear, because this possessing generates attachment, dependence; this mistake of holding on, controlling, this generates jealousy. All of this is within this illusion of possession. This is suffering!

You come and ask: "How to get rid of suffering?" Get rid of the possessor, get rid of this idea of being "someone," which is this illusion of the "person" in relation to Life, in relation to objects, in relation to people, in relation to ideas. All of this is favoring internal states of conflict, of suffering, of breakdown. This is what we are investigating here with you. The Awakening of the Truth about Oneself is the Awakening of Wisdom, and when there is Wisdom, there is no suffering. When there is Wisdom, there is no confusion, there is no disorder, there is no conflict. In reality, with the presence of Wisdom, there is Love. Love does not possess, control, dominate, or cling to, nor does it carry the mistake of envy, control, possession, jealousy, fear, or desires. All of this is within the psychological condition that forms this "person." And, I repeat, this "person" is suffering. There is no separation between suffering and the sense of someone in suffering, which is the "person."

This is what we are investigating with you here on the channel. We have several playlists here on the channel, where we are investigating with you this possibility of Liberation, of the Realization of God, of the Realization of Truth, of the end to this illusion, this confusion, this suffering.

GC: Master, there is a question from a subscriber here on the channel. Joel makes the following comment and asks: "Good evening, Gualberto. Question: at the moment when an individual finds himself at the point of mutation between the end of the ego and the beginning of a state of Enlightenment, is he afraid of being transformed?"

MG: Gilson, it is very interesting that we use expressions without a deep understanding, without a deep investigation of their meaning. Here, for example, in the question, the person asks this question using the expression "this turning point between the state of ego and Enlightenment." Notice, we ask questions, but without investigating what this means. And then he continues the question: "With this change, does fear occur?" See, it would be much more important to investigate the truth of what this process of approaching Realization really is than to have this idea or curiosity about what happens or what will happen.

See, Gilson, our emphasis here is on working on ourselves, at this moment. Listen to this: do not worry about what will be, what will happen. Work on the truth about this process of Awakening at this moment, and the truth about this requires the presence of a look at this moment, at your reactions. So, talking about the turning point, talking about whether there will be fear or not, notice, this is not relevant! So, we are dealing with the future, first because there is a general idea - this is very common - that Enlightenment is something that will happen in the future, and then there will be a turning point. Let's abandon that! Let's work on this issue of the presence of the "I" in this context of relations, relations with objects, people, ideas, places, relations with feelings, emotions. Working on this is to have the basis for the awareness of this Vision, which is the Awakening of Consciousness. Otherwise, we remain in this postponement, when we keep thinking about what will be, what will happen or how it will be.

We don't realize, Gilson, that this idea of the future is a distraction. Our inclination to think is always to evaluate, to portray, to make conjectures, to make particular observations, to live interpreting. We need to abandon that, to get closer to what is happening to us at this moment, to look at it. All that matters to us is this moment, all that matters is here and now, in this observation, in this work on ourselves. For a long time, thought within us has been interpreting, naturally interpreting, translating, seeking, in fact, to evaluate things based on its past, on its old and ancient conclusions. And I want to repeat: these are all postponements.

Here, with you, we are working precisely on the end of the past, the end of thought, the end of these ideas, of what emerges in this format of thought, such as a belief about tomorrow, a point to be found, Enlightenment to happen, the fear that may or may not arise. We discard all of this. An approach to this moment will reveal to you the truth of Meditation, the discarding of the "I." As for the issue of fear, fear is something that needs to be discarded as part of this look at this entire movement of thought that is present at this moment.

We are already dealing with fear. Within this process of Self-awareness, we are dealing with this issue of fear at every moment. So, why the idea of this fear at this so-called point of mutation? We need to approach Meditation at this moment, this work of Self-awareness at this instant, and leave completely aside all theories, all beliefs, all concepts, all forms of imagination on this subject to, in fact, experience, at this instant, this work, this process of perceiving Reality. So, Self-awareness is something that is revealing itself here, at this moment, and it is here, at this moment, that Awakening, Enlightenment, is revealed. This is the instant; this is the moment.

GC: Master, there is another question from another subscriber here on the channel. Mercedes made the following comment and asked: "Can you talk a little more about the ego? What is this 'I' that you speak of? I know the 'Higher Self', the 'I Am'. Is this life of the 'I' connected to the ego?"

MG: Look, Gilson, the person says: "I know this 'Higher Self', this 'I Am'. What 'I' are you talking about?" So, let's see this here. What is this "Higher Self," what is this "I Am"? Look, when we use expressions like "Higher Self," "I Am," look, an image, an idea, a thought emerges within us. So, we are actually dealing with a concept, with a belief. Thus, we have this belief in this "Higher Self," this "I Am." We affirm this in words because of an imagination that we have. Here, we need to discover, Gilson, the Truth of That which is beyond imagination and, therefore, beyond thought, beyond this idea "I Am," beyond this idea "the Higher Self."

People use expressions like "the Superior Self," "the Divine Self," "the Sacred Self," "the Higher Self" . But they are expressions! They are words that only portray ideas! Ideas, words, all of this is still part of thought. There is a Reality, yes, present, but it is when this "person," this "I," this "me" is discarded, which is what we are actually dealing with at this moment. But we have been conditioned, Gilson, to beliefs, theories, concepts, to affirmations of words. So, we spend a lot of time reading books, studying, learning all this language of spirituality and making affirmations with words, but all of this is still in the field, in the terrain of thought. This is still part of what thought is constructing. Within thought, within its construct, we are dealing with that which is still part of what is known. Divine Reality is not part of what is known, Truth is beyond the mind.

So, here, we have to become aware of this movement, which is the movement of the "I," this "me," this "sense of person." When this illusion is discarded, yes, something is revealed, but this something is unnamable, it is indescribable! Any imagination about This is something totally illusory. Calling this Divine Reality "the Divine Self," "the Superior Self," "the Higher Self," all of this is still within what thought reaches, what thought still produces. Here, it is when we become aware of the truth of what is here, which is this "I" with its model of thought, feeling, emotion, sensation, imagination, it is when this illusion is discarded - because this Truth is being seen -, it is when this discarding occurs that this Reality reveals itself, and this Reality is unnamable, indescribable.

Therefore, Gilson, we need to completely free ourselves from beliefs, because beliefs are mental, beliefs are concepts, beliefs are ideas, beliefs are within thought and, therefore, within imagination. Awareness of Reality is not an imagination. Awareness of Truth, in this Liberation, is not an imagination. Divine Reality is present when this "I" is not there, when this movement of thought, in this "person," is not there; together with it, it is not there, precisely when it is not there. So, the end of this illusion, this "sense of person," this "sense of I" . because we are dealing with psychological conditioning. This psychological conditioning gives us this formation of this "I" that we believe we are, that we feel we are, that we seem to be. This is something that gives us this feeling of this "person" that we assume we are.

When this dissolves, when this disappears, there is a Reality present. This Reality is Divine Reality, which is unattainable by thought, indescribable by words, unimaginable by the mind. This is what we need to understand directly, and this understanding reveals itself when illusion ends, when this mistaken view of thought is no longer present. So, it seems to me that it has become clear: yes, this life of the "I" is nothing other than this life of the ego. Reality cannot be defined in terms of images, thoughts, ideas, concepts or beliefs. I repeat: Reality is outside of what is known and, therefore, outside of thought, of this thought of "I," "Higher Self," "Superior Self," "Divine Self" . Wherever thought is, we have ideas, and ideas are conclusions, beliefs, images. This Divine Reality is beyond all of this, it is outside of all of this, it is something unattainable by the mind; unattainable and indescribable, also, by thought.

GC: Thank you, Master, our time is up. Thank you for this videocast.

And, for those of you who are following the videocast to the end, I would like to leave you an invitation. Here in the first comment, pinned, is the WhatsApp link so you can participate in the intensive weekend meetings that Master Gualberto provides. These meetings are much more profound than any video on YouTube. First, because Master Gualberto answers our questions directly, live. Second, and more important and impactful, Master Gualberto, because he already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, shares this State of Presence, and in this sharing, there is a Force, a Power and an Energy, and we end up taking a ride on this Energy. And this is an incredible facilitator for us to be able to observe ourselves, for us to be able to go along with this Silence with the Master.

So, here is the invitation. In the first comment, pinned, there is the link. In addition, please give a "like" to the video, leave a comment with questions for us to bring to the next videocasts.

And, once again, Master, thank you for the videocast.
