Today, we’re going to work with you on this issue of the experiencing… experiencing the Truth about who you are. The question is “who am I?” And I want to work with you by pointing the beauty of the Infinite Way by Joel Goldsmith. Yes, Joel Goldsmith spoke of this “infinite way.” And we have, in Joel, a very beautiful approach; he points out the reality that there is only the Truth, which is the Truth of Christ. That’s Joel’s language, based on that Christian Science approach.
Here, I want to invite you for a living, not a study. For some people, this has been a question within them: “How to accomplish this in practice?” Yes, it’s the practice that matters, because you can spend your whole life studying Joel Goldsmith, as you could the Bible, or the Upanishads. Here, we must have a new approach to all this.
Here, in fact, it’s not about learning, but rather unlearning. The experience is in that remembrance or in that Self-remembrance. It’s not the remembrance of something that has been forgotten, something that we’ve once learned and forgotten. No! It’s the remembrance of What we are, we have always been and will always be. Here, it’s about remembering the Truth that is You. It’s a remembrance that is not based on a forgotten memory.
So, the expression here – “remembrance” – also carries a new meaning. Here, I use several expressions and I've been trying to show those of you who approach that we can make use of language without being attached to language. This gives us the freedom to make use of language by giving it a new meaning.
Here, I am pointing out to you the possibility of this remembrance of something which, in fact, has never been forgotten, but it seems to have been. It’s in this sense that I use the word “remember” here: Remember Yourself. This Self-Remembrance is what we need.
The words of Joel Goldsmith, present in The Infinite Way, are not words to be studied intellectually, kept as information since it becomes part of a merely intellectual, verbal formation. We've done that with books and Scriptures, and that’s not the Truth. The Truth is not in the intellect, it’s beyond the intellect, therefore beyond words, beyond studies.
My invitation here on this channel is for you to live the Truth of your Being, the Divine Reality that is You. Here, we are at ease. I want you to feel comfortable about this, too. Don't get attached to words. We actually have to unlearn the words since the word is not the truth of the thing. The word “love” is not Love; the word “life” is not Life; the word Christ is not Christ; the word God is not God. The word is not the thing. The word chair is not that utensil, that piece of furniture, where you actually sit.
In practice, the word doesn’t apply. The word is just a symbol, an image. So, people can spend a lot of time studying the Infinite Way without living the Truth of Christ, they can spend their whole lives studying about Christ, and all they will have, in the end, are concepts, images, ideas, and beliefs.
We need to live the Truth. So, the invitation is for you to investigate the Truth that we are. So, I want you to feel free here. Don't try to fit my lines, my words, to the words of Joel Goldsmith; it won’t match. The purpose is not to have a marriage between words, between the words I use here on the channel and the words Joel uses in his books, within the Infinite Way. Here, the purpose is to transcend those same words, both Joel’s and Gualberto’s words. You need to transcend the words inside your head to live It.
To live Love is not to live the word “love;” to live the Christ is not to live the word “Christ.” That’s why, here, we make use of expressions, but we don't get attached to them. Here, I use expressions, within the channel… expressions from Vedanta, from the Gospel; I can use expressions from the Bhagavad Gita, from the Upanishads... But the word doesn’t matter! I can stop using them.
In fact, at one time or another, I quote one of these expressions, but when you have this contact with the Awakening, with the Realization of your own Being, and this “remembrance” of the Truth of your Being becomes evident in you, which is this Truth that has never been forgotten, by the way... This has always been present! But, in a way, This was obscured by the illusion of the egoic sense, the sense of separateness.
This is how human beings are living, living their lives, their days. However, when there’s that Self-remembrance, which is the end of that illusion, the end of that sense of a present “I” separating from God, from life, from existence, from others… When that disappears, from that moment on, you discover your own language. Today, I use this language; it is a language to share with those who approach that same possibility of the Awakening.
The truth is: how does this become evident in practice? Through direct work. It’s not studying books, or studying and keeping words. They may intellectually seem profound and emotionally enchanting, and we are enchanted by the words, and we are as if hypnotized by the depth of the expressions, and we don’t experience the Truth.
Here, I want to invite you to live This. And the only thing you need are not words. Books are wonderful, they are wonderful aids, but they also become obstacles; from a certain point onwards, they become obstacles.
According to the words of Joel himself, “We need to go beyond words and thoughts.” That’s what we've been saying all along here, on our channel. [It’s] Investigating that… It’s not studying Joel, it’s studying ourselves; it’s not studying the Bible, it’s studying ourselves; it’s not studying the Vedas, it’s studying ourselves.
These studies remain at the intellectual and emotional level, as we have just mentioned because they are about words. We need to live This because only living This is the Truth of the “thing.” The experience of the Kingdom of Heaven is the Truth of Love, Peace, Happiness, Plenitude, the abundant Life, and Life with abundance. This is evidenced in practice, evidencing This, realizing This.
In this contact with Ramana Maharshi, for twenty-one years, this became clear: there’s no point in hearing the words, in reading the words, or in studying the words, you have to evidence the Truth of Atma Vichara, of self-observation – that was the expression of Ramana Maharshi, the Sage of Arunachala.
When you meet your Teacher, when you meet your Master, he shares with you his experience, his view. He will not repeat the words of another Realized Being, he will share What he is, his Presence, his Being, his Consciousness.
The student’s Consciousness is the teacher’s Consciousness until the moment comes when it’s discovered that there are not two. That’s when you really know that it’s one unique Presence, one unique Reality, one unique Consciousness, and This is something that becomes evident in practice… in practice, in experience. Then, there’s The Truth about The Infinite Way by Joel Goldsmith.
Ramana called it “the Direct Path.” The Direct Path to this practical realization, according to Ramana Maharshi, is Atma Vichara. And there’s another element present in this, which is the Grace itself, the very Power of the Presence of the Master, of the Teacher, since this Power, this Presence, is the Presence itself, the very Power present in the student; it’s one Consciousness, one single Consciousness in communion; it’s the Grace.
Ramana Maharshi used to say that Grace of the Master is something far more powerful than the study of the Scriptures or any other practice like these so-called “meditation practices.” The Truth of your Being is the Truth of Christ, the Truth of God.
So, our invitation here, on this channel, is for you to experience the Truth of Christ, the Truth of your Being, which is Consciousness, Happiness, according to Vedanta, which is the Kingdom of Heaven according to Christ, which is Conscious Union with God in Joel Goldsmith’s language.
