Joel Goldsmith | Living by the Word | How to get rid of psychological suffering? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello, everyone! We're here for another videocast, again, Master Gualberto here with us. Thank you, Master, for your presence. I'm going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Living by the Word." In an excerpt from that book, Joel makes the following comment: "There comes a certain moment in each person's experience when a touch of the Spirit breaks through, not because of them, but in spite of them." Master, in this excerpt, Joel Goldsmith comments on this touch of the Spirit. On this subject, can you share your insight on how to free yourself from psychological suffering?

MG: Gilson, here we have to investigate this issue of suffering. What is the truth about suffering? We have physical suffering. If you have an accident and your leg or arm is hit in the accident, pain is there. So, suffering is present. Thus, we have physical suffering as something that is present in the body. Our body has this sensitivity or this vulnerability to pain. This is, in fact, a mechanism of self-protection, of self-defense of the organism, the presence of that pain and, therefore, of suffering. Dealing with this quality of suffering requires medical care.

However, here we are discussing with you the possibility of ending suffering. As long as the body is present, it will go through processes of pleasure and pain, but is there a possibility of going beyond suffering? This is not about physical suffering; it is about another quality of suffering, present in all of us, that we need to investigate and go beyond. We need to transcend this psychological condition, because it is in this psychological condition that this type of suffering, this quality of suffering, resides. Thus, we have two types of suffering: physical suffering and psychological suffering.

Here we are, with you, investigating the end of suffering. Physical suffering is addressed by medicine, by treatments and medication, but what about psychological suffering? Is there, in fact, a way to go beyond psychological suffering, beyond the suffering of the mind? We have various forms of psychological ,psychic suffering. In truth, there are countless forms of fear: anxiety, anguish, worry, guilt, shyness. Note, all of these are forms of fear. We have countless fears; the presence of fear, with its various names, is essentially suffering. Is a life free from fear and, therefore, suffering, possible?

But it's not just fear. We have many other forms of conflict, internal contradictions that constantly produce psychological pain, sentimental pain, and emotional pain in our lives. So, how can we deal with this? What is the truth about the quality of psychological suffering present within us? The truth about this suffering, about this quality of suffering, consists in the presence of an internal sense of separation, where there is this "I" and the "non-I." We live within a psychological model of existing as a person, where duality is present. We have likes and dislikes, good and evil, true and false, positive and negative. We have sadness and joy, pleasure and pain.

So, psychologically, we are sustaining a model of existing as someone in duality-this someone lives within this principle. And here we are, with you, investigating, deepening, becoming aware of the truth about this someone. The idea of ??existing as a person, from an internal, psychological perspective, is a condition created by thought model present within us. This is not real! Notice what we are presenting here to you: physical pain receives medical treatment. However, this psychological pain. how can we become aware of the truth of a real treatment for it? Having clarity, lucidity, direct understanding of the truth about the "I," about the existence of this someone, this "me."

And here we are telling you that this type of suffering, this quality of suffering, as it is based on a pattern of internal duality, within each of us, in this psychological model, created by thought, adding a present identity, which is the person, the "me," if we free ourselves from this idea, this belief, this thought suggestion, we will be free from suffering. Because it is the presence of this someone, this idea of ??being someone, that is the cause of internal, psychic, and psychological pain.

We must investigate the truth about thought, the truth about the "I," This will give us a direct comprehension of the truth about fear. Here I'm mentioning fear, but we have anger, we have anxiety, we have various forms of internal impressions of suffering present within us. And all they are, in fact, tied to this sense of duality. We are the ones who give slightly different names to, basically, the conflict of duality present within the "I," due to this pattern of thought we are living, which we know.

We need a free mind, a free brain. Yes, I mean a free brain, a mind free of thought, because the quality of thought we know is what gives us this model of psychological existence. It is this that provides the basis for sustaining the illusion of a person present in life here, in the present moment, with a personal, particular, and, therefore, egocentric mind. Here, a new mind, a new brain, a new heart is a new way of approaching life without thought, without psychological thinking, and therefore without suffering. Is a life free of the ego, free of the "I" possible? This is a life without psychological suffering, this is a life free of psychological pain.

When we cling to objects, people, ideas. when we cling to circumstances, situations, projects, desires. This imprisonment is the basis of suffering. And this imprisonment occurs due to the presence of this "I" and the other thing one holds, that one possesses, that one controls. This is how we are living a self-centered life, a life of separation. Our attachments sustain the presence of suffering. It is the presence of the "I," the presence of the ego-the model of existing as someone present here in life, in this moment-holding onto what it believes is its own. Therefore, the idea of ??"I" and "mine" sustains suffering, sustains the illusion of this person.

Here, with you, we are investigating this: the possibility of going beyond suffering, beyond this ego condition, toward a free life. Thus, your new way of feeling, acting, and thinking, from a new heart, a new mind, is of Real Divine Presence, of Real Intelligence. Your life is no longer guided by the model of psychological thought. Your life is no longer situated in the idea of ??separation between you and it, between you and life, between you and God. Therefore, this life of yours is no longer the private life of someone, of this "me." This requires the presence of a self-awareness for the discard of illusion, this duality, this pattern of separation. When this dissolves, the idea of ??this "I" and this belief, which is the belief of "mine," disappear.

You don't exist as you believe you exist and you don't have what you believe you have. It is thought that is producing this illusion within you and sustaining the suffering of desires, attachments, beliefs, and certainties of someone in control. which represents an egocentric movement to exist as someone. This is what we need to free ourselves from in this life. Then, yes, there will be an end to suffering.

GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel. Helena made the following comment: "Master, it often seems like my suffering is endless, like a cloud that haunts me. How can I understand the origin of this pain and stop identifying so much with it?"

MG: So, you say your suffering is endless, and you want to discover the origin of this pain. Note, Gilson: in general, we want to discover the origin of pain to rid ourselves of it. Yes, self-investigation is essential, studying what's happening to us, but not to rid ourselves from the idea of ??someone present to rid ourselves of. When we approach the investigation of the truth about who we are, yes, the cause, the reason for that pain becomes clear, but so is the presence of someone present in the pain, someone who is creating this separation, this division between oneself and pain.

Therefore, our thinking here proves to be mistaken. We have the idea of ??someone to rid ourselves of the pain; we don't have a clear vision that this someone is the very presence of that pain. We only want to rid ourselves of the bad things, not the good things. So, there's a separation between what "I" enjoy, which is pleasurable, and what disturbs me because it's painful. So, there's a separation between this "I" and something else. The truth about suffering, just like the truth about pleasure, is the same truth. What we understand as emotional, sentimental, romantic, and psychological pleasure, and what represents pain, suffering, and discomfort for us, also internal and psychological, carry the same principle. And the principle is separation between "me" and the other, me and what "I" want, "me" and what "I" don't want. But this separation is an illusion.

When you are sad, there is only sadness. When you are angry, there is only anger. The idea of ??someone being angry is a belief; of someone being sad, it is a belief. Observe this clearly: filled with anger, you are anger; filled with sadness, you are sadness; filled with anguish, you are anguish. When a thought arises about anguish, you separate yourself; when a thought arises about anger, you separate yourself. You see, thought is the element that creates separation between someone and anger; between someone and anguish; between someone and fear. Here we are faced with a single situation. Thus, the presence of pleasure or the presence of psychological pain carries the same structure: the structure of duality.

Once free of the "I," free of pain, free of pleasure. The presence of the "I," of the ego, is the presence of suffering, is the presence of pleasure. This is what we need to comprehend in this life. Therefore, the idea or thought of getting rid of something we don't want, doesn't work. You seemingly have a temporary freedom from that condition, from that situation. However, as long as the sense of "I" is present, new situations will arise. These new situations are still the old situations of pain, of suffering... because it's like a tree: you get rid of some branches, but others are still there; you get rid of some leaves, but other leaves are still there. Other leaves will come and other branches will grow as long as the tree is present.

The awareness of the Truth of your Being, the revelation of the Nature of God, the Real Divine Life, is the Freedom from pleasure and pain, from joy and sadness. It is when we face something beyond the mind, in this mind free of the ego. When the mind becomes silent, the brain becomes still, something beyond the mind reveals itself. Something beyond this brain reveals itself; it is the presence of Divine Revelation. What brings this Revelation is attention to our reactions, it is the discarding of the psychological condition of egoic conditioning, of mental conditioning.

Therefore, when you talk about "stopping identifying with pain," comprehend that as long as the idea of ??someone exists to disidentify or identify with, pain will be present. Free yourself from the illusion, the belief, this idea of ??"someone." Then, yes, there will be a break with identification, but not just the identification of pain, but the identification of the illusion of someone with pleasure.

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel, who made the following comment: "Why do we so easily fall into what thought tells us? Can you comment on that?"

MG: Gilson, we very easily fall into thought model because our habit, our addiction to being someone, is very huge. This tree has very deep roots. From a young age, we live within a culture, a world model, surrounded by people; that is the model. Our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, teachers, the entire world.

As human beings, we don't know ourselves, because we are trapped in thought model, from a young age. Our trust, certainty, and security are sustained by the illusion that thought intelligently guides our lives, which is completely false.

Everything thought has produced and continues to produce in our lives is a model of existence of someone present, who is not real, dealing with speech, action, feeling, and thinking in a profoundly illusory and mistaken way. We can only free ourselves from this, Gilson, by becoming aware of how we function, how we internalize the experience of the world, the experience of others, and our own experience. Comprehending how we internalize what happens externally and internally. Direct comprehension will reveal the illusion that this experience is being sustained by an experiencer, and that this experiencer is not real.

What allows us to see this is the presence of Self-awareness. When you begin to become aware of how the mind works, noticing the emotions, feelings, thoughts, and all the reactions arising, it becomes clear that all this movement is learned, something that comes from the past, the result of memory, and therefore, something within a conditioning of social and cultural structures. This is the psychological pattern of the "I." You become aware of this when you no longer engage with the reactions. If you engage with your reactions, you lose yourself in them. So, the way to break free from this is by learning to look, to observe, to be aware, without bringing the presence of someone, this "me," this thinker, this experiencer, to interact with it.

Therefore, it is Self-awareness that provides the foundation for encountering the new space of Freedom from this old consciousness, this egoic consciousness. This new space of Freedom arises when there is the presence of Meditation. Meditation is a new State of Being, a new State of Consciousness, a new State of Presence. You cannot produce it; it arises naturally when you learn to observe your reactions. Notice that when you talk to people, you are not aware of yourself at the moment you speak. You are not aware of them while they speak. You are not aware of thoughts inside your head at that moment, of your sensations, your feelings, or emotions.

We are completely immersed, immersed in a deep identification with the past, with all the results of learned knowledge, and we are merely reacting all the time, without the awareness of looking, of perceiving. This is what we are inviting you to do here. This doing is simply observing. It is not something "someone" does; it is doing without someone. It is a simple and direct verification, without reacting, without interacting. So, something new emerges at this moment. Something beyond the mind, beyond words. It is the presence of Meditation, this Awareness of Being, of pure Being, of simple Being. Okay?

GC: Thank you, Master, our time is already over. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who are watching the video to the end and truly wish to experience these truths, we invite you to participate in the meetings that Master Gualberto offers. These are intensive weekend meetings that are available online, in person, and also as retreats. These meetings are much deeper and more powerful. First, because the Master directly answers our questions; and second, because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, He shares an energy field around Him. And in these meetings, we end up being taken on a ride by this field of Master's Presence. And by catching this ride with Master spontaneously, effortlessly, we enter the meditative state, quiet our minds, and can gain a true insight into these topics discussed here on the channel. So, the invitation remains. The first pinned comment contains the WhatsApp link to join these meetings. Also, please "like" the video, subscribe to the channel, and comment here, asking questions for future videocasts. And, Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.

Practicing Self-awareness. What is Self-awareness? Ego-identity. What is Mindfulness?

For some people, the idea of ??self-awareness is something to be practiced. That is why they use the term "practicing self-awareness." The Truth about Self-awareness, of this awareness, the direct answer to the question what is Self-awareness, refers to an approach to oneself for the direct comprehension of the movement of the "I."

Unlike studying this in books or through a system, a technical methodology, this look at our reactions, which are these internal processes that occur within each one of us, requires the presence of attention on this. This attention is looking directly at what occurs within each one of us and outside of ourselves.

And why is this fundamental? Because this is what makes you have direct contact with the form, with the pattern, with the model of this consciousness, which is the egoic consciousness, which is the egocentric consciousness, which is the consciousness of the "I." Without this approach, there is no comprehension; and without this comprehension, person's life is the egocentric life of this ego identity.

The quality of life in the ego, the life in the "I," the perspective, the particular vision of the world present in the person is one where the presence of ignorance is present. This sustains in us suffering, the illusion of a relation with the other, having, by nature, this mistake, which is the mistake of the egoic mind, of this personal consciousness. This makes us live an egocentric, exclusive, isolationist, separatist life. Thus, basically, this is the life of ego-identity.

What is this ego-identity? It is the egocentric identity. We are not in touch with the beauty of life, with the uniqueness of life, with the totality of life, because our actions are born from this background of experience and knowledge, present in each one of us, which is the result of memory. We have several unresolved issues; these unresolved issues are the problems.

The various problems present in the life of human beings are something that are present due to the lack of awareness of the Truth of Life. When people talk about problems, invariably, within these problems - and this is the basis for the problems they have -, when they talk about problems, they are speaking precisely from the perspective of someone present, having a vision of life in resistance.

We do not comprehend life and, nevertheless, we are projecting onto life objectives to achieve, to be happy. We lack the Truth that Happiness is something that is already present, being something innate, inherent, something present in life itself, when there is no longer illusion. But the fact is that we are born within a context of life in separation; this separation is established in us due to the presence of the error of thought.

The element of separation is the condition where memory has taken on this prominent place. We have given thought an extraordinary value, and since thought is the result of memory, memory has taken over our lives. See what important things we have to comprehend here; hence the need for a real vision of Self-awareness.

We need to comprehend the place that thought has in our lives or, otherwise, thought will be occupying this place, this place of command, of control. You never doubt, for example, beliefs, and the fact is that, psychologically, our entire formation of consciousness is based on beliefs, on things that were shown to us, taught to us, given to us by this context of human history, by this context of culture within humanity.

We were raised within patterns of behavior, speech, thought, language, within a doctrine of human culture. So, we have been indoctrinated to be exactly who we are, to live exactly as we are living, and the quality of life we ??have is the quality of life centered on this illusion of separation, where there is a strong feeling, a frequent thought that life is something separate from what we are. So, there is "us and life," there is "us and them," there is this "me" and the "not me."

What we have been emphasizing here with you is the importance of this vision, this new vision, this real vision of yourself. It is only when you start to look at what is happening inside you, it is only when you start to look at the world on the outside, without the interference of thought, without the interference of preconceived ideas, that you begin to perceive life as it happens, externally and internally.

We were not raised for this Intelligence, for this approach to the moment, to experience, to events, to what is happening externally, that is, outside the body, and to what is happening inside each one of us, that is, in our mind and in our heart. We were not educated to look, to see, to listen, to perceive, to know what is happening to us. On the contrary, we were raised precisely to follow, to copy, to imitate, to be like the other people around us.

Thus, this pattern of conditioning in which we find ourselves places us within a consciousness that is not this true Consciousness, that is not this Real Consciousness - the feeling that we have present, for example, of an individual consciousness. You have the illusory sensation that you think what you want, that you feel what you desire, that you know what you need.

We have various forms of perception of life, both externally and internally, which are based on the illusion of a belief, which is the belief of this "I" in control. For example, you see yourself as someone who is thinking about things. One of the things we have been studying here with you is the truth that you are not thinking; thinking is a process in you that occurs in the brain. It is part of the mind, of this known mind in us, the presence of thought, the presence of thinking, but there is not someone in thought.

If I ask your name, you have your name; if I ask your address, you have your address; if I ask something about your story, you have your story. But this story, your name, your address, are not the truth about you, they are just a remembrance, a recollection, something that comes from this memory. And we are living in memory, living by memory, living within memory, being memory itself: this is the life of this "I."

But what is this "I," what is this "me," this sense of being someone? We don't know it! We are identifying it exactly with the name, with the story, with the address, with all the remembrances we have from the past. What are these remembrances? These remembrances within us are the presence of thought. What are these thoughts? These memories, these recollections of the history, of this body and this mind.

But what is the truth about you? The question seems simple, but we are faced with a question that requires a depth, a dimension of vision that we do not have in the intellect. All that we can answer from the intellect will be answers given by thought, and these thoughts are these remembrances.

We believe that we are these thinkers, we believe that we are the element of this answer, as being someone, as being this "I," while these answers are coming from this intellect, from this memory, from this brain. We continue not knowing the Truth about ourselves, we continue trapped in the illusion of this "I," in the illusion of this mind. What we call the mind is this mechanical, unconscious process, this movement of memory, of memory response, these are mere reactions that arise at every moment due to stimuli, to challenges. We remain in ignorance.

What is the truth about you? This encounter with Self-awareness will reveal this Truth about you. The first aspect of this Truth is this state of psychological conditioning in which we find ourselves. As a person, you are fear, you are anger, you are someone who has friends, who has enemies. As a person, the human being is what he or she shows himself or herself to be, what he or she appears to be. This is what we are in this sense of "I," in this sense of ego, in this sense of someone present in this moment, seeing oneself as someone separate from the other, separate from life itself.

What is this look for each of us? It is this observation of everything that is happening in this moment. When you are faced with a thought, the idea of ??you being present thinking is an illusion created by thought itself. When you are angry. We all have had moments of anger in our lives, for countless reasons. There are many reasons for anger, and there are countless ways in which anger can be expressed, but anger itself, the feeling, sensation, emotion, and presence of anger is one.

We all know what anger is, we have all lived with anger since childhood, but look at how much harm, how much confusion, how many problems you have created in your life due to sudden moments of anger, due to the presence of anger, and yet you still do not know what anger is. We have lived with anger since childhood; but not only with anger, we live with fear. There are countless fears, there are many forms of fear.

Do we know what fear is? We still do not know! Do we know what anger is? We still do not know! And yet, we are victims, in this sense of the "I," of the ego, of these states, which are problematic states, which are states of disorder, confusion, imbalance, suffering, and we are constantly maintaining this continuity of anger, of fear - fear in its many forms. Envy is part of this, jealousy is part of this.

Some people associate, in a pleasurable way, this issue of jealousy with the presence of love. Love is not pleasure. Pleasure becomes displeasure, pleasure can produce irritation, insecurity, annoyance; pleasure can produce fear, it can produce jealousy: this is not Love. Note that we are living in various states of conflict, distress, suffering, disorder, imbalance, due to the fact that we do not know ourselves.

We do not know what it is like to have an approach to these reactions, to look at them closely, to come into direct contact with them, to go beyond them. This is what we are working on here together, talking to you about the possibility of a life free from all this complication, from all this disorder, from all this unawareness, from all this unconsciousness; a life free from this model of egocentric consciousness, from this consciousness of the "I," which is, in fact, unconsciousness about all this, which is the untruth, the lack of comprehension of all this.

An encounter with Divine Reality is an encounter with the vision of God, an encounter with the vision of your Being, an encounter with the vision of life, free from the "I." Thus, it is this coming closer to oneself, in this instant, to put an end to this inner confusion in which this sense of "I," of the ego, has placed us, that we need to understand, that we need to discover. The Truth of God is the Truth of Life, free from the "I," free from the ego, free from this consciousness, which is the egoic consciousness. Thus, this model of thought, which is the model of memory, which has become the most important part of the egocentric life, of egoic life, this is undone.

We need memory, just as we need thought, but only on a practical, objective, direct level, to deal with very simple matters in life. Your address is just technical knowledge; your birthday is all part of the story of this body, this mind; your phone number, each and every form of knowledge that you have, professional knowledge, is something practical. Here we are dealing with thought, but with practical thought.

A thought about facts is not a thought that deals with the purpose of an egocentric identity, to imagine things about it. You cannot create anything special with your address, with your technical, professional knowledge. However, the sense of "I," the sense of ego, which is this sense of psychological self-preservation, in this egocentric life, is creating a particular life for an identity that does not exist, for a being that is not real, which is this "me," this person.

Can we come into contact with life in such a way that this sense of person is seen, comprehended and, therefore, undone, nullified, annihilated? This is the end of the ego, this is the end of the "I," this is the end of this sense of identity that sees itself separate from the other, from life and from God. It is the presence of the comprehension of these reactions present in each one of us. How can we approach this? By observing.

Observing does not require the presence of an observer; it is precisely this observer who, when observing, judges, evaluates, likes, dislikes, accepts, rejects: this is the life of the "I." We are living within this observer, as being this observer, we are living as being the thinker of thoughts, as being the one who has feelings.

When you are sad, the illusion present is the idea of ??someone in the experience of sadness; this someone is "I," this "me," this person. Here, what is present is a suggestion given by thought; it created the one who is in the feeling, the one who is thinking about what one is feeling. Thought created this "I," thought is sustaining life and continuity of this "I." It is this quality of thought that we need to free ourselves from, and we free ourselves when we become aware that this "me," this "I" does not exist.

It is only the observation, the looking, the perceiving, the listening to these reactions that puts an end to the continuity of someone present in this old model, which is the model of this thought of memory, of history for this identity. Looking at life without this model of thought is to break with this conditioned intellect, with this conditioned mind, with this conditioned consciousness, with this pattern of person, of "me," of "I," of egoic identity. This is what we are working on together, here, with you.

Can we have contact with life, with the present moment, with what is here and now, without this pattern of conditioned mind, conditioned intellect, psychological memory, which is this pattern of thought that is giving continuity to the illusion of this "me"? Can we have contact with this moment without the past? See the beauty of this. Life is something now, happening here, we do not need thought - not this quality of thought.

Now, here, at the moment, we are using speech. Speech, of course, is the presence of verbal expressions; the word is part of thought. But what is the basis of this word? Does it come from this psychological background of conditioning, from this memory of psychological thought? So, notice, we can use speech, as a use of thought in our relations, without the presence of the model of an identity behind this thought. We can use speech without this conditioned intellect, which is promoting itself and maintaining its egocentric continuity, based on thought.

We can simply deal with life, in this moment, as it happens, without the weight of this psychological thought, this conditioned intellect, this particular vision of this "I", this ego. Thus, contact with the moment is the contact of life with life, this is the awareness of God, this is the awareness of your Being. This is what we are working on here in these online meetings on the weekends; we are together for two days: Saturday and Sunday. I would like to leave you an invitation here: you can find our WhatsApp link here, in the video description, to participate in these online meetings on the weekends.

In these meetings, we are delving deeper into these subjects with you, discovering the art of this approach to Self-awareness and the Truth about Meditation, which is what makes all this possible. So, we are together for two days. In addition, we have in-person meetings and also retreats. If what you have just heard makes any sense to you, here is an invitation. Go ahead and leave your "like" here, subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment saying: "Yes, that makes sense." Ok? And we'll see each other. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon!

How to find God? Meditation: what is it? Learning about Self-Awareness, Mindfulness and Meditation.

Here I want to draw your attention to our work of investigation, here, into a few subjects. There are some questions that are truly challenging for each of us, and that need to be investigated. One of them is: How to find God? The other refers to the issue of what some call mindfulness or full attention.

So, here we have the matter of mindfulness, of this full attention and meditation. The relation between mindfulness and meditation. So, we're going to start with a fundamental point. I don't know if you've ever heard of a lock pick-yes, a lock pick. The lock pick is more popularly known as a master key.

What is a master key? It's the key that gives you the ability to open several different locks with a single key. So, you're faced with a system with several different locks, but there is a single key: the lock pick-or the master key. Therefore, it's something that authorizes you to open these locks. If it doesn't actually authorize you, at least it enables you, as in the case of the famous lock pick.

Thus, a criminal uses the lock pick to open different locks. If you have a lock pick, you can open different locks or padlocks. Here we are together revealing to you, working with you on this revelation, the revelation of the vision of self-awareness. This is the master key.

When we have comprehension, vision, and clarity about who we are, we realize that the various problems present in human life are there because of ignorance. It is ignorance that keeps us trapped within problems, problems that have no solution without first having a key for that lock.

The problems facing human beings are countless. However, they are countless because of the presence of a basic problem. The basic problem of human beings is the problem of the "I"; it is the element within us that maintains the continuity of these closed locks, these closed padlocks.

Thus, suffering for human beings in its various forms... There are countless forms or presentations of internal states of distress, disorder, and suffering in each of us, and this is something present because we do not know the truth about ourselves. Knowing the truth about us means having a clear vision of our relations.

Relations in life, for each of us, occur on different levels. We have our relation with the world, with the world of ideas, which are opinions, beliefs, concepts, ideologies. We have the world of people, and so are our relations with people. There is the world of objects; in particular, the objects we own or that are with us. We have the world of feelings, of emotions.

Therefore, our relations with these worlds are diverse, and we lack the key that brings us comprehension of how to deal with the world, how to also deal with ourselves. Thus, experiences, whether external or internal, without a vision of the truth about who we are or what we are in this context, keep us in ignorance and, therefore, in suffering.

And what is the element that allows us to comprehend ourselves in these different relations that we have? The present element is the presence of perception. It's not the presence of specialization, it's the presence of perception. If you know your profession, what you do professionally, very well, you have a specialty. We acquire specialty in what we do when we have extensive knowledge and extensive or profound experience in that area.

Here, the awareness of comprehension of the truth about ourselves requires the presence of perception. Therefore, what is this perception? It's what we need to investigate here, it's what we need to comprehend here, because it is perception that gives us the key to comprehend ourselves. This comprehension of the truth about who we are, about what I am, in this context, is the key to Life, to comprehend Life, to seeing Truth.

When you ask "How to have an encounter with God," "How to find God," comprehend something here: Divine Reality is present. It is not something that will appear, it is not something that will be found, it is here and now. It will not be found because it is not in the future, it will not be found because it is not "there," somewhere else; and it will not appear because it is not hidden.

We are dealing with a Truth, with a Reality, as I just said, that is not hidden; it is something present. However, it is not reached, seen, or visualized by the model of this consciousness present within us, which is the consciousness of "I," which is the consciousness of the ego, where the mind as we know it is present.

Thus, what enables us to have a vision of That which is indescribable, That which is unnameable, beyond thought, is the comprehension of the truth of who we are. As we approach this learning of Self-awareness, the truth of the revelation of who we are takes place when there is a discarding or disappearance of this psychological condition of egoic consciousness, of consciousness of the "I."

Therefore, we need to discover what it means to perceive, what it is the perception of Reality, of life as it is happening; what it is this perception that allows us to comprehend the world, the world of our relations. Perception is the presence of a gaze on this moment without the past, which requires the presence of this Attention. This is where Mindfulness and Meditation become important.

The presence of Attention on our reactions, the awareness of the presence of thought, the comprehension of the presence of thought, of opinion, of judgment, of evaluation, of comparison, of the way we look at others, at situations, at what happens within us and also outside. Bringing Attention to this moment, Mindfulness, is being in direct contact with Meditation.

So, what is Meditation? Meditation, what is it? It is the awareness of the present moment revealing itself without the past. Therefore, Meditation is not something you practice, something you specialize in. Meditation requires the presence of a gaze on this moment, a gaze without the past. It is not a specialization, because it is something that is already present. You will not learn Meditation like you learn math, or chemistry, or physics, or any other activity that requires specialization, that requires knowledge and experience.

Meditation is something that is present here, revealing itself, moment by moment, when we bring attention to these reactions that arise, to thoughts, to feelings, to emotions. The way you deal with the present moment requires the presence of this perception. It's simply perceiving, not interacting mentally or psychologically with perception.

We don't know the art of Meditation because we are constantly trapped in the model of interfering with the present moment; we interfere from the past, from this "I," this ego. The element present here that interferes with life as it unfolds is the presence of this ego-identity. The thinker in you, the experiencer in you, the observer in you is the present element that judges, compares, and evaluates. So, we lack the presence of perception.

Perception is looking at the present moment in this Attention, in this Mindfulness. Then a space opens up. This space is the presence of Meditation. This is how we approach Self-awareness, this is how we approach this key. Life is Real. It is Real when this psychological and internal posture of the "I" is no longer present. Then, yes, in this moment, there is a Revelation.

It is the Reality of God that reveals itself, not you having an encounter with God. Therefore, the idea of ??someone having this encounter is an illusion. The nature of your Being, the nature of the Truth about you, is Divine Reality, which I repeat: it is not hidden; it is the Presence that is indescribable, unnameable, but That is not hidden. It just cannot be accessed from the known, from thought. Thus, we are faced with the Unknown.

The Reality of God is the reality of the Unknown, the Indescribable, the Unnameable. The nature of your Being, the Truth about You, is this Mystery, the encounter with Spiritual Enlightenment or the Awakening of Consciousness. There are many names for You in your Natural State of Being, and here we are faced with Life being life itself. This is what we are doing here with you, delving deeper into, working on.

We have online meetings on weekends; we have two days together: Saturday and Sunday. I want to extend this invitation to you. Here, in the video description, you'll find our WhatsApp link for our online weekend meetings. In addition to the online meetings, we also have in-person meetings and retreats. So, here's an invitation for you. You have the opportunity to do this work, to dive into this vision of the truth about oneself, about you.

So, if this resonates with you, here's the invitation. Leave a "like," subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment: "Yes, that makes sense." Okay? See you soon. Thanks for the meeting, and see you next time!

Joel Goldsmith | Living between two worlds | How does the mind work? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello everyone! We are here for another videocast, once again Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you, Master! Today I'm going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Living Between Two Worlds". In an excerpt from this book, Master, Joel makes the following comment: "Let us have no golden calf in our minds, no confidence in any images." In this excerpt, Joel talks about the mind. Master, can you share your vision on how the mind works?

MG: Gilson, what we call "consciousness," "being conscious," "functioning in this world," in this awareness of experience, at this moment, is what we call "mind." What we know as "mind" is the presence of this consciousness, which includes intellect, emotions, perceptions... So, we have this aspect, which for us will remain theoretical, until the moment when we really, truly, in fact, approach this reality, the reality of the mind. We do not really know how the mind works, because we have not learned the art of this approach. We do not have this art of looking directly at how we function. We know nothing about ourselves, and everything we have about who we are is something based on ideas that thought has organized within us.

When we take a large number of thoughts, we can organize those thoughts into ideas. So, what we have about who we are is not the comprehension of the mind, it is not the comprehension of ourselves. We do not have the Truth about ourselves, and we need that. We do not have this Truth because we do not have the comprehension of how we function, how the mind functions. Therefore, this is a good question: How does the mind work? Learning to look at your reactions, learning to observe how you respond with feelings, emotions, thoughts, with sensations, to the experiences of this moment; becoming aware of that, having clarity about that, is having the vision of what the person is, of what this "I" represents in this context of life happening. Unless we have a direct comprehension of that, a clear vision of that, there will be no comprehension of the Truth about ourselves. And it is the Truth about ourselves that frees us from the illusion about who we are, about who we believe we are, about who we seem to be, which is exactly who we are in this context of human relations, the relation with objects, the relation with people, the relation with ourselves, the relation with situations that arise in life, with incidents, with accidents... The relation with life and the relation with death.

None of that can be comprehended without the clarity of the Truth about who we are. Thus, a theory, a concept, an idea about how the mind works, we can acquire this by reading books or listening to lectures by these so-called "experts of the mind." Here, the awareness of the mind is not something that an expert can give us, that a book can bring us. It requires a direct comprehension, not an understanding of words, intellectual, verbal, conceptual. Not the mere comprehension of words that are mere symbols and representations. Note that words are just that: symbols and representations of things, places, thoughts, and feelings. The word itself that is part of the thought is these symbols! The mere intellectual vision of this does not solve it. It is the direct contact with the mind, it is the direct contact with yourself - a contact that is possible when you learn to look. To look at how you function, to perceive how you respond. If this becomes clear, you will perceive that the way you respond, all this response that you have, can only necessarily be a response that comes from the past, that comes from memory, from recollection, from remembrance.

When you have an experience, it is recorded. It now becomes part of this structure that will react when the challenge arises. When you know my name, the memory that you have of the name that I have becomes available. When you deal with me, you will refer to me or speak directly to me by the name that you know. This knowledge is the experience of the name, it is the recording of the name, just as the recording of the face. This is memory, this is remembrance, this is the way the mind works: it works with records and with reactions. It records experiences and responds reactively having as its principle the past, which is memory, which is remembrance. Comprehension of life requires the end of memory, the end of remembrance, the end of knowledge and experience, because life is something that is here at this moment, always revealing itself in a new way. But our responses are from the past, because they are reactive.

So, the mind is happening in a programmed, conditioned way. We need another quality of mind that attends to this moment free from the past. This new quality of mind is not part of this person, of this "me," of this "I." Then, here we have the value, the importance of the revelation of That which is you, the Reality about you. So, we have the Reality of the Truth about you and we have the Truth about you. The truth about you that you know, and the Reality of the Truth about you, which is the Unknown. The Awakening of the Consciousness of the Divine Realization brings you the clarity of this Reality of your Being, of your Divine Nature, of your Real Nature. Contact with Meditation is the awareness of life itself, of the very Reality of your Being.

What we are together looking at here, investigating here, examining here, is how to have in life this approach to the truth about this mind, which is the egoic mind, which is the mind of the "I" - the truth about this person, which is the person that we are. When there is this vision, we have liberation from illusion, from the illusion of this ego-identity. Therefore, our meeting here is a meeting that consists of this discovery, this observation, this clear vision about ourselves.

GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel, Eliane asks the following question: "Master, could you explain the difference between 'I am' and 'who am I?' in the process of liberation from the conditioning of the egoic mind?"

MG: So, Gilson, this "who am I?" and this "I am," as we've just stated in the first answer - and this is the second answer - as we stated in the first answer, the difference cannot be comprehended at an intellectual level, at the level of words. There will be a direct vision in the experiential comprehension in this awareness of Meditation. There is a Reality present - this is the Reality of this Being - and, however, we have the truth of this being that we are... The truth of this being that we are, of this psychophysical being that we demonstrate to be, of this person that we present ourselves to be. First we need to have a direct vision of the truth about this. That's the comprehension of the truth about "myself," about the person, about the "I," about this egoic mind. We have no way of putting into words this Divine Reality, of your True Nature. This difference is comprehended experientially. It is always the Truth that liberates, and not theory, or belief.

When people try to engage in some level of search or pursuit and then apply some form of technique to solve this issue of the presence of Meditation, they are mistaken. Because there is no True Meditation as long as the sense of "I," of the ego, remains uninvestigated. It is the investigation of the "I," the investigation of the ego, the comprehension of the truth of what we are, that lays the basis for the flowering of Meditation. So, the only real way to end this conditioned mind, this psychological conditioning, is through self-revelation, through Self-awareness. If we have this as a basis, we have a door that opens up to the presence of this Divine revelation, which is Meditation.

One important thing, too, which can never be neglected, is the clarity that it is the very presence of the Divine Grace; that is the main element in this whole process of Awakening, of this awareness of Divine revelation, of the end of this egoic mind, of this conditioned mind. Therefore, we come closer to ourselves by an action of Grace. And the Truth of this Divine Reality, of this Being, shows itself by an action of the Divine Grace. Then, Meditation flowers. It is Meditation, the real contact with this moment, without the conditioning of the mind, without the conditioned mind, without this old condition of jealousy, envy, fear, suffering, or any form of conflict. Unless we have the end of suffering - of conflict, of this condition of control, fear, fixation on attachments - unless we have the end of all that, we do not have the slightest condition for this awareness of this Divine revelation.

That is why every form of practice or applied meditation technique, when a person sets aside a moment to meditate and sits there, crosses their legs, chants a mantra, tries to push away their thoughts, all of this is practiced by someone. That someone at that moment relaxes and thus experiences some level of silence and stillness, because, in fact, the brain is quieted, the mind is quieted, but it is something that is achieved through a technique, through a practice. Since there is an intention behind this technique or practice, there is always a level of effort and someone executing it. This is not Real Meditation. Contact with Meditation requires the presence of attention on our reactions, which requires no effort. Self-awareness requires no effort, the observation of life at this moment, revealing itself, requires no effort. Being aware of your reactions, whatever they may be here and now, requires no effort. It requires the presence of this look at what is happening here, without getting someone involved in it.

Therefore, we need to comprehend the difference between the one who wants to get involved and the one who has been getting involved all the time with these reactions, being the basis for these reactions. This is the vision of the truth about oneself. This is what makes it possible to discard the "I," the discard of the ego, the discard of these reactions. So, this is the real contact with the presence of Meditation, because at this moment we have the end of the past, we have the death to this "I," to this ego, to this psychological condition of ego-identity. Ok?

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel. He asks the following question: "I don't know how to deal with the truth. Would it be through meditation?"

MG: So, Gilson, once again, the question here is to deal with the Truth. When you ask: "How can I get in touch with this Truth?", and you already have the answer, when you ask: "Is it through meditation to deal with the Truth?", notice your statement. Dealing with the Truth requires awareness of what is present here at this moment. Dealing with the Truth requires the presence of this attention on what is shown here, at this moment. This attention opens up this portal of self-comprehension. You need to know what is happening to you, but you cannot know this from this separation of someone involved in this observation. Every effort we have made is for someone to improve, for someone to transform, for someone to become better. this someone is this "me."

"I want to improve," "I need to know myself," "I need to know the Truth about myself." This is a mistake, because there is a separation between the one who wants to know and that which he wants to know. It is not about knowing yourself. The Truth of this knowing requires the presence of the comprehension of how this "me," this "I," this conditioned mind works. This is the encounter with the Truth that we need. We have to, before anything else, have the comprehension, this is the true knowledge of oneself. This knowledge is not for changing, for improving, for someone to do something with what they are seeing in themselves. Here, the comprehension is becoming aware of your reactions, without getting involved with them. This awareness of these reactions is without the observer, it is without this "I" that observes, it is without this someone who wants to change something.

Therefore, the encounter with Truth requires this look at ourselves, it requires Self-awareness. When we have the presence of Self-awareness, which requires a vision from this perspective that does not react, that does not get involved with this model of the "I," of the ego, this attention to our reactions is the presence of this Self-awareness. So, yes, with the presence of Self-awareness, we have the Truth of Meditation. The Truth of Meditation is a space that arises when there is Self-awareness. Thus, in this space that is Meditation, there is this Freedom that is exactly liberation from the ego, liberation from the "I," liberation from this egoic sense. Truth is this contact with life as it is, at this instant, when we do not interfere with this moment. Thus, the ego does not enter, the past does not take its place again, which is of reaction, of memory response, of remembrance response. Therefore, the presence of Meditation is the absence of this "me," this "I," this ego, this thinker, this experiencer, the illusion of this identity present here, at this moment, in the experience, being the one who experiences this, who is living one's particular life.

There is nothing more significant in life, of greater value and importance than the presence of Meditation, because Meditation is the revelation of life, the revelation of beauty, the revelation of love. You were born for this vision - for the vision without someone in that vision, for this perception without someone in that perception, for this feeling without someone in that feeling. It is here that life shows itself present as Joy, Happiness, and Bliss... In this Intelligence of dealing with the present moment without the "I," which is the past, without the ego, which are the remembrances, which are the reactions of memory, so the presence of Wisdom, the presence of Divine Reality is revealed. OK?

GC: Thank you, Master, our time is up. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who find meaningful what Master Gualberto shares, we invite you to participate in the intensive weekend meetings. In these meetings, which are held online, in person, and also as retreats, Master Gualberto answers our questions directly. But something much deeper happens than that: because the Master already lives in an Awakened State of Consciousness, he shares an energy field around him. And in these meetings, we end up carried by Master's energy field. It is a field of Presence, Silence, and Power, and carried by Master's energy, we naturally quiet our minds and enter the state of Meditation... We can comprehend what is beyond intellectual understanding. So, here's the invitation: in the first comment, pinned, there is the WhatsApp link to participate in these meetings. And go ahead, give a "like" to the video, subscribe to the channel and leave comments here, bringing other questions for us to bring in the next videocasts. And, Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.

How to find God? Meditation: What is it? Learn about Self-Awareness. Mindfulness: How to practice it

The idea of ??mindfulness as a practice is quite interesting. People ask, "How to practice mindfulness?" I want to draw your attention to something very basic. Every morning, you find yourself in front of the mirror. It's not something you practice; it's something so natural, and you've been doing it since you were a child. Looking in the mirror is observing your own face, becoming aware of yourself.

So, the real question is: How do you become aware of yourself? How do you become aware of something? Isn't it by looking, by observing? And does this require some technique, some practice, in the sense of something being done in a way that's like an exercise based on a method, a system?

The awareness of self-observation is the awareness of looking at ourselves to comprehend who we are. Therefore, it's not a practice, a technique, but a way of looking, of perceiving. It's something that involves perception, awareness. All we need in life, here, is to become aware of the Truth of What we are in our Essential Nature.

The awareness of the Truth about yourself is what you truly need. This awareness requires Self-awareness, learning about Self-awareness. And learning about Self-awareness is being attentive to ourselves, aware of this psychological face, this psychological structure, this psychological image that thought has constructed about who we are.

So, looking in the mirror of life, of relations, of contact with people, of contact with situations, of contact with oneself, of contact with the present moment. The mirror is present in these contacts, and it is in contact with these given things, with these situations, it is in this contact that the vision of the mirror resides.

Life consists of the presence of a mirror. We can become aware of ourselves in this mirror, in this contact, or we can remain in our dream world, in our dream world, in our sleep. The encounter with the Truth of your Being is the answer to the question some ask without investigating, without studying it. The question is: "How to find God?"

The awareness of your Being, which reveals itself in the mirror of Self-awareness, of comprehending the truth about this image, this is the work that puts us in direct contact with the Truth of Meditation. Thus, we have three very basic things here. The first is the importance, the value, the beauty of this self-discovery, of the discovery of this "me," in this learning about Self-awareness. The second is something directly linked to this first, which is the Truth of Meditation.

After all, what is Meditation? Is it something that someone practices? Is it something that, through a technique, an exercise, or a practice, I can do? And for what purpose? What is the truth about Meditation? What is Meditation? Here we have emphasized for you the importance of Meditation and what Meditation truly is.

When you approach and investigate the nature of the "I," you become fully aware of this image that thought has established in you as you, as being yourself. The end of this internal state of imagination, of self-image, is the presence of Meditation, which naturally requires the Truth about yourself.

Therefore, learning about Self-awareness is bringing this very Mindfulness into this moment. The Truth about this Mindfulness brings us closer and allows us to see this face in the mirror directly, and thus we have this self-revelation of Truth, this third fundamental thing, which is the awareness of God.

The yearning, the longing for this encounter with something beyond the known, beyond the world, beyond this boredom, routine, this monotonous life, beyond this search for love, happiness, and peace-here is present the Realization of God. The Truth about Yourself is the Supreme Bliss, the Supreme Happiness. However, it is impossible to have this Revelation of God, this encounter with God in time.

When we engage in any kind of search, any kind of practice, we move away from this Truth, from this gaze upon what we are here and now, in this contact with life; looking at who we are when we are in relation with people, in relation with situations, in relation with thoughts that arise within each of us, as well as with feelings and emotions. Therefore, the true way for the Revelation of What we are requires the presence of this Attention, this Mindfulness of our reactions.

Thus, when we have this Mindfulness, when we pay attention to our thoughts, here, in this moment, to our gestures, the words we use, what we feel in contact with him or her, with life's situations, observing what is happening within each of us, as well as externally, bringing to this moment a gaze that does not judge, compare, or make choices, a gaze where there is no sensor, no observer, this element that comes from the past, which is the thinker, behind this gaze. Thus, there is a noticing of these internal reactions and of everything that happens externally, without any involvement from this "I."

Thus, your contact with the present moment allows a new space to open up, because the mind naturally quiets. Then, this silence arises, the brain quiets, and thus there is the presence of Meditation. Meditation becomes possible in this moment because there is a natural stillness that arises from this observation without the observer, from this perception without the perceiver. Therefore, the presence of Mindfulness is the presence of awareness-awareness of this moment, of this instant.

We need to discover the beauty of a new brain, a new mind; a brain free from the model of thought and, therefore, from everything we know; a mind that no longer lives in this restlessness, chatter, and unawareness of its own movement. Yes, because when you place Attention on your reactions, the brain quiets. All this internal chatter, this restlessness, is creating, producing, and sustaining within you the continuity of the movement of this image, this self-image, which is the "I," the ego.

What people need to comprehend is that there is no truth in the person to have an encounter with God. What we understand as a person is a set of images, memories, and recollections that thought has established in each of us. The mere description of an image, of a self-image, is the presence of the person. However, what is the Truth of your Being? The Reality of your Essential Nature is the Truth of God.

You won't find God; you will become aware of the Reality that is present when the sense of "I" is not. When you become aware, this awareness is the very awareness of God. You don't go to God, you don't find Him. He reveals Himself as the Truth of your Being. We need to deeply and clearly comprehend the truth about who we are, about who we show ourselves to be in this self-image.

That's why all this contact with people, situations, and thoughts is revealing. Because you place attention here, in this moment, to observe what's happening within you, in this contact, when someone treats you well or badly, when someone likes you or dislikes you, when someone accepts you or rejects you. What you feel, who is this element in that feeling?

When you're sad, who is the sad element? When you're happy, who is the happy element? When you feel special, who is the element that feels special? When you feel diminished or rejected, who is this element? Thus, we have, in this revelation of this "I," this "who I am," the end of this psychological structure of egoic consciousness, of mental consciousness, of self-image, because the clarity in this mirror makes you perceive illusion.

It is Truth, it is clarity, it is comprehension that liberates, that puts an end to this internal psychological disorder present in this self-image, in this "I." Only then do we have, in this moment, the Revelation of God's Truth. You in your Natural State of Being are the Reality of Life. The Truth of Life is the Beauty of God. Comprehension, Wisdom, the Presence of Love, Freedom, and Happiness is what is present here when God reveals Himself. When He reveals Himself, illusion is gone, illusion is no more.

Therefore, it is Truth that liberates, not desire, not will, not the desire to be free. This is why the comprehension of what Meditation is, is fundamental in life. Comprehending this Attention, bringing the gaze, the perception, without the past, to this moment, is the Truth about how to live this Attention-this Mindfulness. Your Natural State of Being is this a new, free mind; in fact, it is this Reality beyond the known. Thus, this meditative mind reveals Something indescribable, Something beyond thought. Thus, there is Life revealing itself, God revealing itself, the Reality of this Being present.

Here, these weekend meetings we hold, where we are on Saturday and Sunday, have this purpose: to work on this together-two days online. You can find our WhatsApp link here, in the video description, to join the online meetings on weekends. In addition to the online meetings, we have in-person meetings and also retreats. If what you just heard resonates with you, here's the invitation. Like it, subscribe to the channel, and leave a comment below: "Yes, it makes sense." Ok? And we'll see each other. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon.
