GC: Hello, everyone! We're here for another videocast, again, Master Gualberto here with us. Thank you, Master, for your presence. I'm going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Living by the Word." In an excerpt from that book, Joel makes the following comment: "There comes a certain moment in each person's experience when a touch of the Spirit breaks through, not because of them, but in spite of them." Master, in this excerpt, Joel Goldsmith comments on this touch of the Spirit. On this subject, can you share your insight on how to free yourself from psychological suffering?
MG: Gilson, here we have to investigate this issue of suffering. What is the truth about suffering? We have physical suffering. If you have an accident and your leg or arm is hit in the accident, pain is there. So, suffering is present. Thus, we have physical suffering as something that is present in the body. Our body has this sensitivity or this vulnerability to pain. This is, in fact, a mechanism of self-protection, of self-defense of the organism, the presence of that pain and, therefore, of suffering. Dealing with this quality of suffering requires medical care.
However, here we are discussing with you the possibility of ending suffering. As long as the body is present, it will go through processes of pleasure and pain, but is there a possibility of going beyond suffering? This is not about physical suffering; it is about another quality of suffering, present in all of us, that we need to investigate and go beyond. We need to transcend this psychological condition, because it is in this psychological condition that this type of suffering, this quality of suffering, resides. Thus, we have two types of suffering: physical suffering and psychological suffering.
Here we are, with you, investigating the end of suffering. Physical suffering is addressed by medicine, by treatments and medication, but what about psychological suffering? Is there, in fact, a way to go beyond psychological suffering, beyond the suffering of the mind? We have various forms of psychological ,psychic suffering. In truth, there are countless forms of fear: anxiety, anguish, worry, guilt, shyness. Note, all of these are forms of fear. We have countless fears; the presence of fear, with its various names, is essentially suffering. Is a life free from fear and, therefore, suffering, possible?
But it's not just fear. We have many other forms of conflict, internal contradictions that constantly produce psychological pain, sentimental pain, and emotional pain in our lives. So, how can we deal with this? What is the truth about the quality of psychological suffering present within us? The truth about this suffering, about this quality of suffering, consists in the presence of an internal sense of separation, where there is this "I" and the "non-I." We live within a psychological model of existing as a person, where duality is present. We have likes and dislikes, good and evil, true and false, positive and negative. We have sadness and joy, pleasure and pain.
So, psychologically, we are sustaining a model of existing as someone in duality-this someone lives within this principle. And here we are, with you, investigating, deepening, becoming aware of the truth about this someone. The idea of ??existing as a person, from an internal, psychological perspective, is a condition created by thought model present within us. This is not real! Notice what we are presenting here to you: physical pain receives medical treatment. However, this psychological pain. how can we become aware of the truth of a real treatment for it? Having clarity, lucidity, direct understanding of the truth about the "I," about the existence of this someone, this "me."
And here we are telling you that this type of suffering, this quality of suffering, as it is based on a pattern of internal duality, within each of us, in this psychological model, created by thought, adding a present identity, which is the person, the "me," if we free ourselves from this idea, this belief, this thought suggestion, we will be free from suffering. Because it is the presence of this someone, this idea of ??being someone, that is the cause of internal, psychic, and psychological pain.
We must investigate the truth about thought, the truth about the "I," This will give us a direct comprehension of the truth about fear. Here I'm mentioning fear, but we have anger, we have anxiety, we have various forms of internal impressions of suffering present within us. And all they are, in fact, tied to this sense of duality. We are the ones who give slightly different names to, basically, the conflict of duality present within the "I," due to this pattern of thought we are living, which we know.
We need a free mind, a free brain. Yes, I mean a free brain, a mind free of thought, because the quality of thought we know is what gives us this model of psychological existence. It is this that provides the basis for sustaining the illusion of a person present in life here, in the present moment, with a personal, particular, and, therefore, egocentric mind. Here, a new mind, a new brain, a new heart is a new way of approaching life without thought, without psychological thinking, and therefore without suffering. Is a life free of the ego, free of the "I" possible? This is a life without psychological suffering, this is a life free of psychological pain.
When we cling to objects, people, ideas. when we cling to circumstances, situations, projects, desires. This imprisonment is the basis of suffering. And this imprisonment occurs due to the presence of this "I" and the other thing one holds, that one possesses, that one controls. This is how we are living a self-centered life, a life of separation. Our attachments sustain the presence of suffering. It is the presence of the "I," the presence of the ego-the model of existing as someone present here in life, in this moment-holding onto what it believes is its own. Therefore, the idea of ??"I" and "mine" sustains suffering, sustains the illusion of this person.
Here, with you, we are investigating this: the possibility of going beyond suffering, beyond this ego condition, toward a free life. Thus, your new way of feeling, acting, and thinking, from a new heart, a new mind, is of Real Divine Presence, of Real Intelligence. Your life is no longer guided by the model of psychological thought. Your life is no longer situated in the idea of ??separation between you and it, between you and life, between you and God. Therefore, this life of yours is no longer the private life of someone, of this "me." This requires the presence of a self-awareness for the discard of illusion, this duality, this pattern of separation. When this dissolves, the idea of ??this "I" and this belief, which is the belief of "mine," disappear.
You don't exist as you believe you exist and you don't have what you believe you have. It is thought that is producing this illusion within you and sustaining the suffering of desires, attachments, beliefs, and certainties of someone in control. which represents an egocentric movement to exist as someone. This is what we need to free ourselves from in this life. Then, yes, there will be an end to suffering.
GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel. Helena made the following comment: "Master, it often seems like my suffering is endless, like a cloud that haunts me. How can I understand the origin of this pain and stop identifying so much with it?"
MG: So, you say your suffering is endless, and you want to discover the origin of this pain. Note, Gilson: in general, we want to discover the origin of pain to rid ourselves of it. Yes, self-investigation is essential, studying what's happening to us, but not to rid ourselves from the idea of ??someone present to rid ourselves of. When we approach the investigation of the truth about who we are, yes, the cause, the reason for that pain becomes clear, but so is the presence of someone present in the pain, someone who is creating this separation, this division between oneself and pain.
Therefore, our thinking here proves to be mistaken. We have the idea of ??someone to rid ourselves of the pain; we don't have a clear vision that this someone is the very presence of that pain. We only want to rid ourselves of the bad things, not the good things. So, there's a separation between what "I" enjoy, which is pleasurable, and what disturbs me because it's painful. So, there's a separation between this "I" and something else. The truth about suffering, just like the truth about pleasure, is the same truth. What we understand as emotional, sentimental, romantic, and psychological pleasure, and what represents pain, suffering, and discomfort for us, also internal and psychological, carry the same principle. And the principle is separation between "me" and the other, me and what "I" want, "me" and what "I" don't want. But this separation is an illusion.
When you are sad, there is only sadness. When you are angry, there is only anger. The idea of ??someone being angry is a belief; of someone being sad, it is a belief. Observe this clearly: filled with anger, you are anger; filled with sadness, you are sadness; filled with anguish, you are anguish. When a thought arises about anguish, you separate yourself; when a thought arises about anger, you separate yourself. You see, thought is the element that creates separation between someone and anger; between someone and anguish; between someone and fear. Here we are faced with a single situation. Thus, the presence of pleasure or the presence of psychological pain carries the same structure: the structure of duality.
Once free of the "I," free of pain, free of pleasure. The presence of the "I," of the ego, is the presence of suffering, is the presence of pleasure. This is what we need to comprehend in this life. Therefore, the idea or thought of getting rid of something we don't want, doesn't work. You seemingly have a temporary freedom from that condition, from that situation. However, as long as the sense of "I" is present, new situations will arise. These new situations are still the old situations of pain, of suffering... because it's like a tree: you get rid of some branches, but others are still there; you get rid of some leaves, but other leaves are still there. Other leaves will come and other branches will grow as long as the tree is present.
The awareness of the Truth of your Being, the revelation of the Nature of God, the Real Divine Life, is the Freedom from pleasure and pain, from joy and sadness. It is when we face something beyond the mind, in this mind free of the ego. When the mind becomes silent, the brain becomes still, something beyond the mind reveals itself. Something beyond this brain reveals itself; it is the presence of Divine Revelation. What brings this Revelation is attention to our reactions, it is the discarding of the psychological condition of egoic conditioning, of mental conditioning.
Therefore, when you talk about "stopping identifying with pain," comprehend that as long as the idea of ??someone exists to disidentify or identify with, pain will be present. Free yourself from the illusion, the belief, this idea of ??"someone." Then, yes, there will be a break with identification, but not just the identification of pain, but the identification of the illusion of someone with pleasure.
GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel, who made the following comment: "Why do we so easily fall into what thought tells us? Can you comment on that?"
MG: Gilson, we very easily fall into thought model because our habit, our addiction to being someone, is very huge. This tree has very deep roots. From a young age, we live within a culture, a world model, surrounded by people; that is the model. Our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, teachers, the entire world.
As human beings, we don't know ourselves, because we are trapped in thought model, from a young age. Our trust, certainty, and security are sustained by the illusion that thought intelligently guides our lives, which is completely false.
Everything thought has produced and continues to produce in our lives is a model of existence of someone present, who is not real, dealing with speech, action, feeling, and thinking in a profoundly illusory and mistaken way. We can only free ourselves from this, Gilson, by becoming aware of how we function, how we internalize the experience of the world, the experience of others, and our own experience. Comprehending how we internalize what happens externally and internally. Direct comprehension will reveal the illusion that this experience is being sustained by an experiencer, and that this experiencer is not real.
What allows us to see this is the presence of Self-awareness. When you begin to become aware of how the mind works, noticing the emotions, feelings, thoughts, and all the reactions arising, it becomes clear that all this movement is learned, something that comes from the past, the result of memory, and therefore, something within a conditioning of social and cultural structures. This is the psychological pattern of the "I." You become aware of this when you no longer engage with the reactions. If you engage with your reactions, you lose yourself in them. So, the way to break free from this is by learning to look, to observe, to be aware, without bringing the presence of someone, this "me," this thinker, this experiencer, to interact with it.
Therefore, it is Self-awareness that provides the foundation for encountering the new space of Freedom from this old consciousness, this egoic consciousness. This new space of Freedom arises when there is the presence of Meditation. Meditation is a new State of Being, a new State of Consciousness, a new State of Presence. You cannot produce it; it arises naturally when you learn to observe your reactions. Notice that when you talk to people, you are not aware of yourself at the moment you speak. You are not aware of them while they speak. You are not aware of thoughts inside your head at that moment, of your sensations, your feelings, or emotions.
We are completely immersed, immersed in a deep identification with the past, with all the results of learned knowledge, and we are merely reacting all the time, without the awareness of looking, of perceiving. This is what we are inviting you to do here. This doing is simply observing. It is not something "someone" does; it is doing without someone. It is a simple and direct verification, without reacting, without interacting. So, something new emerges at this moment. Something beyond the mind, beyond words. It is the presence of Meditation, this Awareness of Being, of pure Being, of simple Being. Okay?
GC: Thank you, Master, our time is already over. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who are watching the video to the end and truly wish to experience these truths, we invite you to participate in the meetings that Master Gualberto offers. These are intensive weekend meetings that are available online, in person, and also as retreats. These meetings are much deeper and more powerful. First, because the Master directly answers our questions; and second, because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, He shares an energy field around Him. And in these meetings, we end up being taken on a ride by this field of Master's Presence. And by catching this ride with Master spontaneously, effortlessly, we enter the meditative state, quiet our minds, and can gain a true insight into these topics discussed here on the channel. So, the invitation remains. The first pinned comment contains the WhatsApp link to join these meetings. Also, please "like" the video, subscribe to the channel, and comment here, asking questions for future videocasts. And, Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.
