It is quite interesting here some points we are making. They become interesting because they may sometimes seem contradictory, but the truth is that we are making use of speech here and, naturally, of words, and words carry a limitation, since all speech and, therefore, every spoken word is merely the expression of an image, something thought represents. Thus, speech is born, language is born, images are born from thoughts. But there is something being communicated here beyond speech, beyond words and thoughts. When you ask: "After all, what is this conditioned mind?" -
we have a playlist here on the channel about this subject. The conditioned mind is this mind that has a way of occurring, a way of expressing itself. When we make use of speech, we are, for instance, making use of something learned, something that is part of knowledge we carry, of an experience we have. Thus, all speech, all spoken language, is within a project, a plan, a program of happening; this is part of conditioning. Our gestures. You can write because you have a motor memory, you speak because you have a motor memory, all of this is part of something linked to this body, to this cerebral mechanics of conditioning.
Here, with you, we are investigating the matter of the end for the conditioned mind - and, here, the expression "conditioned mind" refers to this psychological condition in which we find ourselves. This has been the basis, the foundation of a present identity, completely false, which is the sense of the "person," which is the sense of the "I." This sense of being someone within life, in living, in experience, this is something thought has built, and it is being expressed because of this background of psychological conditioning. It is in this sense that we use the expression "conditioned mind" here. The truth of the awareness of your Self is the end for this conditioned mind, for this conditioned consciousness, for this egoic consciousness; it is within it that lies, for instance, this matter, the matter of fear.
When we want to break free from fear, we need to discover who is this element present within fear. That is because the question people usually ask is: "How to overcome fear?" There is a mistake here in this question, because it starts from a mistaken, erroneous principle that there is a present element, which is the "I," the "person," this "me," that can rid itself of fear. There is no real separation between this fear that the person has and the person itself. Notice that all of this requires from each of us an investigation, a deepening, a clarity.
People want to overcome the fear of death, but the element present in the idea of the fear of death, this element, which is the "I," is not separate from the fear it has, it feels, because it is the fear. So here we are, with you, approaching these matters, deepening this. "How to overcome the fear of death?" This is a fear present in this condition, which is the condition of the "I." The very "I," this "me," this ego, since it is this pattern of mental conditioning, something that has been repeating itself for millennia within this context of humanity, and it sustains itself in this pursuit of self-preservation of its continuity through thought, it is fear.
Notice that all of this needs to be investigated, understood, clarified. And all of this is within this conditioned mind; this conditioned mind is the egoic mind. Here we have also spoken about this free mind. Notice, we use the terms "conditioned mind" and "free mind." How is it possible for there to be a conditioned mind and a free mind?
What is the truth behind these expressions? Here, with you, we are investigating the possibility of Life happening; when it happens, and it is the present Reality, and we no longer have this psychological background of conditioning, we have the presence of Reality. This Reality in expression is what we have called the free mind. There is no such thing as conditioned mind, there is no such thing as free mind. This conditioned mind is a model of psychological conditioning within this structure, this brain, which is always repeating its old and ancient patterns.
This is what we call the conditioned mind. Can we break free from these patterns? Can we go beyond this psychological condition of illusory perception of reality, of perception of existence, of perception of life? Then there is a breaking with the "person," with the "me," with the ego, and this requires the presence of a new outlook upon all that is happening to us at this very moment. Thus, the work we are doing together here is a work in this direction, an approach to the investigation of the truth about the mind.
What is the truth about the mind? What is the truth about the "I"? What is this "mind"? What is this "I"? Likewise, what is fear?
Here, in life, we need to become aware of this present Reality beyond the mind, beyond this conditioned mind; it is the awareness of this that we have called the free mind. But I say it again: we are dealing with something that is beyond everything thought knows, everything thought recognizes. Therefore, the language, the speech here, all of it employed here on the channel, lies within a limitation, because this language, this speech, are expressions of words, of images, of ideas. In life, we need the awareness of it, the awareness of the Truth about it. Thus, what is the answer to this matter of how to overcome fear?
The answer to this lies in the vision that the model of thought, as we know it, as it is structured within us, within this brain, which is conditioned, this pattern of thought, this model of thought, is creating the illusion of someone here, at this moment, who has problems to solve, to deal with. When you went through bad experiences in the past, the brain stored those experiences, and that became a memory, a remembrance, a thought within you, within this structure, within this body-mind. This remembrance, when it appears, appears loaded with an illusory sensation, which is the sensation of an identity behind that remembrance, which is the "I." See, this is the structure of the ego, this is how it behaves in each of us. And when this memory arises, thought projects itself into the future.
You went through a bad experience and now you do not want that experience to happen again. So, what we have present is a memory being projected into the future, from this "someone," this "you." What is the truth about this? When we learn to look at this reaction, there is a break in this continuity of the thought pattern, which is always repeating itself within each of us, creating internal states of psychic suffering, of psychological suffering. This is fear, and it is present because there is this illusion of this center, which is the "I," the "me," the person, here, at this moment.
Our focus here consists of learning to look at what is happening with us. The end of fear is the end of this illusion of someone, of this "me." As long as we maintain the belief in the possibility of overcoming fear, we will constantly be seeking a method, a formula, a way, a path to deal with fear, and all of this represents escapism. As human beings, we are specialists in escaping from states of psychic suffering, including fear. But, despite all these escapes, we continue, as human beings, in this sense of the "I," of the ego, trapped in this pattern of person, of separated entity, loaded with anxiety, anguish, depression, worry, and all of this is fear.
So you approach and ask: "How to overcome fear?" Become aware of the nature of the "I" and discover the truth of what is present here when this "I" is not present. And how does this take place, how is this realized? Through Self-awareness. What is the truth about Self-awareness?
The truth about this is the truth of how you function. And there is a main element in all of this, an element that sustains or guides all that occurs in our lives: it is the presence of thought. So, what is the truth about thought? How to deal with thought? That is the question.
How to deal with thought? Observe thought in you; it is the one that brings from the past the remembrance of something that happened to you, something you do not want to happen again. But this thought is always accompanied by a feeling, an emotion, a sensation, still carrying this pain to this "I," to this "me," to this person as you see yourself. Thus, we do not know how to deal with thought. What we have here, at this moment, is not what is now happening, as happened in the past.
What we have here, at this moment, is memory, remembrance. But notice, it still carries an emotional weight of pain, and when it arises, we reject it, we separate ourselves to reject this experience coming back - it is something returning, arising again, coming from the past. At that moment, we separate ourselves, and we separate through thought, and we project this into the future. So, there is a separation between this arising state and a thought that separates itself. This thought is the illusory sensation of this "I," which no longer wants this; it is projecting into the future something that might happen, it is projecting into the future something that happened in the past, and it does not want it to return.
Notice, in this separation between this "I," which is thought, and this sensation, or feeling, or emotion, there is a division. In this division, we have present this duality, this "I," which is thought, and this "not I," which is the feeling, which is the emotion. Notice, we are doing this all the time, when we reject something that thought brings. We are constantly fighting against what is unpleasant when it arises, but as an entity that separates itself to reject it. This rejection is something present within this principle of separation, of duality.
By doing this, we are constantly maintaining the continuity of the presence of fear for this fearful "I." What is the truth about fear? Fear is an experience that arises at this moment, that comes from the past, but there is no separation between fear and this "I." It is a memory, a remembrance, an experience that has not ended, that has not finished, that has not concluded. Otherwise, it would not be coming back; it is coming back now; it is coming back to be seen, understood, and naturally ended, but we do not know how to deal with it, because we do not know how to deal with thought.
We do not know how to deal with this "me," with this "I." This "me," this "I," this thought is not something separate from this experience. What we have done throughout our entire life is to separate ourselves from what happens in order to control it. If it is something pleasurable, we want to control it by projecting this pleasure into the future, through desire. If it is something painful, we want to control it by fearing this painful situation in the future; this is fear.
We are constantly separating ourselves from life as it happens, from experience as it arises, so it does not conclude, it does not end. This is how we are maintaining the continuity of the "I," the continuity of the person, of this "me," of this ego. Here, what is the truth about the Awakening of Consciousness, the Blossoming of your Essential Nature? It is the end of the "I," it is the end of this thought, it is the end, naturally, of this experience. Why are these experiences always coming back?
Why are these thoughts always repeating themselves within us? Because they do not end; they do not end because there is a present element that is sustaining the continuity of these experiences, of these thoughts. This element is this sense of someone who sees themselves as separate from life as it happens. All these subjects, we have been addressing with you on the channel, all these issues that are not resolved in our lives, because, psychologically, the sense of the "I," of the ego, which is this conditioned mind, is sustaining. Thus, the way we sustain the continuity of the "I," this way happens due to this programmed manner of maintaining this format of being someone all the time, in life as it happens, in relationships with him or her, in relationship with events, with situations, in relationship with the very thought that arises within you, or a feeling, or an emotion, or a memory, or a remembrance, or an experience.
Are we together? I know this may sound very strange, and because of this we have several videos here on the channel, deepening each of these subjects. Can we, in this life, assume the Reality of life without the presence of this conditioned mind, in this quality of Being free from the "I," free from the ego? When the brain quiets down, the mind becomes silent, we are facing a free mind. This is possible when we approach and eliminate this separation, which is the separation between the experience and the experiencer, between the present experience and the thought about what to do with the experience.
Thus, we eliminate fear; there is an elimination of fear. See, it is not about someone overcoming fear, it is about the awareness of the end of fear, naturally when this someone is no longer present. It is exactly what you just heard: it is the sense of someone present, which is the "I," the "me," this thought that is sustaining fear. The end of this thought is the end of this quality of experience that comes from the past, this is the end of the "I," this is the end of the ego. Then we have the end of fear, the end of this conditioned mind, and Something new is present.
This Something new is the awareness of your own Self, it is the Reality of Life at this very moment, where there is no more suffering, confusion, disorder, problems, the various forms of fear, of fears that we know. Notice that fear is about the past happening again, but it is also about the future, about something that might happen. So notice, the future is time, but this time is thought. The past is time, but this time is thought. Look at yourself at this very moment, you cannot have the future here and now without thought, you cannot have the past here and now without thought.
Therefore, it is impossible for suffering to be present when thought is not there. The contact with the experience of life as it happens at this moment, without the element, which is thought, life as it happens is Life, but when thought comes in, it evaluates, judges, compares, likes, dislikes, accepts, rejects life as it happens, and when this occurs, suffering is present. This suffering is the presence of this element, which is the "I." This "I" is the presence of this thinker, of this experiencer, of this element within us that has recorded, and this is the pattern, it is the model of conditioned mind present within each of us. This is the continuity of the "I."
The end of this psychological condition is the presence of a new mind, of a new heart, it is the presence of this awareness of Being, free from the mind, free from the "I," free from the ego - as it was said: I refer to this mind as we know it. So, what are we deepening here together with you? The awareness of the Realization of God, the awareness of the Realization of ourselves, the awareness of the Realization of the Truth of What we are in our Essential Nature, in our Divine Nature. The Real way of this approach to this Real vision of Life consists in discovering what it is to look, to become aware, to become conscious of what is happening with us here and now. Thus, all this mental conditioning, all this so-called experience of this center, which is the "I," the ego, which is this thought, which is this thinker, the ending of all this requires the approach of this seeing.
All of this becomes very clear, and in this clarity, we have the presence of the end of all of this, when we approach Self-awareness. Hence the importance and value of this learning about ourselves. It is part of this vision of Self-awareness, an approach to the Divine Reality through Meditation. What is the truth of this approach to Real Meditation, of the beauty of this encounter with the Divine Truth? Through Self-awareness, in this direct seeing of this awareness that reveals your Self, which is Meditation.
How can we approach this? This is what we are proposing here for you. We must, in this life, assume this Truth of What we are, for the end of this psychological condition of illusory identity, so that Life, at this very moment, simply reveals itself as what it is, without the illusory sense of an identity, which is always maintaining its continuity, arising at every moment, coming from the past, within this mind pattern, within this pattern of mental conditioning. These online meetings we are holding here are to deepen this. They are two days together.
