Spiritual awakening. Approach life with different vision. Psychological accumulation.

We often ask the question “how do I find God?” or “how do I Realize God?”, “What is the truth of Self-Awareness or the importance of Self-Awareness?” The Realization of your Being is the answer to all this, because the Realization of your Being is the end of the illusion of the “person” as you see yourself in this context of life.

So, in these meetings here we are investigating this with you, exploring it together. Here we are getting closer to the truth of who we are. So, our subject, always, here, within the channel, as well as in online meetings that take place on weekends – you can also find the link here to our WhatsApp group to take part in these meetings on weekends –, our purpose in these meetings is to have a revelation of the Truth of What we are when what we seem to be is no longer present. So, we're facing Something really fascinating, Something really wonderful, extraordinary, because That is the end of the search for the one who is in this search for God.

So, here, for example, we have to have a very clear approach to what experience is for the one experiencing it. Notice that our lives consist of experiences happening, but see something: they are experiences happening when they are recorded. If they are not recorded, they remain at the level of experiencing. So, notice how interesting it is to approach life with a different vision, with a vision free of this background of common mentality, of personal mentality, of egoic mentality, which has been our vision, which has been our mentality.

Life is happening now, here, but it's not happening for an experiencer. So, life happening here, in this instant, is not an experience, it is the experiencing, and yet we are in this instant, because of this experiencing – which is the “I”, the ego, the “person” in us – we are always transforming this moment into an experience. Life is what happens now, it's not what you can have a memory of, a recollection of, a remembrance of, without the experiencer. We uphold the presence of the experiencer because we can't deal with the present moment just by experiencing it.

Look at what we're putting here for you: the beauty of living in this moment is the Beauty of having an encounter with Divine Reality, with the Reality of your Being, with the Reality of God. This may sound very strange, but we're going to look at it together over the next few minutes. Life as it happens is a Divine Revelation. It is precisely when the “person”, the “I”, the “me”, the experiencer enters that transforms this moment, which is a unique moment of pure experiencing, into a mere personal, egocentric experience, particular to this “me”, to this “I”, to this ego.

So, how is this “I,” this ego, this “me”, this experiencer, born? Simply by transforming that moment of experiencing into a memory, a recollection, a remembrance. On a practical, objective level, when we go through moments of experiencing, yes, we need to, and yes, we can, and yes, we must, transform this into an experience, because, on an objective, practical level, learning on this level only represents accumulating information, knowledge, and experiences. This does require the presence of an experiencer. Driving a car, for example, is something that, as you go through the experience, is stored in your memory, so experiencing driving becomes a memory experience. So, it's knowledge at this level that is necessary for this technical, functional brain. So, at this level, knowledge is necessary, experience is necessary, the experiencer is necessary.

Notice how interesting this is. The use of speech is a learned thing. Through the experience of hearing that word, it was stored in memory and became an experience for this experiencer. So, at the level of brain function, the experiencer is practical, it is objective, it is direct for very practical functions in life. In that sense, I would say that this experiencer is not a present entity; it is a model of how the brain operates, how it functions. So, the brain records the experience, and it is now part of the brain's knowledge. When needed, it is in the motor memory to drive a car or make use of speech. So, at this level, the brain needs to accumulate, it needs to learn, it lives on these experiences and it evolves through these experiences.

So, all human progress is due to a brain that has been developing, has been evolving in this model of experiencing, transforming this into knowledge because of the record, and making use of this knowledge in a practical way. This is something important in the context of the dream of life, as I've called it. The problem here arises when, psychologically, we are suggesting an experiencer, sustaining an experiencer. The whole problem with us, the whole problem in us, in this “me”, in this “I”, in this ego is that it is this psychological experiencer, it is this psychological entity that is psychologically registering the experiences. So, the sense of “I”, of the ego, this self-centered element in us is a fraud, it's an illusion; it's the one that is producing a quality of life in suffering, in conflict, in contradiction. So, we're always going through the experience and transforming it into something personal, egoic, for this illusory center.

When I talk to you, I'm not actually talking to you. I'm talking to the image that this “me”, this “I” has registered of who you are. So, this contact I have with you is a contact with an image, with a self-projection. I have this “like” or “dislike” of you, which is something egocentric, centered on this “me.” This is what is producing conflict in our relationships, suffering in our relationships, problems in our relationships. So, we're living in this illusory center, this false center, this “me”, this “ego”, this experiencer. The question here is: can we get rid of this, this illusory center, this false center, this experiencer? Because as long as this is present, there is no awareness of the Reality of God. That's the problem with the seeker, he seeks from this illusory center, from this ego, and all he can find from this illusory center is a projection of himself. So, our idea, our image, our belief about God is a projection of the “I” itself. You see? It's a projection of the ego itself.

So, to understand this movement of the “I”, which is the movement of the ego, is to strip oneself of this experiencer, to go beyond this “I”, this center. That’s when our brain can function in a very practical and objective way in the world, with its technical, functional learning, but we no longer have this model of psychological accumulation, of psychological learning, of identity that separates itself from the other on the basis of an image. If you praise me, I like you; if you criticize me, I don't like you. This “me”, this “I” is the whole problem. So, the whole problem with us is this “me”, this illusory center.

So, what is this encounter with Truth? What is this encounter with Divine Reality? It is the realization that in this instant, in this present moment, we can dispense with the illusion of this false center, which is the ego. So, the Truth of Self-Awareness lies in understanding that this illusory “I” is sustaining in our lives this illusion of separation between “me and life”, “me and the other”, “me and God”, because this “I” is the illusion. Allowing life to be what it is, living free from this particular center, from this projection that has as its principle experiences that haven't disappeared to this illusory center, getting rid of this is the end of suffering, the end of confusion, the end of illusion. So, at that moment, we can have an approach to what this encounter with God is, which is this encounter with Life free from the “I,” which is this encounter with the “other” free from the “I,” with the world free from the “I.”

Thus, an approach to oneself is the end of the illusion of this “me” through Self-Awareness. This is where the awareness of the Truth of Meditation becomes fundamental. Getting rid of this psychological content, memory, history, recollection, images about who I am, about who the other person is, about what life is. The end of the whole programmed model of thinking, feeling and acting, which is the conditioning model of society, of the world, of culture, and egoic life. The emptying of all this content is the approach to the Truth, the Truth of Self-Awareness, the Truth of Real Meditation. When all this psychological content, which is the “I,” disappears, something new is present.

So, all we need to do is find out what this present moment is without this content from the past, what a contact with this instant represents without this element that separates itself from this present moment in order to record it, to transform this instant into a memory and then act from this memory. So, it's a process that takes place in what I've called psychological time. So, this present moment becomes very important for the ego, because it transforms this moment into a collection, into a memory, into a past, and when it is always faced with the next present moment, it is faced with this moment based on this past. So, in the ego, we are always acting from the past in this instant. That's when we turn this present moment of pure experiencing into a mere personal experience. Thus, we are always being personal in our relationships, personal in our actions, personal in our behavior, personal at every moment in this life, in this extraordinary movement that is Life in its Grace, in its Beauty, in its Wholeness. We are always in this psychological time – past, present and future. This explains the whole internal state of suffering present in the ego. Anxiety, the anticipation of a psychological future for the ego, anguish, depression, frustration, is this psychological past for the “I”, for the ego here, in this moment. And for the ego, this moment is one of conflict, contradiction and therefore of suffering, because it lives in time: past, present and future.

The realization of the Reality of God, the realization of the Reality of your Being is the end of this “I” that is the experiencer, that is the element that lives in this cultivation of memories, of psychological memories. I think it's already clear: on one level, memory is necessary, on another level it's the problem.

Here in this work, we are becoming aware of the Reality of God, aware of the Reality of your own Being, of Divine Truth, which represents the end of psychological time, the end for this ego-identity. So, this is God-realization, Spiritual Awakening or Spiritual Enlightenment. To have an approach to the movement of life without this psychological movement of the mind is to live without conflict, to live without suffering, to live without illusions. So, we are together investigating this, exploring this, working towards the end of this illusion of this person, of this “me”, of this illusory center.

We have online meetings here for this purpose. They take place on weekends, as mentioned. You can find our WhatsApp group here in the video description to take part in these meetings. We also have face-to-face meetings – including retreats – where we work on this with you. So, if this is something that touches you, if this is something that makes sense to you, go ahead and leave your “like,” subscribe to the channel and put “Yes, it makes sense” in the comment, OK?

So, that's our invitation, and we'll see you. Thanks for the meeting and see you next time!

Joel Goldsmith | A parenthesis in Eternity | The Truth of this Power of Now | Master Gualberto

GC: Hello everyone! We are here for another videocast. Master Gualberto is here with us again. Gratitude, Master, for being here once again. Master, today I want to read an excerpt from Joel Goldsmith’s book called “A parenthesis in Eternity.” The excerpt from the book is as follows: “Yesterday and tomorrow, therefore, must be discarded now. Now is the only life, now is the only reality, now is the only time.” Master, can you tell us what this “now” is?

MG: There is a way to approach this issue, Gilson. First, removing this illusion we have about what we call “the now.” For us, “now” has, psychologically, the meaning of this instant, this present moment, but the Truth about the Now is that we are dealing with something far beyond that. We are not necessarily talking about this issue of the present moment, this present instant. When we deal with the question of the importance, the beauty, and the value of the Now, we are dealing with the end of time that thought has formulated. So, the Truth about the Now is the end of time that thought has engendered and built.

Thought has constructed a time, which is the time that we determine as “past, present and future,” for this “I,” for this experiencer of this moment. This is actually psychological time. This is the time we need to let go of. Thus, the understanding of the Truth of Now is the understanding of the end of this illusion of this psychological time created by thought.

It is not a question, Gilson, of getting rid of the past, nor the future, nor the present moment. The past, the present moment and the future, chronologically speaking, are important. In this dream of life, in this dream of existence, we need time. It is in time that we organize ourselves for tasks, for commitments. So, our chronological agenda is important. Therefore, the past had an importance, the present is having an importance and tomorrow will have an importance, only the importance of chronological time.

So, it’s not about putting an end to this “yesterday,” or this “tomorrow,” or this “today,” but rather the psychological past. The psychological past, the “I” element, ego, the notion in thought of someone existing now, who existed yesterday and will exist tomorrow, this psychological time, this “someone” who lives in this time, which is the time of the “I,” of the ego, needs to disappear. So, this is the end of this illusory notion of someone present here and now, who is coming from the past and going into the future.

So, this issue is a very important issue, of great relevance within these meetings here, because, basically, the ego in us lives in time. It depends on knowledge, which is memory, which is past, which is thought, to maintain its continuity. It is a very simple subject and, at the same time, with a complexity that seems absurd to the ego. We need to approach this in a very clear way, investigating the nature of psychological time, which is the nature of this ego, which has thought as its structure and basis… accumulated thought, stored thought: the past! This is what we need to get rid of.

When we talk, for example, about the death of the “I,” the ego death, we are not talking about the death of a real entity, we are simply talking about the end of the past. This is the true approach we have to have about the Truth of death. So, it's another issue that we can, at another time, delve into here: the grace, the beauty of the understanding of what to die is in fact. This “dying” moment by moment is not dying to this chronological moment, it is dying to this psychological moment, which is the past, which is the “I,” which is the ego.

The encounter, Gilson, with this Realization of your Being is the Revelation of your Being Now, and this Reality is Now! It’s not “always now,” it’s Now! All this notion of time disappears. The word “always” still denotes time, and here the Reality of this instant is the Reality of this Being now, which is this Truth, which is the Divine Truth, the Only Reality, the Only Truth in this instant, in this – now let’s put it this way – present moment, but it transcends this so-called “now” of the present moment.

I see people say: “It’s important to live in the Now.” One cannot live in the Now! When the Now is, there is no person. I see people talking about the importance of living in the Now because they have read about it, heard someone talk about it – Eckhart Tolle, for example, talks a lot about the Now –, but what I notice is that people, when they make questions here, they sometimes ask, in this particular vision of what they have read by Eckhart Tolle or someone else, and there is this confusion in their heads. They do not understand Eckhart Tolle's Real Vision on this issue of the Now. Eckhart Tolle is not talking about this matter of chronological time.

When he was going to give a conference, a lecture, like us here... we have a meeting, and we have a moment set on the clock and the day is set. This is part of chronological time; we cannot eliminate it. This is not what needs to be eliminated, but rather the illusion of this illusory center, which is the “I,” which lives in psychological time, in this mistaken notion that it came from the past, is living in the present moment and is heading towards the future. This is how the ego lives!

So, when a person says: “It’s important for us to enter the Now” ... We don’t enter the Now! When there is the Now, this “person” disappears! So, there is no way you can be in the Now. It is exactly the Presence of this Real Truth, which is Being, which is Pure Consciousness, which is the absence of this “you,” which is present in this instant, in this Truth of the Now, and not in this time, not in this notion of merely chronological time, where someone enters and is there.

These are distortions of the intellect itself regarding teachings about the Truth of the Now. This explains, Gilson, why people are reading books – including books by Eckhart Tolle and other books – and do not get out of that condition: because, intellectually, they believe they have understood and affirm it as if it were a truth for them, while, in reality, what they have is intellectualism, it's one more belief, one more concept, one more learned thing.

These encounters with the Truth of your Being break the movement of this sense of an “I,” of an ego-identity and, therefore, this limit, which is the limit of intellectual knowledge. That's why the emphasis here is always this: There's no point in studying, there's no point in reading, there's no point in memorizing words, because you'll just repeat something as if it were true for you, and what we have is a belief, it's just one more belief. Belief is not Reality. Reality is one thing; belief is another thing. Belief is intellectual, belief is verbal, belief is conceptual, belief requires the goodwill of the “I” to want to believe – because it may not want to believe or it may believe in a different way. So, belief is in the intellect. This is the Truth of the Now!

GC: Master, I often fell into this trick within the studies of “practicing the Now,” “being in the Now.” In fact, there are many videos on YouTube talking about this. In fact, it is recommended that our thinking be in the present: if we are walking, may we be present walking, taking one step and then another... and it ends up that, in the ego's naughtiness, ego is there present in this “now.” And it's hilarious to realize this now, Master, because, in Satsang, this sharing of this Presence, which the Master brings, this moment happens, which is a Real Now, but then there is a Real Now, there is no longer an “I” in this Now, is it so, Master? So, this prank is the most common thing, and I fell for that for a long time. Only with a Master now, from Satsang to Satsang, did I realize how much the ego, in its naughtiness, kept me in a “pseudo-now.”

MG: What happens, Gilson, is that, in truth, we need this instant, this present moment, to realize the Reality of What is, That which we are, the Truth, yes, of this Now. So far, so good. So, it is in this instant, it is in this present moment, that we need to become aware of the movement of the “I,” the movement of thought, the movement that arises and originates in the past and comes as memory and reacts to this instant. So, the work consists, in fact, in becoming, in this instant, in this present moment, in this chronological instant, [aware] of this psychological “truth,” which is just the past appearing in this instant. So far, so good.

The problem arises when we don't know what, in fact, this observation of this movement means, the awareness of this movement, which is the movement of the past in this instant, in this present moment. So, what does the intellect do? The intellect, conditioned as it is, makes a big deal out of it. So, when you believe that you are really in a certain practice – which is this so-called “practicing the Now,” “practicing the Presence,” as people generally say –, the moment of realizing the illusion of this false identity, yes, is always in this instant, in this present moment. And here I used the words “always,” “right now” and “in this present moment.” Of course, I'm speaking chronologically! It's true, it's right now, but the awareness of that must be done right now... we have to have a careful approach to this, because, if we place the “I” element, which is the “ego” element, to be present in the Now, we are under an illusion, because this “I,” this ego, is the presence of psychological time, it is exactly the presence of the past.

So, this “I,” this ego, this sense of identity, which is the person, is exactly the absence of the Truth of this Being now. So, it is not as simple as the intellect makes it appear to be when it says “I have to practice the Presence,” “I will practice the Presence,” “I need to be in the Now,” and soon, you are in a big trap created by the conditioned intellect itself, which is the ego, behind this movement of practice. So, practicing the Presence, practicing the Now… Who is going to practice the Presence? Who will practice the Now?

All this needs to be seen, all this needs to be understood. The difficulty is in reading, studying, listening to lectures… This doesn’t work! You can spend a long time, and perhaps a lifetime, occupied with listening to lectures and reading books, and nothing real, nothing meaningful, will happen, because there is no Truth of this direct Understanding.

This is a matter of the Power of this Grace, of the Power of this Presence. That makes It possible. And one of the things that I have noticed is that, in the ego, we have eliminated this mysterious factor, which is the very Power of this Presence, which is the Power of Grace, to realize This. It's not the person who does it, it's Grace! It's an extensive subject, because then we would have to get into this question of Meditation, what the Truth of Meditation is, what the approach of the Truth of Self-awareness is, because, without Self-awareness, there is no Meditation, and, without True Meditation, there is not this Real Vision of what this Now is. Alright? So, that's the point, Gilson!

GC: Master, it's funny, because, for example, I – bringing back memories… but I remember saying: “Ah, I feel really good when I practice the Presence, when I'm in the Now!” And then comes another trick of the ego, because there was “Ah, I’m practicing being present,” then, after a while, a feeling of peace came… and then the ego took over… very present there: “I’m feeling peace!” And the trick, this ego trick, continues to flow, right, Master? The same way with meditation: I meditated… “I feel good when I meditate!” So, this now opens the door for the Master to talk a little about True Meditation.

MG: This Truth about Meditation is something very, very delicate. Delicate why? Because, in general, we make a very unreasonable simplification, out of ignorance. We believe that whatever we are practicing is meditation. So, we learned here, in our culture, in our western world, that meditation can be done even while sleeping! You download an app on your cell phone and practice meditation, or you turn to techniques designed and built by meditation experts. What we did here, Gilson, in the West, was to take this word from the East and transform it into a convenience for us. So, intellectually, people build meditation systems, techniques and practices, and they believe they are meditating, they believe they are part of a meditative practice.

We don't know what Meditation is. First, Gilson, first of all: Meditation requires emptying – understand this, guys! –, requires an emptying of this psychological content of this mind as we know it. People want to sit and concentrate, they want to sit and say affirmations with words, they want to sit listening to silent music, relax their body, and then relax their mind. And they believe that by relaxing the body and relaxing the mind, and through concentration or repeating a mantra, or a phrase, or breathing in a certain way, they are in meditation.

Understand one thing, guys: Meditation requires a free mind. Meditation is only present when the mind has been purged, it has been emptied of the weight of psychological content that it carries. So, the Truth about Meditation is that the mind needs to be modified, and here, modified in the sense of being purified, purged, emptied of its contents. When it is emptied of its old contents, there is a space that opens, of Stillness, of Silence… Then something reveals itself! This is an action of the power of Grace itself, of Presence itself, and this does not occur without, first, awareness of the movement of the mind itself, which is Self-awareness, which is the awareness of looking at this movement of the “I,” which is this background of present psychological conditioning, which is all this content of the mind.

When the mind is emptied of this content, because its movement is being observed, there is awareness of this observation of this movement, and this, evidently, is something that occurs in this instant, in this present moment, in this Now. So, when this occurs, it is possible to empty this content, purify the mind, and naturally to silence this mind. Then, That which is indescribable, which is beyond psychological time, which is beyond chronological time itself, begins to reveal itself, which is the Reality that is outside the known, so we are, in truth, facing True Meditation.

That's why I have called it “Real Meditation,” “True Meditation,” because it is the correct Meditation. It is contact with a Reality where the “I” is not. Now, whatever people are doing, setting aside moments, setting aside minutes, setting aside hours to meditate, it can quiet the mind, it can silence the mind based on discipline. And it is important that we touch on this issue of discipline here. The Truth of Meditation does not require discipline, does not require concentration. Why, Gilson? Concentration is what is present when a desire is being contradicted and another appears to bring order to it. So, concentration is forcing the mind to get rid of one desire because it has another one.

People want to force themselves to silence their mind, to stop their mind. This is just a desire of the mind itself, which is still the ego, imposing self-discipline on itself. This is resistance, this is conflict, this is exactly the absence of Meditation! So, not only does the practice of concentration not bring you closer to the Truth of Meditation, but in this resistance, the ego strengthens even more!

Of course, over time, the mind, in a mechanical way, begins to quiet down due to discipline, but it is a stillness of the mind by the mind. After the person leaves meditation, one remains the same person, without any awareness of the movement of the “I,” of the emptying of this content, because there is no emptying at all! This is why, Gilson, people practice meditation for forty years, for fifty years and continue in this “sense of person,” still worried, anxious, angry, choleric, full of fear: because the ego is present!

There is no Truth in this so-called “meditation” with goals. And what is this goal? It is basically achieving purposes that the ego itself is establishing for itself, which are: stopping the mind, calming down, de-stressing... And the purpose of Real, True Meditation is the end of this sense of the ego, Gilson. It is the Realization of That which is You in your Being, is God Realization, and no one deals with it, and no one talks about it! It's simple why no one talks about this: because it's not in the ego's interest! Everything the ego wants is what it wants, and everything it wants is part of it! Do you see?

So, this is what we have to understand! We cannot dissociate Truth from Self-awareness. And here, the word “Self-Awareness” – those who have been following us have already realized it – has nothing to do with what psychology deals with, nor with what philosophy deals with by that name or with any other science out there dealing with this... We are not dealing with something that we can do, technically, mechanically, based on a system. Self-Awareness requires an approach to oneself, where there is a natural Truth revealing itself beyond this self-discipline engendered by the ego.

I am not denying, Gilson, here, the beauty of this “burning” for the Truth and having this deep interest in the Revelation of It. This, yes, requires something that is a discipline of another order; It is not this discipline of imposing on oneself, through one desire, the end of another desire. It is the discipline that arises very naturally from this deep interest and from being “burning” for the Truth, to look… just look, without resisting, without fighting, without doing anything with this movement of thought that appears at this moment, without separating yourself from it.

Our time here is too short for us to put this more broadly, but Meditation is the awareness of observing the movement of the mind, just becoming aware of that movement. This may seem simple speaking, but in evidence, showing this in a real way, in the practice of living, this requires an energy of being, moment by moment, instant by instant, aware of oneself, just becoming aware of this movement, which is the movement of the “I.” So, at that moment, yes, the awareness of this Truth becomes possible, this indescribable, nameless Presence, which is beyond time, beyond everything that is known, beyond this clock time, beyond this psychological time, beyond this sense of an “I,” beyond this past, present and future; we have the revelation of this Silence, this Stillness, this Presence, this nameless “thing,” which is the Truth of Meditation, which is the Truth of this Power of the Now, this Power of this Beauty, this unspeakable “thing.” That's it.

GC: Gratitude, gratitude, Master! This vision that the Master brings of what this Power of the Now really is, of what this True Meditation really is, is truly incredible and unique. I had many years of meditation practice, of sitting and meditating and, by Grace, as I met the Master, this illusion was swept away, that it had become a therapeutic technique to alleviate internal conflicts, but it was just masking something that had to be seen. And, by Grace, in these intensives, in Satsang with the Master, I am able to see this “I,” these thoughts, this identity, this illusion.

But, Master, our time has come. Thank you for this videocast. For those of you watching the video, leave a “like,” make a comment, bring questions, you can ask questions here. And also, in the first comment, pinned, there will be the link to the playlist of the meetings – we have already had several videocasts –, if you want to watch others, and also the link to the WhatsApp group with information about the intensive meetings, called “Satsangs,” together with the Master, which are a unique opportunity to deepen this self-investigation and discover this true Now, discover it by living this True Meditation. See you soon! Gratitude, Master.

MG: Ok, guys. See you soon!

The God Realization | Egoic mind | Psychological order | Psychological chatter | Totality of Life

The issue of internal order. Let's talk about it. We want to have an external life in order, balanced, calm, and at peace. However, there is no internal order, inner balance, inner peace. What is the importance of this psychological order within us? What is psychological order? And what is the importance of this?

It is necessary to order yourself internally, to carry this internal authority of psychological Freedom. We have a restless mind, we do not have an organized mind, there is no Silence within us. There is nothing as important as Silence. How do we deal with thought? What is thought in each of us? We don't have a silent brain. So, we need to discover how we work, we need this internal order, we need to discover how thought processes within each of us.

Notice that thought is restless. Realize that thought is in a movement of internal restlessness, it is always moving from one subject to another, it is always moving within you, and with it you get confused, with it you identify. So, you don't separate yourself from it, you feel like you are it, and if it changes from one subject to another, you internally are constantly changing from one subject to another, from one state to another, from one feeling to the next, from one emotion to another. Just as thinking changes, feeling changes, and we are not aware of how we work.

We don't realize that between one thought and another there is a space, and it's strange for you to hear that. Some of us – in fact, the majority – are not even aware of what we are talking about here, that there is a space between one thought and another. You never see that space, you never notice that between one feeling and another there is a space, between one emotion and another emotion there is a space, between one sensation and another sensation there is a space. In general, we don't realize this. This requires a certain awareness of oneself, a certain observation of how you work.

In general, human beings do not pay attention to themselves. They have to work, they have to earn money, they have to pay their bills, they have to take their children to school, they have to accomplish a lot of things outside of themselves. And all thoughts that revolve around the human being, revolve within this purpose, which is the purpose of ordering and placing the external life in a certain way that there is fulfillment and satisfaction for them.

So, we go through life, after forty, seventy years, we start a family, we raise children, we already have grandchildren, but we never observe ourselves, how we work. And because we don't observe ourselves, we don't know what Consciousness is. We are always aware of things, but it is this “I” that is aware of what is around it, it is this “I” filling itself in the things that are around it. This is complete unconsciousness. We are not aware of ourselves, we cannot see this space between one thought and another, between one feeling and another, between one emotion and another emotion. There is no Silence, there is no Stillness, there is no Freedom, there is no Truth in our lives. So, we walk to the grave in a totally unconscious way.

When you come to these meetings, we are here looking at something different. Life is happening out there and you are becoming aware of the inner movement of the “I.” You are becoming aware of the movement of thought, of feeling, of emotion, you are investigating yourself, you are studying yourself, you are finding that psychological order, you are discovering the truth about yourself, you are getting in touch with Something outside of the known, you are coming into contact with Reality. Each person gives a certain name to this Reality, but the names do not matter, what matters is the Truth of this Reality revealing itself. This is the awareness of who You are. So now there is Peace, then now there is Freedom, then now there is Truth, then now there is understanding in your life, because there is psychological order, physical order, emotional, sentimental order. You are living the Truth because you are aware of the Truth about who You are.

So, in these meetings we are studying this, studying ourselves, understanding how we work, realizing what this is, what this disorder is, what this confusion is, why life has been like this. So, approaching this psychological order, this emotional, sentimental order, this order of life requires approaching the investigation of disorder, this internal disorder. What is thought? What is emotion? What is feeling? What is this that happens in our relationships? Why am I hurt, offended, upset? What is this anger? What is this fear? What is this inner chatter? Why all the fuss? Why this thing of going from one thought to another? And I don't even notice that this is happening. Why all this?

So, this approach to looking at yourself is the Truth of knowing yourself. So, knowing yourself is getting closer to Meditation. Looking at what is happening inside you is Self-awareness. So, the Truth of this Self-awareness brings you closer to Meditation, and Meditation is becoming aware of this space, of what this interval represents between one thought and another, between one feeling and another, one sensation and another, one emotion and another. Meditation is being disidentified from the mind and body, in the awareness of the Truth of That which is in this Unknown, in this space that opens up within this Attention, where this interval is found.

Notice how interesting this is. When you look at a musical score, you think you are in front of sound, but a musical score has the design of spaces of silence that represent time of stillness. So, between one sound and another, you are faced with this space of silence, this time of silence. So, those figures show a time of silence. So, the sound makes sense, a beautiful sense. But, when there is this space, it is the space of silence between one note and another that determines the beauty of the sound, the beauty of the music. The totality of music is in sound and silence. So, pauses of silence are as important as musical notes. The notes have a timing and the pauses have a timing, so there is the totality of the song.

In our life, there will only be Beauty, there will only be Truth, there will only be Love when we are in this Totality of Life, and there is no Totality of Life if you are in this mind, in this psychological mind, in this restless mind, in this egoic mind, in this condition of psychological disorder. There is no Totality of Life if there is no Silence, if you are not aware of Silence.

When you realize the Truth of your Being, the talk, the look and the thinking are born from Silence. Note that you don't know how to think. You don't know what it's like to think. It's a big illusion that you think. Thoughts are processed in you, but it is exactly as we said just now: a thought that is associated with another, that is associated with another, that is associated with another. There is no awareness of space between one thought and another. This occurs in your brain in an automatic, mechanical, unconscious way, without any awareness of what is happening to you. So, you don't think. There is no “you” in this thought, there is only thought, there is only this unconsciousness, mechanicalness, restlessness, there is only this inner chatter. This is psychological disorder in us.

So, we don't know what the Totality of Life is because we don't understand how we function, we don't know what thought is, how it processes and what thinking is. There is no thinking from Silence, there is no looking from Silence, we do not have a very clear, objective, lucid, Real life. We don't live this Totality of Being who we are, we don't know the music. We make a lot of noise, but it's a disorderly thing. It is not harmony. They call it cacophony – it’s all that noise. It's not an orchestra. It's a mess, it's a confusion. That's how we work. The “I” works like this, the ego is this.

So, we lack this Totality of Life, this Beauty of Life, because there is no psychological order, there is no emotional order, there is no order of feelings, there is no order of thoughts. There is no order. The understanding of who we are, the end of all this confusion, all this disorder of sound, all this noise, this internal orchestration – what I called just now as ordering oneself –, being aware of That which is You, aware of the Truth of your Being. So, what do we have now? God Realization, the Realization of Truth, the Realization of your Natural State of Being. This is order. This is music. This is Silence.

So, what do we do here together? We are studying who we are, studying what is happening inside each of us, we are looking at how we work, becoming aware of it. If this is not present, we are in confusion, we are in suffering, we have all these frames of internal unhappiness, because there is no psychological order, there is no Freedom, there is no Being, there is no Consciousness, there is no music. We know this unhappiness. Anxiety, anguish, boredom, loneliness, fear, different fears that we have, every type of internal state of suffering is present when you do not understand the Truth of your Being, when you do not assume That.

So, that's the topic here, okay?

Action based on the ego | The Presence of Compassion | A life free from ego | Action self-centered

Let’s talk, here, about the crucial matter of action. Action is a foremost subject. Let us investigate the importance of this Free action. Notice that our actions determine life, this so-called “my life,” “our life.” Life consists of actions. Now, here at the moment, this speaking is an action; this listening is also an action. So, right now, we are before a challenge: the challenge of a Free action for this speech to reach you and for you, in fact, to have a direct understanding of what we say here. Thus, perceive that this speech or communication needs to happen within a simple and straight communion; otherwise, there will be no communication and there will not be any Truth in this meeting. Therefore, this is an example of action happening.

In general, our actions are conflicting. They are actions that come into contradiction, into conflict, because there is no internal disposition of communion in the actions. We have a model of thought – which I have called the conditioned mind, a brain trapped in this pattern of conditioning – in which our actions are born from a will, a desire, a wanting. And most of these actions are not in accordance with our own common sense. So, there is something in us that tells us that if we do this, there will be suffering and problems during the action or after it. And yet, we insist. So, we do what we do not want to do, but we do it because we want to do it, because we are driven to do it.

This is a pattern of the “I” itself, the ego itself, of the person, as we see ourselves within this moment, within a state of contradiction. We think one thing, we feel another thing, and often we do a third thing that disagrees with that feeling and thinking. So, psychologically, we are conditioned. There is a psychological conditioning present in us that prevents us from taking free action. And here I call free action what I will explain now, here, in the next few minutes. An intelligent action born out of this direct understanding of what this moment here means. See what we are saying: this moment is a moment of challenge. We have just given an example here: this communication is only possible if there is this communion. If, for example, while I speak here, you internally simply agree or disagree, you are not simply following the speech in this communion since you are listening to the speech from the viewpoint of the intellect. Then, there is no communion because, intellectually, you are separating, dividing, and dissecting this speech to see if you agree or disagree with it. This is an example of conflicting action because there is no communion.

Communion is not the acceptance of the speech, nor is it disagreement with the speech. Communion is following and seeing the Truth or the non-Truth of what is being said. But this is something beyond an intellect that judges, compares, and looks from the background of a preformed, a pre-established concept of what is true and what is false. Notice that we are before something delicate: the issue of Free action. This requires the past to not be present. So, let's now go deeper into this and make it clearer for you.

Our actions at this moment arise from a background of memory, remembrance, and recognition, as in the example here of listening to a speech. Our actions are born at any level, at the verbal level – at the level of speech, of listening, of action, of gestures – they all are born from this background, from memory, and experience. We go through experiences, we record them and when they are repeated, they repeat themselves in this action format. This is the condition of action that comes from the past, from that background, and that memory. Follow that carefully. From a functional viewpoint in life, we need this stored knowledge, this record, this past experience. When listening to this speech, the words need to be understood. This has to be present, deep in your memory. Recognizing words and having knowledge of the language – Portuguese or English — is acquired knowledge, acquired experience. At this level, we are facing technical and practical action. So, at this level, we need knowledge.

I always use the example of driving a car to make it very clear to you who follow these talks. Driving a car is knowledge you have, but you don't have knowledge about flying a plane! So, the plane will not move with you because you have no knowledge about it. If you don't have knowledge, you don't have memory, you don't have remembrance, and you don't have experience, because you've never lived it. It's an unfamiliar experience. If it is unknown, it is not there, so it is not technical information that you have. At this level, we need to have experience, we must know what works there.

So, this brain's ability to store memories, information, knowledge, and thoughts — all of this is important at this level. The problem is that in life, it does not just consist of actions at this level — technical, practical, and objective actions. We also have actions that require the presence of something beyond this technical, practical and objective aspect. For example, contact with another person, for this contact to be Real without conflict, suffering, contradiction, problems, fear, desires, envy, jealousy, possession, or control... because all of this determines suffering in our lives and relationships, because it consists of an action based on this “I,” this ego. Thus, our actions are self-centered in our relationships with others and with ourselves.

For example, in our relationship with ourselves, we also feel guilt, remorse, regret, anguish, frustration, loneliness, and rejection. All of this is present in this ego, in this person we believe we are. And all that occurs because the present action is of this illusory “I.” This is where we are inviting you to an action free from the “I” in contact with others, with yourself, with life... which represents a life free from the ego, free from this “I” that lives in this model of separation, where there is “I” and “not-I,” where there is “he and I,” where there is this “I want,” “I don't want,” “I like,” “I don’t like.” If you praise me, I like you, if you criticize me, I don't like you, or I may even hate you. So, our actions centered on this ego, on this “I,” are self-centered, something that puts us in a situation in life where there are problems and suffering. Is a free life possible? This requires action of a different quality in this contact with others, with life, and with ourselves!

So, see: from a practical and objective viewpoint, technical knowledge for very reasonable and functional subjects, in this dream of existence, is perfect. At this level, thought, memory, and remembrance are necessary. But psychologically, living as someone within this psychological time, bringing from yesterday a memory of insult or praise, of liking or not liking what is here and now, is completely conflicting

The condition of “I” is conflict and suffering. So, our life is a life in the ego, a life of anguish, anxiety, depression, and fear. My relationship with everything around me is based on the illusion of this person… What is this person that I am to myself? An idea! I make an image, an idea, or a concept of myself. I also make an image, an idea, and a concept of you. Our relationship with our wife, children, family, and the world around us is always a relationship without Freedom, because there is always an illusory center that is the “I.” Is it possible to live without creating these images in your relationships with others and without having an image of yourself? Perceive the beauty of this, what it means to never again be hurt, wounded, offended and then having to forgive, reconcile... or attacking the other and becoming his enemy. Living free from this psychological dependence of wanting to be loved and accepted – this is the life of the ego, it is the life of this self-image that I have of myself. Alright?

That's what we're working on here, making it clear to you: an action happening right now, happening at this moment, without the past, without background. It is possible to live at this moment and not let it cause a record within the brain that can then be at the service of that center that is the “I,” that false identity that is the person, that is this image I make of myself. It is possible to live without recording what is not necessary, keeping only what is important. Your name and remembering your face are important. In your relationship with the closest person at home and with those who live with you daily, remembering each person's name and the way of each one is important. But can I remain free from any image of who he is, who she is, or who I am? Here, we are telling you that this is possible when the brain starts working in an entirely new, different way. Becoming aware of yourself here and now and realizing how this mechanism, which is the mind, creates images and records these images. Becoming aware of this means getting closer to the truth of knowing yourself and understanding how you work. So, this is the Truth of Self-Awareness. To know yourself, to become aware of the movement of this “me,” this “I, and to liberate it in such a way that you no longer register these images. That’s when your relationship with the other, without these images, is a relationship of another quality. This is when the Truth of your Being is present, which is the Truth of God.

So, it is the Presence of Love in your relationship with your wife, husband, children, family, and the world around you. Not this thing we call “love,” full of attachment, desire, control, jealousy, and fear. There is a lot of fear present within each of us in this sense of “I.” The fear of losing, of being betrayed, of being deceived, of not having more. You have different fears, different and several fears. There is also this escape mechanism within each of us when fear arises. When we lose something, for example, we quickly replace it with something else. We don't realize that this is a way of escaping from pain, we never look closely at who is in pain, which is this mechanism, this illusory center guarding and preserving this image, attached to this image. So, we are always in this movement of escape. We know several psychological escape mechanisms to escape, for example, from this pain.

So, our work here is to investigate the nature of this “I” and what this action is here and now without this “I.” Only with this action without the “I” do we have the Presence of Real Love. The Presence of Love is the absence of this “I and the other”; it is the Presence of Beauty, of Truth, God, of Compassion. Love is present because Truth is present. In this Truth, we have this Natural Intelligence. Perceive the importance of this Natural Intelligence in relationships. We need to get closer to what this Natural Intelligence is – here I am not referring to this human intelligence – beyond this so-called “human intelligence,” this Intelligence of Being Pure Consciousness, which is the Presence of Love.

Therefore, this action free from the “I,” the ego, which is the Reality of the action in Love, notice it: it’s an action free of time. There is no longer this notion of past, present, and future. There is no longer this sense of an “I” seeking to become someone better or accomplish something out there, because everything is here, at this moment. This “out there” is the notion of time. Between this “in here” and this “out there,” there is this illusion of separation and, therefore, this notion of space and time. That's another thing: we live in this expectation of achieving something tomorrow, of accomplishing something later, of being happy, having peace and freedom tomorrow, of learning to love and to act correctly tomorrow. This ideation, this project, and this concept are projections of the ego itself. This sense of “I” does that because it seeks to escape the Truth, the verification that it is a fraud, so it projects itself.

We can spend a lot of time in our lives, maybe a whole life, on this ideal of finding God, peace, happiness, and the right action. So, we keep asking, What is the right action? How do I act correctly? How to love? How to be happy? How do I get rid of fear? All of this implies the idea of time — something to be achieved tomorrow. And here we are telling you: it is here and now! The Truth of the action free from the “I” is the action free from this illusory center, which is the person, the ego. It is the Presence of your Being, where the Reality of God is the only Truth present.

So, this is our work here with you within the channel. We also have online meetings on the weekends. Here's the invitation! You can find our WhatsApp link here in the video description to learn more about this and participate in these meetings. We also have face-to-face meetings and, in addition, retreats, ok? What is Life? | What is Enlightenment? | Your Natural State is Enlightenment | What is thought?

The question is: what is Life? Another question is: what is Enlightenment? What is Spiritual Enlightenment? It seems like two questions. So, apparently, we have gotten two questions here – is that so? Actually, we're asking one single question.

The Truth of Spiritual Enlightenment or Enlightenment, if well understood... here we put this expression, maybe in a different sense than most people do. We talk about the Awakening of the Truth of your Real Nature, something outside the known, outside this model of time and space as we know it, something different from anything thought can formulate. Life is something else. So, this Awakening, or Enlightenment, and Life are the same thing.

If you have an approach to the truth of yourself here and now, at this instant, liberating from you this known model, which is the model of the thinker, the experiencer, the observer – here I refer to the one who thinks, the one who sees and the one who experiences – if you have a true approach to yourself, there will be a liberation from this model; then, we will be before the end of the experiencer, the observer and the thinker. That is the Truth of Life. There is only Life at this instant, at this present moment.

Everything happening here, at this instant, does not require the presence of a thinker, an observer, or an experiencer. Life is what happens, what It makes it to be, what it shows itself to be. What it is right now is what it IS. That's Life! There is no “I,” no personal element present in life. That's Enlightenment. So, what is Enlightenment? It is the Reality without the “I.” What is Life? It is the Reality without the “I.” The Reality of What Is is Life. The Truth of Being, without the sense of “I,” is Life, Enlightenment.

We need to investigate the nature of this thinker. Observe that thoughts are happening in you, but the central idea is that you are thinking those thoughts. Notice the illusion of this. You do not think thoughts – they create, sustain, project ideas, formulate images, something that is the result of the known, of what has already been experienced and shows itself, at that moment, as a reaction from the past. Through the brain, this shows itself as an expression, with a form, a model, a specific way of manifesting in Existence, which we call “thought.”

So, what is the thought? Thought is memory. Thought is a reaction, a response given to this present moment by the brain. The brain has records and recordings within; it has remembrances and memories, and it reacts at that moment with this format called “thought.” It is something automatic. You say: “My heart is beating.” That's just an idea, a concept, a belief. There is a heart beating, okay, but it is not “my” heart beating. In the same way, thought is happening, but it is not “my” thought.

Notice that. Thought is not your property simply because you, as an entity present at that instant, are as illusory as a person making the heartbeat, owning it, and being in control of it. The heart is part of the body. You see yourself as an entity present within the body and, therefore, the owner of the body, of the heart, but it is a belief, just as it is a belief to believe that you make the heart beat; in the same way, that you make the brain think.

The brain is reacting with images, memories, and recollections. Something appears before your eyes that you say “my eyes,” and now you have just understood it: they are the eyes of the body. Just as this body is part of Existence, of the Manifestation, which could say “my body,” but you do not have the authority to say “my body” because you do not control it, you do not determine anything at all about the functions, the work, Life, and the Vital Energy present in that organism. All of this is under the control of Existence, Nature, Life – whatever you want to call it.

So, Nature, Existence, and Life own the body, just as the eyes. So, something appears in front of “your” eyes; it looks like you are seeing it, and, in reality, the brain is detecting that image and responding. Then, it is a whole movement of Existence, of Life itself. The body's existence, the beating of the heart, thought, digestion, and everything else happen because of the presence of Life. Thus, what is the Truth of Life? It is the Truth of Enlightenment. There is no “someone” in it. There is a Reality present, and that Reality is What is beyond this model of the “I.” It is the “I” that sees itself as the thinker, as the experiencer, as the observer. But it is an idea, a concept, an imagination.

Life is happening right now. The idea of an “I” present is definitely creating all kinds of suffering, confusion, disorder, and all this commotion in the world, something produced by this sense of the “I” present. “I,” “you,” “us,” and “them;” we are separate from each other, from Life, from Divine Reality. The idea of this “I” is separateness and duality. It is the sense of a thinker with their thoughts, an observer with the thing it observes, an experiencer having its experiences, someone alive having a life it can lose. That represents suffering and fear.

So, our psychological states are states of this “I,” this “center,” this “person,” this “identity” that separates itself from life. Thus, it is a center. That is the model of an identity that has separated itself from life, from the other, from God, from everything, seeking control over everything and therefore having fear and all the psychological afflictions engendered by this model of thought that has been repeated for millennia in humanity and is now present within you.

Thus, notice this: all of this is constructed by this formulation, this reflection, this sampling, which is the thought. We do not know how it works. Thought is creating and producing all this in our lives. It has constructed the idea of an “I” that separates itself. An “I” that separates itself to be the one that observes things, that makes things happen, thinks about the thoughts it has, to be this entity that has these feelings, living this isolated and separate life. All of this is something that thought has built up.

We do not know what thought is and what it represents. We are functioning based on memory, on the past. We go through experiences, and in going through them, we keep those experiences as remembrances, as memories. We mistake these “going through experiences” for “someone” going through these experiences because we identify with the body as we have just said: we believe we are “someone” present inside the body; this human consciousness in us is limited to this consciousness of this body. We have the idea of an individual consciousness, of a real individuality present, of a consciousness separate from the rest of humanity. It is “my consciousness,” “my body,” “my experience,” and “my memories,” all of which are the result of thought that has created this sense of an “I,” an experiencer, a thinker, a doer present.

So, our life in the “I,” in the ego, consists of this idea: “I was, I am, and I will be.” “I have problems today because of situations I experienced yesterday, but one day, I'll get rid of those problems,” there will be a day tomorrow for all this to happen. There was yesterday that, according to this thinking, is the cause of the problem I have today; however, there is today to solve yesterday's problems and to create a bright, astonishing, extraordinary future for “me,” for this “me” tomorrow. Then, we live in time – past, present, and future. That is the life of the “I,” of the ego, of the “person.” That is what is not present in this Natural State, which is Truth revealing itself as Life itself as It is. It is the Nature of this Being we are, Life as It Is.

So, in your Natural State, which is Enlightenment or Realization of God, the Awakening of Real Consciousness or this New Consciousness – the names are various – you in your Natural State of Being are free from this sense of separation and therefore free from this limitation created by thought. At that moment, there is a natural way of dealing with thoughts in a practical, simple, direct, objective way. Thinking is functional for driving a car, for doing math, and for a professional activity, you need thinking.

What is thought? It is also memory, recognition, something from the past, the result of an experience. Here, the experiencer of that experience, who stored that experience, is the brain itself, but we are talking about something simple and natural. However, in this objective, clear function does not carry this sense of separation, which is the “I,” the ego. When the ego arises, the sense of identity present in thought – even in this technical thinking – that all the confusion arises, all the suffering arises, all the human madness begins to happen. So, we build weapons and use violence because of ideas, of strategies thought creates with a goal, with a purpose of destruction, of generating more complication, more suffering in the world.

So, thought at the service of this illusory center that is the “I,” the ego, is at the service of illusion, suffering, confusion, the struggle between people, the conflict between them; however, thought itself is something functional, practical, objective. On a certain level, we need thought. But Life in your Being, in your Natural State of Being, is something that does not need it, does not depend on it, that is, by nature, free from thought and therefore from complications, from afflictions.

My relationship with the other can be a thought-free relationship. However, when thought is present, I have an image of others, and they have one of me. Our relationships based on these images are conflicting. There is this idea in the “I,” in the ego, in the “person,” “I like you,” “I don't like you.” If you satisfy me, if you please this “me,” this “I,” this person who, in fact, is an image I have of who I am – this “I” is a self-image – if you satisfy this image I have of myself, I like you; if you don't, I don't like you. So, there is conflict in our relationships because there is this sense of separation, this sense of division.

So, our life based on the “I,” on the ego, is conflict and suffering. Thought is occupying a place that is not its place. Then, human life, life in this sense of personhood, is always suffering, always conflicting, and problematic. Is it possible to have a life free of suffering and therefore free of this sense of thought in this format, of this sense of separateness that is the “I”? Such a life is the Realization of God. Such a life is Spiritual Enlightenment. Such a life is free from the sense of separation, where this Divine Realization is present. This Divine Realization is Life. This Divine Realization is Spiritual Enlightenment. Thus, for this purpose, we are here together in these meetings.

We have online meetings on weekends. I invite you to join our WhatsApp group in the video description and get closer to this study of yourself with us in these meetings. We have face-to-face meetings and also retreats. So, if this is something that makes sense to you, I invite you to join us. Take this opportunity, leave your “like” and subscribe to the channel, OK?
