The Art of Meditation | What Is Meditation? | Marcos Gualberto | Joel Goldsmith

GC: Hello everyone! We're here for another videocast, and Master Gualberto is with us again. Thank you, Master, for being here. Today I'm going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "The Art of Meditation." In one passage of this book, Master, Joel made the following comment: "When consciousness is liberated through individual meditation, it no longer suffers the limitations of time and space." In this passage, Joel comments on liberation through meditation. Within this topic, Master, could you share Your vision on what Meditation is?

MG: The presence of Meditation involves the matter of the presence of the one who meditates. Who is this element present in meditation? It is the comprehension of this element, the clear vision of the "I," of the person. There is no true Meditation as a practice for someone-that's the great confusion. It is very common to have the idea of ??someone accomplishing something, doing something, obtaining something, or getting rid of something they don't want. That is the idea. We carry within us the sense of an identity that sees itself present here, in the present moment, sees itself active here, in this action.

Thus, when a thought is present, the idea is someone present being the author of that thought. When there is a feeling, there is someone involved in that feeling. Therefore, we are constantly sustaining the presence of the "I." The presence of the "I" is the presence of an entity that sees itself, at the moment, as the center and responsible for actions. Thus, it is an idea of ??an entity that sees itself present as the center of actions and of everything that arises around it. This center is the "I," the ego, the person.

So, what is Meditation? It is the comprehension of the "I." This is the basis for the revelation of something beyond the known, since the "I" is the presence of this mind-this mind that knows, that understands, that recognizes things. Is there an inner state free from knowledge, from knowing, from understanding? Is there a state free from separateness? It is separateness in the idea of ??someone who sees oneself separate from the present moment, someone acting, someone behaving, thinking, speaking, feeling.

This is the state we are discussing here with you. There is something present in life, the very presence of life. This Something present is the Reality of this Being, this Natural State free from the "I." This is the presence of Meditation! Your Natural State of Being, your Divine State of Being, the Reality of Being, That which is present here as life, is the presence of Bliss, of Happiness, of Love. Therefore, Meditation is your Natural State of Being when we assume the true comprehension of the "I." Therefore, we need to investigate the nature of the "I," the nature of the ego, this inclination of thought to sustain a present entity, being the thinker.

So, what is the basis for Meditation, for this Natural State of Being to flourish? The basis for Meditation is self-comprehension, it is the comprehension of the "I," it is the comprehension of this "me." When we don't have this basis, we don't have the Truth of Meditation, we have a technique, a practice, we have someone doing something-someone who, through effort, is dedicating oneself, for example, to silencing thoughts, to quieting the mind. This effort and this separation between the restless mind and the one who wants to quiet down is duality. This effort in this separation between these movements, which are the internal movements of this consciousness, which is the consciousness of the "I"-I'm referring to this present movement of thought-and someone trying to silence it, this effort is in this principle of duality. This is not real Meditation!

Here on this channel, we have several videos showing you the Truth about real Meditation, the Truth of Meditation. When people consider Meditation as a practice, they don't comprehend that the Truth of Meditation is Meditation in practice, not the practice of meditation; there's a difference! Meditation in practice is the awareness of Being, moment by moment. When we learn to observe our reactions, when we learn to go beyond these reactions, when we transcend this movement of the "I," of the ego, this transcendence is the revelation of this Natural State of Being-that is Meditation in practice. It's not a practice that will lead you to Meditation, it's the awareness of Meditation, which in a practical way reveals That which is present here, right now, as the Truth about you, as the Truth of Being.

Therefore, in these meetings, our purpose is to look at That which is present here, revealing itself moment by moment. Each meeting we have here is an invitation to look at the present moment, to listen to the present moment, to this revelation of the Reality of now. This is the Truth of Meditation, this is the Truth of Being. Another important aspect is that it is not about a result that is achieved, attained, or obtained. Any result that is achieved, that is obtained, will be lost. at some point it will disappear. Because the very effort and the very element dedicated to that effort, towards that result, the result and that element are inseparable.

Thus, this result, as an effort of this "I," is still a continuation of this "I." Therefore, the "I" remains present, this sense of ego remains present, and if it is present, confusion is present, suffering is present, illusion remains. Real contact with life is the presence of Meditation, and this is present when the "I" no longer exists, when there is no longer illusion. This is not a result that is achieved; this is the awareness of life revealing itself at this instant, at this moment. Therefore, when we touch upon the issue of Meditation here, we are pointing to something outside the known, to something outside the mind, outside the "I," outside results, outside any effort, intention, motive, or practice.

What is needed here is Attention to our reactions, and it requires no effort; it requires looking, listening effortlessly, to each and every moment here, to each and every instant here, whatever that is revealing itself here at the moment, at the instant-looking, listening is something that reveals the Truth. There is no such thing as the future or the past. This whole structure of the future and past is the structure of memory. Observe how simple it is: You have no future without the idea of ??the future, and you have no past without the memory of what has already been, of what has already happened. What has already been, what has already happened, here and now, is only memory. It is not the past, it is remembrance.

Therefore, there is no such thing as the past or the future. All of this requires investigation, deep and direct comprehension. This is the Awakening of Wisdom, the Awakening of a vision free from time, in this true Divine awareness, in this true awareness of God. This awareness is the Reality of Meditation.

GC: Master, regarding the topic of Meditation, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel: "Master, my mind gets trapped in worries about the future and regrets from the past. How can I meditate like this?"

MG: Gilson, linking Meditation to anything else is completely false. Meditation is not a technique or practice to rid yourself-as implied in the question-of the past or the future. We approach Meditation in a direct, simple, real, and true way when we investigate the nature of time. What is the Truth about time? What you call "past" or "future," as we've always presented to you in all these speeches, is something that thought engenders, establishes, constructs, and sustains. Because there is no such thing as the past, except for the presence of a memory, a recollection of something that occurred or something you heard or read about, but we are only dealing with thoughts, ideas, images, mental representations.

Therefore, what we call the "past" is memory, it is recollection arising here, at this instant. At this instant there is no past; at this instant what we have is life as it is, as it happens, and part of what happens is happening now as a memory. So, what you call the "past" is the memory of what has already been, and what you call the "future" is the imagination of what will be. But notice, what will be is not real now, and what happened is not real now. Therefore, there is no such thing as the past or the future.

So, what we have here is not yet the present. When you use the word, the expression "present," what exactly are you talking about? By the time you've just used the expression "present," it's already gone. Now it's just a memory. Then, when we use the "present" between the past and the future, we are dealing with an illusion, an abstraction, a model of construct from thought to maintain the continuity of an illusion, which is the illusion of someone who is the person. This sense of person came from the past, is going to the future, and passing through the present. There is no such thing as the past, the present, and the future; just as there is no such thing as someone present being the person.

There is no person; what we have at this moment is life revealing itself, and the revelation of life at this moment is the presence of Meditation. It is not Meditation for someone, it is Meditation when the person does not exist, when the past, present, and future do not exist. Thus, the idea of ??getting rid of the past or the future to meditate is an illusion! It is the comprehension that there is no past, that there is no future, that there is no present; it is the vision of the moment revealing itself, without the idea of ??time, the Presence of Being. The thing is that we are constantly, Gilson, in the idea of ??becoming, of achieving, of obtaining things in the future. Or, if I am in discomfort here and now, the idea is to get rid of it, of this thing, in the future.

Therefore, winning or losing, obtaining or getting rid of, is something for the future, but only in the imagination of thought, because there is no such thing as the future. It is the comprehension of the moment, of what is revealed here and now, the liberation from time. This time is the time that thought has established, that thought has been sustaining, and placing a present identity moving within it, between what was and what will be. Real life is free from time because it is free from the "I," free from the ego.

Therefore, there is nothing more important in life than the comprehension of Meditation, and the comprehension of Meditation naturally flourishes when there is no longer illusion, when there is no longer this idea, this thought, this motive that excites this sense of "I" for the future, that puts this idea of ??a thinker having ideas, having memories, having imaginations. If this is eliminated, Divine awareness reveals itself. This Divine awareness is the presence of Meditation. Part of this awareness consists of comprehending the Truth about yourself. To know oneself is to approach this moment in a real way.

Thus, we have the elimination of illusion, the elimination of this illusory center, this false center that is the person, that is the ego.

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel, who made the following comment: "Master, what is the first step to Meditation?"

MG: Gilson, once again we come across a misconception: it's the idea of ??someone wanting to meditate, it's the idea of ??a person trying to learn to meditate. Learning to Meditate involves something different; it doesn't involve steps to Meditation-that would imply the presence of someone for the practice, someone using a system, a method. Learning Meditation means embracing the Truth of investigating the nature of the "I." It's like learning about ourselves, it's like learning about Self-awareness. It's not someone exercising this learning, it's the investigation of the nature of this someone, of this "I," that constitutes the real learning.

Therefore, learning about Self-awareness is the foundation for learning Meditation. Learning about Self-awareness is becoming aware of untruth, the untruth of the person, the untruth of the "I," or this truth about the "I," this truth about the person. The truth about the person, the truth about the "I," is that the "I" does not exist, this person does not exist, and you become aware of this here and now, when you learn to look at your reactions without interfering with them. When you are involved with thoughts, seeing yourself as someone separate from those thoughts, being the author of thoughts, you are sustaining an old model of existence, a pattern of conditioning, of behavior, which is the idea of ??a thinker thinking.

When you are involved with a feeling, seeing yourself as someone in that feeling, the old way of feeling it is standardized within a conditioning, because that's how, as human beings, in this personal consciousness, in this consciousness of the "I," we are feeling, we are thinking, and we are acting. But we are investigating with you precisely this: this illusion! The illusion of a separation between the one who feels and the feeling, between the one who thinks and thought, between the one who takes action and action. Therefore, the real way to learn Meditation, to learn Self-awareness, consists in looking at our reactions, becoming aware of them without getting involved with them.

This way we discard this separation, this illusion between the "I" and the "non-I," between the thinker and thought, between this element that sees itself separate from feeling and the feeling itself, between this element that sees itself as the author of actions and actions happening. Therefore, the Beauty of an encounter with Truth lies in the revelation of Meditation, and Meditation flourishes when there is comprehension in this learning about ourselves. Thus, there is no separation between Meditation and Self-awareness, between Self-awareness and this learning Meditation, between this learning at every instant. Looking at this moment reveals this learning.

In life, we have the beautiful and extraordinary opportunity for a real encounter with the moment, without the "I," without the ego, without the person. However, we know nothing about this, precisely because we know everything in order to be someone. Our lives have been constantly guided and established by this idea-the idea of ??the "I," the idea of ??being someone, in this knowing. We are living within the known, within knowledge, within all the records we keep within ourselves, which are memory, the past, recollection, the remembrance. Yes, because that is what we call the past: recollection, memory, remembrance. Can we discard this for this real encounter with the moment?

So, yes, we encounter the revelation of Meditation. Then, yes, we face Bliss, Happiness, Love, the Freedom of Being. This is the Divine Presence, this is the presence of God. It is not someone present, but the Reality of God present; it is not someone having an encounter with God, it is the Reality of God revealing itself at this moment. It is the presence of God revealing itself when there is no longer the "I." That's what we are here with you, deepening in these encounters.

GC: Thank you, Master, our time is up. Thank you for another videocast. And, for those of you who watched the videocast to the end and truly wish to learn this Art of Meditation, we invite you to participate in the intensive weekend meetings that Master Gualberto offers. In these meetings, something much deeper happens than in these videos here on YouTube. First, because the Master answers our questions live, and second, and much more impactful, is that, because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, he shares a field of Presence around him, a field of Energy, Power, and Grace. And, in these meetings, we end up taking a ride in the Master's field of Presence. And, taking a ride with the Master, without any practice, without any technique, we enter this State of Meditation, quiet our minds, and can have a real comprehension of the subjects discussed here on the channel. So, the invitation is extended: In the first pinned comment, there is a WhatsApp link to participate in these meetings. Also, please like the video, subscribe to the channel, and Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.
