The way I see it, the main element here, for all of us, must necessarily be a heart-to-heart encounter, which requires the presence of a possible communion. In general, we do not know how to have this level of approaching when interacting with people.
I want to explore some issues with you here. One of these issues also involves this issue of communion. Note that your contact with people is not free contact, but it is a contact, in general, committed to ideas, committed to beliefs, to concepts that you have about him or her, or about what is happening in the world or in life. And in this contact, in this relationship with him or her, there is always a divergence of ideas, opinions, and conclusions. So, we are very inclined to live like that.
Here with you I want to touch on the beauty of this encounter with new learning, which is learning about ourselves. There is nothing more important in life than the awareness of life itself. This awareness requires learning about Self– awareness, because only when you know yourself, understand yourself, can you truly situate yourself in life within an encounter with the world around you in this state of communion.
Communion is the fundamental element in Peace, Freedom, cooperation, and the presence of Love. If there is the Truth of Love present, there is communion. In this communion, there is the presence of compassion, of cooperation. Here with you we are working on this truth of understanding who we are. So, learning about ourselves is fundamental.
In general, our contact with the world around us, the contact with him or her, is the contact within this old affirmation of separation. If there is this separation, there is no such encounter; if there is no such encounter, there is no communion. The world is in conflict, people are unhappy and living within a conflictual relationship with each other. And why does this happen? Because we are, internally, distant from each other, and all this attempt to unite people has not worked, all this talk about loving our neighbor or living in harmony with him or her has not worked.
We have many problems in life and they are countless, but they have a common basis, and I want to address this here with you. What is the common basis of all these problems that we have, including in our relationships, in the lack of this communion and, therefore, this cooperation, this compassion, this intelligent freedom to deal with the other? Who is it that has sustained all of this? Ignorance, the illusion about ourselves, about how we function.
So, I want to talk to you here about the end of fear. You see, I have come here with you countless times touching on this issue of fear, but our emphasis here is different from the emphasis that people want to get involved or want to have regarding this issue of fear: they want to get rid of fear. Here, we are becoming aware of what the end of fear means. It is not about someone getting rid of fear, it is about freedom from fear occurring with the end of fear. It is not about someone getting rid of fear, but it is the vision of what fear means, what fear represents. It is not fear for someone, but what someone, in fear, means.
So, what is fear? How can we really see the end of fear? So, the question is: how to deal with fear? Note that we have different forms of fear. I don't know exactly which one you are interested in studying here, which fear you want to address or would like to see being discussed here, but whatever form of fear you would like to investigate, all forms of fear, the only difference between them is the objects or the way they are expressed. But fear itself is fear, there is only fear.
The different forms of fear, in the plural, are diverse in relation to people, situations, events and objects. This is the difference in the variation of fears, but fear is one. So, here, the question is: How to deal with fear? To have a direct approach to this subject, we must first ask what thought is. And why? Because thought is the element within you that, when present, speaks to you of fear. There is no fear without the possibility of thought.
If you are walking down a street and a car is coming towards you, at that moment you have no time to be afraid. You move away, you get out of the way. You are in a moment of danger, but it is a moment in which there is no interval between that possible accident and you. So, at that moment there is no room for fear, but rather for a movement of self-protection, something instinctive, of self-preservation. This fear or fright is not fear, it is an intelligent action of escape, of fleeing from that accident, that danger.
Human beings have suffered for millennia from various forms of fear, but it is fear where thought is present. For example, the fear of death. You can only be afraid of death if you have a thought about death, about the afterlife, about what can happen during death or at the moment of death, but it is thought that is producing this. Without thoughts about death, there is no fear of death.
You cannot be afraid of getting old without images of thoughts about old age, the fear of getting sick without images of thoughts about illness. You cannot be afraid of a person without the memory of them. Notice how simple and tremendously fascinating it is to understand that everything in us is linked to thought. Thought guides our lives as people, how we see ourselves, how we feel about ourselves.
So, our big problem is not how to deal with fear, but rather how to deal with thought, because thought is the basis of fear, it is the cause of fear, it is the sustenance of fear. It is the cause because it is the image, it is the cause because it is the factor without which there is no fear. So, here, we can learn how to deal with thought and, therefore, with fear.
Notice how fascinating this clear understanding of all this is. It is not just about fear, it is about the pain of rejection. When do you feel rejected by someone? When you remember that person. The anger at someone. When do you feel angry at someone? When memory is there, creating a condition of suffering in fear, anger, rejection…
Thought element guides our psychological condition of existence, so we have to investigate the nature of thought, the structure of thought and how to remain without it. Yes, that's right: how to remain without thought. Is there a possibility, in life, of life happening, but in such a way that a response to that moment is possible, but not based on this psychological condition that we know, which is of life guided by thought?
So, this approach we have here, this way we have of approaching all of this is something that gives you the basis for a free, happy, peaceful and, therefore, harmonious life, with a real possibility of communion with others, with life, with what happens, without fear, without this feeling of rejection, without this feeling of anger. Here, we use three examples, but there are countless, all linked to the presence of thought in each one of us.
So, what is this learning about Self-awareness? It is verifying how you function, how thought creates representations within you of how life should be, or could be, or should have been. Everything here that we present to you involves the importance of a life without suffering, free, peaceful, happy, and this requires the absence of the ego, the absence of the “I.”
So, how to deal with fear? Discovering how to dispense with the movement of memory, because, you see, at this moment, there is no need for any mental image about the future. The mental image of the future is the continuation of the present movement of unconsciousness with regard to life as it happens at this moment. Therefore, all these present forms of suffering, disorder, confusion and problems, all these are things arising within each of us and being sustained by this non-observation of our reactions.
Looking at a thought and allowing it to complete itself… Look, listen to this: allowing it to complete itself, we don’t do that. We don’t do it because when a thought arises, you immediately become confused with thought, because behind this movement of becoming confused with thought there is the belief that this thought is real when it appears. It is not real, it is just a representation that is coming from the past, from a memory that has not been completed. So, this memory comes, this thought arises and when it arises, immediately, you immediately identify with thought. At that moment, you lose yourself by being the observer separate from thought, the thinker in thought.
So, the observer is like this element that is observing thought as someone separate from it. This thinker is like the element that is separating itself from thought, but it is this element that is producing thought. So, when the thinker is present, the observer is present, the observer observing thought as an element separate from it and the thinker as an element that is producing this thought. So, this is real, it is very real.
This movement that we have just described to you is nothing other than the movement of the ego, of this sense of being a person that you have, that you carry. What are we proposing to you here? Observe, just observe this movement, be aware of it when it arises. Becoming aware of it is to not separate yourself from it to be the observer, to be the thinker – to be the thinker when thought arises, the observer when the image arises, the one who feels when the feeling arises. So, at this moment, you are in this learning about yourself.
So, what is learning this Self-awareness? It is discovering how to bring this Attention to this moment to be aware of your reactions, without getting confused with them. So, when a thought arises of fear, it is seen, of sadness, it is seen, of worry, it is seen, but it is seen without this observer, it is seen without this thinker.
Here we have just shown you how to approach this Self-awareness. This is what gives you the basis for Meditation. And what is this Meditation? It is allowing what is present to present itself without an element that is involved with it, and what is present is nothing other than something that came from the past in this format of image, thought, memory, remembrance.
You may ask: “But how is this issue of Meditation, as you place it?” Meditation is this, it is being aware of your reactions, without getting involved with them, in that moment; allowing it to show itself, present itself, be seen and complete itself. Because when a thought arises, it is only an apparition that can be seen without the observer, and this belief that someone, who is the thinker, is producing that, is not real.
There is no thinker producing thoughts, just as there is no observer to see the image that emerges. This image is something that comes from the past, and this thought is something that comes from the past; this past is only the record of the memory within you. There is no one producing it, there is no thinker producing it, there is no observer producing it.
Notice the beauty of following this. Allowing this to emerge and not find continuity, which is this “I,” this ego, means to not feed it anymore in this observer, in this thinker, in this element also involved in feeling. All of this is part of this sense of “I,” of this element that separates itself. Thus, we are nullifying this sense of “I.” So, at this moment, the awareness of the Truth of your own Being is taking place. This is the end of fear, this is the end of suffering, this is the end of the “I,” this is the end of the ego.
So, when there is an approach to the Truth of Meditation, there is the Revelation of the Reality of your Being. So, this is the subject that we are working on here with you on this channel and in these online meetings on the weekends. On Saturday and Sunday, we are together, deepening this with you. Here in the video description, you have our WhatsApp link to participate in these online meetings on the weekends.
