Advaita Zen | What is thought? | How to deal with anxiety and depression? | What is thinking?

Is it possible to have a life free from problems, complications, disturbances, internal and external disorders? See, life as we know it, as we are living or experiencing it, is a life that has as its principle a model learned.

It is important here, in this meeting, to have a different perspective on everything that is happening to us. In general, we are conformed to or adjusted to this old model of human life, in this cultural and social context, and everything that we have just mentioned is present in it, and we are living our lives.

Is there another way of living? Is there another way of feeling and thinking? Until there is a new way of thinking and feeling, the old way of acting, of acting in the world, in life, will continue; it is something that will remain exactly the same. But if we make a change or undergo a transformation at this level, will we, or not, have the possibility of a new way of feeling, of thinking and, therefore, a quality of life different from the one we have today?

You may ask: “But how does this become possible?” By having an encounter with Truth, with the Truth of what we are, learning what it is to look at what we are. Thus, we can have direct contact with this form of adjustment that we have socially and culturally. Only then will we be able to break with this condition.

The truth is that we are psychologically adjusted to this society. And this society lives within this condition, which is the condition of disorder, which is the condition of confusion, ambition, envy, possession of things, attachment to things, attachment to situations, attachment to pleasure, attachment to desires, attachment to people.

Our psychological condition of adjustment to this cultural, humanist model is sustaining this type of life that we have, and all this happens because we do not realize the Divine Truth. We do not have a true approach to God.

The word God, to us, represents a set of beliefs, precepts, ordinances, commandments, the imposition of ideas of what should or should not be done. The word God, for us, involves rituals, ceremonies, external practices of this so-called kindness, charity and all kinds of things.

Here, when we use this word, the word God, we are pointing to something that thought does not know and, therefore, to something that is beyond or outside everything that thought has engendered, constructed, fabricated, imagined around this expression.

Here, the Truth of your Being is the Truth of God. But this Truth of this Being that you are in your Essential Nature is Something unknown. It is important to say this here as well. Divine Reality will never be known. Everything that can be known, can be described, named and exemplified by thought, and everything that is part of thought is part of that which an experience has given the name, named. Notice that thought is just that.

When we go through an experience, the remembrance of that experience is stored knowledge, and to talk about that knowledge, words are necessary. These words are names that we are giving to knowledge, to experience. We communicate knowledge through names, words, concepts.

So, notice how interesting this is. The word is just a concept, it is a name, because it is just a thought about certain knowledge or experience that we have gone through, an experience that we have acquired. If it is an experience that we have acquired, if it is something that we have already been through, this is part of what is known. So, what is known is part of thought. Follow this carefully here.

So, the expression “God” is a word, it is a name, but we do not know what it actually represents, what it means. You have images about that, you have an idea about that. But what is this idea, what is this image? It is a thought, it is something within the known, it is based on your past experiences. So are our beliefs.

So, notice, our life, this human life that is based on thought, is based on models of everything that is known, which are experiences, knowledge and thought. So, here, we are with you investigating the Truth, not the idea, thought, knowledge, imagination or belief about God.

We are here getting closer to this Divine Truth. This Divine Truth, we are putting it here for you in a very clear way, is the Truth of your Being, and It is not part of what is known; therefore, it is not part of thought.

What is the beauty of this encounter with the Awakening of Consciousness, with Spiritual Enlightenment? It is the Real awareness of the Truth of God. And it seems to me that now it is clear: here the expression God, as we use it here on the channel, is synonymous with something that is the Unknown, something that is not part of thought, of concepts, it is not something passive for belief or disbelief.

Divine Reality, the Presence of this Reality, when It assumes its space, here and now, in your mind and in your heart, this mind and this heart are of another order, it is no longer the mind as we know it, it is no longer the heart as we know it. So, what is the meaning of the truly Religious Life, which is the awareness of God? You see, it is not knowledge. Everything that is known is part of what can be recognized and, therefore, can be part of knowledge.

This awareness of God is not knowledge in this sense; it is the vision of Reality. This vision of Reality is the awareness of God, and this awareness of God is that which is present when we understand how we function.

What is this that is processed within each one of us that we have never investigated carefully? I refer to this question of thought. You see, let us not underestimate this question, because it is very important. What is thought and what is thinking? Few of us have already stopped to reflect on this subject, and even the answers we have on this subject are theoretical.

This chemical movement in the brain, this way the brain acts or works by producing images, which are these thoughts: each and every form of explanation we have about this, is something that does not resolve that, it is something theoretical. “Ah, they are chemical reactions in the brain. Ah, they are images based on nervous stimuli.” See, none of this is what interests us here on the channel.

Let's put it in a simple and much more direct way: what is thought? Thought is experience, it is memory, it is acquired knowledge, which is present in you and it is something that comes – because it is knowledge, it is an experience, it is something that you keep – from the past. So, see, that's it basically. This is the simplest aspect, but it is still theoretical.

You need to get closer and observe your reactions to have an understanding of how you function, because without a direct understanding of your reactions, you cannot free yourself from this psychological condition of psychological adjustment common to everyone.

This psychological adjustment is a form of mental conditioning, a psychic conditioning that we bring with us and that we are constantly expressing in our relationships. And since life consists of relationships and actions taking place in these relationships, whether with people, situations, objects or relationships with ourselves, unless we understand this, we will always be in this condition of disorder, confusion and suffering.

The Awakening of the Divine Nature, of your Real Nature, is the awareness of the Truth of God, it is the awareness of the Unknown. So, what is the truth about this matter? What is thought? Becoming aware of this is breaking with this pattern of conditioned thought, adjusted to this psychic model of humanity that we know.

So, what is thinking? We don't know anything about it, unless we get closer to ourselves for observation. Here on the channel, we are showing you how to have this observation, how to assume this awareness of the Reality of God, what it means to break with this pattern of thought, to break with this model of thinking, to something completely new, different from all of this.

So, here we are discovering that, when there is this awareness of God, there is no longer this complication. People want a quick, magic formula to deal with anxiety, depression, fear.

So, how to deal with anxiety and depression? How to deal with fear? They do not understand that they need to discover a new quality of feeling and thinking, for a new way of acting, of acting in the world to really happen.

Notice, this is something that becomes possible – pay attention to listen to this, put your heart into approaching what we are saying here – when you Realize the Truth about Yourself; it is when you are beyond this so-called person as society sees you, as you see yourself.

The Reality of this Being is the Reality of God. This is the only Reality present in life. No longer in this particular life, guided by this old model of psychological adjustment, as we know it. Real Life is the Truth of Non-duality.

So, here the subject of Zen or the vision of the great religions of the world, all point to this Reality. This is present in Zen, this is present in the vision of the real message of Christ, of Buddha, of Ramana Maharshi. I refer to the Truth of Non-separation, that the only Reality present here is Non-duality, which is Advaita.

Here we are together investigating, addressing, working with you on all these issues, delving deeper into all of this for this real vision of God, for this real vision of the true Divine Life.

In these meetings that take place here, on Saturday and Sunday, we are together delving deeper into this subject with you. Here in the video description, you have our WhatsApp link to participate in these online meetings on the weekends, where we can delve deeper into this together.

In addition, we have in-person meetings and also retreats. If what you just heard is something that makes any sense to you, that touches you on some level, here is an invitation. Leave your “like” here, subscribe to the channel and leave here in the comments: “Yes, that makes sense.” Ok? And we'll see you. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon!
