Advaita Vedanta. Divine Reality. The Awakening of Consciousness. True Meditation. Self-Awareness.

In these meetings, we are investigating the Truth about who we are. This brings us closer to the Divine Reality, the Reality of God. The common idea is that God is somewhere, if He is not in a certain geographical place, which we call heaven, He is at least somewhere in time, called the future. So, for us, God is something that is in time. He is either to be found tomorrow or years from now. What I am saying may seem strange, but this is basically the idea of the seeker.

Here I want to talk to you about the end of the quest. If the purpose is to verify the Truth of God, Realize God, the Awakening of Consciousness, or Spiritual Enlightenment, it is essential that the search end. It is when the search ends that something new emerges. This something new is the presence of direct work that does not require time. Thus, we are facing a direct work that dispenses with time and this whole notion of space. The idea of somewhere is still the idea of a distance between “I” and this place where God is. So, there is a distance between this “I who am,” which I believe I am, and God. So, we have this misconception. If God is somewhere, there is a distance between “I” and Him, if God is somewhere, it also requires time to reach Him, because between “me” and Him there is a distance and that is time.

Our notion about realizing Divine Reality is something we take for in the sense of “something to be achieved in time and space.” In our meetings here, I want to show you that the end of the search is possible. It is when the search is over that a Real Work on yourself starts.

As long as you keep on this search, you will always be acquiring more knowledge, more information, trying to live more experiences. In fact, the Reality of God is not within knowledge, it is not within an experience. Experience is something in time that you went through and you can tell me about. Every experience can be talked about and has always happened before. The experience is something we can talk about. Every experience is something that occurs in time and we can report on it, we keep it in memory and then we make a description of it. Divine Truth is not in time, so any and all experience that you have had or that you may have, will still be part of what can be reported and therefore are part of time, therefore not yet the Reality of God.

So, it’s not an experience, it’s not knowledge either. The problem with the seeker is that he goes on studying, he goes on learning, he goes on acquiring information, reading all the books, going through different experiences, and he is still in the field of the “I,” which is the field of the known, which is the field of time – here I am referring to what I have been calling, on this channel, psychological time, which is time, in fact, constructed by thought.

What we call time is a construct of thought itself. And what is thought? Thought is memory; remembrance, memory, experience, all this is part of what is known, which can be portrayed, explained, told, said to others from thought, and this is all part of time, of the psychological time, which is the “I” time. So, we keep circling around this illusory identity when we are living internally, psychologically, trapped in this whole pattern of thoughts, which are experiences, knowledge, memories, remembrances, and all that is what we have learned.

In the “I,” in the ego, we are a collection of memories, of remembrances; memories acquired from books, from other people’s speeches, memories acquired through experiences, which were experiences and which are now part of the memory, and all of this is part of time, it is part of the psychological time, it is part of the known, and all this is happening in this space of the known.

Here, by coming closer to the Truth of God, we are going beyond the known and, therefore, beyond this space between “I and God,” this space between “I and the other,” between “I and the world,” between “I and life.” Why does this space end? Why is there no truth in this space? Because that space is still a construct of the mind. The mind built the illusion of this space between “I and the world,” “I and the other,” “I and life,” “I and God.”

What the mind built is within this principle of separation, of duality – “I,” the subject, and the experience. Experience is the experience of God, experience is the experience in the relationship with the other, in the relationship with people, with places, with things around me. What is this “me”? It is the illusion of a present identity. What is this “other”? So, we have the subject, which is the “me,” and we have the “other,” ”which is the object; between this “me,” which is the “I,” the subject, and this “other,” which can be God, a person, or an experience, is the object.

Notice that we are facing an illusion, an imagination created by thought itself. So, thought – and here thought is this movement of the mind itself – is creating this duality, this separation. This sense of separation, this sense, which is the sense of a present “I” within the experience of that space, is something created by thought; and this time is also something created by thought. “I am this today, yesterday I was that and tomorrow I will be something else": this is within the principle of thought, which is the principle of illusion of the psychological time. All this is part of a creation of the mind itself.

The only present Reality is not in time or space, it is the Reality of God. So, as long as this movement of achieving, of accomplishing, of getting there, is present, we will be within an illusion. There is no space and therefore there is nowhere to reach. There is no time and therefore there is nothing that will come.

What I want to say clearly is that God will not come. That which is the Divine Reality – which is Indescribable, which is Nameless – is outside of time and therefore That is here and now, this Reality. This is the present Reality of God. It cannot be in time; if He is the only Reality, He is That which is here and now. However, That is here and now and found to be the only Reality when the sense of duality is no longer present.

Here we are working with you on the beauty of Non-duality. Non-duality, Advaita is a subject shared with you on the channel. Everything we are dealing with here on the channel is about this present Reality, without anything else parallel to It. We are dealing with the Reality of Being, which is the Reality of God, which is the Truth of your Being. The only Reality present in all Existence is the Truth of Advaita, of non-separation, of Non-duality. The subject here is that which in Vedanta, in Advaita Vedanta, has been dealt by Sages for millennia, the Truth that the only present Reality is the Reality of God. So, this sense of “I” present in this search, in this search for something is an illusion, it is a fiction, it is a fantasy, it is not real, it has no reality.

Reality is That which Is here and now, which is beyond body, mind and world, and therefore beyond space and time. So, a Real approach of this type of encounter here, is only Real when you directly experience what you're hearing, and you experience it now, not later, or else we'll be stuck in that old situation that many are stuck in, which is the situation of continuing to acquire information and knowledge to Realize the Truth of God at some point in the future, then this search does not end. Here we are dealing with the end of this search, the end of this search, the beginning of something entirely new, which is this encounter with oneself, in this studying yourself, in this Self-Awareness approach, in this look at all this internal movement that occurs here and now, in this body-mind.

Studying yourself is not studying books, it is not acquiring words, it is not acquiring information, it is not seeking a mystical, so-called “spiritual” experience. Tt is actually the contact with the direct and simple observation of that movement, which is the movement of the “I.” When you observe yourself, you can see in yourself everything that you are actually hiding from yourself, without wanting to look at it, in fact, without any idea or notion of the need to look at it. Looking at thoughts, looking at feelings, looking at emotions, looking at what is shown here, without putting an identity, which is the “I” to give identity to it, identifying with it or rejecting it, agreeing with it or disagreeing with that.

When a thought arises, you look; when a feeling arises, you look. You don't disagree with the thought, you don't disagree with the feeling, you don't disagree with the emotion, you don't disagree with the sensation, you, also, don't agree with the sensation. You approach that look and look at this whole movement of thought, feeling, emotion, and sensation, without agreeing, without disagreeing, without rejecting and, also, without clinging to it. This look without the “I” is a look without the observer, who is the one who judges, who is the one who rejects or accepts.

This is studying yourself, this is, in practice, getting closer to working on yourself, leaving all theories, all beliefs, all concepts, everything that has been learned over all these years, and all this illusion of the search for a so-called “divine” experience turns into a simple verification of what is happening here and now.

Then that sense of “I” disappears when the illusion of what is present here, which is this experience, which in reality is the result of the past – thinking is the result of the past, feeling is the result of the past, an emotion has a structure, behind it, of thought, and thought is past –, that “I”, that identity is not found to give authenticity to that experience – when there is this agreement or disagreement, this acceptance or rejection.

When that is seen, that sense of “I” dissolves, because that experience dissolves, it is when there is a contact with the Silence of the Real Presence, of the Real Divine Consciousness, which is your Being. This is Meditation, and here I mean True Meditation, real Meditation in a practical, experiential way, here and now, this contact with the Truth that you Are, without this element which is the illusion of an image within this experience, which is thought, feeling, emotion, and sensation.

When we don't put the sense of an “I” present in it, this illusion of the “I” falls apart, along with that experience completely loses importance, because there is no longer an identity present in that experience. This is something experiential, it’s something you discover in yourself, here and now. So, the Self-Awareness approach gives you Real insight into what I have called the Real Meditation practice.

We have, here on the channel, talked a lot about this. We have several playlists, two in particular, one talking about the issue of Self-Awareness and the other talking about True Meditation. In addition, we show in a practical, experiential way, how to have an approach of True Meditation in practice, a Real approach to yourself. Here I want to tell you that the most important thing is the end of this search, and the end of this search is the end of knowledge.

It is not more knowledge, nor is it more experience that you need, but the realization that the illusion of an identity is no longer necessary, here and now, in your life. Thus, you will have an approach to the abandonment of this illusion and all these “I” inclinations.

The beauty of all this is that you are faced with an end to confusion, an end to disorder. That psychological confusion and that psychological disorder, that’s what every form of psychological suffering is based on. So, this is the end of the “I” illusion, and with the end of the “I” illusion, we have the end of suffering, anxiety, fear, anguish, depression, hurt, resentment, hatred, all this mental confusion, this internal chatter, all these uncontrolled thoughts, of everything that has represented this psychological unhappiness; all this disappears before the Truth of the realization of That which is you.

Our work here together is to become aware of That which we are and assume It in this lifetime. Therefore, this is the subject here with you within our channel. If this is something that makes sense to you, I want to invite you to “like” and subscribe to the channel. I want to remind you: we have online meetings, face-to-face meetings and also retreats where we are working with you. OK?

If this is something that makes sense to you, we will see you soon. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon.

Existential void. Unhappiness in psychological condition. Psychological escapes. Mental insanity

What we have been saying to you here on the channel is that what we call pleasure in life carries, in a very close, very intimate way, this matter of pain, and we need to understand this, because our psychological life, this life of the ego, this life of the “I” – and this is the subject that we are investigating here with you – is very much based on this pursuit or search for pleasure. What we call “life” is actually a very complicated psychological way of living, because one thing we don't realize is that in this so-called “pleasure” there is something very close, which is this pain. People approach asking questions about how to get rid of suffering: “How to get rid of suffering? How to get rid of fear?” This is very common: “How to get rid of fear? How to get rid of suffering?” Suffering and fear are pain.

We have been raised, since childhood, on a quest or a search and very strong fixations on some form of fulfillment and pleasure. So, we are always looking for pleasure and escaping pain. We don't want fear, we don't want anxiety, we don't want depression – which are states of unhappiness, which are states of psychological pain – but we do want pleasure. So, our childhood conditioning was always to sustain an identity in this search for something that fulfills us psychologically. This search for psychological fulfillment in pleasure is, in fact, an escape from pain that we already carry within us and are not aware of, we are not conscious.

So, I want to talk to you here today about the existential void. We are not aware of this emptiness, the pain of existential void, so this training that we have had since childhood is exactly to escape this pain. The human being carries an existential pain within him, an existential void, as if it was the absence of something. And what we have as a model since childhood was people around us hiding this pain from themselves, and the path they followed, we are following; the training they went through, we are also going through, and we continue to sustain this; and this training is the constant search for pleasure and this search for this escape from this pain.

If we look at ourselves, how we are living our lives, this way of life, this way of living, we will clearly see how many fears we have. We are afraid of getting old, we are afraid of disease, we are afraid of accidents, we are afraid of the past, we are afraid of the future, we are afraid of getting old, we are afraid of parents, we are afraid of husbands, we are afraid of wives, we are afraid of children, we are afraid of the boss. We are afraid that something we did yesterday, in the past, will be discovered and we will suffer from it. So, we have countless fears. Note that the psychological nature of the “I,” of the mind, of this ego, of this “person” – because that is the ego, the “I,” the “person,” the sense of “someone” that you believe yourself to be – is that, carries many fears, and to escape these fears we are always bringing something into our lives that fills us, even if it is momentarily, provisionally, temporarily with some kind of pleasure.

So, this pleasure seems to gratify us, it seems to present us with peace, with joy, and we call this “peace” and “joy” “happiness.” People often say, “Happiness is a momentary thing” – that is their experience. Yes, the happiness of the “I,” which we confuse with pleasure and temporary gratification, with accomplishments, with fulfillments, we call that “happiness,” so “happiness” is something temporary.

Our psychological structure – listen to this – our mental structure is such that we easily settle into a pattern, a model, a way of feeling and thinking, and over time we get used to it and accept it as something very natural, so it turns out that we are neither aware or conscious of these fears because the way we take a life linked to this pursuit of pleasure. This is a cover over this condition of suffering caused by fear. We are not aware of the present fear, because we are, psychologically, so used to running away from looking at what is happening here and now and seeing it. We are so used to running away to some kind of temporary fulfillment of pleasure in something, in some level of satisfaction, that we call “happiness,” that we are not aware of the unhappiness present in this psychological condition of being “somebody,” of living in the ego, of living in this illusory identity.

So, another thing with regard to not confronting, not facing the existential void – which is the cause of pain, which is what is behind all these forms of present fears, present anxiety, apprehensions –, one of the typical ways of sustaining ourselves for thirty, forty, fifty, eighty years of life in this way, in this way, is because we are specialists, specialized in running away, we have different forms of psychological escapes. We have an arsenal of psychological escape resources, the human being lives in this escape from himself, in this confrontation with himself, with that “I.”

All the ego does is find in satisfactions, pleasures, and fulfillment a temporary relief from the pain it brings. So, the various psychological escapes that human beings have – human beings are fleeing to all kinds of fulfillment, temporary satisfaction –, some of them are destroying the organism itself, this body-mind, as in the case of the use of drugs and several other harmful practices to this body, to this mechanism, to this organism. This is something that is sustaining the illusion of this “I,” this illusory identity and accelerating this condition of the body to the grave.

So, there is no recognition of the Truth about who we are, because we are always running away from this existential void, this existential pain. In the ego we are always involved with something that makes us forget this need to look at ourselves, to observe ourselves, to become aware of what is happening here and now. Thus, this psychological condition is one of great neurosis, it is of great and profound dissatisfaction, so the state of mental insanity is present. There is a normality, which we call “naturalness,” to this insanity. This condition of insanity, we take it for something very natural, all this behavior in the ego for us is very natural.

When we go through some pain or some strong frustration, we soon replace what gave us frustration and pain for something else. When we go through a certain situation of frustration and existential pain, we soon put something in its place, so we feel a certain relief, a certain “peace,” a certain temporary “happiness” and, thus, we hide this pain from ourselves – we never clearly observe it, we never look at it. Having an approach of the Truth about who you are, here and now, the Reality of your Being when faced with the existential void, this existential pain, this sense of an “I” present within this experience of feeling and thinking, abandoning the illusion of a present identity, this is the end of fear, this is the end of this existential pain, this is the end of the “I,” this is the end of the ego, this is the end of the illusion of the sense of an identity present in this search for fulfillment and pleasure, sustaining pain, sustaining fear.

So, this psychological condition of existence and life without the understanding of the Truth about who we are is what is sustaining this internal condition that we are not aware of, we are not aware of because we don't look at it. And what is the reason for this pain? What is the reason for the existential void? Why do human beings feel that something is missing in their lives? As much as one may accomplish externally, having a good marriage, children, family, businesses, a successful entrepreneur, a well-recognized person publicly, perhaps with a certain degree of extraordinary public acceptance, as happens with those who are famous, however, there is this emptiness, there is this pain, there is this constant search for fulfillment in the external world, in the material world. This search to definitively drown this dissatisfaction that is born exactly from this pain – this pain is the “I,” the ego. And what is the reason for this? Why is this pain present? Simply because there is nothing real about the life of the ego, the life of the “I,” it is an illusory life, sustained by an illusion. The only Reality in Existence, in all Manifestation, is the Reality of God.

As long as you're seeing yourself as a person, seeing yourself as “someone” living inside the body, having to run your affairs and sustain your personal life, having control of everything, naturally scared of everything, within that sense of an individual identity – here I mean this illusion of individuality – as long as this is held, this sense of “I” is there. And here the illusion is what is guiding your life at that moment, the illusion of this separation between you and God. In India, they call it Dvaita; Dvaita is that condition of illusion, Dvaita means the “illusion of duality.” The condition, in the illusion of the ego identity, of this sense of an “I” separate from God, is Dvaita, the duality, the sense of “someone” separate from God, “someone” separate from Life, “someone” separate from Existence controlling, resolving, deciding, getting rid of, achieving, and struggling. As long as that remains, suffering remains. The ego sense is dissatisfaction, the ego sense is suffering, the ego sense is the illusion of an identity separate from Life, separate from the Whole, separate from God. This explains this existential void, this existential pain. This explains all the suffering present in this condition of egoic identity, of separate identity; explains all this insanity built by thought, giving this psychological formation to this “I.” And all this is the result of a millennial conditioning in humanity. What are we missing? Understanding the Truth about who we are.

The realization of the Truth of our Being, what some call the “Awakening of Consciousness” or “Spiritual Enlightenment.” If this is present, the sense of “I” is not. With all that this implies, this is the end of duality, that is Non-duality, Advaita, that is the presence of Truth that there is only One, without a second. There is only one Reality, that is the Reality of God. This is the end of fear, of pleasure as the ego knows, the end of this so-called “love” as the ego knows. Something entirely new is present, that Something new is the Reality of God, it is the Reality of your Divine Nature, of your Essential Nature, it is the Truth of your Being.

We are dedicated on this channel to exploring with you what a Real approach of this is, what it means to live this directly in this life here and now, for this you were born. There is nothing in this world that can replace that which is God’s Truth. So, it’s no longer this “my life,” “my story,” “my world,” “my business,” “my home,” “my family,” this whole notion of “I” and “mine” disappears when the Reality of your Being flourishes, the Reality of Consciousness, the Reality of this Divine Presence. So, that completeness, that sense of Divine Reality, is the end of that void, that’s the end of that pain, that’s the end of all that insanity, that’s the Beauty of Grace, that’s the Beauty of Truth.

This is our subject here on this channel. If this makes any sense to you, leave your “like” and subscribe to the channel. I want to invite you: we have online meetings, face-to-face meetings and also retreats where we are working on this with those who approach. If it makes sense, we have our WhatsApp group in the video description.

Let’s work this out together. OK?

Thanks for the meeting and see you soon!

Joel Goldsmith. Arrows on the Infinite Way. Divine Reality. Study of Scriptures. Master Gualberto.

Hey guys! We're here for another videocast! One more moment Master Gualberto was willing to be with us here on the channel for an interview, for a chat, where I bring some of Joel Goldsmith’s writings and also questions that you leave here on the channel for Master to answer.

Today, Master, I want to read an excerpt from the book “Arrows on the Infinite Way,” which is a compilation of Joel’s writings. And, in the excerpt, Joel states: “There were people who spent their whole lives thinking about God, who always lived with the Bible in their hand, however, they have always been astronomically far from God. What they had in mind was nothing more than words, and these are not and never will be God.” I would like you to comment a little, Master, on the study of the Word, on this permeating the mind with these words, with these studies.

MG: There is something here that we have to make clear to you: we are very inclined to be attached to words, symbols, and images. In fact, to every form of concept. The concepts, for us, are very meaningful. And here we fall into a serious mistake, which is to confuse these symbols, these images, these concepts, with the Reality itself, That to which these concepts, these images, are pointing.

So, the problem with us is that we are very verbal, very theoretical, and we have to be very clear about that. It seems to me, Gilson, that this is one of the most serious problems the seeker has, because within this search process, the intellect seeks to orient itself. And it seeks to guide itself, naturally, based on other people’s experiences, and these other people’s experiences are the experiences of books or scriptures. So, however beautiful, however profound, however significant this or that scripture may be, there we are still dealing with images, symbols, ideas, and concepts. The problem is that these concepts, when they are philosophical and mainly religious, become, within us, beliefs. And belief is an idea, it is something intellectual, it is an image concept, it is not an experience, it is not a direct experience.

So, the problem with this contact with the scriptures is that this contact is merely intellectual, merely verbal, and without a direct, real effect. That real, direct effect springs from an Understanding of that Reality. And this Understanding is only possible when there is an experience, and not when we are established on a level of beliefs, ideas, and verbal formulations. So, we tend to get stuck in these ideas, these concepts, these images, and these beliefs.

The result of this is that we go from one book to another, from one study to another, from one teacher to another, from one lecture to another, and nothing really happens, because we stay at the intellectual level. There is no direct experiencing, a direct living. The point is that this direct living, with regard to this Reality of Consciousness, – and here I mean the Real Consciousness of Being, which is the Truth of God – is not an experience.

Here, when I refer to a direct living, I am not even referring to an experience. An experience is something you go through. You go through the experience and you keep that too as more knowledge, so when it is uttered or described to the other who listens to it, it is just another belief, and for you it is something that has already gone, it is something that has no reality here and now.

So, this contact with the Divine Reality does not come through books and the study of the scriptures, the study of words, of ideas, it does not provide Freedom. Freedom is born from a direct experience with this Divine Reality, which is the Reality of God. The point is that This is not even an experience, let alone concepts within words, verbal formulations. So, these verbal formulations, these words actually become new beliefs and these beliefs are prisons. You profess a belief and that belief is a dogma, an intellectual concept. This is not a reality.

We use, for example, the expression Truth, Love, God, Divine Reality, Real Being, or Consciousness, or hypnotic state… We use these expressions without actually knowing what they represent. In other words, they are just beliefs. As beliefs, they are still part of the prison in which the ego is established, this false identity, which is the “I,” is established. That is, we are also dealing with an illusion. The “study of the scriptures,” said Ramana Maharshi, “before Realization is useless and after Realization it is completely unnecessary.” It is very strange for us to hear this, but coming from a wise man, we have to pay attention. And that’s exactly why: because we're dealing here only with beliefs, with new verbal formulations, with new theories, and it’s not possible to live on theories.

Theory, belief – I have been saying – is like a menu for the hungry. You do read the menu there, you find several dishes on the menu. Just a plate of those to solve your problem. Your problem is a lack of food, not a lack of theory about food. If it was a lack of theory about food, the matter of the menu would solve it. So, if reading the scriptures, studying books or listening to lectures, or learning something theoretically from someone, if that would solve it... but it doesn't!

So, when you look at yourself, you've already read dozens of books, you've studied the scriptures many, many times, and you live each day putting more information inside, theoretical, verbal, and intellectual. But this is not the direct experiencing beyond experience itself. Because, I repeat, this is not an experience, something that happened, it has to be something that is experiential here and now. That is the Reality of God, That is the direct experiencing of what is in theory. But when you are in this experience, you dispense with the theory, just as someone who already has the plate, eating, dispenses with the menu. That’s basically it, that’s just it.

GC: Master, funny thing is that the ego takes pleasure in reading, studying and ends up having an experience of pleasure, of comfort. And then there is a pleasant feeling, a good feeling, which ends up being an escape to postpone this intellectual issue, and having some experiences, which are fleeting. There’s an experience, there’s a good feeling, and then five minutes later there’s all the conflict, all the contradiction, all the anxiety again.

MG: We confuse, Gilson, this real contact with the Truth – which, in reality, is the contact with the Truth of God, but That is not outside, but within us... That is, we confuse the contact with this Reality, the direct work of this Realization of Reality that we carry within us – which necessarily involves self-investigation and, based on this self-investigation, [by] the annulment of this false “I,” which is the ego –, we confuse it with sensations.

So, the reading of religious books and so-called “spiritual” experiences, the emotion, the feeling, the sensation, the comfort, that touch that temporarily relieves us of all this ego oppression… We mistake it for the experience of God or with a contact that takes us away from this problem that we believe is outside of us. In reality, in this way we are showing, for ourselves, at this instant, a moment of only temporary relief from a pain that we bring. And, as a relief, we are faced with yet another escape in which our “I,” our “ego,” is hiding behind. In other words, in this matter of reading, studying, learning and this frantic search for relief, temporary fulfillment, relaxation, and comfort, we are really looking for a new way out.

The non-religious person escapes to other paths. He or she flees into drugs, flees into alcohol, into various forms of entertainment. Whatever the human being finds to amuse himself or herself when he or she is suffering, works for him or her as a means of escape. While the religious person... as they believe they are, in fact, looking for God – which, in fact, is just a projection of an idea about God, about what they believe to be God –, they ends up with this thing of a lot of reading, a lot of study, this pleasure, this feeling, this comfort, this fulfillment in hearing others talk about it. And when they get that, they feel really relieved, without all that heavy psychological pressure that the ego puts on them. But as soon as they move away from that experience – because it’s just an experience they're going through, which they'll remember later – they feel the same pressures again!

So, we end up spending many years in a mystical practice, in a religious practice, frequenting spaces where we sing, where we listen to the scriptures, where we read the scriptures a lot... but, in our life, in our day to day life, we continue as the same old people, with the same old egos, being the same old people who are violent, fearful, scared, aggressive, ambitious, and full of different problems within us, which we are not even aware of, because we never investigate, we never look directly into it. We don't look at it because we are only in theory, in this endless practice of studies and readings. It comforts, but it does not release.

GC: This point Master spoke about is very interesting, because it is unconscious! I see! I'm on this journey... Now with the Master I know that there is no longer any path, there is no trajectory anymore. It is really a work here and now. But looking at the past, in these last few years, I was on a journey and somehow the ego becomes more lustrous, becomes more spiritual and, to a certain extent, demonstrates peace, takes on a spiritual garment and, in that, it perpetuates itself. We are fooled! And the problems, as the Master was talking about, the inner contradictions are so deep that they are not seen.

So, I myself was unaware of this gigantic contradiction that existed, of this present “I,” of this “ego,” and it was not seen. And then I see that, with the Master, with this proximity to the Master, this falsehood that was already here, which is from this separation, from this separate identity, from this “Gilson,” started to be seen, this contradiction. And the escape... I escaped a lot, no longer to external things “of the world,” but I escaped to books or I escaped to meditation, to the meditation practice of sitting and meditating. And that gave a temporary relief, it was nice, there was a feeling, but what happens, Master, we even talked about it in a videocast some time ago: we get tired, we get tired of it. It’s reading, it’s studying and meditation, and it gets tiring... Until the moment Grace presents us with Grace in a body, a living Master, to really finish the journey, finish the search, and start this work.

MG: This is the point, which you touched on now, which is fundamental: as long as That does not come closer, as long as this Presence of Grace itself does not approach in an evident way, touching this condition – which is still a condition of self-hypnosis, of illusion, of mistaken identification with the “I,” but within a spiritual, religious, esoteric, mystical camouflage – while this Presence of Grace does not touch us, this search movement continues. This search movement is a movement of the ego-identity itself, of what it has projected as being its ideal to be found. When? At any moment! So, this search does not end, there is always this waiting, this hope, this quest, this search. And that search is a mere projection still of the “I,” still of the ego.

When we are religious or feel religious, which really is just an image we have of ourselves, religious people or God-oriented people – these are all self-images we have about who we are – when we feel that way, we apply ourselves devotedly to all this. And we do that, Gilson, really, unconsciously. It’s not that there’s evil in us, on the contrary! We are in search of the Good, in search of the Divine, in search of the Truth, but it is something that happens in that dream state, of unconsciousness, in that state of separate ego-identity. And the ego, listen carefully: the ego is not looking for the end of itself.

The ego is conservative, it lives in continuity. What is ego? It is the sense of a present “I” posing as the seeker of God, but it is still the ego itself. And it is not looking for its own end, it has no consciousness for that. It is the movement of unconsciousness itself, of the dream! So, our common state is the state of unconsciousness. When the Presence of Grace reveals itself, when It arrives, It arrives ending all of this, because all of this needs to be undone; because that is what keeps us trapped in the illusion of the sense of separation, that dream sense of being “someone” in time, space, separate from God, or, at most, having contact with God. And we call this contact communion: “Me in communion with God.” The Reality is that there is only God, and when God is present, there is no one left to be in communion with Him! There is only Him, and the sense of “I” is gone; once the sense of “I” is gone, all illusion and all need for theoretical, intellectual, verbal knowledge, symbols, images, beliefs...That’s it what happens, that’s how it happens.

GC: Master, I have a question from Jesus Amaral. He asks: “Is it thought that creates the thinker?”

MG: See, we have here in this question a very “key” point for this disintegration of the “I,” of the ego. The sense of “I” in you feels present within this experience. What experience? Any of them! When a thought arises, that sense of “I” says, “I am thinking.” When something is seen, it is only seen. It says, “I see.” When there is speech going on, it says, “I am speaking.” When a thought is going on inside your head, it says, “I'm thinking about it.” This “I” is actually a fallacy; it is an illusion. It is thought itself passing as the thinker.

This sense of the thinker in us is thought itself in expression, and vice versa: thought is the sense of “I.” When we have thoughts, we have the thinker. When we have no thoughts in our heads, is there any thinker left? The moment you have no thought... is the thinker possible without the thought? Look, we always have the two together, but, in reality, one is the reality of the other. It is the same with any experience. In a given experience, the illusion is someone having the experience. In fact, the experience is happening. After the experience has taken place, the thinker says, “I went through that.” That’s when another idea comes up, which is the experiencer’s idea.

So, you see, here we have a great key to the end of that sense of “I,” which is separate from Life – and, here, Life is what happens here and now, here we have the key: this observation of the movement of experience, be it thought, feeling, or emotion. When there is this verification of this movement, in this attention of pure observation, if we do not place the “experiencer” element, the “thinker” element, the “observer” element of this experience that is taking place here and now, we are freed from the sense of a present identity. And when we are freed from that present sense of identity, that experience undergoes an extraordinary change, because there is no longer the illusion of separation. That’s something we get closer to when there’s this observation about ourselves right now, here, which is Self-Awareness.

We have to investigate what the mind is and how it works within ourselves, what this movement called “I,” the “egoic mind” is, how we work internally. Gilson, this is the study we need to do, because books give us the letters… They are black letters on a white background, which is the paper, but this self-observation gives us the verification of the experiencer of experience. And this finding of the experiencer is the end of itself.

So, the real study, which I have laid out for people who approach this work, is not of the scriptures. You've already read a lot! You intellectually, in terms of words, already know enough. Now you just need to learn the art of looking at yourselves, what I've been calling “unlearning that ‘I’.” What we need, Gilson, is to “unlearn this ‘being'” that we believe we are, we confuse ourselves with and which we pass as being. We need to unlearn this “I,” the idea of this “being” that we are. This needs to go away! Envy, fear, jealousy, anger, ambition, lack of love, psychological confusion, inner restlessness, the inner chattering inside the head, and that movement of thought that goes from one thought to another in an uncontrolled way inside us – all of that needs to go! We have to unlearn this for a new life, for a new brain, a mind in deep and meaningful Silence, within an experience of Intelligence, where the sense of reality, without the dream of separation, is present.

This is what the sages call Enlightenment or Awakening of Consciousness. And it has several names, in each religious culture it is named differently. It is your Natural State, free from the sense of a separate “I”; it is Life free from the “I,” free from the ego. It is the reality of this Christ-Consciousness, in the language of Paul, in the language of Joel Goldsmith; it is your Natural State, free from the illusion of the sense of the thinker, the experiencer, the observer. So, what do we have? God, the Reality of Intelligence, of Presence, and That is Love. None of what we know as love is Real Love. It is something completely outside of what we know.

GC: Master, you talk about, exactly, stopping studying anything outside and studying ourselves. And then I would like Master to talk a little more about this, because when it comes to “studying oneself,” in my case, I saw a lot of the idea of this introspection, of questioning oneself, trying to discover the origin of some feeling… and I know that Master’s approach is completely different. Could you talk a little more about this “studying yourself”?

MG: That introspection or that look inside is what you do when you look for someone. When we are looking for someone who can help us to analyze ourselves, we are looking for a therapist, someone who can help us in this understanding of ourselves. Here it is not about understanding oneself through introspection and self-analysis or through analysis. Introspection, self-analysis or analysis requires the presence of an entity present to do this work. Introspection requires someone who looks inward, analysis requires someone who analyzes someone, and self-analysis is the “someone” analyzing himself, and that implies the presence of an analyst with the analyzed thing.

In fact, this analyst and the analyzed thing are always one and the same. It is like the thinker and the thought: it is always one and the same. And thought does not analyze thought; and thinker does not analyze thought. The thinker is the thought! So, the thing that analyzes is the analyzed thing. So, we are within the same game, this dream of a present identity, doing analysis, introspection or self-analysis, observing thought from the point of view of the one who observes, who is the thinker. In this condition, we stay within the same game. Some out there call it self-knowledge. It is in this sense that people seek personal development. They want self-improvement, so they are doing a self-examination, a study of themselves in that intention, in that goal.

Here, to study oneself is to understand that this “yourself” is not real, it is to become aware of the illusion of this “yourself.” If you go, here in this work, in this search for the “I,” for this thinker, this analyst, this self-analyst, you discover that this self-analyst does not exist, that this thinker does not exist, that this “I” does not exist. So, I use the word “Self-Awareness” in the sense of recognizing that the sense of an identity here, in this experience of thinking, feeling, speaking, emotion, and sensation, is not real.

So, when I use here, Gilson, the expression “study yourself,” I am talking about looking, and only looking. This “look” without the sense of someone looking is not introspection, it is not self-analysis. This has nothing to do with self-improvement. Self-improvement is the sense of an improved “I” – it has abandoned vices and found virtues. This we have already done throughout the history of mankind. Human beings have improved. You can improve as a person, you can spiritualize yourself, you can become a better and better person, a certain amount of work on your own “I,” on your own ego is enough. You used to smoke, stop smoking; you drank, stop drinking; you had certain harmful practices and habits, you leave them. This is improvement, this is self-improvement. That is not what we are dealing with here.

Here, to study oneself is to realize that this envy requires an envious person, this jealousy requires a jealous person, this fear requires a fearful person, and this suffering requires a sufferer. Looking at oneself without the sense of someone being present is an approach of the Real... That’s why I have called it Real Self-Awareness. This is what brings you closer to the True Meditation. And why does this bring you closer to True Meditation? Because it breaks someone’s sense of being present in this instant, in this moment, it gives you this vision outside of this sense of an “I” in this experience, then something, which is Real Meditation, shows itself right away as your Natural State, where What you are, which is outside of the mind, the body, the world, which is your Natural State of Divine Reality, shows itself as Realization.

The profound Truth about your Being is that there is no one right here and now. There is only this Reality, which is not someone’s reality. So, it is in this sense that this “studying yourself” becomes something essential, because studying yourself here, in that sense, as I have been placing it, is to discard yourself from this present moment, into a Real Life, where That which is Nameless, Unspeakable, which is Truth, your Being, blossoms in Intelligence, in Love, in Happiness. That, Gilson, is the end of suffering. It has nothing to do with self-development, self-improvement or human transformation. It’s the end, really, of all that.

GC: Too perfect! Too much, Master! Too much, too much... It’s a Grace to be able to have this opportunity to see all of this in Master’s life: this Freedom, this Love... this Freedom from suffering, this “being Free”... This Love that flows is indescribable, Master. To be close to you, to see your simple life, your common life, but in that total freedom at every moment.

It’s been our time here, Master. So, thanks for this videocast. Here’s an invitation for those who haven't had the opportunity to spend an intensive weekend with Master Gualberto, a weekend intensive. There are online meetings and also face-to-face meetings, including retreats. So, here’s the invitation for those who “felt” it... because it’s not a feeling, but for those who perceived something beyond words, when looking into the Master’s eyes. And also, for those who haven't subscribed to the channel yet: subscribe and leave the “like,” make a comment, send questions that we will bring to the next videocasts. Thank you very much, Master. Gratitude.

MG: Okay, everyone! Thanks for the meeting. See you soon.

How to overcome fear? Psychological fear. Jealousy, envy. Psychological time. Psychological freedom

How to overcome fear? First, we have to understand how fear arises. We know what fear is. It is that reaction movement that appears immediately in the face of danger. When we are faced with physical danger, we know how to deal with it quickly, immediately, instantly. If you are on the street and a car comes at high speed towards you, you immediately know what to do, there is no thinking what to do. The response to that danger, the response to that moment is immediate, there is no thinking what to do. Immediately you get out of the way, you run, you hide, you make a quick movement. This is something very mechanical, instinctual, the brain has an immediate response to it.

So, dealing with physical fears is a simple thing. If you find yourself in a high height and look down, you immediately move away, because the body already reacts automatically, the brain already has this self-protection intelligence, so you move away due to the risk of falling. So, the immediate response we have to physical dangers we don't even need to deal with here. I want to talk to you about this fear common to all of us, that over time we end up getting used to, yes, we got used to it.

Note that jealousy in you, for example, is the presence of fear. There is a psychological insecurity and this psychological insecurity of being deceived, of being betrayed or of not being reciprocated the way you want, creates this feeling, which we call “jealousy”: this is fear. We have the presence of envy, it is also another form of fear; we have anxiety, which is also another form of fear; shyness is a form of fear. We know what the fear mode we live in is. So, we have a way of life that is based on fear and we don't know how to deal with that fear, because we don't understand what fear is. And here, when I use the word “understand” or “understanding fear,” I don't mean an intellectual understanding, much less an approach to fear through analysis. I mean understanding in a different sense. We have not been in contact with fear, we do not have a direct action on this psychological fear, this psychological insecurity, this psychological way of life where we are always internalizing insecurity, non-acceptance, rejection, betrayal, basically, fear. We have to have an understanding approach to fear. It is not analysis, it is not understanding the process, but having a direct understanding in this contact. First, I would like to investigate with you how this occurs, how this arises, but we are not going to analyze it, we are just going to follow this speech and understand the origin of this fear.

We live, psychologically, in a mental world. In this mental world where, psychologically, we live, we are always in a relationship with the other – for example in this case of jealousy or envy – of image. For us the other is an image, we have an image of him or her and this image gives us fulfillment in some way, an emotional fulfillment, a physical, sexual fulfillment. At some level, there is a fulfillment in this image which is, in fact, the presence of the other in this relationship with “who I am,” with this “I” with which I identify myself, which is also nothing other than an image. I have an image of who I am, which is this “I am” that I believe to be, and I have an image of the other. Our relationship with the other is within an image relationship and this is given to me by the other, this image is always “giving itself to me” – to this “me”, to this “I” –, and while it “gives itself to me,” while it fulfills me, while it satisfies me on some level – physical, emotional, intellectual, or sexual –, there is pleasure in this relationship. Notice something curious about the issue of fear, see how much so-called “pleasure” is intrinsically linked to this issue of fear – here I am referring to the psychological fear. In these speeches we are always dealing with psychological freedom, not external freedom.

The human being speaks of an external freedom; the freedom, for example, to do what you want, go where you want, be able to express yourself, say what you think, say what you believe, so this is the freedom of this so-called “freedom of speech.” We are always talking about freedom, “economic freedom,” you see, all of this linked to this issue of freedom, but always linked to this external freedom. This is the greatest concern of humans: to have external freedom, to live their freedom. And for everyone, freedom is really and externally being able to express yourself, go where you want, do what you want, having enough money to get what you want, to buy, then people talk about “freedom of speech,” “economic freedom,” always freedom in this sense. Here I am emphasizing with you the issue of psychological freedom, inner freedom. In this inner freedom, you have an approach of Truth of your Being, and it is this Freedom that we are dealing with here in the meeting, it is Freedom in Itself, it is not freedom of something.

Here I want to invite you to approach the investigation of what this psychological freedom is, and this psychological freedom can only be present when there is no fear. We need a new way of life, a new way of living, a living free from fear. And we cannot clearly understand what fear is until we understand this question between pleasure and fear. Those who offer me, who give me, are an accomplice with me in this matter of pleasure and are also those who show themselves when that pleasure is denied as the reason for this fear here in this “me,” in this “I,” in this ego. So, in this relationship that I have with this image that is the other, which is the idea that I have about who he or she is and the internal demands that this “I” has of this other, which is just an image that I have of him or her, if this is denied, if this is missing, if this pleasure that he gives me in this intellectual, physical, emotional, sexual contact, or on some other level is missing, I now have the presence of frustration, disappointment, jealousy, anger, and all this is the presence of fear.

Follow this here: while there is some form of psychological dependence within you on the other, the dependence on pleasure within a relationship – and it is natural that this relationship is based on an image, an expectation, an idea that I have of who he or she is – as long as that remains present, there will be that presence of fear. As long as this pleasure, which is based on this purely egoic self-fulfillment, is there, there will be this presence of fear. What I mean is that we don't know what a life free of fear is, because our life is always within this relationship, a relationship of images – images of people, images of places, images of objects. What are these images? They are projections of the mind. My contact with an object is also nothing more than an image, it is simple for us to observe this. This emotional bond of ours with these objects, be it a painting, a musical instrument, a car, a living room rug, we are always attached to them. And why are we attached to these objects? Because they are an image that represents an identity for us, they give us an identity. That’s why we are so attached to objects and also to people. What we have of these people are images that bring gratification, that add something to us psychologically, give us another form of psychological fulfillment. So, people give us this, objects also give us this, ideas that we have inside of us, too – which are the result of propaganda, of beliefs. What is given to us as propaganda becomes within us a belief, a concept, something we cling to, hold on to, and this is just another image, it is something that also gives us an identity.

“To feel yourself as someone” means belonging to some idea, it is feeling like you belong to some ideal, to some set of concepts, to a model of belief, so we are always being “someone” within that experience of the image, with ideas, with beliefs, be it philosophical, political, religious, or spiritual beliefs. We are always being “someone” in this image, in this relationship with objects: “my house,” “my car,” “my piano,” “my rug.” Objects with which we are in relation every day, we attach ourselves, because they give us identity. With regard to people, it is the same thing, they are giving us identity, giving us some form of fulfillment, satisfaction, and identity, which is purely egoic.

The sense of an “I” present as being the center of these experiences, with objects, with ideas, with people: this is pleasure, this is satisfaction, this is fulfillment, but there is no truth in it, there is no security in it, there is no reality in it. So, when one of these objects is taken away from us or when they don't give us something, we feel frustrated, angry, and jealous. Our psychological behavior in this false “I,” which is this “I” that we always refer to when someone asks us about ourselves and we use the expression “I,” the pronoun “I.” This illusory “I” is always within this condition, which is a completely chaotic, insufferable and unhappy condition, in fact, a condition of deep misery. This is our internal condition when there is no Freedom. If there is no Freedom, there is no awareness of the Divine Truth, of the Truth of Love. So, people have questions like, “How do I get rid of fear?” You cannot get rid of fear, you cannot get rid of fear because you are fear. It is important that we understand this. This sense of a present “I,” which is an image that you have about who you are, is fear, because this sense of “I” is always in this dependence on pleasure, on the search for fulfillment, on the search for identity in experiences with people, objects, and ideas. Are we in this together?

We are here working with you to end the illusion of a present identity, and that is the end of fear. “How do I get rid of fear?” That “I” is fear, there is no “how.” “How” implies time for this “me” to reject, to throw something out of itself, but this “me” is that thing. That “I” is not separate from fear, it is fear – we need to see that too, clearly. You see, I already hinted at this now, here, that this “I” is fear, but let’s explore this a little further. It’s like when questions are made that way, implicit in those questions is always the idea of something that this “I,” this “me,” has to get rid of. We are not interested in that, in its end, in the end of this “I,” this “me.” We are interested, based on this “I,” this “me,” to continue having our lives and being free from what bothers us, what bothers this “I,” this “me.” What gives pleasure, I want to hold; and what does not give pleasure, I want to get rid of it. That which favors pain for this “I,” as in the case of jealousy, envy, and fear, I want to get rid of, but fulfillment, satisfaction, and gratification, I don't want to get rid of, I want to sustain. And yet all this is within this psychological dependency, this psychological identity that “I” – this “me” – finds in all of this. Do you follow this?

Then, there is no getting rid of fear. Here we have to inquire into the nature of the “I,” that brings the understanding of fear. The understanding of fear is the understanding of pleasure. The end of fear is the end of pleasure, of this pleasure that sits in this image, of this psychological dependence on fulfillment and satisfaction in relationships, which we call “love” and now we are seeing that it is just pleasure, fulfillment, and satisfaction – here we introduce another expression that we are now investigating with you. The expression “love,” for us, is fulfillment, it is satisfaction, it is fulfillment with another, but it has this “I and the other,” this mutual satisfaction, this mutual fulfillment, this mutual pleasure. If that is present, we call it “love,” but it hides hatred, anger, spite, envy, fear, and if all this is present, it is not love. Love must be something else.

After all, what is love? Now I want to touch this here with you. Love is that which is present when there is no “I,” and that is present when there is no “me” because when the “I” is not, fear is not. I will say this again to you: there is no fear without the “I,” fear is the “I,” the “I” is the basis of that pleasure, so the presence of that pleasure is the presence of fear, which is the presence of “I,” that is the end of this so-called “love” as we know. Notice that in our relationships, the one who gives us “love” is the same one who frightens us, who makes us afraid because we don't want him to run away, to go away, to betray us, this makes us angry, choleric, aggressive, violent, frightened, and jealous. How can this be Love? What that “I” feels is not Love, it is dependence, it is neediness.

I know this is a little complicated at first – even to hear it – but look at how much fear there is within our relationships, how much dependency there is in our relationships, jealousy and envy, because our relationships are not based on the Freedom of Being Consciousness, that psychological freedom from the “I,” from the ego. It is when the ego is gone that we have the Truth of Love, but that is nameless. It is indescribable. A Real relationship, where the Truth of this One is present, It assumes another form, another name, apparently, but it is the same Presence, which is the presence of God, it is the presence of Grace, it is the presence of Truth, it is the presence of the Self, whatever name we want to give it. That is the presence of Beauty, that is the presence of Love. So, we have the end of fear, we have the end of so-called “pleasure,” we have the end of that image. It is already clear that the image is a construct of memory, of thought, of an idealization, of an engendered project, created by thought in its search for fulfillment. That’s that image and that ends.

So, God Realization, the Realization of your Being, the Realization of Truth is the presence of Love, and That is present when there is no more “I.” All that ends when the time that thought creates to sustain it all disappears. I am referring to the psychological time, because it is this psychological time, it is exactly there that this “I” has its continuity. “I was this yesterday; I am this today and I will be something else tomorrow": this is all part of that psychological time, of the “I.” “I loved you yesterday and I don't love you anymore.” So that “I” says this: “I love you,” “I loved you,” “I don't love you anymore,” there is the presence of time. “I liked you, I don't anymore.” This “wanting,” this “like,” this so-called “loving” is something present in this psychological time, in this game of images that we have in our relationships.

We are always moving from one image to another, from one that no longer satisfies you to another that will fulfill you for a while. It’s always the “I” time, the ego time, that psychological time. When the Truth of God, which is the Truth of the Presence, of Grace, of Love, is present, there is no longer this psychological time, so there is no longer this relationship of the ego, of this “I,” in this dependence on fulfillment and satisfaction with objects, people, and ideas. All this ends because there is no longer any sense of a present identity, which is the “I.” This is the presence of psychological Real Freedom, which is the end of the ego in this Revelation of the presence of Love.

Here I want to invite you to discover the Truth about your Being and realize that it is within this duality – “I and fear,” “I and pleasure,” “I and the other,” “I and the world,” “I and life,” “I and love” – that is the whole problem of human existence. An “I” that sees itself separate from what it thinks, what it feels and what it does. That’s what we're investigating here on the channel.

We have a playlist here on the channel talking about approaching Meditation. This approach of the True Meditation is possible when what just happened here in this speech occurs: a work of self-observation and clear perception of the illusion that constitutes this “I” in this approach to Life. So, the basis for this Revelation of your Being is in this Self-Awareness. Here, we have just worked with you on the investigation of the illusion of identity in relation to people and objects.

I want to leave this invitation to you: we are working on this here on the channel, in online and face-to-face meetings, as well as retreats. If this is something that makes sense to you, leave your “like” and subscribe to the channel. OK? Here’s the invitation and we'll see you in the next one! Thanks for the meeting, until next time!

Psychological Freedom | Psychological suffering | Psychological conditioning | Psychological prison

We keep talking to you about the importance of psychological Freedom. Not from external freedom, of the external world, but of this internal world, this psychological world, which is the world of the “I,” of the ego. That’s the Real Freedom we need, the only Freedom that means the end of suffering – I refer to the internal, psychological suffering. We have different forms of fear. These various fears, for example, are representations of this internal suffering. An approach to yourself, to the Truth of your Being, represents the end of suffering, because that’s the end of the “I,” the ego.

Here on this channel, we are working with you to end the illusion of being “someone,” of placing yourself in the world as an entity, a person, an “I” living a separate life, moving in the world in an action of desires and fears and therefore sustaining and establishing, as a model of living, the suffering, the contradiction, the conflict, the internal, psychological misery; this misery that finds in external life all kinds of situations of representation, appearing in this life externally as a prison that, in fact, is not there but inside each one of us. A suffering that, in fact, is not there but within each one of us. A confusion that, in fact, is not external, not there, but it’s inside each one of us.

Observe what we are saying: all the confusion, all the suffering, all the human problem in the world is something present because of this approach we have, internally, in this life, in this relationship with the world. We are not people or creatures separate from each other, from life and the world. All our contact with the world and the other is shown in this way because of this internal confusion we carry in each of us, which we are living here, inside each of us. This fear, anxiety, confusion, and internal disorder present are what we see in the world, but the world is an external representation of this internal condition of imprisonment and suffering in which we find ourselves. And all this is present due to the lack of the understanding of the Truth about ourselves.

We don't have a vision of who we are; we mistake ourselves for ideas, beliefs, judgments, opinions, and a set of things learned due to this wrong format of learning, which is to accumulate information within us, taking this information for real, for truth. We do this, for example, by constantly dealing with all forms of advertisement. We are today, psychologically, the result of propaganda, concepts, ideas, beliefs, and everything we've heard and are constantly listening to. So, our brains have constantly been bombarded by ideas, beliefs, and suggestions. We have been living within this model of internal conditioning I’ve been calling the psychological conditioning. That has been the psychological condition of our brain, and our behavior is all based on this model. Thus, what we have in the world is what we are. We are, psychologically and internally, what the world is. All the envy, ambition, violence, fear, complications, and problems, all that is present in the world is also present in what we believe to be, in what we identify with, and naturally, we assume to be ourselves. All this is happening because of this lack of the understanding of the Truth about us.

I've been talking here on the channel about the value of Self-Awareness. Self-Awareness is this contact with the Truth about what you are, here and now. The awareness of psychological conditioning is what you are here and now. Becoming aware of this is to approach Self-Awareness. Self-Awareness makes you realize the internal conditions you are in – and we want external freedom. When people use the expression “freedom,” they are idealizing it, so we are constantly dealing with the idea of freedom. And for us, freedom is the ability to externally do what we want, when we want, to go where we want, and to have the strength and power to express ourselves without being inhibited, restrained, or prohibited by anyone. So, when people use the expressions “freedom of speech,” “economic freedom” or “freedom to do what you want or desire,” they are always talking about external freedom – as if the real problem were outside. Actually, the problem is what we are because of this lack of understanding who we are, of living inside an internal prison. And this prison is the one that has been built by thought in us, by all these images, symbols, and ideas that are present here, in this body-mind – and we don't know how to deal with it.

We have never investigated this issue of thought and we are talking about freedom; of freedom as an idea, as something we need to have and always referring to this external freedom. As long as we don't understand this issue of thought in us, of how we function, of what goes on inside each one of us, there will be no Real Freedom. Real Freedom is the Freedom to deal with the Truth of what is present here. In that sense, the external and the internal are one. When there’s not the vision from that space I call Freedom, there will be confusion externally, because confusion is already within each one of us, and it’s present because we don't understand what thought is and how we function.

Life requires a new approach, a new view, not like the one we've had so far, based on thought, on this set of ideas and beliefs about who we are, what the world is, and what life is. So, this external disorder is present because of this internal disorder. After all, what is thought? How do we function? What is this “I"? What is the ego? What is the Truth about the person I believe I am? The question is: who am “I”?

Looking at all this internal movement in us and realizing that thought is basically a recollection, a remembrance, a memory. As we go through experiences, that is registered and becomes an idea present, engraved in the brain; this idea engraved in the brain is what we call memory, and basically, this is thought. Life is happening here and now, and we are, based on thought – which are remembrances, recollections, and memories, which, in fact, are the past present in us – trying to attend to what is present here and now.

So, our psychological life, based on thought, is reflected in our external life as the past trying to suit, to adjust itself to this moment, to this present moment. When that happens, the problem, the conflict, the absence of freedom is present. It is very simple for us to verify this. When you deal with people, you believe you are dealing with the truth in dealing with them. At that moment, dealing with them, you are not dealing with the Truth; you are dealing with a projection, an image, a psychological conditioning, a memory in this relationship with them. You're not facing something alive, you're facing an image, a set of beliefs coming from the past, and that’s what we're dealing with the person in front of us. Naturally, there’s no Truth in this relationship, and if there’s no Truth, what is present is the illusion, the trap, the lie, and this is what has sustained all forms of conflict, trouble, and suffering, for example, in our life of relationship with the world and others.

“The idea I have about who you are” and “the idea you have about who I am,” this is what we are dealing with in this relationship. We don't know who the other is. We have an idea about who he is, but it’s very simple, we don't know who we are. How can we know who the other is if what we have of ourselves is also an image, an accumulation of remembrances, memories, and recollections of the past about who we are, about who the other is? So, there is no Love, no Peace in our relationships, why? Because there is no Freedom, there is no Truth – and here, I am referring to Freedom in Itself, to the Freedom of being Intelligence, Consciousness, and not to external freedom, to freedom as we understand, to outside freedom, but to the internal, psychological Freedom.

This psychological Freedom is the absence of this model of past, present, and future that thought has preserved, present within each one of us. This format of past, present, and future is the idea of time that exists only in the imagination that thought sustains – I have called it psychological time. We live in the psychological time, in this illusion of identity present within experience, for example, in this relationship with the husband, wife, children, the employees, or with your boss at your work. Our world of relationships is based on the illusion of thought that we don't understand, so we don't know what thought is; we are not free from thought. If we are not free from thought, there is no Real Freedom.

Real Freedom is not external freedom. I'll say it again: it’s not the freedom from something, but it’s the psychological Freedom, it’s Freedom from this illusion, this sense of separate identity, this illusory “I.” That’s what we're dealing with you here, pointing out the beauty, the importance of a life completely free from that sense of separate identity and, therefore, of conflict and contradiction. It is when Love is present due to the absence of this “I,” this ego, this person, this illusory identity – where the sense of this psychological prison lies – then, the end of thought – and here I am referring to this thought I have called “psychological thought.”

We need thought at a certain level in our lives, only at a certain level. Logical thinking, non-emotional, non-sentimental thinking, for example, knowing your home address, going to your home, dealing with something from a technical point of view, you need knowledge, which is memory, remembrance, and thought. Only at this level is thought important. But there is a level of thinking in us that is the level of psychological thinking, which sustains conflict, contradiction, suffering, and fear, sustaining this condition of inner contradiction and problems.

So, I want to invite you to a life free from this sense of “I,” the sense of ego-identity and, therefore, a life free from thought, this psychological thought that is creating and sustaining in us all forms of complications, of suffering, anguish, fears, desires, and so on.

Is this possible? Yes, it is possible when you become aware of the Truth about who you are, here and now, and these patterns of thoughts cease. This psychological thinking format disappears; you are with only technical or functional thinking. Knowing your name is a thought, a memory; knowing your home address is a thought, it’s a memory; how to work in a profession requires thinking, a memory. That is non-emotional, functional, practical memory. Apart from that memory, we have the psychological memory, that psychological thought that sustains the “I,” the ego, the illusion of the sense of separateness and, therefore, of confusion, suffering, and complications in our lives. Thus, our work has this purpose: to become aware of the Truth of what we are. The awareness of this is the Real Freedom of Being.
