How to free yourself from suffering? | Eckhart Tolle and "The Power of Now" | Psychological suffering

Hello everyone! Welcome to another meeting here on our channel.

People have asked how to get rid of suffering. It is necessary, first, for you to investigate what suffering is. We want to get rid of something we don't understand.

The truth is that we can find relief from suffering, there are several ways to find relief from it, there is a way to get relief from this pain, from this discomfort, from this psychological, internal discomfort, but we don't know what it is, so it doesn't end.

I want to invite you, within this meeting… as this is a channel aimed at the encounter with Happiness, this encounter with the Truth of your Being, which is the Divine Truth, I want to invite you to go beyond suffering. This is Real Liberation from suffering. However, this real end to suffering is possible when there is this True Understanding about who You truly are. Therefore, we must first investigate what suffering is.

The real way to approach What we are is in an indirect way. First, we discard that which we are not, that which has no reality in What we are, in what we truly are.

The discarding of it, the end of it, is the Revelation of our own Being, it is the Revelation of Happiness. So, we have to have, first, an approach not of What we are, but of what we confuse ourselves with, what we tangle ourselves up with; and suffering is something like that. Suffering is not part of your Essential Nature, suffering is something present on the periphery of your Being, on the surface of your Being, it is something present within the mind. It is the mind that is the basis, the center, of this condition – I refer to the mind, to that mind which separates itself from Life, which separates itself from the Understanding of Life.

Suffering is present because of this separation. When there is this separation, there is naturally this resistance, there is this sense of duality, and in that sense of duality there is suffering. Spiritual Enlightenment, the Awakening of your Divine Nature, is the Realization of the Truth that there is no suffering in Life as It Is, as It appears, because there is no sense of duality, there is no sense of separateness. So, what is suffering? How to free yourself from suffering? Definitively, from all the suffering? By freeing yourself from the illusion, this sense of separateness, this sense of duality between you and this given experience.

Let's put this here in a very simple way for you. For example: jealousy is an element of unhappiness, so it is within this suffering, but what is valid here for jealousy is valid for any other frame of internal suffering, psychological suffering. What happens with jealousy, for example... once you confuse what you feel for someone with love, it's inevitable that there will be suffering.

It may remain hidden for a while, but it will reveal itself soon. The feeling you have for another person, linked to pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment, fulfillment with the presence of the other, this is not Love... this is not Love, it is a relationship on this affective, sentimental, emotional, experiential level, at the level of experiences, sensations, pleasure, fulfillment, at the physical level, at the sexual level, at the level of companionship, but none of this is the Truth of Love.

So, if you confuse what you feel for another with Real Love, the presence of attachment to that sensation, to that feeling… that jealousy is there, it is present. And this jealousy is not in this relationship with the other specifically. The other is not the cause of your suffering when the other disappoints you, creates frustration, abandons you, leaves you for someone else.

Or, when it's not jealousy, it could be the loss of a loved one, someone you feel you love.

He is suddenly hospitalized and dies, dies, so there is this pain, there is this suffering, and none of it actually concerns the other, but it is something inside you. If you do not understand suffering in itself, there is no way for you to go beyond suffering, to have a definitive Liberation from suffering. It is necessary to understand the Truth about who You are. The Truth of your Being is free from this sense of separateness and therefore from this search for fulfillment in a sensation, in an experience, for example, in a relationship.

Happiness is something inherent in What You are. With me here and now, you investigate this, that this sensation is linked to the idea of someone, who is this “me,” this “I,” with the other.

This separation is completely false. This present pain is not the pain because the other left, it is not because the other died, it is not because the other abandoned you or because the other died. The present pain, which we call jealousy, or missing someone, or lack, this pain is inside.

The sense of “someone” present, separating from this experience of pain, strengthens this sense of duality. Jealousy is not separate from the one who feels that jealousy. This pain called jealousy is not separate from this “me,” from this “I.” Notice that this pain is always associated with images, remembrances, memories, pleasant moments, happy moments, loving moments, and that these moments are no longer present. This “me,” this “I,” holds thoughts about it, feeds thoughts about it. The illusion is that there is this “me” and that this thought experience is real, separate from that “me”.

So, there is this illusion of this “I” thinking about it, which is not true.

This is called duality. This sense of duality – “the thought and the thinker,” “I and the other,” “I (which is an image I make of myself) and the other (which is an image I have of him),” “I believe that this is outside and I am inside” – this duality, this “me,” this “I,” this “me” and the “non-me,” this thought and this thinker, “me and this memory,” this division, this separation is basically suffering. That's why we're investigating what suffering is.

Where is suffering settled? Then, in that sense of duality, in the illusion that “I can do something about this thought. I don´t realize that this thought is 'me'. The illusion that 'I' can do something about this feeling, I can even get rid of this feeling, I can get rid of this suffering," this sustains the illusion of this "me", this "I." This “I” is suffering itself, this “I” is jealousy itself. There is no separation between “me” and jealousy, between “me” and suffering, between “me” and thought, between “me” and envy, between “me” and nostalgia…

All this is being produced by thought. There is no such "I;" it is thought, remembrance, memory, imagination, it is these frames emerging, creating the illusion of “someone” within them, separating themselves to suffer this experience. Are we in this together?

The sense of “I,” of “me,” is an illusion. What you have here and now is a memory, a remembrance, a recollection, an image… the other is just an image.

Therefore, for you to go beyond suffering, you need to go beyond the “me,” the “I.”

This is possible when you don't run away from that experience, but when you welcome the direct observation of it. This observation is only true when the “I” does not enter, the sense of the “I” is not. If a thought arises, a remembrance arises, a memory arises, a recollection arises; and with it, a pain. This is what it is, here and now. The idea of going beyond that creates this separation, creates this “I.” If pain is present, it needs to be observed; you have to approach it, and you only approach it, when you welcome it without rejecting, without criticizing, without condemning, without trying to get rid of it, without trying to justify it. Then, there is an end to this inner duality.

And when the end to this inner duality takes place, something entirely new arises; it is the end of suffering. Here, it is the end of envy, the end of jealousy, the end of “missing” someone who died; it is the end, because it is the end of the image, it is the end of imagination, it is the end of thought; that's the end of the thinker, that's the end of the experiencer, that's the end of the ego. Therefore, the investigation of suffering is the investigation of the end of this sense of duality. This psychological duality is what sustains the illusion of the egoic sense and therefore of the sense of separateness between you and Life, between you and the other, between you and the world.

If this egoic sense falls away, suffering falls away. It is valid for jealousy, it is valid for envy, it is valid for anxiety, it is valid for depression, it is valid for boredom, it is valid for this pain of loneliness, it is valid for guilt, it is valid for fear, for the various fears present in this condition of egoic mind.

Our job here is to show you that it is possible to Realize your Being, Realize the Truth of your Divine Nature, to become aware that your Divine Reality is Happiness, it is Love, it is Peace, it is Freedom, and there is no suffering in your Being; suffering is only in the mind.

Mind is that condition of duality, of separation; it is what holds feelings, sensations, perceptions, as if there was “someone” present within it, and there is not. Feelings are present, emotions are present, thoughts are present, perception is present, the relationship with the other is present – a loving, affective, happy relationship… some challenges also present themselves within a relationship, but now all this is seen without the sense of a present identity, without the "me," without the "I," without the ego.

So, there is no suffering, because there is no fear, because there is no attachment, because there is no illusion of the sense of control of the other or of Life; fear is not, then suffering is not, illusion is not. Do you follow this?

Here within our channel, we are working with you on this, showing you that it is possible to go beyond psychological duality, beyond psychological suffering; it is possible to go beyond fear by going beyond thought. Thought is what has sustained psychological time, the past that “someone” lived, the present that “someone” is living and the future that “someone” will live.

There is no such thing, there is no such “someone.” There is only Life, here and now. The sense of "I" is not present. Your body is present, Life is present, in this moment.

Your body will be present two hours from now or twenty years from now, and what we will have twenty years from now is always the now, this instant, this moment, the Truth of your Being. The Truth about who You are is the Divine Reality of your Essential Nature.

Life is now, Reality is now, Love is now, Peace is now, contact in relationships with people is now. Now is the Reality of Life. Eckhart Tolle has talked about it, has talked about this, and people have not understood how simple it is being put, and here I am sharing it with you. So, this “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle… Eckhart Tolle and “The Power of Now” is this!

There is nothing mysterious in the speech of Realized Beings. Here I have, in this channel, quoted sages like Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Eckhart Tolle… We are working together on the end of the illusion of the sense of separateness, of the sense of ego identity and therefore the end of psychological time. This is the end of suffering.

So, to the question “how to free yourself from suffering?”, the end of suffering is the answer; and the end of suffering is the end of the sufferer's illusion, of that sense of “I,” that sense of “me.” Make this evident in your life. We have a playlist on the True Meditation, and we talk about the importance of Meditation for This, for this Realization. All you need is to discover this beautiful Art which is the Meditation Art, which is to assume the Truth of your Being here and now. So, here on our channel, we have a playlist about it.

If what you're listening to is something that makes sense to you, we have several playlists here on the channel that go deeper into this issue of Spiritual Awakening, Spiritual Enlightenment. If this makes sense to you, subscribe to our channel, leave your "like"... Reminding you that we have face-to-face meetings and online meetings, OK? And we can work this out together, OK? Thanks for the meeting and we'll see you next time.
