Here, in these meetings, we are having a contact - notice this - where we are communicating something to you. Now, this act of communicating, or this communication, naturally requires attention to it, attention to listening, this is what makes it possible in this meeting for us to have together a comprehehnsion of what we are discussing here with you.
These subjects we address here with you on the channel are not so simple subjects, this is something that requires a very careful look from each one of us, for a direct, experiential comprehension of this, that is when real comprehension occurs.
You cannot comprehend something when you only partially approach it. If we approach something to comprehend it, it is different from when we approach it to understand it. We can only superficially have an approximation of understanding or we can have a direct comprehension. Here is laid out for you the beauty of comprehending, the understanding is not enough.
In life, we are dealing with very complex issues. You see, the issues themselves have the complexity of our mind, of our consciousness, of this consciousness that we have, of this mind we bring. So, what we intend here together is to participate actively. This active participation brings us closer to comprehension.
If I have something to teach you, I need you to naturally make yourself available to actively participate in that situation. Note that when you work with a professional in some area, they actively participate with you in the learning that you have. It is natural that you interact with them in a very active way; otherwise, you will not learn what they want to teach you, to communicate to you.
Here we are together to discover, to make observations, to become aware of some matters of great relevance to each one of us. Unless you are internally predisposed to this vision, it will not happen. It is necessary that you internally have a predisposition to comprehend what we are discussing here with you, to learn from this.
Here, learning is not about acquiring information, knowledge, or even experience, because we are not dealing with a subject that is merely technical, such as, for example, a profession that is learned. Here we are actually learning how to learn. I cannot tell you what I am, but I can tell you how to approach yourself to comprehend who you are.
So, this is what we are dealing with here with you when we deal with this learning about Self-Awareness. Someone cannot give you Self-Awareness, someone cannot show you Self-Awareness; a book cannot teach you this, a lecture will not show you what Self-Awareness is. Self-Awareness is the awareness of self-revelation. You become aware of yourself in this learning about yourself. Here our work together is to show you how to access this learning.
Note, in life we learn everything. So, technically, we know how to do things because we have learned. You know how to drive a car, you know how to ride a bike, the most basic things in life have been learned, but we do not know the most basic thing in life, which is the awareness of the Truth about who we are. A small child already suffers from anxiety, anguish, already suffers from fear, and we do not teach a child how to deal with this. We do not teach because we do not know, because we are also suffering like this child suffers.
When you were in high school, when you were studying, when your eraser disappeared, or your pen disappeared, or your pencil disappeared, you would feel irritated, annoyed, enraged, angry because it had disappeared. This would generate states in you, from a slight apprehension, concern, to even anger. So, we are always in contact with internal emotional states, of feelings, that communicate conflicts, disorder, suffering to us from a young age, and we don't know how to deal with it. We, in fact, don't know how we function, how our mind works.
Why does losing a pen or pencil make us angry, make us furious? What is this feeling? What is this fury, this rage? What is this state within us? Maybe it is not exactly that, maybe it is the state of fear, because now we have to justify to our parents why we lost the pen, the pencil or the eraser, and they are also scared little creatures, also filled with rage, so maybe we are afraid of their rage, and we don't even have room for our own rage. But what is rage? What is fear? What is this feeling of pain when we lose things?
We lose material things, but we also lose people in life, and we don't know the truth about fear, for example. What is fear? We don't know what fear is. We don't know ourselves, we don't know how we function, why we feel what we feel, why we think exactly what we think and do exactly what we do, and we don't know why we do things thinking about other things. We do something driven by thought, but it is a thought in contradiction with another thought of not doing it, and yet we do it anyway.
Note that our internal states are conflicting from a young age. These internal states are the states of the "I," of the ego, of this feeling of consciousness, which is the consciousness of the person, of the person that "I am." Then you grow up and this is present in your closest relationships. Now this is present in your relationship with your husband, with your wife, with your children, with your work colleagues. You are an employee of a company and there you are stressed, worried, with problems.
We have all kinds of problems. Whether they are internal, emotional problems, because you are having some kind of relationship problem with your wife and are now stressed at work, or external problems, such as financial hardship, not having enough money to buy something you need. So, human life is full of problems and this issue of fear is present in it: the fear of being fired because you are stressed; stress because you are having problems in your relationship with your wife; stress because you need money to pay for something and you don't have that money, and the money you earn is not much. In short, there are countless problems of all kinds.
This sense of being someone present in life, in experience, something that we have since childhood, is something from the beginning to the end of our days in this way. Thus, we have a tedious, boring, annoying, worried, stressed, anxious, depressed life, with problems. Breaking away from this is something possible in this life when we discover what Real Life is to live.
The life we are living is the life we were given culturally to live, socially to live, politically to live, historically to live, traditionally to live, because our parents lived that way too, and their parents as well. What will be the truth of life when this life as we know is no longer present? Is it possible here and now to become aware of what life is without suffering, without problems, without stress, anger, anguish, depression, anxiety, fear?
We have to investigate the nature of fear. Notice that fear is something that is present in all these states we've just described, so it seems to run through all these states, as if it were the thread of the necklace, the string of the necklace, the string of beads on a necklace. Fear is something that is always present in life.
Human beings live within this pattern of fear. Fear is in everything: the fear of losing, the fear of having lost, the fear of not achieving, the fear of explaining, the fear of not having, the fear of not being able to. We are afraid of the future, we are afraid of the past. We are afraid of being discovered for something we did yesterday: it is the fear of the past. We are afraid of not being met tomorrow in a need that we have at the moment. So, fear is present all the time.
And notice that fear is a companion of memory, of thought. There is no possible fear for you without thought saying something about it. It is when thought is present that fear is present. Now, here, at this moment, without thought you have lost nothing, without thought you have no past, without thought you have no future. Without thought you cannot get sick, that's the future. Without thought you have never gotten sick, that's the past.
Note that thought is always the reference to the presence of fear. If there is thought, there is fear. And fear is always related to something or someone, some event, some object or some experience for that element, which is this "me," this "I," this feeling of a person that you have.
Is it possible to live a life free from fear? Is it possible to live a life free from this "I?" This requires the presence of Self-Awareness, it requires the awareness of the truth about yourself, in addition to this culture of personhood that you have received within this context of humanity. This is our proposal here for you, a life free from the ego, a life free from the "I" and, therefore, a life of thought free from fear. At some levels, thought is needed, at others it is not only unnecessary, but it is the basis for this confusion in which we are living this life that we know.
Here we are together making discoveries that require this communication and this encounter of comprehension, which requires this state of listening to what is being said here. This real state of listening occurs when there is Silence, when there is space in you to follow a speech like this and see what we are discussing here, putting it here for you. Now, it is important that you, here at this moment, comprehend: this act of listening to life as it happens, of noticing your reactions when they arise is something that, at this moment, is the great lesson that life grants you, that life gives you.
Observing your reactions, observing your thoughts, your feelings, observing what happens to you in your relationship with objects, with people, with situations, observing how your thoughts work within you, simply observing, becoming aware of this is being able to break this pattern, which is the pattern of fear. That is why it is essential here, as I said a moment ago, this active participation.
It is necessary to place yourself in this situation of listening, observing, perceiving yourself when a thought, feeling, or emotion arises, when something is lost, or when something unpleasant happens. Bringing this perspective to this moment means going beyond this psychological condition of existence where this way of repeating oneself all the time, of always being the same person, is present - what I have called psychological conditioning.
We are always reacting in the same way to the same old situations, so the sense of "I," the sense of ego repeats itself. That is why we have shown you here the beauty of this encounter with the model of thinking that is present in each one of us. We need to discover what this thinking is, how you process thoughts or how they are processed in you.
So, the truth about what thinking is, is the Liberation of this model, which is the model of thought in this common form of life. That is why we have been emphasizing here the importance of learning about ourselves, because it is this learning how you function, how the mind works, how thought works.
Notice, the question is: what's thought? We don't know. But comprehending how thought works, how this thinking happens. What is thinking? We don't know. So, we are constantly being taken to internal states that we are unaware of, which are sustaining within us situations of emotional disorder, of psychological suffering. Thus, we are, in life, in this particular life of the "I," full of problems, with unresolved situations.
Here, with you, our proposal is a new life, a Real Life, a True Life, which is this Divine Life, which is the Life of your Being, of That which is You in your Essential Nature, which we do not know, because we are living a life based on this model of the "I," on this model of the ego, which is the model of thought.
Observe, thought has a place. Notice, thought has a space, but it is only its space, and yet it is taking up an irregular space in our lives. Life is happening here and now, and in it there is this Beauty, this Grace, this Freedom when the sense of the ego, which is this movement of thought in this restlessness, in this format of ego-identity, is no longer present. So, we need to know what thought is and what space, what real place it has in our lives, as well as what thinking is.
Note that thinking is a process of memory recognition for a stimulus that arises here and now, at this moment. You see, we only have this process and it is something mechanical. We do not have someone in this process, and the belief is that you are the one who thinks. The truth about it, is that thinking is something that happens to us because of a stimulus and a response, but there is no element present processing it - I mean this element that is the "I." So, this feeling of "I," of a person present in life, in experience, is disorder, it is confusion.
Here we are, with you, investigating the awareness of Being, the awareness of life free from the "I," free from the ego and, therefore, free from thought and, naturally, free from everything that thought has created and sustained in our lives. That is what we are here with you working on in these meetings. We can, indeed, Realize, in this life, the Truth about ourselves, the awareness of God.
These meetings that we have here on the weekends, Saturday and Sunday, are online meetings to investigate this together.
