Joel Goldsmith | Spiritual Interpretation of Scripture | How to Overcome Fear? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello, everyone, we're here for another videocast. Master Gualberto is here with us again. Thank you, Master, for being here. Master, today I'm going to read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Spiritual Interpretation of Scripture." In an excerpt from this book, Master, Joel makes the following comment: "He who has found God no longer fears man or circumstances." Regarding this subject that Joel Goldsmith discusses in this excerpt, the issue of fear, can you share your perspective on how to overcome fear?

MG: Here, Gilson, the big question is this: How to overcome fear? But note one fundamental thing here: before we ask about overcoming something, about conquering anything, what is the truth about it? If you have an enemy and want to win, you need to defeat that enemy, you have to be aware of how he acts, what his capability is, how he functions. You have to study your adversary if you want to defeat them.

Here, we come across some very curious things. From a psychological point of view, our adversaries need to be studied, not to be defeated, but to be comprehended. We need to comprehend these adversaries. Comprehending these adversaries gives us victory over them. Not because we will defeat them, but because these adversaries, from a psychological point of view, are adversaries that have established themselves in our lives, in our experiences, due to ignorance.

Therefore, our greatest adversary is not the psychological adversaries we have, such as envy, jealousy, fear, anger, rage, sadness, depression, anxiety. You see, our "psychological adversaries" are countless. These adversaries, which cause us psychological suffering and emotional disorders, are not the adversaries we must overcome. Here, the real adversary is the presence of ignorance: not knowing the truth about yourself, about how the mind works.

Memory has become established. Feelings arise because of these memories. How are these memories sustained? Sustaining internal, conflicting, suffering states, which we call adversaries and which we believe we must overcome. We need to investigate this, become aware of it. So, our greatest adversary here is the presence of ignorance. We are living in ignorance about ourselves. We are unaware of how the mind works, how it happens within each of us.

So, we have to investigate the structure, the nature, the basis, the foundation, the basis of this psychological condition present within us, which is the condition of ignorance. What we lack is not victory over our psychological adversaries, over what causes us problems, conflicts, and internal suffering. What we lack is the presence of vision about ourselves.

So, the foundation is knowing yourself, studying yourself. Learning about yourself. Learning why the hurt, the resentment, the anger, the pain of loneliness are within "me." Why is the presence of fear in "me"... What is the truth of this "me," what is the truth about fear and about what "I" am when I am here in feeling-in feeling fear, in feeling anger, in feeling worry, the pain of loneliness... So, we need to become aware of the truth about the "I," about this "me."

So, the end of ignorance is the real victory over problems. But it's not someone having a victory over problems. It's the fact that problems exist because of the presence of ignorance. Free from ignorance, we are free from problems, which includes the presence of all these "inner adversaries." Otherwise, we will always continue to have to overcome, and again, and again, and again.

See that you have already had, during your lifetime, twenty years, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty. Or are you eighty? How many times have you overcome internal states of suffering? But, in fact, have you overcome them? Or were they there for a while and disappeared, and then others arose?

So, we are in life, throughout our lives, struggling with problems, trying to overcome difficulties, problems, disorders, various sufferings, conflicts, countless internal contradictions. These states of pain... fear is just one. In fact, there are countless fears. So, we have "fear," but countless fears. The names are different, but we are dealing with only fear.

And we are dealing with fear from a mistaken perspective, where the presence of the "I" is present, separating itself from fear, to triumph over it, to overcome fear. This is the situation in which, psychologically, we find ourselves: one of ignorance, of illusion. Breaking with this, going beyond ignorance, is going beyond fear.

Not only fear, but every form of suffering. Since all suffering has its basis, its foundation in this illusion of the "I," which is the presence of the ego within us. This is the root of ignorance. The root of ignorance consists in the sense of someone present separating themselves from the present moment, from what it is arising, what it is showing itself, what it is presenting.

So, what it shows itself, with what it is presenting, we separate ourselves from. This sense of separation is the "I," the ego, the root of ignorance. Investigating the nature of the thinker, the experiencer, the person, this me, is going beyond fear.

See, it's not about overcoming fear. It's not about getting over fear. It's about discovering the Truth that is Life here and now, when there is no longer this sense of "I," there is no longer ignorance. If there is no longer the presence of ignorance, there is a vision of Life as It truly is. And in It is present the Divine Reality, the Reality of God. Life is, in truth, You in your Essential Nature. And in It, there is no conflict, no disorder, no suffering.

The egoic mind is the presence of the "I," and this "I" is the root of suffering, because it is the basis of illusion. The present ignorance is this sense of separation between you and life, between you and others, between you and God. This is what establishes within us an internal condition of suffering, of fear.

This is what puts us in a mistaken disposition: in the illusion of defeating an adversary that is not there, of overcoming an adversary that is not outside. This adversary is the presence of thought, the presence of the "I," the presence of the ego, the presence of ignorance.

When this ends, there is feeling, thinking, and acting here, in this moment, free from illusion. Since we no longer have the sense of separation, there is no longer conflict, no longer fear, no longer suffering. This requires the presence of Self-awareness. This requires the Awareness of True Meditation. Not what people out there call meditation, but Real Meditation in an experiential way, in a practical way of living.

The awareness of your reactions is the liberation of this sense of "I," of all this movement that is the movement of the ego. Then, Divine Reality reveals itself beyond the mind, beyond conflicts, beyond the sense of separation between you and life, between you and others, between you and God.

Therefore, it is not about overcoming fear. It is about discovering the Truth of Life without the "I," the end of suffering, the end of illusion, the end of ignorance. Okay?

GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel who left the following comment: "Master, I live in constant fear of the future, of lack of money, of getting sick. How can I find God to dissolve these fears?"

MG: Notice this. There is, once again, the idea. This is the thing present within us, the confusion we find ourselves in: the idea of ??overcoming fears. It comes back again and again. And here your proposal is to find God to overcome fears.

See, there is a Reality present here and now. It is not negligent. It is not absent. It is not missing. It is here and now. This Reality is Life. This Life is Divine Truth. It is already present.

So, here, the first point to be investigated is that you cannot find God. He is a present Reality, but He does not show Himself present to the "I," to the ego, to the person. Therefore, freeing oneself from fear requires investigating the structure and nature of fear itself.

When we get to the root of fear, we realize that the structure of fear, the root of fear, is ignorance about who we are, about the truth of this "me," of this "I." When there is awareness of this, clarity, when there is a precision of vision, when Reality reveals itself, this ignorance ends.

This is the end of the root of ignorance, which is the basis of fear. Therefore, you do not have an encounter with God. You have a revelation of God's Truth here and now, when this sense of "I" is gone, when this "person" is no longer present.

Then, we no longer have the sense of separation. The person sees themselves as a separate element of life, separate from others, separate from God. This separation produces and sustains the various forms of fear. Fear is, in fact, the presence of ignorance.

When thought is present, projecting itself into the future, based on the illusion of someone here, to experience a bad, unpleasant, unhappy, or complicated future, it produces this internal state of suffering that we call fear.

However, this state is present because of the presence of thought projecting itself from the idea of ??this "I," which is also the presence of a thought. As long as you see yourself as someone, as a person, you are sustaining your psychological existence in the movement of thought.

This psychological existence, which is the movement of thought, projecting itself into the future in a bad, negative, unpleasant way, is the presence of fear. Therefore, this fear is present because of ignorance.

The awareness of the truth about this game of thought, creating this thinker and their future, this experiencer with their experience of the psychological tomorrow; seeing this game is freeing oneself from ignorance. When there is no ignorance, Reality reveals itself. Reality is the Truth of God.

Thus, you do not have an encounter with God. God reveals Himself when the "I" is gone, when the thinker, the experiencer, when the thought model, which is the psychological conditioning model we carry, is no longer present.

Therefore, the Truth about That which is You is the Truth of Life when illusion is not, when ignorance is not. Then, there is no more fear, no more various fears. In reality, any and all forms of suffering dissolve.

The presence of suffering is the presence of the sufferer, just as the presence of thought is the presence of the thinker, of the experiencer's experience.

There is a Reality here and now, present, revealing itself. It is the Reality of this Being, it is the Reality about You. Clearly, this requires work, work on oneself, a deep engagement with this self-discovery, with this clarity, with this vision, with this perception.

It is not someone having this perception, vision, or clarity. It is the clarity here, due to the presence of this vision about oneself, that ends the "I," that ends the illusion of separation. So, Truth is present, Truth reveals itself, and It is here and now as Supreme Bliss, Love, Freedom. Okay?

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel, who makes the following comment: "Master, how can we be aware of thoughts without becoming confused with them?"

MG: Notice your question. Your question is how to avoid becoming confused with thoughts. Look, Gilson, there's only one real way to do this: by becoming aware of thought. It's necessary to bring to this moment a gaze, a perception, an attention that's completely different from what we usually have.

In general, when you perceive, you perceive to like or dislike, to accept or reject, to appreciate or set aside. So, we are always taking a position in the moment of perception. It's, in fact, the perceiver present. It's a perception from a perceiver.

Here, perception is the gaze, it's becoming aware, it's becoming aware without interfering. This is the quality of perception that makes you aware of the play of thought.

For a long time, in fact, throughout your entire life, when a thought arises within you, what it has done is give you an identity behind it. That's what thought has done. And it's been going on like this for a long time.

So, we're addicted to the model of being someone. "Someone" thinking. When a thought arises in your head, behind thought there's already the sensation of the thinker. This comes with the package. It's automatic, it's something mechanical, unconscious.

So, we're constantly identifying with thought, confusing ourselves with thought, when we like it or dislike it, when we want more of thought or don't want it with us. Therefore, the addiction, the force of habit, is to always continue affirming the presence of the thinker, the perceiver.

Here, the invitation is to bring into this moment the gaze without the observer, the perception without the perceiver. It's to bring the awareness of thinking without the thinker. Then, the game of habit, of addiction, of the continuity of the "I," of the continuity of the "person" becomes clear.

And, immediately, something happens. Because, once again, the game is shown, but there's no one else to engage in the game. There's no one else to engage with the game. So, a shift occurs in this structure.

The model of thought in us, of feeling, of sensation, is always, constantly placing someone in the process, someone getting involved. This someone is the "me," the person.

So, what is this looking, perceiving, becoming aware of? It's the "realization." That's the way! It gives you a clear vision of how the movement of feelings, emotions, and sensations takes place, when you're with him or her, talking to your husband, your wife, your coworker, or anyone else.

It gives you insight into your reactions, here and now: the feeling, what's behind the look, what's behind the tone of voice you're using. It shows you internal states that you're becoming aware of here and now, for the first time-like anxiety, or worry, or fear.

And this gaze is enough. It's not meant to interfere with it, this observation is enough. Then, a new energy emerges: an energy of attention, of awareness, of presence. This transforms this moment into a moment of Meditation.

It is no longer that old moment of unconsciousness, of mechanicity, of automatic response, of memory, of reaction, where the sense of "I" is present, where the ego is involved, there, without any awareness of how it is happening, of how it is processed.

At that moment, this pattern is broken. There is a break with the model of desire, of fear, of choice, of worry, of the intention to obtain something from him or her, or of fearing him or her. Then, Something is now present; this Something reveals itself as the presence of Meditation.

There is, indeed, in that instant, the end to this identity, which is the thinker. There is, then, the presence of this Freedom, this Awareness of Being, this Vision of Life, free from the sense of "I," the sense of ego, the sense of the thinker.

Thus, there is a break with the model of thought, as well as of feeling, emotion, and sensation, in this freedom to flow with the moment, to flow with the present moment, without "someone" here, in this moment.

So, the foundation is Self-awareness, and the result is the presence of Meditation. Okay?

GC: Gratitude, gratitude, Master. Our time is over now. Gratitude for this videocast.

And for those of you who are watching the video to the end and truly wish to experience these truths, we invite you to participate in the intensive weekend meetings that Master Gualberto offers.

In these meetings, in addition to the Master answering our questions directly, something much more powerful, much more transformative, happens: because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, he shares a State of Presence, an Energy Field around him.

And, in these meetings, we end up being carried by this Field of Presence of Master. And, by spontaneously and effortlessly being carried, we enter a meditative state. We can gain a real insight into the topics discussed here on the channel.

So, here's the invitation. In the first pinned comment, there's the WhatsApp link to join these meetings. Also, leave comments here, asking questions for us to bring to future videocasts.

Like the video and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. And, Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.
