GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast; Master Gualberto is here with us again. Thank you, Master, for being here. Today I'm going to read an excerpt from Joel Goldsmith's book called "The Heart of Mysticism." In an excerpt from this book, Master, Joel makes the following comment: "It is not your knowledge, your wisdom, or your understanding. It is God's." On this subject, can the Master share his vision of what wisdom, knowledge, and intelligence are?
MG: Gilson, there is only one way to truly approach life, and that is through Wisdom. We can have this common approach to the experience of life as it happens based on the knowledge we have acquired. In general, we mistake this knowledge - see, there is a difference between the Truth of Wisdom, of Real Intelligence, and what we call "intelligence," linked to this background of knowledge we have acquired and the experiences we have gone through. It is very common, in life, to acquire knowledge through experience; or through knowledge, based on knowledge, to acquire new experiences. That only gives us, in life, an approach to life in this so-called "intelligence" we know.
Notice, human beings are very intelligent; we are creatures capable of great achievements. That has been proven over the centuries, especially in these last centuries, in these last hundred years, the achievements and conquests of this intelligence within us have already become very clear. So, we have great intelligence, but an intelligence that is based on knowledge and experience. Here, when we deal with you about Truth, Wisdom, we need a new quality of intelligence, which is not the intelligence of knowledge, which is not the intelligence of experience, which is not the intelligence based on thought. Note that all our knowledge is based on thought; all our experience is, in reality, knowledge, which is thought.
Now, notice, despite all these achievements, Gilson, we continue, as human beings, despite all the comfort, convenience, efficiency, and capacity - we now have resources in medical science, in fast means of transportation, we have the presence of computer mechanics, the ability of robots, and so on - we have accomplished wonders, but from a psychological viewpoint, internally, we continue to be anxious, full of anguish, worries, we have countless forms of fear, the various conflicts present within us, created by these contradictions of desires. We desire things that we do not want to desire. We know that it will create problems for us, we do not want to have that desire, and yet the desire is there. So, there is a contradiction in wanting for the sake of desire and, at the same time, not wanting to have that desire because of the problems it can cause.
Thus, we have conflicts of these contradictions of desires, we have countless fears, our inability to deal with people... We are always hurting each other, we are always offending each other, creating annoyance and inconvenience for him or her. We suffer from anxiety, insomnia, depression, we suffer from the pain of loneliness, we have various forms of psychic suffering present in each one of us, and this scientific and technological intelligence has not solved it. Yes, the pharmaceutical industry has created medications, but these medications are palliatives. That does not essentially solve the problem in each one of us, which is the problem of the "I," of the ego. It is the ego that is suffering. So, in the midst of all the comfort, driving a nice car, internally we are distressed, worried, and afraid.
So, we have advanced a lot technologically, scientifically, but psychologically we continue to be unhappy, with problems, in suffering, because we lack the vision of Reality, which is the vision of God. And the vision of God does not come through thought, through knowledge, or through experience. The vision of God comes through the Reality of Intelligence, this Reality of Intelligence is something present when there is, precisely, the emptying of this psychological content, which has sustained in us the illusion of an identity - which is the "I," "me," the ego - that sees itself separate from life itself, that sees itself separate from God. Can we have, in life, an approach to Intelligence? I refer to this Real Intelligence, which eliminates fear from each one of us, and the various forms of worries, which puts an end to the continuity of problems. Can we have a brain free of problems, free of conflicts, disorder, and suffering? That requires the presence of Intelligence, this Divine Intelligence, this Intelligence of God. This is what brings us closer to Wisdom.
Here, the question is: How to realize Wisdom in life. The presence of Wisdom is not the presence, I repeat, of knowledge and experience. The presence of Wisdom is the presence of the Truth about us. Only when you become aware of how you function, how the mind works, does it become possible to go beyond the mind, beyond this "me," this "I." Then, we have the blossoming of Wisdom, the blossoming of Truth, the Truth of God. Then, it becomes possible, in this life, to see what it represents. But now it is clear that there is no separation between you and life itself, because the sense of separation is no longer present. That is Wisdom! Note, it is not something you acquire by reading books, studying, or a teacher can tell you. You cannot discover the Truth about yourself from someone, from another. Only by having an approach to Self-Awareness do we have the basis for the awareness of God, which is Wisdom. And a life in Wisdom is a life in Love, in Peace, in Freedom. We have the presence of Happiness when the Reality of God blossoms, when the Truth of your Being emerges.
It is in this sense that we use the expression "Awakening of Consciousness" or "Spiritual Enlightenment" here. It is the Reality of this Truth that has blossomed, that is here and now, revealing itself in life, as the awareness of your Being. That is Wisdom. So, the Truth about Wisdom is the Truth about this Divine Intelligence. While, on the one hand, we have the presence of knowledge, based on thought and experience, regarding wisdom, what we have is the presence of this Intelligence, which is Divine Intelligence. You cannot learn this outside. This new learning about yourself is what gives you the vision of this Intelligence and this Divine blossoming. This is what we work on here, with you.
GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber here on the channel, which is the following: "Master, how do I get to know myself?"
MG: The comprehension, Gilson, just comprehending your reactions, that's all we need. When you have a thought, you don't become aware it's there, but you don't have just one; for a minute, an hour, five minutes, fifteen minutes. Note, every moment we have thoughts, but we are not aware of them. A thought arises and you don't become aware of it. It brings a sensation, it brings a feeling, it brings a state, your emotional state changes, your state of feeling changes, due to the presence of this thought, this feeling. So, we are constantly being touched by thoughts, feelings, emotions, within our relationships with people, with visual perceptions of environments, in this contact with ourselves, and we don't become aware of it.
So, what does it mean to have a revelation of the Truth about who we are? It means becoming aware of these reactions when they arise. Thus, every minute of every hour of the day, we have the opportunity to observe our reactions, what is happening here. When you look at someone, you look from the perspective of your thoughts and you don't become aware of that, at that moment, you are evaluating, accepting, comparing, liking, disliking, judging. This is something automatic, mechanical, unconscious, because of the presence of thought within you. You are not with him or her, you are with the thought about him or her, and you don't become aware of it. Becoming aware of our reactions, notice, is not something so simple. It requires, for this moment - and it is only this moment, you cannot postpone it, it is for this moment - it requires, at this moment, attention to these internal reactions that are happening within you, in this contact with him or her. Just as in this contact with yourself, with what is happening here and now.
Thus, what is this approach to Self-Awareness? It is, at this moment, an attention that looks at this thought, this feeling, this emotion, this sensation when it arises, without interfering with it. Looking at it and becoming aware of it is getting closer to Self-Awareness. This is interesting: the real way to approach Meditation requires the presence of Self-Awareness, and the presence of Self-Awareness requires this attention to this reaction that arises here and now. No one has ever told us about this! You are the age you are today, but you have never become aware of how you function, psychologically. And if you are not aware of this, and if you do not become aware of it, you will never break away from this psychological condition of identifying, in a mechanical, unconscious way, without any perception of yourself, of these states.
So, we are constantly responding to life in our relations with people, with ourselves, with what arises, with what happens, in a completely unconscious way, without any Freedom, because we lack an approach to Self-Awareness. And if this is not present, this awareness that reveals the Truth of your Being beyond the "I," beyond the ego, does not show itself, which is the awareness of Meditation. You need to have an approach to Self-Awareness, to have an approach to the Truth about Meditation, then this space opens up, free from the "I," free from the ego, where what is outside the egoic mind is revealed, outside this consciousness that is the egoic consciousness.
Discovering contact with life without this element that comes from the past, which is the "I," "me," the ego, requires the presence of Meditation. That is why we have meetings where we work on this with you. They are online meetings, in person, retreats. Discovering what it is to live free from the egoic mind, free from this mind of the "I," from this movement of thought, for a contact with the present moment, free from the past. Then, the Truth of life is revealed, the Beauty of Love, this Grace and this indescribable, unnamable thing, which is beyond thought, beyond imagination. I refer to this Truth of God.
GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel. He asks the following question: "Master, how can we do self-investigation of the 'I' in our daily lives?"
MG: Notice, this question of yours has just been posed here, the answer to it. This investigation is not something that thought constructs, it is just this look without interfering with the movement of thought itself, it is the look without interfering with the movement of feeling or emotion. Try to look at someone, for example, without their past. See, you will be faced with an extraordinary challenge. Looking at someone without their past means looking at them without the thought you have about them. It requires the presence of attention in this look, which eliminates the past. In general, all the contact we have with life at this moment is contact from the past, from memory, from thought. A contact with this moment, with this instant, requires the presence of a look free from this image, this frame, this memory, this recollection. Is it possible to have contact with him or her, without the image you have of him or her? The answer to that is: yes! When you discover what it is to look, without interfering with that look and you do not interfere with that look, when you learn what it is to look without that observer, without that thinker, without that experiencer of the image.
Our entire model of life during all these years has always been that. We are always being personal within relations, because we are always putting this element that comes from the past, this "me," this "I," to like, to dislike, to evaluate, to compare, to judge. to want something from him or her, or to get rid of his or her presence. We do not know how to get in touch with life at this moment without the past, because we are too addicted to this model of being the experiencer, the observer, the thinker. And here we invite you to learn to look without the past, to look without the "I." That is Self-Awareness! Then, a new quality of performance, of action, of movement, will happen and, certainly, this "me," this "I," will not be present. This is when the brain quiets down, the mind becomes silent, and this space free from the past is present.
So, here, at this instant, at this moment, there is a contact with Meditation. And once Meditation is present, once Meditation reveals itself, there is a new fragrance in this relation. It is no longer a relation between images, you no longer have an image of him or her. In general, in our contacts with people, between people, the person is an image, the image you have of who you are, the image you bring of who the other is. Here we have the end for this in this look, in this becoming aware, in this perception. You are asking how to do this self-investigation. We put it here for you: become aware of your reactions. When a thought arises, an emotion, a sensation. look at it, but it is the look without this "I," it is observation without this observer, it is becoming aware without someone in this awareness. Try this!
The real way to approach life is through life with life. And you are life in your Being, when the past is not present. Thus, your contact with him or her is contact with life, with life when the "I" is not present, when this feeling, the thought of someone who lives in this wanting, not wanting, liking, not liking, is no longer present. We need to find out, in life, what life is without the "I," what life is without the ego, what life is free from the past. As it has been said, there is a fragrance, there is something new in this space, when it is not occupied with the model of thought, comparison, judgment, evaluation, of this liking and disliking. Unless this becomes clear in our lives, we will never know the Truth of Happiness, Love and Peace. Everything we have experienced in this sense of the "I" is the approach of sensations fulfilment; something mixed with pleasure where pain is present; with this so-called "love," there is jealousy, possession, dependence, some level of suffering. Here we are working on this together. The awareness of your Being is the awareness of Love, it is the awareness of Happiness, it is the awareness of God.
GC: Thank you, Master, our time is over. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who are watching the videocast until the end and want to experience these Truths, we invite you to participate in the meetings that Master Gualberto offers. These are intensive weekend meetings. They are available online, in person, and even multi-day retreats. In these meetings, Master Gualberto answers our questions directly, and much more than that. Because the Master already lives in this Awakened state of Consciousness, he lives in this state of Presence, and this Presence is a very strong energy field. And in these meetings, we end up riding along on this energy field of the Master, and it helps us a lot to comprehend what is beyond intellectual understanding, it helps us to enter spontaneously - through this Power of Presence in the Master - into a state of Meditation.
So, here's the invitation. In the first pinned comment, there's the WhatsApp link to participate in these meetings. Also, go ahead, give a like to the video, subscribe to the channel, and leave comments here, bringing more questions for us to bring to the next videocasts. And Master, once again, thank you for the videocast.
