Thought and time | The egoic identity | The conscious union with God | Joel Goldsmith | Advaita

The subject is thought and time.

The existence of the “I,” the existence of that “person,” we mistake ourselves for, is something present in time.

Our work together is to discover the ultimate Truth about who we are. There’s a Truth about who we are, and that Truth transcends our thinking, our feeling, and our actions.

Our thinking, our feeling, and our action are something that occurs in time and is based on this movement, which is the movement of thought in us. We are, biologically and psychologically, the result of yesterday, and many “yesterdays” before that “yesterday.” We are the result of time, physically and psychologically.

So, the person we appear to be, the person we are at this moment… As long as this “Ultimate non-Truth” prevails, which is the Truth of our Being, the Truth of our Divine Identity… As long as This doesn’t show itself, what has become shown, presented, is this “entity,” this “person” – the “person” we mistake ourselves for. It lives in this thinking, feeling, and action, and this is the result of the past.

For many of us, our life here, at this present moment, is just a reaction to the past. Those who Realized their Being Realized the Consciousness of the Truth about themselves. They are no longer moving in that time, in that psychological time, that inner conditioning model of personal identity – I’ve been calling it the egoic identity.

Thus, the Understanding of Truth, the Awakening, and the Realization of God, is the end for the past, for that psychological past. Biologically, we are the result of that past, and psychologically, we are the result of that past. However, this psychological past can end, and it needs to. Only then can that Reality of Being Consciousness, of Pure Consciousness, which is the Divine Truth of your Essential Nature, be present. Then, that’s when we stop living in the past to be present now. This “now” necessarily implies this “here.”

Life, this way, is Life as It is, without further contradiction, conflict or suffering, because there’s no past.

So, as separate entities, as people, carrying this “I” – which in psychology is called the ego – we’re always carrying this weight of the past, trying to give this present moment an impossible meaning. Life is something happening here and now, at this instant, this moment. There’s no past and yet we’re dealing with this moment from the viewpoint of memory, of that “yesterday” and those thousands of “yesterdays” before that “yesterday.” So, we are this result of time, psychologically. This is the egoic identity, the sense of “I.”

And where does thought come in? Thought is that element in us which is memory. All your thinking, acting, and feeling are based on memory. That memory is thought; this thought is this time that sustains the existence of an identity separate from Life, from the Whole, from Existence. This sense of separateness is the sense of duality.

Our work together is to break away from that sense of separateness, that duality. Duality is this mistaken notion of an “I” present here and now. That “I” is that memory, which is the past, thought. Life is something present and there’s no “I,” no “entity” present in it. An “entity” is a concept, a belief, an idea, a memory, or a set of memories. So, our relationships with others, with the world, with life, all of it, when based on that, are based on contradiction, on suffering, on conflict.

Observe the psychological restlessness within you. To break away from this model, you need to observe yourself, to become aware of this present model, of how you function. Noticing this model of thinking, feeling, and acting based on memory, looking at it, observing it, getting closer, and seeing it… When you do this, you bring into focus, in evidence, the Light of Consciousness. When you continue automatically, mechanically, and unconsciously, in this model of thinking, feeling, and acting, what’s present is just this reaction, which is the past, unconsciousness, and this is perpetuated, continued, it doesn't end.

We can create superficial and apparent modifications in this “I,” in this egoic identity, and this is what human beings have been doing. So, they are very concerned about personal development. They believe they need to develop as a person, and personal development is nothing more than a modification, a perpetuation, a continuation of that old egoic identity. Accomplishing goals, due to this development, doesn’t represent the Truth of your Being and therefore doesn’t represent Love, Peace, Freedom, and Happiness. Only the Realization of God, the Realization of your Being, the Realization of that Being-Consciousness, which is this Ultimate Truth about who You really are, represents the end of all search.

All of this mess that has been our lives is within this framework of duality. As long as there is no end to this duality, that is, Non-Duality... Non-Duality is also called Advaita – this is straight from the Vedas, from the Indian scriptures. It’s there in the Vedas, in the last part of the Vedas, Advaita Vedanta, Non-Duality. Your Being is the only Reality of all Existence, of all Manifestation. So, this is Oneness, this is your Conscious Oneness. It is the same direct path as Ramana Maharshi, which is Advaita Vedanta.

The language that the Sages and the Realized Beings use may be different, but they are all pointing to the same vision, to the same experience – this pointing to that Truth of Being, to that Truth we are. This Reality is the end of this psychological disorder, this psychological confusion, it is the end of this sense of separateness – what, here on the channel, I’ve called egoic consciousness, mental consciousness.

The Truth is the One that is within each one of us as Pure Consciousness. This is something that transcends language, transcends speech.

Here, Direct Vision, Direct Perception of Reality is What becomes fundamental for each one of us. So, it breaks away from psychological thinking. The breaking up of this thought is the breaking up of time. Then, there’s a break with this illusion of time, this past, this psychological past. It’s the illusion of living here and now as a separate entity, apart from this present moment, this “now,” that puts you in that psychological time, which is the past that thought sustains.

So, people live, in general, here and now, unaware of this “now,” of the beauty of this moment, of this Consciousness, this Being, this Divine Reality, this Oneness, this Conscious Oneness, this Consciousness of the Presence of God. This Consciousness of the Divine Presence, this Consciousness of the Presence of God, is the Consciousness of your Being.

Hence, they live in the past or the future, psychologically. Internally, they are always projecting themselves into the future, based on that past, which is memory. This memory is what constitutes the egoic identity. So, they are identifying themselves with what they are not, they are mistaking themselves for what they are not, they are mistaking themselves for this “I.” They mistake themselves for what they are not; they mistake themselves for this ego-identity, for this false center, this false “I.”

I want to invite you to a Free Life, in Love, Freedom, and Happiness… to the Conscious Union with God, in the language of Joel Goldsmith. There’s a life free from this sense of separateness, this sense of duality.

Ok? This is the subject here on our channel. If this is something that makes sense to you, leave your “like” there, and subscribe to the channel... I want to remind you: we have online and face-to-face meetings, and also retreats, where we work with those who approach. Ok?

Here’s the invitation and see you next meeting.
