Joel Goldsmith | Conscious Union with God | What is Attention? | Marcos Gualberto

GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast. Once again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you, Master, for being here. Today I will read an excerpt from a book by Joel Goldsmith called "Conscious Union with God." In an excerpt from this book, Master, Joel makes the following comment: "Bring your attention again and again, and as many times as you lose that focus, I will gently bring it back." Well, on this issue of attention, can the Master share his vision on what attention is?

MG: Gilson, this issue of attention is one that, when investigated, makes us comprehend the reality of what is present. It is the presence of attention that brings us closer, precisely, to life as it is happening. We do not have a direct look at life as it happens, because we lack this direct perception. We lack this direct proximity to this given thing, because we lack attention. Sometimes we express attention; when something arouses our interest, we look at it. In this look, it occurs naturally, because of this interest in it, a complete attention at that moment. So, we are before that in attention. We spend our lives, Gilson, in fact, inattentive. We do not pay attention to what is present here, neither externally nor internally. This moment of interest in a given thing brings about a moment in which we are whole, in which we are complete, there, in that given situation; it is when we are attentive.

Therefore, the presence of attention is fundamental. We do not know ourselves, due to the absence of this attention. We spend the day, for example, loaded with thoughts, heavy, burdensome thoughts, overloaded with ideas, opinions, judgments, beliefs... as well as feelings, emotions, sensations. And, in general, in this form of consciousness, which is the consciousness that we have, we do not bring attention to this moment. This is what gives us this form of consciousness that we are, that we express, that we manifest ourselves to be. This form of consciousness in us is unconsciousness... We are not aware of thoughts happening in us. Feelings, emotions are processed - as well as every type of response that we are giving to life at this moment - generally all of this occurs unconsciously. It is just an automatic response, it is just a mechanical response! This response in us is something that comes from the past.

Psychologically, internally, we are the result of memory. The experiences we have gone through have given us this formation - this formation is the formation of the "I." Thus, the way we respond to life is, invariably, the form of the past, because it is the way of remembrance, it is the way, it is in the format of past experiences, and this response is automatic, it is unconscious, it is mechanical. We do not know how to deal with the present moment, because we are not, at this moment, aware of what is here. It is just the automatic way of responding, it is just the mechanical, unconscious way of the action of thought, feeling, and emotion. At times, as I said a while ago, we have some interest in this moment, in this instant. So, at times, this instant causes us a deep, significant interest. When this happens, a moment of attention naturally occurs.

When you are walking in a park, looking at everything there. when you are walking in a forest, hiking, on a riverbank or sitting on the beach. these moments naturally awaken in us the interest to look, to observe, to stay with the details, with the vision, in such a present way that there is no separation, because our whole heart is there, our whole mind is there, our whole being is there, in this look at these details. So, in that moment, there is an internal level of perception. This perception is a perception where there is no longer a separation between the "I" who observes and what is there, being observed. Real interest brings this attention to the point that what is there is the only thing. In that moment, there is a contact; in that contact, the sense of "I" disappears and there is this look, this perception, without separation, without division. That moment is the moment of attention.

In life, we need to awaken to attention, we need to become aware of what is present here, in this moment. It is in this contact, it is in this closeness, that we push away ideas. There is no space in this moment, because there is no separation, there is no division between you and what is present there. Note that this is very easy to happen and happens very frequently when we are in contact with nature. When you are in front of a tree or a flower, in a garden or in an open field, that solitary flower attracts your attention. So, in this contact with nature, this happens very often, but we do not pay the same attention to what is happening here, inside each one of us.

When you have a thought pattern, if it is pleasant, pleasurable, comforting, or encouraging, at that moment your attention does not exist, because you are so involved with thought, so identified with thought that there is a condition of unconsciousness for this quality of thought. There is no attention to this reaction. By force of habit, we have a very strong tendency to confuse ourselves, to identify with ourselves, to value the thought that gives us pleasure, the mental image that gives us pleasure. In this moment of identification with thought, this enjoyment of this quality of memory, of remembrance, of image - because thought is this - we are in this consciousness of the "I," this egoic consciousness.

This also applies to bad thoughts. When they are unpleasant, instead of identifying with them, we reject them. We want to get rid of these bad, unpleasant images, these remembrances, these recollections, these thoughts. And, in this moment, this separation, this division occurs. Therefore, we are either identified with thought or rejecting thoughts, and in both ways, we are feeding the condition of unconsciousness. There is no attention to this reaction, there is no attention to this instant, to this moment. Whether it is a thought, a feeling. later it becomes an emotion, a form of expression of this feeling, and all of this happens to us in an unconscious, mechanical way.

However, when there is this attention, this consciousness, there is a release of this consciousness of the "I," there is a release of this unconsciousness. There is neither identification with thought, nor rejection of thought, nor feeling or emotion. There is only one look, a gaze free from the "I," a gaze free from this separation. The truth of this attention brings you closer to Self-awareness, and Self-awareness reveals Meditation to you. This is what we have worked on here and shown you here: how, in this life, to assume the Truth about your Being, about That which you are in this Real Consciousness, in this true Consciousness that is this attention, which is the basis of Self-awareness and Meditation, makes it possible. Okay?

GC: Master, we have a question from a subscriber on the channel. Maria das Graças makes the following comment and asks: "So, there is no such thing as Awakened one, we are born sleeping and we die sleeping. What is life? Very complicated! In fact, a great confusion that no one can explain, because no one has access to and true knowledge. In Divine Consciousness we are individuals with unique thoughts."

MG: Gilson, there is some confusion here in this question: We are born sleeping, we live sleeping and we die sleeping in this unconsciousness, in this model of egoic consciousness, of consciousness of the "I." So, in this model of this egoic mind, of this unconsciousness, what life is, is confusion! So, what is life in this state of unconsciousness? Suffering, confusion! We have to become aware of what is, in order to naturally go beyond this. For what is life, in this life of the "I"? Envy, ambition, conflict present in these desires, the presence of fear, all of this is present in life as it is in this egoic condition. That is not what we are putting here, for you. We need to become aware of what is, in order to understand what is, and that is the end of this condition of unconsciousness. Your Natural State of Being is Awake. Yes, it is Awake, it is free from this unconsciousness, it is free from this dream, it is free from what is in this particular life of the "I." Therefore, there is Real life, Real life as it is, but in this sense of "I" we are unaware of it, we are living a life created by thought, fed by this condition of unconsciousness. So, this life as it is, the life that is as it is in the ego, is what we need to free ourselves from, along with this sense of "I," because it is not natural. We are faced with ordinary life, ordinary thought, ordinary feeling, ordinary responses to this pattern of life that we know.

Gilson, we need to get closer to life. Yes, to comprehend how it is, to go beyond what it is, to the awareness of Real Divine Life, the Real Life of God, the Real Life of this Being. Therefore, Awakening in this life is the only thing that matters. Going beyond this internal, psychological, emotional, sentimental condition of egoic existence, where all this movement within us is egocentric movement. The movement that separates itself from life as it happens, because we are not dealing with life as it really is, but rather as thought idealizes it. This idealization of thought is giving us life as it appears to be, as it seems to be, as it is, but we are faced with this artificial model of life, which is the model of separation. There is the presence of this "I," this "me;" this person and life. There is no such thing as a separation between this "I" and life; Truth is life. But life, being Truth, is the presence of this Being, of this Divine Reality. This is the Awakened State, this is the Awakened State. So, this confusion in thought is something that disappears when there is this Awareness of Truth, this Divine Awareness, this Awareness of God.

This contact with life is a possible contact when this separation no longer exists. We are not in contact with life; our contact with life is contact through thought. We do not recognize life, we are always in the recognition of thought; every form of recognition is based on the past. We believe that we are in contact with our wife, but in fact, we are in contact with the image we have of her. in contact with our husband, with our family, with the world around us. It is through the curtain of thought, it is through the way in which thought represents the husband, the wife, the family, the world. So, there is no real contact - the real contact is that which is present when the "I" is not. So, in that moment, there is no separation. This is Awakening, this is your Natural State, free from the "I," free from the ego. Okay?

GC: Master, we have another question from another subscriber here on the channel. José asks the following question: "And what is this dream for? And then? . And why dreaming?"

MG: Your question is: "What is this dream for?" I ask you: What is this dream for? Why is this dream present? Because we have been conditioned to a way of responding to the instant, to the present moment, within the model of thought. Since thought is a response that comes from the past, all our response from thought is from an element that is within that experience, which is the experiencer, which is the thinker. That is what makes the dream possible. That is what makes the dream happen. Yes, it is a good question: "And what is this dream for?" Really, what is the need to live in this psychological condition of thought pattern, where we constantly continue such an artificial life as this, which is the life of separation? And you keep asking: "And then what? Why continue in this dream?" The Reality of life is the comprehension of the Beauty of this encounter with this moment, without the past. That is the end of the dream!

In these meetings, we are working on exactly this with you: having a clear comprehension that life consists of what it is. It is not what thought says it is, what a feeling involved with thought says it is, what an emotion involved with feeling - which, in turn, this feeling is involved with thought - says it is. It is when, based on thought, our identity consists of this someone in feeling and in the expression of emotion, that this illusory identity is present, which sees itself separate from life - this is the condition of the dream. The encounter with the Reality of life is an encounter with Beauty, it is the presence of sensitivity that brings this intelligence in this encounter with the Beauty of life. This is what shows us the Reality of That which is here, free from the past, free from the experiencer, free from the thinker, free from the ego. This contact with Beauty is contact with Intelligence, which is contact with this sensitivity of a response to this moment without the past. This is how, in this encounter with Reality, That which is beyond the "I," beyond the ego, beyond all this movement of self-centeredness, of egocentric self-interest, is revealed.

Yes, there is no need to maintain this continuity of the dream - it ends when thought ceases. It is not about stopping thinking, it is about freeing oneself from conditioned thinking, from mechanical thinking, from psychological thinking, from the pattern of thought that gives foundation to this life of the "I," this life of the ego. Here in these encounters, our approach is to this vision of life, to this vision of Reality, to this vision of God. There is no dream in your Natural State of Being. This dream is in the model of thought, in this imagination of the "I," in this idea of ??someone who is living in this moment because he came from the past and is going to the future. All of this ends when illusion ends. All of this dissolves, all of this disappears. Life in this moment is the Truth of your Being, and there is no dream here. Okay?

GC: Thank you, Master, our time has come to an end. Thank you for this videocast. And for those of you who are following the videocast until the end and really want to have a real comprehension of these teachings, we invite you to participate in the meetings that Master Gualberto offers. These are intensive weekend meetings. They are available online, in person and also as retreats. In these meetings, in addition to the Master answering our questions directly, something much more impactful than that happens. Because the Master already lives in this Awakened State of Consciousness, He shares this State of Presence in which He lives. And in this sharing there is a Power, a Strength and a Grace, so that we are carried along by this Master's energy. And by taking this ride, spontaneously and naturally, we enter the meditative state, we silence our minds... So, here is the invitation. In the first comment, pinned, there is the WhatsApp link to be able to participate in these meetings. In addition, give a like to the video, subscribe to the channel and also leave comments here, bringing questions for the next videocasts. And once again, Master, thank you for the videocast.
