What is Moksha? | Atma Vichara Ramana Maharshi | How to deal with jealousy and insecurity? | Advaita

There are some issues in our lives that we don't pay attention to. We don't approach them to observe them. Thus, it's very common for us to go through life without reflecting on some issues that are actually fundamental to each of us.

So it would be important, at this point, for us to talk a little here about the matter of Freedom, for example. If there is something essential for each of us in this contact with life – and here, life represents anything, as well as contact with anyone or any situation – but if there is something fundamental, of real importance to all of us, it is the Presence of Freedom. For example, something fundamental in our contacts, that is generally absent, is the Presence of Love in relationships.

As here in this channel we are looking together at this matter of the Awakening of God, of the Blossoming of our True Nature, we are here investigating the matter of the Presence of the Truth of Love in our lives. And for us, as we don't know the Truth about that, we’ve made a great deal of confusion; a confusion due to the use or employment of expressions, such as the very expression “love,” or the expression “freedom.” So, if there's something here that we also need to get rid of, it is this inappropriate use of words.

When we use speech, such as here at the moment, we have to use expressions. And here the first recommendation for you is that you don't get hung up on a particular interpretation of the words we use here, as we generally do when we're listening to someone or reading a book. Our particular way of translating it, of interpreting it, is usually according to our background, according to our knowledge.

So, if we were to apply a little of this Freedom here – and it's Freedom that we're going to talk to you about, it's what we're going to talk about here at this meeting – the Freedom to listen to a word and investigate a new aspect of it, in this way, we would let go of our concepts, our prejudices, our particular translations we have of that given word, and this is fundamental here at these meetings. Even because we're frequently using words here, using the same expression and suddenly giving it a new meaning within the context.

So, it would be very interesting here, in this meeting, in this conversation between us, to look at these expressions together. For example, the expression “love,” in general, people translate it in a very peculiar, very particular way within a cultural context, as we generally do with most words.

For us, for example, what does love mean? Love means pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment, gratification, caressing, affection, and sex. Anything that can bring us pleasure within a relationship, we identify as the presence of love there.

What we don't perceive is that in this sense, as we put it and make use of this expression, there is a misunderstanding because we can have all of this, affection, pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment in the relationship and, even so, within that there is possession, there is insecurity, fear, control, jealousy, envy, exclusivism, emotional dependence, and it becomes very clear to each one of us that this is not the Truth of Love; it is the presence, exactly, of fear.

So, when we look for this so-called love in our relationships, it is possible that there is fear behind this so-called love. Then, we're calling love what is actually fear. Thus, here I'd like to touch base with you, examine this with you. Because we have many unresolved issues at this level, at the level of human relationships, of our relationships with others, with the world around us.

We don't understand what's going on inside each of us. We don't study ourselves, we don't investigate ourselves, and this sustains a quality of life where lies, illusions and, therefore, suffering are present. Thus, it is essential that we approach this issue of the Presence of Love here, at this meeting, at this moment. But there is no Presence of Love without Freedom.

So, I consider that pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment, affection and care are not the signs of the Presence of Love, but rather Freedom. If we have the Presence of Freedom, we do have the Presence of Love. Love is a flower that blooms in Freedom, in the field of Freedom, in the garden of Freedom. If there is no Freedom, there is no Love. We can have all this and it still isn't Love.

We're not saying that the presence of affection, care, satisfaction or pleasure in relationships is necessarily the presence of fear. What we are saying is that if Love is present, all this can exist, but Love flourishes in Freedom and not when fear is present. So, it's important for us to pay attention to this, to examine this.

The matter here is: how does this Freedom blossom? The flowering of this Freedom is the arising of this garden where the flower of Love also blooms. So, if we have the flowering of Freedom, we have the flowering of Love. And how does this Freedom become possible?

There is an Indian expression for this Freedom where Love blooms. The expression is Moksha. So, what is Moksha? That's the question. It's a beautiful Sanskrit word for this garden, for this Freedom. It's when Freedom is present, which is Moksha, which is Liberation or the Natural State of Spiritual Enlightenment or the Awakening of Consciousness. This is something that refers to that Natural and indescribable State free from fear, and therefore, from suffering, where the Truth of Love is present.

So, we need to discover, in life, what a free life is, in Freedom, where we have the Presence of this perfume, which is the perfume of Love. You see, this is not the life we live, the life of human beings. We live in stress, in anguish, in worries, within conflicts and desires, within internal contradictions between action and thought. We think of something and do something else, and then we feel a third thing about what we've done. Then, this is the internal, psychological state in each of us as human beings, of contradiction, where it is actually present, the prison of ignorance, illusion. If this is present, suffering is present.

My teacher was called Ramana Maharshi and he shared the Truth of Atma Vichara with everyone. So, Ramana Maharshi shared the awareness of this acknowledgement of Moksha, this acknowledgement of Freedom, how to allow the Revelation of this garden where Love flourishes. Ramana Maharshi's word Atma Vichara is a Sanskrit expression for self-inquiry, self-investigation. Here the expression can also be translated as self-observation.

The Truth of Freedom requires the presence of a space, a new space. Human beings have been looking for space. Everything in life happens within spaces. Right now, we're telling you: we don't have the Presence of Real Love without the presence of space, which is the space of Freedom.

Actions take place within spaces. If there is no space, there is no Freedom. The most precious asset we have in life, since life happens with actions, with events, with situations arising, the most precious asset is truly the Presence of Freedom. If you're serving time in prison, the most precious thing that we have, has been taken away from you, which is freedom.

When we don't have freedom, we have the presence of suffering, we have the absence of physical freedom or internal, psychological freedom. Human beings live in internal states of imprisonment. Thus, our external relationships, because of this internal psychological prison format in which we find ourselves, are conflicting relationships because they are relationships that occur without Freedom.

When a person is in this so-called love, for example, which is love as we generally know it, which is actually a love surrounded by the presence of fear, we don't have this garden of Freedom. And if this is present, confusion, disorder, problems are present.

It's fundamental for us to investigate all this in order to release this condition from our lives, to become aware of the Divine Reality that we bring, which is Moksha, which is Liberation, where Love is present. When people ask how to deal with jealousy and insecurity... Notice, the presence of jealousy is the presence of fear, worry, dependence, insecurity.

We don't have the Presence of the Truth of Love in our relationships when this is present, but this is what, in general, we as human beings call love. The presence of dependence is attachment, and insecurity, it is fear; the fear of not being in control, the desire to be able to control, the fear of being deceived, of being betrayed, of being abandoned. All of this is present in this so-called love as we know it, where we don't have the Truth of Freedom.

Here together we are inviting you to a free life, where this Freedom flourishes and Love establishes itself as life happening, as everything that arises, moment by moment. How, then, do we approach this space, since all we are looking for is, in fact, space in life?

Notice that stress is the absence of space, anxiety is the absence of space, depression is the absence of space, anguish is the absence of space, all these internal psychological states present in human beings, due to the presence of fear, this is the absence of space, and this is how human beings have lived, have been living for millennia, within this condition. So, we have a lot to investigate and talk about here with you.

We need to break with this condition, and what makes this possible is the vision of Atma Vichara, the awareness of approaching oneself through Self-Awareness. Discovering what it is to observe your reactions at this instant, at this moment, realizing how you function as a person, abandoning that, letting go of this “person” as you see yourself within the context of life, within the context of relationships. Abandon this “me,” this “I,” this “ego,” discover what it is to die at this moment to this illusion of this illusory identity, which lives within this small, narrow space, which is the space of the “me,” of the “ego.” This is the only space we know. This is the space of the observer, of the thinker, of the experiencer of their experiences.

GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast. Once again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you, Master, for your presence. Today, I will read an excerpt from Joel Goldsmith's book called “Spiritual Interpretation of Scripture.” In an excerpt from this book, Joel makes the following comment: “When we awaken from this dream world, we will see it as it is, and then we will be convinced that all is well.” Master, regarding this issue of dream… How to awaken from this dream?

MG: Gilson, see, this is exactly what we are doing here together, we are showing you how to awaken from this dream! However, this awakening from the dream requires, first of all, that you understand, very clearly, your real condition at this moment. And this is something very, very complicated, because we want to awaken from the dream, we want to leave the dream, but we are not aware of the truth of the dream. Have you ever noticed how difficult it is for us, within the dream, while the dream is being processed, to become aware that it is a dream? See, it is not that simple.

The thing is constructed in such a way, the dream is constructed in such a way… The dream is a construct of thought. Regarding this, no one doubts that what we have in a dream is just a movement of images that the mind is constructing. However, while the dream is present, we have no clear sensation that what is there is a construct of imagination, because everything is very real. Everything is organized in such a way that it seems real to us. No matter how many unimaginable things happen in the dream, at that moment it is very real. It gives you the shape of truth, of reality, of that world context.

So, you ask here: “How do I awaken from this dream?” You are not aware that you are dreaming until you wake up. Only when you wake up do you become aware that you had a dream, but you are not aware that you are dreaming while you are dreaming; when you wake up, you become aware. It’s all just hearsay that we are dreaming.

Follow this carefully. When we come across a statement like this, we start to believe that we are dreaming, or when we come across a book about Waking up, Awakening, or Enlightenment. After reading, we have the belief that we are dreaming, that we are sleeping, and now we say: “I have to wake up.” But note: all of this is still just a belief.

What we need, Gilson, is to become aware of the truth of the dream. The belief that we are dreaming is something most people have. Note that most of us have read many books. Some spend their entire lives reading about Self-awareness, Self-Realization, Liberation, the Awakening of Consciousness – there are many names – about the subject of Waking up, of Awakening from dream. So, we ask: “What should I do? How to awaken from the dream?”, but we do not have the truth of the awareness that we are, in fact, dreaming. The moment we become aware of this, Gilson, then we will no longer need to ask the question “how can I stop dreaming?” When you become aware that it is a dream, you no longer care. From the moment you become aware that this is a dream, you clearly say: “I don't care, this is a dream!”, and when you say that, you are already Awakened.

So, Gilson, it is not a matter of asking: “how can I stop dreaming?” Here, it is a matter of investigating the nature of the truth of what is happening to us here and now. If you become aware of this, you perceive the reality of the condition in which you find yourself, and, at that moment, there is a break with this condition, there is a break with this dream. That's why, Gilson, our emphasis here is not on theory, it is not on getting lost in a forest of words reading books, reading what Ramana left, what Buddha left, what the Sages left written. You can read that. We do something even worse: we read what others have read about the Sages and written too – they have read and written about the Sages. So, we can have first-hand information or second-hand information, but we always remain in the realm of theories, of words, lost in a forest of ideas. All of this is established in us as models of beliefs.

Now, we believe that we are asleep, but we are not aware of the truth of the dream, because we do not investigate, we do not study ourselves. So, to the question “how to awaken from the dream?”, become aware of the dream, become conscious of the movement of the dream present in you! Notice, for example, that the movement of thought in you is just a movement of memory, of remembrance, of recollections. There is no thinker present in this movement.

The idea of ​​this thinker is part of the dream, and we have been educated, conditioned to live in this belief, which is the belief that you think being the thinker, the one responsible for thoughts. See, this is within the dream model, but we do not realize it! The sense of someone feeling, the emotionalism of someone in the emotion is within the dream model. All of this is within this dream model! So, you become aware of the dream and the dream ends.

So, what is the real way, Gilson, of approaching the end of the dream? Leaving idea aside, concept aside, images about it aside, beliefs aside. Look directly at the model of present thought, feeling, emotion, the way you respond, in a reactive way, to actions that arise from thought. Because actions, in us, arise from thought, but what is thought? A model that comes from the past, which is the model of memory, reacting to this moment due to a stimulus, a challenge.

To realize that this reaction is sustaining an illusory present identity acting, doing something or neglecting and failing to do something. To become aware of your reactions and realize that these reactions are always, invariably, born from the illusion of a center that separates itself from experience and feels like the author of actions, the thinker of thoughts, the one moved by emotion... To become aware of the dream, Gilson, that's all! Become aware of the dream, bring to this moment an attention of pure observation of your reactions. Then, you wake up!

All our dedication, Gilson, in these videos and in these online meetings that we have on the weekends, where we are together on Saturday and Sunday, looking at this; that we have in online meetings, in-person meetings, in retreats... all of our involvement in this work is to, together, become aware of this, of our reactions. So, this is the end of the dream, because it is the end of this unconscious, mechanical movement of conditioning, of the reactive thought model, as I said a little while ago, something that comes from the past, which is always creating the illusion of someone present in this world model. This is the dream! Our meetings are for investigating this. As long as you do not become aware of the truth about yourself, do not become conscious of the own movement of thought, feeling, emotion, way of perceiving life, the dream will be present. It is when you become aware of the dream that it ends, and not when you simply talk, read or learn theoretically about the importance of the end of the dream.

GC: Master, we have a question here from a subscriber, who makes the following comment and asks: “Today, I only have this desire to Awaken. Do I also have to overcome this desire?”

MG: Once again, here we come across the importance of comprehending the dream. It is not about the desire to Awaken. This desire to Awaken, like any other desire, is within the dream. It is a desire! “I have the desire to Awaken. This, for me, is the most important thing.” That is what we affirm through the word. In volition, we desire, but this is still within the model of the dream. The desire to Awaken is not enough, and the desire to get rid of the desire to Awaken is not enough. So, here we have two things: the first is the desire to Awaken and the second is the desire to get rid of the desire to Awaken.

All of this is within the dream! While we dream, we talk about the end of the dream and we wish for the end of the dream. While we dream, we hear about it and someone tells us about the importance of going beyond desire, including the desire to stop dreaming. And this is our desire, but it is also within the dream. Here, the main element is the awareness of the dream. Put your heart, energy, disposition, in this direction of investigating the nature of the “I,” the nature of the mind, the nature of this structure – and here I refer to this egoic mind, this movement of thought, feeling, emotion.

Begin to become aware of your reactions at this moment. Do not worry about the question of desire, nor about Awakening, nor about getting rid of the desire to Awaken. Occupy yourself with a direct work of observation, of becoming aware of the truth about the dream, because we can have this desire to Awaken and the desire to get rid of the desire to Awaken – as I said a little while ago, in the first part of the talk – without any awareness of the truth of the dream. We are just believing that we are dreaming, but we are not aware of the truth about it!

The revelation of the truth of the dream, experientially, is what I have called “comprehension.” There is a clear difference between understanding something and comprehending it. You can understand car mechanics, because you have read several books, studied a lot about the subject… you are even capable of giving a lecture on it and, however, not being a mechanic capable of diagnosing a car breakdown. It is one thing for you to have the comprehension, it is quite another thing for you to have the understanding. After a few readings, I can explain to you, clearly, how to make a cake: all the ingredients, the amount of flour, yeast, eggs and everything else. But I have never made a cake! I can have an understanding, after reading a little about the subject, studying how to make a cake and giving you a lecture on it, based on that understanding. But I have never made a cake, you comprehend?

It is one thing for you to have the comprehension of what a baked cake really is, because you make the cake. You know... no, you make the cake, it happens, while the other person claims to know or knows the whole theory about it. Here, we need to have a comprehension of the dream for its end, and you become aware of this comprehension when you study, when you investigate, when you learn self-observation, to become aware of the whole process of this consciousness, which is the consciousness of the “I,” of this “me.”

So, don't worry about the idea of ​​stopping dreaming or the desire to stop dreaming, or the desire to get rid of the desire to stop dreaming. Get involved, instead, with direct work in the direction of investigation, of studying your reactions, and you will soon realize that this movement of duality, where there is this thinker thinking, this doer doing, this person moved by emotion, this one feeling in sensation, is nothing more than imagination, a model of thought construct. The revelation of this is the verification of the end of the dream, the end of the illusion of a present identity, here and now.

GC: Master, we have another question here, from another participant, the participant named Esther. She asks the following: “How can I understand this and get out of duality?”

MG: The end of duality requires the awareness of the model, the principle, the conditioning of duality, as we are explaining to you. It is based on awareness, clarity, and comprehension about everything that happens. It is necessary to become aware, to have a direct, clear, lucid, real look at duality. Becoming aware of what is false means going beyond what is false. When there is this light, everything is exposed, everything becomes clear. If there is no light, there is no clarity, there is no exposure.

Here, always, the true way is to discover what it means to learn about ourselves, about what is happening here, inside each one of us. This requires a look at oneself, in which there is no distraction, no waste of energy. In general, we are distracted, we have many distractions. Even if we have the intention, the desire, the will, we are very easily distracted. So, our great difficulty in ending duality, in Awakening, in ending the dream, our great difficulty is that we were programmed, conditioned, within a model of existing as human beings, involved in several other interests, within this model of dream, of egoic existence, and this distracts us, this produces an enormous waste of energy.

So, we do not have a real disposition for this study of ourselves, for direct work, for a disposition in the real direction of Awakening. So, we are here with you showing you that Awakening is possible in this life, but we have to give up our own idea, our own concept, our own belief, our own desire. It is by becoming aware of what is happening here and now that something becomes clear beyond this movement of wanting, of will, of desire, of mere knowledge about duality, of non-duality. Looking at yourself, becoming aware of what is happening inside each one of us: the only thing that really matters is exactly this! This basis is Self-awareness. This reveals Meditation to you, this reveals the Awareness of God, the Awareness of your Being.

When you have a true and profound approach to all this that is happening in you, with you, you stop theorizing, leaving behind concepts, leaving behind ideas, and you are in a state of self-discovery. Gilson, the basis for Wisdom, the basis for God-Realization, is the discovery of one's own “I,” the vision of the movement of this entire illusory center, in this format of egocentric activities and, naturally, of unconsciousness. This is the dream. Okay?

Atma Vichara Ramana Maharshi | How to achieve inner peace? | Spiritual intelligence | Self-inquiry

Here, the question is: how to achieve inner peace? We are going to talk to you today, here, now, in this instant, about the beauty of life free from conflict. We don't know what a life truly free from all forms of suffering is. And here on this channel, you always face this challenge, which is to investigate something about yourself that, in general, you don't see in the world out there. And your challenge here is to become aware that this is possible for you.

Now, here, for example, the subject is the end of suffering. How can we free ourselves from suffering? How can we achieve inner peace? What is the truth of a life free from confusion, problems, disorder and, of course, fear? Because all of this is part of suffering and all of this is part of conflict. So, how can we get closer to ourselves and become aware of this?

Note that in your relationships with people there is a kind of psychological background, internal, within you, that you are barely aware of, but it is present. And this background puts you in a state of alert that, in reality, is a form of fear. And when is this present and very clear? When, for example, you are reprimanded or someone calls your attention to something, or someone corrects you.

Have you ever noticed that we don't want to be corrected? We don't want our opinions, ideas and beliefs to be contradicted? So there is a certain internal expectation, a warning sign, a self-defense signal. And when this happens, we become upset, this arouses anger and conflict within us. So the conflict is already established, even without appearing, because the presence of fear is there. This is our psychological condition of being someone.

What are we doing here within this channel? We are investigating the truth of who we are to discover the possibility of knowing the Truth about ourselves. Thus, we have the truth about who we are and we also have the knowledge of Reality about ourselves. So, we have two things here.

This direct contact with this truth about who we are will reveal the presence of fear, pain, contradiction and conflict. Clarity about this, for this to happen, we have to become aware of the Truth through Self-awareness. This is what reveals this truth about who we are. So, this is the door to the Truth that is hidden behind what we are, which is the Divine Truth.

So we have an expression, a format, a way of being, while we also bring a hidden, unknown Reality of ourselves, but which is also present. But this Reality is unknown. So, a work of Revelation of what we are reveals to us That which is beyond the known, which is the nature of this Being, which is the nature of God.

Can we deal with each other without fear? This requires an understanding of this element in us, which is us, in fear. What is it constituted of? What is it made of? How does it make itself present today, here, in this life? This “my life” is the life of the person. Thus, it is the life of this pain, this setback, this conflict.

How can we break out of this condition? By breaking out of the person we are, towards the Truth of the Divine Reality that we carry, where this unknown Reality of our Real Being, of our True Being, is present. Here on this channel, we are telling you, very clearly, that you were not born to suffer, to be unhappy, to be in pain, to be in conflict, to be in pain.

You were born to Realize God, you were born to become aware of the Truth of That which is indescribable, unnameable, which is beyond this body, which is beyond this world, which is beyond this particular vision of life, where we live as frightened, egocentric, possessive, aggressive, violent creatures, in a movement of activity where self-interest is always producing suffering for ourselves and for others.

Thus, all this approach that we have to others, to this particular life that we have, is the approach of error. And why is this present? Because we are living in ignorance, and we have never come into direct contact with this ignorance. You cannot understand that which you do not approach. There is no way to become aware of something that you do not know.

It is necessary to get closer, this approach reveals the Truth about it to you. And when there is understanding of the Truth about it, this Truth brings you clarity, and this is the end of ignorance, it is the end of darkness, it is the end of illusion. So, we need to know ourselves, to know the truth that is processed within each one of us.

We need to have answers to questions like: why is fear here? Why is sadness here? Anguish, loneliness, this pain present in this existential void? Why is this format of desire and fear present here? We do not know ourselves. We do not know ourselves because we do not study ourselves, we do not learn about ourselves, we do not discover what it is to look at our reactions, thoughts, emotions, feelings, sensations, in contact with our husband, with our family, with the world around us, in contact with ourselves. We do not look, we do not get closer.

So, we lack this vision. The lack of this vision places us within this format of ignorance. Here we are, in life, for Happiness, I repeat, Freedom, Love, the knowledge of God. However, this requires Intelligence, the Presence of the Awakening of Intelligence. Here I refer to Spiritual Intelligence, to the Truth of the Revelation of this Divine Intelligence, which is the awareness of God.

When there is Awakening of Intelligence, there is clarity, lucidity in this Awakening, Real Life Revealing Itself. This condition of separation between you and Life, between you and God, between you and the other, this dissolves when there is an understanding, which is born of this Intelligence, that there is only one Reality present, and that this Reality is the Reality of God.

A wise man from southern India, named Ramana Maharshi, indicated to all those who approached him, in search of this Divine Reality, in this purpose of Awakening this Being, this Real Spiritual Intelligence, he indicated Atma Vichara – the famous Atma Vichara of Ramana Maharshi –, self-inquiry, the answer to the question “Who am I?”

Obviously, this requires, as I said a moment ago, a look, a “coming closer.” In this approach and looking directly at this internal movement that takes place within each one of us, here and now, in this instant, reveals this psychological condition of being someone, something that thought has produced and is sustaining, and in this sustaining there is fear, conflict, suffering. Because the truth of That which is You, free from this illusion of being someone, as you see yourself, as you feel you are, this Reality of your Essential Nature is the Divine Truth.

So, a direct look at this “me,” at this “I,” without any element that presents itself to judge, compare, evaluate, reject, criticize, do something with what is observed, just the look, the direct look, is Atma Vichara. So, this is the most direct way, according to Ramana Maharshi, to Realize God in this life.

This is what we are here on the channel working with you. So, the importance of Self-awareness lies in this approach to oneself, in this self-revelation, in this self-discovery, in the understanding of That which is outside of this fear, this conflict, this suffering. To become aware of God is to have the Revelation of this Being.

Divine Reality is indescribable, thought cannot reach it, cannot explain it. What you discover in this work that we are proposing here for you is that all confusion, all disorder, all problems consist of this feeling-thought-sensation “I,” and this is what is discarded by self-investigation, by this observation – as we have called it here on the channel –, by this way of looking without the “I,” without the observer, without the experimenter.

So, self-inquiry is this observing. Atma Vichara is this observing, and this discards the illusion for the Revelation of That which is present, which is this Peace, which is this Happiness, which is this Love. In this clarity, in this Wisdom, we no longer have this particular life of someone, but this Real Divine Life, which is the Real Life of God.

Atma Vichara Ramana Maharshi | Self-Inquiry | How to get rid of suffering?

I intend to investigate with you here, at this moment, this issue of how to get rid of suffering. Wherever there is any form of conflict, there will naturally be the presence of suffering. Now, here we come across something quite complicated, because if you look at your own life, you will realize that at some level, in some way, we always find some kind of conflict and these conflicts that arise in this or that area, in this or that way, are always producing suffering in our lives.

There is a very simple example that we can observe in our daily lives: these are the contacts we have with people. Our relationships are always marked or touched by conflict. That's because, due to differences of opinion, opposing ideas, some type of resistance to the other person's desire... the one who feels rejected – because this is the feeling present when his or her desire is not accepted by me – at that moment, there is conflict.

For example, conflict is present all the time in our relationships, and conflict is basically suffering. We cannot deal with people without this element present that gets upset, that suffers because of the fear it brings, because of the desires it has. Note that we always look for relationships that are less tense, with less friction, because for sure, we have less conflict and less suffering, but less suffering, less conflict, friction, is not the absence of suffering.

A brain that carries some level of contradiction, the presence of this contradiction is the presence of conflict. So, we are dealing with what is going on inside each one of us, in our mind, in our heart. It is not exactly with the other that we are dealing, we are dealing with ourselves. The presence of the other makes this worse, because conflict is already present in what we are, because psychologically we are in contradiction.

We are human beings who, internally, due to this way of thinking we have, the consciousness that we carry, have an internal contradiction. There is a contradiction between thinking and feeling, between feeling and acting. We contradict ourselves, we think a certain thing, feel something else and, in action, we are doing a third thing different from what we think or feel. This is the presence of contradiction, of course, of conflict. So, therein lies suffering.

When you feel, in your relationship with your child, your family, or people close to you, some kind of resistance to what you expect from them, want from them, or seek from them, there lies conflict, there lies suffering. When we feel angry at someone, what is the reason for this anger? When you investigate this – and here this investigation is the direct look at the reason for the anger. We are very interesting creatures, we experience psychological aspects of behavior without realizing how this happens, how it works.

This is because we do not study ourselves, we do not investigate what is happening to us, and that keeps this continuity of conflict present, of suffering present. So, when you approach and ask: “How to get rid of suffering?”, first of all you need to understand where this suffering is established, where it establishes itself. A theoretical answer is an answer in words, and that does not solve anything. You need to have a direct answer that you find within yourself, then you move from a theory to a direct, real comprehension of yourself, of how you function.

There is a distance between this theory and this direct perception. Direct perception is comprehension, theory is concept. You understand because you have the theory, but you do not comprehend because you do not have the experience. We need to have an experiential answer to why we suffer, and this is only possible when you study yourself, then you comprehend how your mind works. It is important to say the following here: the comprehension of how your mind works is the comprehension of the human consciousness, because your mind is the mind of humanity. Not comprehending yourself means not comprehending others, others' behavior. If you do not know how you work and do not comprehend the truth about yourself, you do not know how to deal with your reactions, because you do not observe them, you are not aware of them, and, therefore, you do not know how others behave either.

Our contact in life is a contact of action that occurs in relationships. We do not function as an isolated island; we are always in contact with other people. These people do not comprehend each other. They carry within themselves the same pattern of behavior we have, which is to produce conflict and therefore suffering. Thus, our encounter with them is an encounter that not only fosters, but also sustains this same basis. We do not have intelligent behavior; our intelligence is for technical matters, but not for internal matters.

So, we know how to deal with mathematics, because we have mathematical intelligence, we know how to deal with the issue of space, because we have a notion of space or spatial intelligence, we also have a level of emotional intelligence... but this still remains at the technical level, always. We do not know the truth of this consciousness within us, which is human consciousness, the totality of human consciousness. Not comprehending this represents a psychological condition of ignorance and, if ignorance is present, you do not know how life happens in relationships.

Your relationship with him or her will always be a conflictual relationship and, therefore, one of disorder and suffering. When you have a desire that you express to another person, which is not accepted by him or her, a level of discomfort and conflict hits you. A rejected desire creates a conflict within you. Conflict, due to this rejected desire, is a sort of pain, this pain is suffering. Thus, your relationship with him or her will always be marked by internal states, where problems will be established.

Therefore, the condition of our relationships is complicated. People do not understand each other, and they do not understand each other because they do not comprehend themselves. I did not say “you comprehending the other.” Here I refer to you comprehending yourself. Without the comprehension of yourself, without the liberation within you from what makes you suffer, the relationship with the other will always be a relationship of non-comprehension. Here we are, with you, working on the end of the ego, the end of the “I,” the end of this psychological condition of disorder in which we find ourselves.

The beauty of an encounter with the Awakening of Consciousness is that we are before the flowering of Intelligence. No longer spatial intelligence, emotional intelligence, or mathematical intelligence, or any other form of intelligence. I refer to Divine Intelligence, Spiritual Intelligence. A direct path to the Awakening of Intelligence, which is the flowering of Enlightenment – ​​some call That Spiritual Enlightenment, because your state of Being is one of clarity, of comprehension; and in this state of Being, there is no conflict, there is no suffering, there is no illusion of the other to hurt you, to offend you, to annoy you, to upset you, to reject your desires, because all of that disappears.

Atma Vichara from Ramana Maharshi is an approach to this look at what is going on inside you. The comprehension of what is going on inside you is the comprehension of what is going on in the world, it is an answer to the question “Who am I?” Then, you have the comprehension of this human consciousness, that is Enlightenment, the Truth of this Intelligence being life in expression; there is no longer someone present with their fears and desires to be upset, to feel rejected and, therefore, to suffer.

So, how to get rid of suffering? By Liberating yourself from the illusion of this sense of “I.” It is not a matter of someone getting rid of suffering. It is the end of suffering because there is no longer someone present in the experience of relationships. Here, the expression is “Self-inquiry” or “Atma Vichara.” I have used another expression; I have introduced it to you here: it is the awareness of observation without the observer. It is when we have an awareness of each and every movement within ourselves, then there is a look without the “I.”

Let's make this clear to you: your way of looking at life is from the past, it's always like that. Everything you see is from the ideas you bring, the thoughts you have, the memories you carry. So, your way of looking at experience is with a background that interprets, that colors the experience. Then, your way of relating to people is from the past you have about them, that is, from the memory, from the remembrances of situations you experienced with him or her. This is the characteristic of the “I,” of the ego, of this person, of this feeling present in the person you see yourself.

So, you are someone who comes into contact with the experience of the present moment based on the vision you bring from the past. This is the vision of the “I.” Here, we are showing you that looking at this moment, at what is happening, both externally and internally, is only a real look when you discover how to look without the “I.” As long as this sense of the “I” is present, there will be conflict, some level of contradiction and, therefore, suffering.

How can we break with suffering? By breaking with the “I,” which means breaking with the past, breaking with this background of conditioning of the mind, breaking with this way of evaluating based on interpretations that come from the past. Then, you can be in contact with the other, free from the own “I.” And if here this sense of Being is no longer the sense of being someone, it is only the Reality of your Being, there is no desire, there is no fear, there is no past. Your Natural State of Being is of Completeness, of Love, Peace, Happiness, and Freedom. This state of Being is of divine Intelligence, it is of clarity, of lucidity. A new brain is present, a new mind is present, a new heart is present.

This is what we have been discussing here with you, the Truth of That which you are when illusion ends. It is also important to say here that it has everything to do with the beauty of an inner state of sanity, of comprehension. Therefore, the Truth of That which you are does not carry conflict, fear, desire or suffering. Liberation from suffering is the liberation from the sufferer. All suffering is present because of the one who suffers. That is one of the fundamental aspects to be investigated here and we have been doing this, here on the channel, with you.

As long as there is the sense of being someone, there will be the sensation of that someone in suffering, full of desires and fears. The end of the idea of a someone, of that hypnotic suggestion created by thought of someone present, the end of that is the end of the sufferer, and if that ends, there is no more suffering. GC: Hello, everyone! We are here for another videocast! Once again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you, Master, for being here.

Master, today I am going to read an excerpt from the book of Joel Goldsmith called “Consciousness is what I Am.” In an excerpt from this book, Joel makes the following comment: “I discover that what I have known as ‘I’ and that you know as ‘I’, is not the ‘I’, it is a false idea of ​​my being that I hold.” Regarding this false idea that we maintain about ourselves, can the Master share his vision on this subject with us?

MG: So, Gilson, it is very interesting when you use the expression “this false idea that we maintain about ourselves.” Yes, Gilson, it’s exactly that: every idea that we have or maintain does not deal with Reality. Idea is not Reality. Every idea is just an image. When you have an idea, you have a mental picture, you have a thought, you have an image. We have an image, a mental picture, an idea about ourselves. Here, the question is: how did this arise? And why is it here? Why can't we deal with the Truth of What we really are? Why are we in a hypnotic state, of sleep, of unconsciousness about this? How did this arise?

It's simple! When you were a child, very little, you began to become aware of things. This awareness of things were experiences that you remembered. Therefore, you go through experiences, and this is still the case today... When you go through experiences, you store these experiences as memories, as remembrances. They are remembered. So, you begin to become aware of things. This awareness is nothing other than the awareness of memory, of remembrance, and this memory, remembrance is thought. So, you went through experiences, and one of these experiences was the memory of your name, the memory of your parents... This became part of the history of this body and this mind.

You grew up… you grew up with the idea of ​​being someone, because you have a body and a particular mind and a particular name. Then, you receive a document with your identity number, so there you are “someone.” You describe yourself as being someone, but this “someone” is a description that thoughts give, that memory has, that memory brings, but you still don’t know the Reality of That which is You, in your Real, True Nature. You confuse yourself with the name, with the body, with the story, with this memory, which is thought.

So, we are living within this condition, in the condition of being someone present in life, in experience, while this “someone” is just a thought that we have about who we are and that we describe to others. Furthermore, we form, due to this set of memories and remembrances, a self-image, a psychological photograph. This is self-image! The person that we are is this psychological photograph.

Here, Gilson, it is important to say the following: because of this model of living, in this condition, we are living in an illusion. When we meet other people, they have the same vision of themselves that we have of ourselves: a mistaken vision regarding the Truth of Life, because we are always particularizing life based on this self-image. Notice how delicate this is! “My” contact with you is based on the image that “I have” of who “I am.”

So, our model of life and human existence is based on this self-centering, this self-centeredness, something that revolves around this self-image. This is the condition of the person, it is the condition of the “I.” Therefore, we do not know the Truth about ourselves. We have about ourselves what culture has given us. And what did it give us? What it had to give us! When you are born in a certain country, you receive the political vision of that country, the religious vision of that country, the vision of tradition and general culture of that country. You learn the language, you learn that language, you learn the behavioral patterns of that given culture, and all of this gives you a psychological formation, it gives you a way of feeling, acting and thinking in the world. So, this gives us, Gilson, a human conditioning, it gives us an identity. This identity is not real, it is the cultural identity, it is the identity of history, it is the human identity. You still do not know the Truth about who you are!

What is complicated about this here, in this condition, is that we spend our entire lives within this psychological conditioning, as well as cultural, social and religious conditioning, without the Truth of the Revelation of our Real Being, of our True Nature. So, in this life, Gilson, we need to become aware of the Truth of That which we really are, otherwise we will continue living within this model, this pattern of culture, society and world until the end of our days.

This condition of existence is clearly explained to us by the Sages as a condition of ignorance. So, we are living in ignorance. We do not know the Truth of That which we are, because we do not approach this study of ourselves, this investigation. This is because culture, the world, and society have no idea of ​​what we are addressing here, the importance of ending this condition. The importance of ending this is the Awareness of the Truth of your Being, it is That which the Sages recognize as Awakening. So, a Reality reveals itself beyond this condition, this dream format of human existence.

This is what we are working on here with you: showing you that, yes, in this life it is possible to verify the Reality of your Being. To become aware, Gilson, of That which we truly are is to go beyond this culture, society, this world. Until this becomes clear, there will always be this ignorance. All suffering, confusion, disorder, fear, problems, conflicts, all of this is established in our lives due to this condition, because we are living within the context of culture, where this is present.

Look at the world and you will realize this, Gilson. The world lives on ambition, envy, fear, the search for fulfillment and external fulfillment through desires. This is because there is, within each one of us, a condition of dissatisfaction, of existential void. There is a feeling within us of complete incompleteness, which nothing completes. There is a void that nothing fills! There is a fear of ceasing to be and, therefore, there is this search to become, to achieve. We do not know, Gilson, the Truth of That which we are. The Awareness of this Truth of That which we are, when that which we “are” is no longer present, that which we seem to be is no longer present, that which we demonstrate to be is no longer present – ​​I refer to this self-image –, when that is no longer present, the Reality of That which we truly are is Love, is Freedom, is Happiness, is Peace. We were born to Realize That, we were born to become aware of That.

The great truth, Gilson, is that the idea of ​​having been born is just a thought too. As long as the dream remains, the idea of ​​someone who was born, who is living and who will die remains. Once Reality is clear as It is, without this model of what It is, of what It seems to be, That which is Real revealing itself is what is present outside of the known and, therefore, outside of thought, outside of time. The Truth of your Being was never born. The Truth of your Being is beyond birth, growth, aging and death. The beauty of this encounter with this Reality is what some call “Enlightenment” or “Awakening.” It has nothing to do with an experience; it is the Reality of That which is present when this experience and, therefore, this memory and this thought no longer exist. All of this requires a different look at this instant, at what is happening here, at this moment, with each one of us.

So, it is necessary, Gilson, to break with the model of thought, to break with the model of the past, of experience. The past, thought, experience is within this context of dream, is within this context of everything that is known, while this Reality, It is beyond this… it is the Divine Reality! It is timeless; It is not in time. It is non-spatial; It is not in this space-time format. It is the Divine Nature! To assume This in this life is to attain Liberation in this existence. It is what the Sages call “Emancipation” or “Liberation in life.” There is a word in Sanskrit for this. They call it “Moksha.” Moksha is Liberation, the end of this confusion, disorder, suffering, problems… It is the end of this model of separation between the Divine Reality and the Truth of this Being that is You. The Truth of this Being that is You is the Divine Reality. The Realization of This is Moksha, Liberation in this life. This is the end of the dream for this dreamer, for this one who sees himself separate and apart from life, having problems.

Therefore, a work in this direction is a work of studying ourselves. To know oneself is to go beyond this “oneself.” The thing is that for a long time, all of us, for a very long time, all of this time in human history, we have been living in the same pattern. We are just continuing the pattern of those who came here before us. So, fear is present, anger is present, envy is present, jealousy, possession, control, attachment, the desire for more... All of this is part of conflicting internal states of disorder and suffering, present in this condition, which is the condition of the ego, of the “I,” of this false identity, of this illusory identity, which is this self-image.

So, we need to acknowledge Reality. The detail is that, here, the Awareness of Reality is not something that thought can acknowledge. This Awareness of Reality reveals itself exactly when thought is not there. Then, the Reality of your Being becomes aware of your Real Identity. This is the Nature of God, This is Moksha, This is Liberation. This is what some call “Spiritual Awakening” or “Awakening of Consciousness.” Having a real approach to oneself requires Self-awareness, requires Meditation, and here Meditation is discovering the Truth of That which is present in this instant, moment by moment, outside of the thinker, outside of the experiencer, outside of the past. Can we realize This? Yes, and we need to realize This in this life.

GC: Master, we have a question here, within this theme. The question from a subscriber to the channel was the following: “I have a question: I know that I am not the “lower self,” the ego. My Real Being is the Divine Self. How can I make this evident in my life?”

MG: So… When you say “I know that I am not this,” but you already start to describe what you are… Note, from thought, we have ideas, we have beliefs, we have learned concepts, and we start to make statements about that which, in truth, we do not know and in which we only believe: “I know that I am the Divine Self, the Higher Self. I know that I am the Supreme Self.” Notice, these statements are still statements made by thought, based on the books you have read, the lectures you have listened to. You ask how to make this evident… Here, the first thing is to abandon this idea, because it is a belief.

Gilson, it is essential to discover how to realize That in a real way, not based on the principle of idea, of belief – this only gets in the way. We cannot get closer to the Truth of That which we really are based on an idea about This. An idea is a thought, it is a concept, it is a belief, it is a conclusion, still, of this thinker, of this one who is in search of an experience, who is the experiencer. So, the thinker has an idea about this, the experiencer has a project about this. That is why we spend a lot of time without the Truth of this Awareness, because we remain in the realm of ideas, beliefs. So, we are left with concepts, conclusions and projects.

Gilson, an approach to this requires work in this life, it requires looking at your reactions. When you start to become aware of these reactions here and now, moment by moment, you notice this thinker with his thoughts, this observer with what he observes, this experiencer with his experiences. Becoming aware of this is discarding this division, this separation, and, therefore, this model of conflicting, suffering, and illusory existence. So, making this evident in life means discarding illusion. Therefore, the recommendation here, Gilson, is: get closer to Self-awareness.

It is essential to discover what it is to look without the “I,” to perceive without the perceiver, to become aware without this element in this awareness. The real approach to this is through Attention; Pay attention to each and every internal movement of this consciousness, which is the egoic consciousness, discovering what it means to look at it. Thus, for the first time, we are learning to unlearn everything that this self-image has built about ourselves, about others and about life. So, here we are dealing with discarding illusion through self-observation, through Self-awareness. This is what makes this Vision, this Awareness of God, this Awareness of the Truth of That, which is present beyond the “I,” evident.

GC: Master, we have another question from a subscriber here on the channel, Ricardo Costa. He asked the following question: “Is the death of thoughts the death of the ego?”

MG: Gilson, once you understand what the ego is, the “I,” the “me,” this self-image, it becomes clear that it is when psychological thought ends that this Reality shows itself. So, in a certain way, yes, as long as you understand the expression “thought” here. Here, we are dealing with the end of this model of psychological thought that gives identity to this self-image. So, when this is over, Reality is there, but a theoretical conclusion about it doesn't help. I say again: all we need is a direct work in this direction, a real approach to the Realization of It. This requires a verification; it requires direct awareness of what This represents here and now.

Atma Vichara Ramana Maharshi. How to get rid of emotional dependence? How to get rid of suffering?

Here, the question is: how to get rid of suffering? This is a playlist here on the channel. We have several videos here, within this playlist. Note that this issue of Freedom is something fundamental, essential. We are all, in fact, in search of Freedom. We feel the importance of Freedom, although we do not understand what this search movement itself is. Because of this, we are lost in this search.

See how curious it is: we want freedom, we are in search of freedom, but this search for freedom, as we believe, puts us in a mistaken search for freedom. Why do people seek relationships? Because there is a lack, an incompleteness, a dissatisfaction in them. We want to find in these relations or in these relationships this completeness, this satisfaction or plenitude. So, for us, this is the ideal of freedom.

So, is there a search for love? Yes. Is there a search for freedom? Yes. But it is this form, this format, this is the form that they gave us and said: “Go there and find love. It has to fit within this form,” “Go there and find freedom. It has to fit within this form.” And this is how we are acting, and this is how we are moving in the world, in search of freedom, in search of love.

So, there is a mistake here. Because, for us, love will complete us and freedom will fulfill us. But we already have the ideal of freedom and the ideal of love, and for most of us, this is on the outside. That is why we talk about financial freedom, freedom of expression, freedom of thought, freedom to do what we want, to go where we want to go, to find and acquire what we seek, what we want.

For us, the idea of ​​freedom is space. But it is a space that we project from this center, which is the “I,” the “me,” the “person.” So, you have an ideal of freedom, and this ideal of freedom is born from the project that you have. Here, the question is: who are you? What can you really know about freedom, other than what propaganda, what the model of the world has shown you?

So, when we talk about encountering freedom or encountering love, we are merely projecting an ideal from this “I.” Let’s see something here with you: what is this “I”? Does it really have intelligence, full awareness, real consciousness to know the truth of freedom or the truth of love? We need to investigate this.

Putting it in another way: do you, as someone, as a person, know what love is? Do you know what freedom is? Do you know what the truth of this space that you seek is? We are in search of space, we are in search of freedom, we are in search of love, but they are mere projections of this center, of this “I.” And what is this “I”? Propaganda, the model of the world, of human history.

So, all we have are ideas, beliefs, projects, intentions, and internal motivations based on the thoughts we bring. But the truth is that these thoughts we bring are thoughts that culture has given us, that propaganda has shown us.

So, what human beings seek in this old condition of being someone, of being a person, being as we are, a person, the result of everything we have learned from other people, the truth about this is that we are just continuing the old and ancient pattern, this old and ancient format of permanent dissatisfaction and unhappiness.

Note that after you find love, you soon find yourself in trouble with what you call love. What we call love generates some form of attachment, of dependence, which is, naturally, the presence of fear.

Some people wonder how to deal, for example, with this issue of emotional dependence. But you see, they want to get rid of emotional dependence, but they don't realize that this emotional movement of dependence is exactly the presence of fear. What initially seemed like love is now attachment, need, insecurity, fear. So, you come and ask how to get rid of emotional dependence. This is because the ideal of seeking love out there has put you in this situation.

So, sentimentally, emotionally, psychologically, we are prisoners of what we say we love, what we feel we love. In reality, what we feel is attachment, dependence, fear. So, these ideals we have of encountering freedom, of encountering love end up going wrong, since this movement is the movement from this illusory identity, which is the ego, which lives within this context of projecting thoughts, beliefs, images. Notice how delicate all of this is.

Here we are only detailing a given situation, but there are countless. There are countless situations in which we now find ourselves in this situation, in this so-called search for freedom, or for love, or for happiness, or for peace. We will find all of this out there, but we have an ideal of how to find it, and the ideal is the ideal of society, of the world, of everything we have as a model.

When you access Instagram or the media, you learn from them where to find happiness, and you end up finding what they say is happiness. And then you find yourself in this mess, in this complication. And why does all of this happen? Because we are under an illusion.

Here we are with you showing you what it means to realize the Truth of your Being, what it means to realize the Truth of God, what it means to truly live a life free from all these complications that thought creates. Once you understand that every thought within you is the result of a past experience, of knowledge already acquired and that it is something that does not come from Reality, but rather from the model of dreams, of human existence, within a pattern that is already known, all we have in this model of the known – if you look, get closer, you can see – is dissatisfaction, it is incompleteness.

There is nothing in this world that can truly give you this completeness of Being, because Happiness does not reside in any of this. Once you understand that thought within us is the result of everything that human beings, through experience and knowledge, have acquired and lived, and that today is part of memory, something within this known pattern, once you become aware of this, you stop trusting thoughts. You stop trusting projects that thought idealizes. Then, you stop buying these products, these images, these pictures, these ideals that thought has constructed.

Discovering the Truth about yourself is becoming aware of a Reality outside of the known and, therefore, outside of thought. This Truth about yourself is where the nature of Happiness, Completeness and Love is present. So, how can you free yourself from suffering? The answer to this question lies in the Reality of That which is You in your Being.

How can you free yourself from emotional dependence? It is the sense of “I,” of the ego, it is the presence of illusion that sustains not only this, but several conditions of internal states of unhappiness. Here together we are seeing with you how to discover this Real Space that we are actually looking for, this Real Freedom that we are looking for, this Real Love that, within us, we know is somewhere.

Here, the revelation is that this is not somewhere. Here, the revelation is that this is the nature of this Being that is present. That which is You is this Freedom, this Love, this Space. So, where does all this reveal itself? What is the essence of this Freedom, this Space, this Love? This Space, the essence of this Space, this Freedom and this Love, which is Happiness, is That which is present here and now, when there is no longer this center, this “I,” this ego.

See, everything that Life is in its completeness reveals itself; in its Beauty, Mystery, Realization, it reveals itself when the illusion of this “I,” this center is no longer present. See how much we appreciate space. I have already said, I have commented on this here with you other times: when you travel, you do not want to go to a narrow and cramped place; you travel to a forest, you travel to a mountain, to a beach.

When you go to a hotel, you look for a spacious hotel, where the rooms are large rooms. We want space. Internally, we look for space; Externally, we seek space, because space takes us back to the nature of this Being, to the essence of this Being, which is Love, which is Happiness, which is Freedom.

So, notice that where there is space, there is Freedom. And the Truth of Love gives you this space, which is Freedom. And when you are a prisoner of a psychological condition of suffering, you are without space. Fear is the absence of space, it is anxiety, anguish, depression. This is the psychological condition of the “I” in this contraction, in this internal state of confusion, without space. Here we are inviting you to a direct understanding of life, where the Reality of God is present.

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi shared Atma Vichara in his days. The word Atma Vichara is self-inquiry, in English, or self-investigation, or self-observation. This is the Atma Vichara of Ramana Maharshi. Here on this channel, we are working with you to end this psychological condition in which, in this sense of the “I,” of the ego, we find ourselves.

So, getting closer to the Truth about yourself requires this self-observation. Discovering how to get closer to Atma Vichara: this is what we are working on here, with you, on this channel, for Liberation, for the end of this condition of egoic identity, where this Space, this Freedom, this Love is now present. Then, there is the end of suffering, the end of this condition of attachment, fear, of emotional dependence.

So, getting closer to the Truth about Yourself requires Self-awareness. It is necessary for you to understand everything that is happening inside you. We need to definitively break with this culture, with this model of the world, with this psychological pattern of existence, where our lives are guided by envy, where we want to be like other people, to have what they have, to obtain what they have obtained, to achieve what they have achieved, even because they tell us that they are fine. This is something completely illusory, completely false.

We have to break away from this egoic condition, from this sense of being someone in life, in experience, in living, to assume the Truth of That which we truly are. So, in this approach to Self-awareness through self-observation, through Atma Vichara, we are in contact with the awareness of Meditation. And this Meditation reveals this Being, this Completeness, this Singularity, the essence of Love, Happiness, Peace, Freedom.

Here, our disposition needs to be the disposition towards the end of confusion, the end of disorder, the end of conflict. Therefore, the quality of life where Reality is present is something completely outside of everything that thought envisions, everything that thought idealizes, everything that is part of its program. And that's what we're inviting you here to become aware of. What will a life free, totally and completely free of problems be like? What does a quality of life like this look like? If thought is the main element in the relationship, conflict is established. We need to discover the free life of thought, since thought is a reaction in us, present, that comes from the past.

Notice how interesting it is to have an approximation of this here, now. When you talk to your wife, you're not having an encounter with her; your encounter is actually an encounter with the past in her. You see, it's not her past, it's the image you bring of her, which comes from the past. So, your encounter with her is an encounter with the past! This past is the memory, the image that stands between you and her in this encounter. This is how we sustain our relationships when thought is the element that guides these relationships. Let's understand this, we need to be very clear about it.

Here, we are showing you how to live life free of thought and therefore free of the past. Your encounter with your wife, without the idea you have of her, is a real encounter, because you are in an encounter with a human being. And this encounter is an encounter from the Truth that you are, in this encounter about who she is. An encounter without images is an encounter without conflict, without problems and therefore without suffering. We are unaware of the beauty of Love present in our relationships, because our relationships are relationships where there is a psychological need for acceptance of the other. So, they expect you to accept them, but you also expect them to accept you.

This hope, this longing, is something that the ego, the “I,” the “me,” this self-image in you is waiting for, but when she meets you, she also does exactly the same thing. See, I'm giving an example here between husband and wife, but this goes for parents and children, boss and employee, for colleagues, for friends, for enemies... Wherever there is a human relationship, this game will be present; when she meets you, she also meets the past, the image she has of who you are. So, you have an image of her and she has an image of you.

Here, on this channel, we are showing you how, in this life, to awaken, how to discover life free of the ego. That's exactly what you're hearing. We are here proposing a life without the ego and therefore without that center around which life is happening or seems to be happening. Once you are aware of the Reality of this Being that is you in your True Nature, it becomes very clear that every experience in life is an experience without the experiencer, without the thinker, without the image, without that self-image. Then, there is no fear, no desire, no conflict, because there is no divergence, there is no self-centeredness, no self-interest in the relationship. That's because thought, which comes from the past, doesn't exist.

Realize the beauty of this, looking at him or her and just recognizing their face and their mannerisms. To recognize his or her model of behavior and action, but to look at him or her without the past. So, you're always facing the new. Look, our ego contacts are not as such, we are always establishing image, we are always establishing thought as the most important factor in our relationships, and there is a reason why we do this: that element in us, which is the ego, the thinker, all it has is thought, all it knows in life is thought.

We can dispense with the thought, make use of thought only when necessary. Now I've just given you an example: remembering your wife's face requires memory. Memory is the impression of an image, it's recollection. Yes, it's something that's part of the structure of knowledge, of experience, but this is a quality of experience or a quality of thought, of image, which is a simple recognition of memory. That's not what we're talking about, we're talking about the psychological image you have of her, of someone you like or dislike, of someone of whom, over all these years, you've created a psychological impression, a psychological image of her or him. Thus, what happens in this encounter is an encounter between images, it's this psychological background in this self-centeredness.

If you have an idea of who you are, you are someone who has worries, desires, fears, problems, conflicts... You carry this like or dislike, you have an internal movement of self-defense, of self-protection, of self-support of this self-image. This causes you to feel fear, to live in this liking and disliking of those who like you, those who don't like you, those who accept you and those who reject you. This model of self-centeredness, of “I”-activity, is the activity of self-image. What is this self-image? It's that element in you that won't accept being criticized, belittled, rejected, not praised, that won't accept its opinions being dismissed, rejected. This whole model of arrogance, presumption, vanity, emotional dependence and attachment is all part of this self-image. This is the sense of being someone.

The encounter between people is a very, very delicate encounter, because the whole relationship of friendship, companionship, complicity in relationships, always depends on these contracts between images. So, there is confusion, disorder, suffering, because fear is present. To break with this is to discover something beyond all this, which is the Truth of your Being. Atma Vichara, the awareness of the “I,” shows you something beyond this, a present Reality, which is present when there is no longer this “I,” this “me,” this self-image.

This is the Nature of your Being. That's what we're sharing with you here on this channel, showing you that, yes, in this life, it is possible to realize your Divine Nature, which is the Nature of God, so that the self-image with its fear, desires, conflicts and problems is no longer present in these relationships, but the only Reality is present in these relationships, where there is the Truth of this oneness with the other. This oneness, this non-separation, this non-distance between you and him or her is the presence of Love in relationships, because it is the presence of God. You are at Peace, you no longer carry fear, problems, conflicts, therefore those who approach you do so to partake in That which you are; it is always like this.

So there comes a time when they ask: “How to overcome jealousy? How to overcome insecurity? How to overcome fear in relationships?” You see, this is all present because of self-image. We are creatures in this sense of the “I”, of the ego – which is this self-image – full of fears. How to deal with changes in life? That's another question. How to deal with changes in life? How to deal with envy? How to deal with fear? All of this is because we lack a vision of the Truth about ourselves.

Thus, Atma Vichara brings you closer to the Truth of your Being through Self-Awareness, through Meditation. To become aware of your True Nature is to go beyond the ego, to go beyond “I”, and that is the answer to all these problems linked to this model of being someone. So, can we break away from all of this? The answer is yes, by becoming aware of this Love, this Freedom, this Happiness of Being, which is your Real Nature. That's when you can have an encounter with your husband, wife, child, family, the world around you, without problems, without conflicts, without suffering, because you are in your Divine Nature, in your Real Nature, in the Truth of That which is you.

Immersion Self-Awareness | Mindfulness | How to deal with jealousy and insecurity | Advaita

Here, we are emphasizing with you this immersion in Self-Awareness, the beauty of it. Looking at this inner movement of thought, feeling, emotion, sensation, your specific way of contacting what is here and now, at this instant. Becoming aware, conscious of this movement of duality, of separateness, which is present in this consciousness, which is the consciousness of the “I,” which is this pattern of consciousness that we know in ourselves. To become aware of it, to be clear about it, is to abandon this psychological condition of egoic identity. This is Self-Awareness.

You see, it's not psychology's viewpoint of self-awareness, nor is it philosophy's viewpoint of self-awareness. Here we use the expression Self-Awareness in a direct way, signaling to you the Truth of the end of the “I,” the end of the ego. And how do we become aware of this? There is only one way, and that is to bring Awareness to this instant.

Note, when we use the expression “bringing Awareness,” we're not bringing it from somewhere. This is something that is here and flourishes in this direct, simple and real interest in looking at this movement, which is the movement of thought. It is thought that guides practically everything in our lives. Your entire history, memory, recognition, way of perceiving, interpreting, evaluating, comparing, judging, all of this is within thought. Observe this with me here.

All this so-called consciousness present in us is the presence of the consciousness of thought. The detail is that we are not aware of it, and that makes all the difference. It's not a simple detail. It's what has made our lives what they are now. The fact that you are unaware of this inner movement taking place within you.

This feeling-thought you have of being someone here, for example, listening to a speech like this, believing that you can agree or disagree with what you hear, all this is part of this model, which is the model of consciousness present in each one of us. We have absolutely no vision of what this represents. There is no direct understanding of it. That means that our lives are based on internal states of conflict, confusion, disorder, problems and suffering. This is because we are unaware of Reality.

Reality is what is present, but remains and will always remain unknown to thought. And since everything we have about who we are is based on thought, is grounded in thought, we are under an illusion; the illusion of the one who thinks and accomplishes after planning, then becomes capable of doing what they have decided, resolved, chosen, and we use that pronoun “I” in the illusion of this authorship of everything that happens. Note, this is a model of action, yes, but it is action in mere activity centered on the illusion of an ego-identity present. We don't know anything about it. We've never investigated it.

Here on this channel our proposal is just that, an investigation of the Truth about who you are. This requires an immersion in this study of yourself. Look at your head and you'll realize what we're saying. The mind is restless. There is no silence, no stillness, no serenity. The mind is chatty. The movement of thought is fast, rapid, uncontrolled. And thoughts are inside us creating all kinds of confusion, disorder and suffering.

Fear, for example, is something that is present – and we have several videos here and we are constantly talking about this issue of fear – in our lives, and it is present because of the model of thought, how it has been established in us. Putting us in a condition where the future is uncertain and insecure for this “me,” for this “I.” This “I” is an image that thought has also created about who I am.

So, we have the problem of fear created by thought. We're afraid of the future, we're afraid that the past will repeat itself. Fear is present because we are not dealing with life as it happens here and now. We are, in thought, foreseeing the good things that we may lack tomorrow or the bad things that may happen tomorrow; they happened in the past, thought brings us the memory, thought remembers it and brings fear with it, into the future.

So, we live within a movement, which is the movement of thought, and thought is sustaining all kinds of inner states of disorder and confusion. Then, we're settling our lives into this pattern, this model of thought. And it is in thought that we find stress, nervousness, anxiety, depression, anguish, the pain of lack, the desire to obtain, the fear of not achieving.

Thus, our thoughts guide our lives, as well as our actions in our relationships. Observe this: the thought in you brings the feeling that generates, that produces the action. Our actions are based on thought. Thought generates the feeling, generates the impulse, forms the plan, idealizes the project and goes in search of it. Our actions are based on thought. Here is thought, notice, and it's based on the past.

Thought cannot deal with this moment, with the comprehension of this moment because it is a portrait of the past. So, we're always trying to meet this moment as it appears based on everything that thought represents within each of us, and it doesn't fit. It's the attempt of the “I,” of the ego, of that thinker, of that self-image to adjust this moment to its model that comes from the past. Notice, all the confusion in our lives is based on this.

So, for example, jealousy and insecurity are present. How do we deal with jealousy and insecurity? But it's not just how to deal with jealousy and insecurity, it's how to deal with envy, with the pain present here because of this comparison: “Why does he have it and I don't? Why can he and I can't?” It's always the thought that guides this conflicted, suffering model of existence, which is the existence of the ego, of the “I,” of this “me.”

Here we are with you, telling you, presenting you with a quality of life that is different from that particular life of this center, that ego, of this “me” and, therefore, free from this model of thought. This requires the presence of a new look at this pattern of egoic consciousness. Bringing to this moment Full Attention to this movement of consciousness, which is nothing other than thoughts, images, pictures, representations that thought produces within each of us about life as it happens.

Thus, thought is in ideals, in projects of what should happen, of what could have happened, of what it would be like if this or that had happened. This model of thinking is happening because of a lack of attention to this movement. We don't know how to look at the thought of this “I.”

When thought appears, notice, at that moment, when it appears in this or that other format within you, it can be seen. And it can be seen if you pay attention to its movement, Full Attention, Mindfulness, on this movement, which is the movement of thought, feeling, emotion, sensation, the image that arises, the frame that thought constructs at that moment.

A look at it, in which you pay Full Attention. Just a look, without mistaking yourself for like, dislike, want, don't want, agree or disagree. Just look at it. Discovering what it is to look at it without this one that comes from the past, which is the “I,” the ego, the observer, who wants to get rid of it, who wants to do something about it, or who wants to cling to it or get rid of it. To look, just to look, is to bring Full Attention to this instant, to this movement, which is the movement of Consciousness.

So the expression here, in this Full Attention, some call Mindfulness. Mindfulness is this Full Attention on this movement, which is the movement of Consciousness, at this instant. This is part of a real approach to Self-Awareness. When there is this immersion in Self-Awareness, this is possible when you bring Attention to this instant, that is, when you become aware of the very movement of the “I,” of the ego, of this “me.”

To look at it, just to look, is to observe without the observer, to listen, to become aware of your reactions at that moment. So we have a new look at this psychological condition of repetition, of continuity, of the movement of psychological time. It's when “it couldn't be like this” or “it should be different,” “something is wrong,” “why is it like this?” all that disappears. Because there is only one look, without this involvement of this center, which is the “I,” without this personal involvement of this illusory identity to interfere, to get involved. Then, at that instant, we have an approach to the Truth of Meditation.

This Meditation is the vision of Non-duality, of Non-separation, that this moment is only what it is. So, this Meditation is an approach to Advaita. There is a Reality present here, at this instant, it is the Reality of this Being, of this Divine Truth. If That is present, we have an end to this psychological condition of disorder and suffering. I want to repeat this once again: this is not just an answer to how to deal with jealousy and insecurity, but also how to deal with all forms of suffering, of psychic suffering.
