GC: Hello everyone! We are here for another videocast. Once again Master Gualberto is here with us. Gratitude, Master, for your availability! Today I'm going to read an excerpt from Joel’s book called “Awakening Mystical Consciousness,” so Master can make some comments, as we have been bringing in the meetings some questions from the people here on the channel. In this excerpt from the book, Master, Joel quotes an excerpt from the Bible, from Jesus Christ. He speaks like this: “The Master Jesus Christ taught his disciples to avoid judging people and things when he said: ‘Why do you call me ‘good'? There is no ‘good’ but one, which is God.” Master, could you tell us a little about it?
MG: Well, I prefer to put it a little differently, this issue of judgment. There he refers, according to Joel, to people and things. Let’s dig a little deeper into this issue of judgment. Judging is a problem, like comparison is a problem, like evaluation is a problem, like acceptance or rejection is a problem. What are we saying? The problem is in this sense of this “I” present in this comparison, in this evaluation, in this acceptance or rejection, and in this judgment. It’s not about not being able to judge, it’s about an illusory identity in this movement of judgment.
The sense of an “I” present in us, Gilson, is the one that is always, based on a doctrine, on knowledge, on a past experience, evaluating the present moment from its background of experience, knowledge, and memory. So, the subject here is much more delicate – this issue of not judging –, because it’s not just not judging, it’s not comparing, it’s not evaluating, it’s not accepting or rejecting, it’s not putting the element “I,” which is the ego, within experience, which is what we do when we are faced with a situation, be it external in a relationship with people or in a relationship with a situation, or even in an internal relationship with thoughts, feelings, and emotions. And we place ourselves there as the sensor or the judge of that situation.
So, when we do that, we are affirming again and again, that is, affirming and reaffirming that element, which is the ego, within the experience of this present moment. This is because we live in the illusory identity of the ego, identifying with this false center, this personal identity. So, the work of Truth Realization consists of becoming aware of this movement, which is exactly the movement of the “I,” which, when it appears, appears accepting, rejecting, judging, evaluating, saying “yes”, saying “no.” So that’s basically it, the sense of “I” is this conditioning.
Our intellect, our intellectual, mental formation... Since childhood, we have been subjected to propaganda that has given us a conditioning, where everything we evaluate is within principles conditioned by the humanistic, social, and cultural mentality. We believe what we think; in fact, our thoughts are the result of cultural conditioning. The human being, Gilson, believes that he is someone and that he has freedom to think, to feel, to evaluate, to compare, and to judge. And he believes that he does all this correctly, and, in fact, he is just a conditioning, in an egocentric expression, in a relationship with the world around him.
The problem with ego-identity is that the ego lives within this program and is naturally unhappy, in a relationship in conflict with life, because it is not flowing with the instant, with the present moment. The situation of the human being in the ego, Gilson, is one of psychological insanity, because he, being this result of cultural, political, social, religious, and all kinds of conditioning, is always expressing himself in the world in a mistaken way. He is unhappy exactly because he lives within a psychological condition where the view he has of himself, of life, of the world, of others, and the various beliefs he has – including these beliefs that he believes are important for his life –, the fixation on all of this has driven him into a condition of complete insanity.
So, we don't know, Gilson, the Truth about who we are, but we believe we can judge, evaluate, accept, reject, criticize, and condemn life as it happens, the other as he is, ourselves as we position ourselves, and all this is within this ignorance. So, there is no Truth until this Divine Realization settles down here and now. Your work is to become aware of the Truth about your Being and to go beyond this model of the world, of mundanity, of the conditioned pattern of egoic life. As long as this is present, ignorance will be present and, of course, all this mess that our evaluations, comparisons, acceptances, rejections, and judgments are promoting.
GC: Master, it’s impressive how the ego, by itself, will never leave… it’s the dog chasing its tail, within these beliefs, within these limitations, within judgment. And I see how much, in the presence of the Master, by that Realization of the Master, somehow, the True Meditation, or this Mindfulness, this self-observation, goes on unfolding. And I realize how it is something that... at least for this “me,” for this “I,” it would be completely impossible to have a small glimpse of this Reality – where I am not present, which is just Life – without the contact with a living Master, without contact with you, because, really, the ego by itself is eternally in its game! And it is a Grace to be able to be in Satsang.
MG: At most, Gilson, what you can do, in this egoic identity, is to study. So, you start studying books, you start reading about it, you start learning about it, and, naturally, what you learn, what you study, starts to become merely verbal, intellectual, theoretical knowledge inside you. But the moment comes when you say, “Why doesn't this work? Why is the truth...” – because, until then, you have considered that to be the truth. “Why is this truth not yet a reality for me?” It’s because what you have is not the Truth, what you have is theory. As you are putting it, it is exactly this: if you walk in circles, you will walk a lot, but you will not leave the circle.
The ego lives in a maximum-security prison condition, but it is a prison to which no one has the key. The expression “maximum security prison” is paradoxical. It is inside a prison where, paradoxically, it was not placed, yet it is there and has no key. There’s no way out of there, now what? The point here, Gilson, is that, for the ego, there is no solution. It’s in a prison and it doesn't know how it got there, and there’s no way out, because this prison has no doors.
So, this is about investigating the illusion of this ego. Then, you see the illusion of prison and that’s the end of the ego. But the ego itself won’t get out of it. What the ego can do is walk inside the prison, studying, learning, practicing different techniques or practices, but everything inside the prison. Anything you can build inside a prison will be part of the prison itself. Whatever the mind can achieve, accomplish, obtain, experience, will be within the mind itself. The Truth of the Revelation of your Essential Nature is something outside the prison, it is something outside the mind, it is something outside the “I” and therefore something completely outside all effort, dedication, practice, exercise, pursuit, that you do. Only an action of the mysterious Presence of Grace can put an end to this prison, and when this prison disappears, the prisoner disappears together, because the prisoner is the prison itself. The problem, Gilson, is that until you become aware of this prisoner movement, you cannot see the prison you are in, so whatever you are doing, you will be doing inside the prison. That which can give you the vision of the prison is the truth of the revelation of that prisoner, and you cannot have that vision of yourself without the Presence of Grace.
Now see what an interesting thing we have here: you can't know what’s outside the prison, because you don't have access to it. That’s why I've been saying, Gilson, that there is no way for human beings to reach God, Realize God, come to God, because that is outside this movement, which is the movement of the “I,” which is the prison itself. But it is possible to investigate the prison, to observe the movement of the prisoner, to become aware of this model of “I,” of ego-identity. That is why we need a work of self-enquiry, self-investigation, of getting closer to ourselves, to observe this prison movement, what this prison is and this movement of the “I” in the prison.
The detail is, for this to actually happen, we need Divine Grace. Then, there comes a time when the prisoner, inside the prison, which is a prison of that quality, prays. In his confusion, he says desperately: “Look, I've done everything, I've read, I've studied, I've prayed, I've meditated, I've taken all the courses, and the situation is still here. Why is this not resolved?” Then, he prays, he pleads, he cries out, he makes the prayer that he knows, the request that he knows to do, then Grace comes and, when It comes, It reveals itself, and, when It reveals itself, It says: “Look: it’s here!” And then, all the work of dissolving the prison, with this prisoner, happens because of the Divine Love, of Divine Grace.
I am speaking from my experience. This contact with this work gives you perceptions, which are still experiences, for the end of the illusion of the one who experiences things. So, I am talking to you here, reporting something that came into my existence with the presence of Ramana Maharshi; here is his picture. The Presence of Grace, when it arrives in your life, the prison dissolves. And when that prison dissolves, along with that “I,” which is the prisoner, everything goes away and that Reality shows itself to be the Truth of what is here, which has always been here. In the meantime, you get glimpses of the absence of this prisoner and his imprisonment, which is what we have in Satsang. In some very particular moments, within Satsang, it becomes very clear that this “I” element, ego, prison, is not real! And that comes because of Divine Grace. Everything comes from the Divine Grace; everything comes from the Grace of God!
GC: Yeah… That Grace, that Mystery of Life, is beyond words. Master, there is a question here, which is also within the topic that Master just spoke about, from George Raymond. He asks like this: “So, how to be taught to be the Reality and not feel separation? Because, yes, I agree with all of that, but what a person really needs is a map to pull out the consciousness lost in this labyrinth and find the way back to their Primordial Consciousness, the way back home.”
MG: It’s interesting that George says “I agree.” What we are putting here, folks, is not something that can be agreed or disagreed. In general, we have this thing where when we can't intellectually follow something, we say, “I disagree.” But either way, this intellectual agreement or intellectual disagreement is still part of the illusion. Here, it is not a matter we can simply agree or disagree with. We are dealing here with you, placing here, something that is outside the intellect itself. It is possible that, on a certain level, you even feel the Truth of it, and then the intellect says: “But where is the map?” There is no map! There is a work to be accomplished, there is work to be done, there is work to be assumed. It’s not a map that someone follows and gets there.
What does a map show us? The map is a drawing of a territory. The Truth, Reality, God, or whatever name we want to give to that Supreme Truth, that Beauty, is not like a territory that, with the map, you get there. You won't get there! God is a Reality that is not a territory, a place to get there, that with a map, we can guide ourselves and get there. First, there is no such place; second, there is no such “someone”; and third, there is no such map.
The truth is that the only Reality is already present, and that Reality is Divine Reality. Assuming this Reality requires a work from the Divine Reality itself, which is Grace, which begins and ends this work. Indeed, it is something so mysterious that any desire of ours, or will, or good intention, does not enter here. It is the Divine Mystery itself, it is the Mystery of Grace itself, that touches you and moves you to that place where you disappear and Reality shows itself. In general, Gilson, the ego is very motivated when it hears these talks and says, “Now I understand, now I understand.” It says, “Now I know what to do.” In general, the ego says so. It’s just a temporary motivation thing.
This work requires a touch of Presence so real, so deep, so meaningful, there in you, that it makes you burn for It in such a way that you, internally, really and not theoretically, really, are willing to go beyond that sense of an ego-identity for this Truth. So, if you ask “What is the map? Teach me how to do it,” the only thing I have to say to you is: stay in Satsang, turn to that Reality and It does. That Reality... it is That that gives you the condition for this Truth being assumed, for this Truth revealing itself there. The whole work, Gilson, is the work of Grace, the whole work is the work of God. So, God is, in that sense, all that is needed for that Realization, and that Realization is from God in God. So, God takes care of that.
That sense of “I” disappears, that illusion of separation dissolves in this simple and direct Divine Realization. “What do I need to do?” Satsang. “What do I need to do?” Pay attention to what is being shown here and be open to discovering, within yourself, what keeps you still trapped in this illusory condition of a separate identity. That’s all you can “do”: be still and allow Grace to touch you and do Its work. And I'll tell you, from my experience, Gilson, of years in this work: you give hard work to Grace, because we only give trouble to It. Grace does Its work, but we know very well how to procrastinate, postpone, argue with, and resist this work. Only this Divine Grace, making us burn for It, makes this work possible.
GC: I´m speechless how real is what Master said, that it’s only by Grace! The ego, this illusory identity, has the illusion, really, that it will leave “here” and reach “there.” And I, as soon as I arrived at the work with you Master... imagine! Immersed in this illusion of being someone and not knowing it was an illusion. Then: “Wow, I’m going to reach it!” And the ego projects it – because there is no reference to what a Realized Being is. It projects it with its little things, its interests, with its family, etc., and projects a great light, a great peace… Then it takes biblical terms: “The peace that the world does not know...” And today I see, Master, how the ego only clings to everything that it can so, and Grace has a hard work, because the ego is that illusion of someone who will not leave, has no cure, as the Master says.
The ego has no cure, it is an illusion that needs to be seen so that, through the mysterious Grace, it can be dissipated. And the interesting thing, Master, is that I perceive circumstances in which there were, before, a very great emotional involvement on my part... there are things that simply, by the Grace of Master, disappear, and there are many others that come to light and, by the Grace of the Master, they are being seen, they are being seen… And it is not something that an “I” is doing. Why will the ego do anything to get out of itself? It doesn't do it, it just fools around, it just gives it a new disguise. So, this work of this mysterious Grace, this infinite blessing of being able to be with you, Master, which is really something that, in the human, in the “I,” there is no parameter. If we look at it – and it’s obvious that this is really a mental speculation – there are few Realized beings today doing a work like Master does, so there is no parameter for that. And the ego projects millions of fantasies about it! It’s something that is totally outside of what it projects and it’s a mystery that really is to end everything the ego thinks it is, that it has and that it will be or that it won't be. It’s out of time, it’s beyond words.
MG: This is so interesting, Gilson, that you just mentioned, this parameter thing. The egoic mind has no parameter. This “I” consciousness, which I call the egoic mind, is the consciousness of the person. People use the expression “consciousness,” but they don't know it. They are referring to themselves as “consciousness,” in this belief of “being aware” being this Real Consciousness itself – it’s not, it’s just that mental consciousness itself, the consciousness of being aware, which is the consciousness we have right here, in the waking state. Here, the situation of the person, the human being... he sees himself in this state of consciousness, in this “being conscious,” believing that he has this Real Consciousness that I have been talking about on the channel. Real Consciousness is Divine Consciousness! The human being does not have this Truth of assuming this Divine Consciousness. He has this consciousness of the “I,” which is this mental consciousness, and in this consciousness of the “I,” you have no parameter for what we are talking about here, but the mind idealizes.
There are people who even believe they have already realized [God], because they have had a mystical experience that they call Kundalini Awakening, because they don't know what this Awakening really means. Then, they had a so-called “spiritual” experience, they had certain sensations, certain perceptions. They go through different experiences and they classify these experiences as “the Awakening,” because they don't have the real parameter. In that “I” consciousness, we have no parameter of what this Realization is. Folks, this Realization is the end of the sense of separation. This is definitely – strange as it may be for you to hear this, it is exactly like this – this is the definitive end of all psychological suffering, of all the illusion of an identity present in time and space, being alive and dying.
The conditioned brain that we have, in the ego, in that conditioned intellect, in the egoic mind, doesn't reach That, Gilson. That’s outside! So, the Reality of the Truth of your Being is something completely beyond all parameters of the egoic mind. This is the end of the dream, sleep and deep sleep of ordinary human beings, it is the state of Turiya. It’s something else! It is outside! It is beyond any explanation, any verbal, intellectual expression, any experience, any memory, anything that a person can go through and remain a person. There is no longer the sense of an “I,” the sense of a separate identity that lived such experience and can speak about, can report it. So, really, as you put it, this is something very unusual. And it’s only when we approach an encounter like this that we realize what it’s all about.
GC: About what Master just said – “Kundalini Awakening” –, there are many reports on YouTube: “My Kundalini awakened,” as the Master said. And there is a lot of discussion about “opening the third eye,” clairvoyance, clairaudience, and there is a strong belief that this is an Awakening: “Now I am seeing Reality.”
MG: On the channel, we have several videos clarifying [this]. We have a playlist about Kundalini Awakening. It has nothing to do with what you've been hearing. Kundalini, Gilson, is this Reality of Consciousness, this Energy of Presence, which is potential in each one of us, which is actualized. We do carry that potential, that Energy. It is being wasted today in this dream world, in this world of egoic consciousness, of this “I” consciousness. We deepen this there on the channel. We have several videos clarifying this. So, we are wasting this Energy. When That becomes available in that body-mind for a change in that structure itself – in that psychophysical structure, in that psychophysical being, which it is body, mind, emotions, sensations, and perceptions –, when that Energy becomes available, which is the Energy of Consciousness, that is the Energy of Kundalini.
Kundalini is another word for Consciousness. When It awakens, It operates such a radical change in that body that your way of thinking, feeling and moving in the world is something completely outside of this egoic action, this egocentric action, this activity of the “I” common to all. Then, a new Energy takes over that body-mind with Kundalini Awakening. Here, I refer to the Real Kundalini Awakening. It is the Reality of your Being that has flourished, it is the Reality of this God Consciousness that has taken over this body-mind. So, this is the Truth of Awakening of Consciousness. So, the names are different. Ramana Maharshi himself, my Master, used to say that Kundalini, Consciousness, God, and Truth are one and the same. He said, “They are different words for the same Reality, the Reality of your Being.” Words of Ramana Maharshi.
GC: Today, in this time with the Master, this game, this illusion of this experiencer is notorious for me, having an awakening here, an awakening there... But how strong this is in someone who is on a spiritual journey of search! Until, as the Master commented before, we get tired, we cry out to God, and then God reveals himself in the form of Master. Then, the game changes, the search ends and work begins... a work really of being in Satsang and leaving that Energy available to be present and see whatever presents itself.
MG: And this is so interesting, Gilson, that the Truth is so singular, it is so unique, that when It assumes this body of “Gilson,” there is no idea that anything happened... because nothing happened! Only now do you realize that you have always been What You are here and now. Never ceased to be That! It’s not a spectacular thing, it’s not a thing, it’s not an experience that you can describe, explain, name, and tell others about. There is none of that! It is something so natural, so simple, so real, like your own Being.
The Truth of Your Being is simply being what You are, What You never ceased to Be. There is nothing phenomenal, special, extraordinary about this God-Realization. It is the Truth of your Being being embraced here and now. So, you don't even care about all that language anymore. When you go public and start putting it as we do, then we use different languages, but all of this is unnecessary. All this is dispensable because the Truth is in Silence, the Truth is in your Natural State of absence of the “I,” which is something indescribable, unnamable. Only Silence makes sense here, you see? That’s right.
GC: Master, gratitude, gratitude...Our time is over. Thanks for this videocast. For those who are watching the video, leave the “like,” leave a comment. As the Master comments at the end of the videos on the channel... he says: “If it makes sense, subscribe, leave a comment, yes, leave a comment: ‘Yes, it makes sense!'” And here, in the first comment, will be the link to the Satsang group for information. There are online Satsangs, face-to-face Satsangs... So, whoever wants to experience this closeness with a Realized Being, who is totally outside of what we, of what an “I” can imagine, the invitation is made, just get in touch. Master, thank you very much! Thanks for this videocast!
MG: Okay folks, see you soon!
