Advaita Vedanta. How to achieve spiritual maturity? How to deal with the wounded ego? Restless mind.

I've come across a lot of questions, and it's interesting that these questions always revolve around something to be accomplished in time, something to be achieved at some point, something that must be there, somewhere, and not here, right now.

People have questions like: “How to achieve spiritual maturity?” I don't know exactly what they mean by spiritual or maturity. So, everyone has an idea of what it means to them; of course, particularly.

The word maturity is reminiscent of a fruit that is still green and hasn't ripened. So, the word maturity means ripeness. Now, in this sense of spirituality, what does that mean? First of all, what is spirituality? Each one also gives a very particular, very unique, exclusive meaning to this expression.

Here I want you to have a little patience as we explore this subject. As I see it, the Truth of That which is spiritual is That which is outside the known. Everything that is part of the known is still in the field of the mind. And if it can be recognized and, of course, found, here, in the context of these talks, it is not spiritual.

So, in this sense, the Truth of That which is spiritual is that Reality which is outside the known, outside the limit or limits of what is identifiable or recognized by thought. And that which is outside thought, outside the known, is not in time. Everything that is part of time, in space, is identifiable and recognizable by thought.

In this sense, here we use the expression spiritual in a very specific, very direct way. When, for example, we use the expression “the Spiritual Awakening,” we are talking about the Awakening of Something completely unknown. It's not at all what people call an awakening out there.

So, how do we achieve spiritual maturity? Note: what is spiritual is not in time. If it's not in time and space, it's not attainable, because it's not within the known. Thus, this so-called spiritual maturity here is about the awareness of the Reality of this Being. This really is the end of limitation, of illusion, of the sense of separateness.

It's not about maturing to that point. It's not about getting there. It's about verifying here, at this instant, the illusion of what is known, what is within the recognizable, what is within thought.

There is Something beyond the known, beyond thought, beyond time. This is Something that makes itself present, shows itself present when this pattern of thought as we know it, within time, vanishes.

Thus, we have an approach possible here in these encounters: the approach to the Reality that is outside the known. So we have the Reality of That which is spiritual. Not that which thought reaches, identifies, or recognizes.

The Reality of your Being is not detectable by thought, nor is it recognized by that mind. It is That which is present when there is no longer the past, present or future, since that present, past and future, notice, are notions of time that only thought recognizes. If this is within time, it is within succession in time.

The Truth of That which is God, the Divine Reality, is not something passive in time. Therefore, that which is really You, in your Real Nature, does not mature. You in your Being are Something that was not born, is not living, nor is it passive to old age, accident, illness or death. What is this Spiritual Awakening? It is the awareness of this timeless Reality, which is our Divine Nature. A verification of this Truth is, in this life, Life itself in Freedom, in Happiness.

Another common question – note the question – is: “How to deal with the wounded ego?” Notice the misunderstanding of the question here. Who is this element in you that is selling the ego to the other? Who is this observer who sees things as separate from itself all the time?

You see, we've been brought up to have this way of looking, a looking from the observer. So, we look with ideas, conclusions, evaluations, acceptances, or rejections. We look from a center that looks, which is the observer. That observer is the “I.” This “I” is the sense of someone present in the experience of looking.

You see, we have the looking and the illusion of an identity present in that looking. And when it happens, what you see is seen from a background, from an experience, from knowledge, from thought, from a conclusion, from an idea, from an evaluation. Notice, here we come across the sense of the observer, which is the “I,” the ego.

Thus, when people ask how to deal with the wounded ego... Where do you find this wounded ego? Is it out there? Whose ego? Who is it that finds the ego in the other? Do you understand the question?

Thus, this sense of “I,” which is the observer, is the one who sees an image in the other, which it calls the ego. But it is through this image that it also has, of who he is, that it looks at and sees the other. So, it's a gaze from the observer. Get that.

Everything you see or are seeing from this center, which is the “I,” the “me,” this self-image, the image you have of yourself, is dealing with the other. Our particular arrogance in this center, which is the “I,” the ego, makes us believe that it is possible to know, understand, learn how to deal with the other person's ego. But who is this one that is dealing with the other person's ego?

So, we are inside a big game of the own ego. We are seeing the other from this self-image: the image that “I” have of you and the image that you have of “me.” This is how our relationships are in the world, in life, in our so-called personal contacts. As long as this is maintained, the illusion is sustained. And if it is sustained, conflict, confusion, disorder, suffering is established.

Here we are working with you to end this condition, the beginning of something new, the emergence of a state free of this self-image, free of this sense of someone present in life, in living, in experience. A direct comprehension of this is the Truth of Non-duality.

It's the main subject here on the channel, the subject of Non-duality, Non-separation, the Truth of Advaita, the awareness of Reality, which is only one Reality present, where there is no such thing as “I” and “not I,” where there is no such thing as a sense of someone present here, at this instant, seeing the other, seeing themselves, a free mind. Not this restless mind, this chattering mind, this ordinary mind within this model of restless mind, of mental restlessness, of psychological restlessness, of psychological disorder in which we, in the ego, find ourselves.

I refer to a mind that is free from this thought pattern that is already established in us, which is this conditioned thought pattern. When this mind is present, there is a space that opens up, which is Silence, so there is stillness. And how does this become possible? By approaching the attention, the vision, the comprehension of what it is to look at all this movement of thought, feeling, emotion, perception, sensation, without putting this element present to interfere with what is seen here.

Having a look, an observation, a way of perceiving, listening, a way of perceiving without the perceiver, a way of looking without this element that looks. A verification. A direct verification of all this movement of thought in this restless, chattering mind, which makes this self-image vanishe. This allows you to look when there is this attention, which is a look free of this center, which is the “I,” the ego. At that moment, there is the freedom to look at the other person without conclusions, without beliefs, without opinions, without ideas, without images.

So, in fact, at that moment, you're learning to deal with him or her, but you're not dealing with his or her wounded ego because you're free of that self-image in you. Free, you're free of the image you have of him or her. So, at that moment, there is an encounter of a relation where the Presence of Communion, Peace, Silence and Love is established in relations. Do you see the difference?

It's not about dealing with the other person's ego, it's about getting rid of this “me,” this “I,” the illusion of one's own egocentric self-identity. So we have an encounter with Life as it is. Thus, come closer now to what we are saying here. Look at each other without the past. Notice, this is not so simple or so easy because of this habit, this model of egoic identity, which for decades has been seeing through images, which are thoughts, beliefs, conclusions, likes, and dislikes.

So, you look at the other person through this whole curtain. But at that moment, pay attention and look. Do that. Work on it. Find out what it's like to look without the past, to look without thinking, to look without these conclusions, beliefs and evaluations that the “I” has, that this “me” has. Just verify it, become aware of it, without the sense of someone, without that “I” and, of course, without that image of the other.

The presence of this is the Truth of Self-Awareness, of the revelation of the absence of the “I” itself. So a space opens up at that instant. This space that opens up is the presence of Reality, of Non-duality, which is Advaita Vedanta. This space of Non-duality is known in the Vedas as Advaita, Non-duality.

So, that's our subject here with you on this channel and also on our other channel, called “Marco Gualberto.” Later, go ahead and take a look there, we have hundreds of videos. So, we're going into this in depth with you.

In addition, we have online meetings taking place on weekends. Saturday and Sunday, we're together, going into this subject in depth with you. Through questions and answers and in this contact with Silence, we are becoming aware of this, working on it. Here in the description of the video, you have our WhatsApp link to take part in these meetings.

We also have face-to-face meetings and retreats. If what you've just heard makes sense to you, let us know in the comments: “Yes, it makes sense.” Please, leave a “like” and subscribe to the channel. Okay? And see you. Thanks for meeting us and see you next time!
