Joel Goldsmith. Awakening Mystical Consciousness. Direct experience of Meditation. Master Gualberto.

GC: Hello everyone! We are here for another videocast. Again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Gratitude, Master… once again, your presence here.

Master, today I am going to read an excerpt from Joel Goldsmith's book, called “Awakening Mystical Consciousness.” In this excerpt, Joel says the following, Master: “As long as the human mind is active, we will feel need and limitation, and we will want to have this void filled.” Master, in relation to this existential void, this suffering that is always permeating the human mind: how to fill this void, how to get rid of this suffering?

MG: The point, Gilson... once again, we enter into a completely mistaken view. Note that the idea is to fill the void. We are always feeling dissatisfied, and the common belief is that this dissatisfaction disappears when what can satisfy comes. So, our idea is about fulfillment, because when there is fulfillment, dissatisfaction goes away. However, what we realize is that this constant search for satisfaction always generates new dissatisfactions, this search for fulfillment always generates new voids, and, therefore, we live our entire lives in this search for satisfaction and fulfillment. Neither satisfaction fills us completely and definitively, nor does this void end. There will always be this lack, this pain, there will always be this void, as long as we are trying to fill this void. The path to the Realization of Truth lies in understanding the problem, and not in seeking a solution to the problem outside of it.

So, in our idea, we will achieve fulfillment, satisfaction, by finding something out there. Here, we have explained to you the importance of investigating the structure of the problem, the nature of the problem. What is the problem? The problem is the void, this void... We believe that we will fill this void. The situation is different: we need to discover the nature and structure of this void. What is this void? Why is there this sensation, why is there this feeling, why is there this lack, which, within thought, turns out as the search for fulfillment in something to fill it? What is this void? What is the nature, what is the structure of this void? This void, or this feeling of emptiness, needs to be understood. This is present because of the sense of separation, because of the sense of lack of something for an identity that feels separate. Now, what is the truth of this identity?

So, understanding the truth about this identity is understanding this void. Our search for fulfillment is a big mistake, it is a big mistake on our part. We need to discover the nature and structure of this “I,” this person, so we come across the structure and nature of this void. This feeling of separation that places you within a position of conditioning where something is missing, where you are someone to be fulfilled, to complete yourself in something, this is what sustains this condition of this void and, therefore, this external search for fulfillment so that this void disappears.

Here, when we understand the nature of the “I,” the nature of this sense of separation, we have an end to this illusory presence of this identity; and, if this is not present, there is no sense of separation and, therefore, there is no need for external completeness, because the nature of Truth, in each of us, is Complete, Full, Whole. This is the Truth about who we are when that sense of a “I,” which sees itself separate and therefore in need of something to complete it, is no longer present.

So, our work, this work of Realizing the Truth about ourselves, consists of discovering, realizing, the truth about ourselves in this moment. What is the Truth about us right now? It’s the void, it’s the feeling of separation, it’s this sense of being “someone” in this incompleteness. Becoming aware of this is putting an end to this condition. So, we need to investigate who we are at this moment, deal with this emptiness, deal with this pain, deal with this sense of separation, become aware of this identity that is always projecting itself externally into achievements, always projecting itself into fulfillment with external factors, to become aware of this “I.” We need to investigate the nature of this “I,” become aware that this is what is present and the cause of this void, this very pain, this very feeling of dissatisfaction, of non-completeness.

Contact with this pain – without separating ourselves from it in this idealization of going beyond it by finding something outside – is the work we need to do. This is part of Self-Awareness; this is part of the direct experience of Meditation. The fact, Gilson, is that we don't come into contact with pain. We are always projecting on the outside to find an end to this pain, without investigating the nature, the basis, the structure of it. The structure, the basis, has to be investigated, and we can only investigate this when we get closer to what is here.

Our training, our cultural conditioning, is to find an answer outside, always outside of the problem. Here, we are seeing with you the importance of getting closer to the problem itself, of looking at it, of confronting it, of being aware of it, without the alternative of finding an answer to it outside, and, also, without the alternative so common in us to escape it, to find a way we spare ourselves from this pain without understanding it. In general, this is what human beings have done. One is trying to escape it or finding an answer outside of it, and the answer is within the situation itself!

When we look, we verify that what is sustaining this void is the sense of a present identity, which sees itself separate, in search of something that can complete it. So, we always live in this perspective, in this expectation, in this particular vision, which is the vision of our own “I,” of the ego, of this conditioning that we receive. So, this can't be resolved! So, there is no end to this condition of incompleteness, dissatisfaction, emptiness, existential pain, because this emptiness manifests itself in different ways.

Something we have always addressed to you is the importance of not valuing names too much. Here, we have to use words and names, but these names don't help. So, it doesn't matter if we call it the pain of loneliness, existential void, or a sense of separation, or egoic identity in pain, or emotional pain, or depression, or anguish. We have many names for internal states of unhappiness, incompleteness, egoic condition. What really interests us is to come into direct contact with this, because looking closely at this is to realize that we are always investing an identity in the experience, trying to separate ourselves from it and do something with it, and this strengthens the condition of suffering, this strengthens the condition of egoic identity. So, we don't have an end to this situation in this format.

We need to get closer to this void, this pain, we need to get closer to this feeling of incompleteness and realize that we are always separating ourselves to do something with it, I repeat: either to get rid of it or to achieve something that can put an end to this condition. And here it is about approaching and abandoning the sense of an identity present in the experience itself, which is the experience of this pain, this void, or whatever name we can give to this state of conflict and suffering. To look at it without separating oneself is to discover that this experience falls apart when it does not receive this sense of an identity that separates itself to do something with it. We can explore this further with you.

GC: Master, about situation, this theme, this name of “existential void,” which is an anguish, etc., I remember that, within this story, this spiritual journey, there were many moments in which this pain came to the surface, and I remember that one time, it was said to me: “You have to find your purpose, and then your purpose will feed your soul so that this pain goes away!” And I remember that there were moments when, after a while, that pain would subside, it would lessen, but it wouldn't solve anything! After a while, this pain would surface again. So, can the Master talk a little about this?

MG: In general, what we have done is continue our lives within this model, a model learned by culture, by society, by the world. Within this history of humanity, what we learned was that we exist as a present entity. So, anything that hits us, we have to get rid of it. Anything that comes and fulfills us in some way and gives us something, some level of satisfaction or pleasure, not only can we sustain, hold onto, for this person that we are, but that is a laudable thing to do. So, we were taught to cultivate pleasure and to get rid of – or try to get rid of – pain always from a center. The center is: “me and pain,” “me and pleasure;” “I want pleasure, I reject pain”; “I need to get rid of pain, but I want pleasure”; “the more pleasure, the better.” And it's up to each of us, as people, as individuals, as entities separate from this experience, to do something.

We are always, Gilson, within this conditioning. The result of this is that it doesn't change! We spend a lifetime always carrying this sense of someone present, living experiences, always being an experiencer of those experiences and seeing ourselves as an entity separate from experiences. So, we cultivate experiences of pleasure, we reject experiences of pain. We spend our entire lives loaded with this sense, invested with this sense of identity present in life, which actually represents suffering, because this is not natural – it is something common. This sense of identity, which is the identity of “I,” lives within this condition, but this condition of “I” is a condition of incompleteness. This incompleteness is expressed as anxiety, depression, anguish, the pain of loneliness, existential void, fear... Fear with its various expressions such as: attachment, envy, jealousy, all of this is part of fear! So, the psychological condition of the “I” is this.

We face these psychological conditions and use different words to disguise that feeling, but it's still just the same old feeling of fear. For example, jealousy. Jealousy falls into a very classic category of violence, dependence, and fear, but, for us, jealousy is love. So, we are unaware of the Truth of Love, the Truth of Freedom, the Truth of Happiness. So, what we have done is live experiences by being the experiencer of these experiences, selecting the ones we want for ourselves and the ones we don't want. We never investigate the nature of this experiencer, which is the “I,” which is always within these experiences, living these experiences and passing through them! In other words, Gilson, we never free ourselves from this identity that is the “I,” the ego, this “me.” So, we do not discover the Truth of what is a life free from this aspect of duality – experiencer and experience, good experiences and bad experiences – nor do we visualize the possibility of an ego-free life, free from this center that is the “I,” which is this experiencer who lives within this principle of pleasure and pain, and completely alienated from the Truth of Love. Love is not desire, Love is not attachment, Love is not sensation, Love does not carry envy, does not carry jealousy, does not carry violence. We don't know what Love is! We confuse Love with these egoic, personal, private, human aspects of this ego-identity in the relationship of pleasure, of pleasure with the other, of pleasure with a certain sentimental, emotional fulfillment, in a relationship. This is not Love.

What I'm saying, Gilson, is that we spend a lifetime without knowing the Truth of Love, the Truth of Freedom and Happiness, of this absence of this “I,” which represents the One Present Truth, which is the Truth of God, which is the Truth of Love. So, we lack the understanding of this entire movement, which is the movement of the “I,” this “me,” this experiencer, the ego. It is the one that sustains this void. It is the one that sustains all suffering within this sense of separation. Investigating this and getting rid of this condition is the Only Truth for each of us. So, this matter of purpose, as you put it, is not for the person! Life, in itself, is the only present reality. So, Life is not the life of a person; It is the Life of Truth, it is the Life of Truth of each one of us, but not of a person present within us. This Life, yes, has Its own purpose, but It does not carry a person to give that person a purpose. This person is a fraud! Because what is this person? It is the sense of an identity that is separate from life itself. That's not true! The Truth of our Being, the Truth of your Being, is Life. That Being of yours is Life, and that is the only purpose. The only purpose of Life is to be What It is. Life, in itself, is this Completeness, because it is the Nature of God, it is the Nature of Truth.

This frustration of the human being, this pain of the human being, is the pain of incompleteness, of the egoic nature. Yes, there will always be this suffering for the human being, because as long as there is this sense of separation, as long as there is this duality, this experiencer and his experience, this “I” with this “not I,” as long as there is this idea of someone to achieve something, to accomplish something, there will be dissatisfaction, this void, there will be this unhappiness, and, of course, this absence of the Truth of Being. And, of course, in this condition, this so-called “human life” has no purpose. It is just the continuity of an identity doing things outside of itself that never completes it. So, there is no completeness in this dream of being someone and in this achievement of someone fulfilling dreams, which are projections of desires, which are achievements of the material realm.

This is all within this dissatisfaction, still within this dissatisfaction. It's simple to understand this. Everything that human beings accomplish is still part of their incompleteness. In no way this truly fulfills them, this in no way satisfies them. Everything wears out, all this so-called “happiness” found in objects, in experiences, in the achievement of projects and dreams – projected by thought, projected by the mind – is within this limitation, is within this condition of identity that sees itself separate and, therefore, in this incompleteness. All of this needs to be seen, needs to be investigated. We need to let go of this condition, then something reveals itself, when the sense of “I,” of the ego, with these egoic projections, with this illusion of external fulfillment in egocentric purposes, is no longer present.

GC: Master, within this aspect, it's interesting how, for me, I had this idea of mission very strongly... I had a mission to fulfill on Earth, this spirituality thing. And after I found the Master, the Master found me, and participating in these weekend intensives, which are the meetings called Satsangs, both online and in person, and soon all this sense of weight, of responsibility, that I had a so-called “mission,” disappeared. And it is complete freedom, because now I see how heavy it was, it felt like I was carrying a backpack full of stones, with this idea of having a mission, of having to do this, that or something else. And then, with this vision that the Master shares, in a little while, through this mysterious Grace, something happens that there is no longer this sense of having a mission, there is no longer this weight that I, Gilson, had to fulfill this or that. And it's impressive, it's just by Grace.

MG: This movement, Gilson, is the movement of the “I” itself. This search for satisfaction or to fulfill objectives, targets, and purposes, to satisfy oneself, to fulfill oneself, to fulfill oneself on some level, this is all within this movement, which is a conditioning movement that we receive. Since we were children, Gilson, we have been conditioned to the idea that Happiness or Completeness of Being in life will be achieved when we accomplish great things. And what are these great things? They are achievements that thought has projected as the achievements that will give you this Completeness, this Real Satisfaction. So, we were – putting it in different words now here – conditioned for ambition! Notice how, in our culture, this thing about ambition is well regarded, because it is when we are ambitious, according to common belief, that we accomplish great things, things that will give us happiness.

Now, in theory it is like this; in practice, you see the human being ambitious and accomplishing great things, but internally, completely empty, completely unhappy, living in a condition of superficiality, of internal artificiality, where there is great poverty of Love, Intelligence, of Freedom, and Peace. So, what we witness most are human beings with a high level of ambition and external achievement, but internally they are mediocre, stupid, unhappy, miserable people, without Freedom, without Love, completely unintelligent.

So, the truth is that we have been conditioned, within our culture, within this vision. We were taught to be envious, ambitious, greedy, attached to experiences, attached to objects, attached to ideas, ideologies, beliefs... and all of this gives us a superficiality of life, where we are, in life, carrying a life completely unhappy, problematic. So, it's no use if someone achieves fame, if they make fortune, if they acquire, if they achieve everything externally, when, internally, they remain miserable, they remain unhappy, they continue to be a person in conflict, loaded with addictions, problems, and various sufferings.

We have seen what happens to people: they experience great external achievements, they become famous, powerful, examples of external achievement, but internally they continue to be the same people, like anyone else: still envious, ambitious, jealous, attached, violent ... unhappy! None of this solves it. What is necessary for our lives is the Awareness of the Truth of this Being. This is Happiness. This is Completeness. This is Love. This is an Intelligent Life. This is a Life in Plenitude. This is a Life in Completeness. This It's Real Life.

GC: Master, gratitude for another videocast. Our time has come to end. For those of you watching the video: leave a “like” and bring a comment, a question for us to bring to the next videocast. And, mainly, for you who, when listening to the Master's speeches, if it makes sense, as the Master asks, here is the invitation to come to the face-to-face and online meetings, which are called Satsangs. It's a whole weekend in this sharing of Consciousness that the Master brings us, in this Silence, in this Stillness, and in this investigation; then, something different happens, which is speechless. So, here lies the invitation. In the first pinned comment, there will be a link to the WhatsApp group with information about the meetings.

Master, gratitude and see you soon.

MG: OK, Gilson.
