The question is: “How to deal with thoughts?” See, we are faced with a very important question. We cannot underestimate a question like this. And why not? Because in our life, if you look closely, you will see that thought is in everything.
We live in thought; we live by thought. It is the one that directs our speech, it is the one that directs our actions, it is the one that directs all behavior in relationships, it is the one that directs a large part of our feelings. So, our thinking, and this involves this model of thinking – at least thinking as we have access, as we know it – is directing our lives.
So, our actions need to be understood. We do not understand what our actions are. Our feelings need to be understood. Our emotions, the way we feel, the way we talk to him or her, the way we relate, all of this involves thoughts. We want to discover with you here, at this meeting, what this thinking means.
So, how to deal with thoughts represents what thinking is, what feeling is, and what living is. If this is not clear to you, suffering is present, disorder is present, confusion is present, disorientation is present, conflicting actions are present. And all of this is present because psychologically there is suffering, there is disorder, there is confusion, there is the absence of Intelligence; and all this due to a lack of understanding of how the mind works, of how thought works. In other words, we don't know how to deal with thought.
We don’t know how to deal with thought because we don’t understand that there is in us the sense of “someone” present in thought. This “someone” is the idea we have of a thinker, a doer, an accomplisher of things, of “someone” present feeling, of “someone” present in emotion, of “someone” present in a relationship.
Not understanding what thought is, is not understanding the movement of the “I,” which is thought. So, let's ask another question to investigate this first one. In addition to this: “What is thinking?”, which involves dealing with thought, we have to ask the question itself about what is thought.
First, we have to understand what thought is to understand what the thinker is. Why is this essential? Because without this we are alienated from the Truth of this Being. We use the expression “I” a lot and we only have the imagination of a Being. Notice how curious it is, we use the expression “I,” the pronoun I, and we have the imagination of Being. Truth is different. The only Reality is Being, and this “I” is imagination.
The Reality present in the relationship with the other is the relationship of Being, there is no “I” present in the relationship. This “I” is imagination. Not understanding that this “I” is imagination is the confusion of an identity that is the thinker thinking its thoughts, having its feelings, its emotions, its sensations, and its relationships.
The Truth of That which we are is the Reality of That which is God. The Reality of God is the Reality of Being. This is the Reality of each of us, but the imagination of the “I” is the imagination of the thinker, the experiencer, the observer, the feeler, and the doer; and our Life is situated exactly at this level, because there is no Awakening of Truth.
If Truth Awakens, if Truth Flourishes, there comes the awareness of Real Consciousness, of true Consciousness, which is Being. So, notice what we are saying: we have a consciousness common to everyone, it is the consciousness of the mind, it is the consciousness in the mind, it is the consciousness of the “I.” This is egoic consciousness, it is the consciousness of the “person.”
Observe the entire chaotic, psychological state in which we find ourselves. This is present because we are not living the Truth of Being, but rather the illusion of the thinker, the illusion of the experiencer, the illusion of this “me.” This is where this chaotic state of this uncontrolled, restless, disordered movement of thought is. This is why we ask the question “How to deal with thinking?”, because we have already realized that thought creates a lot of confusion, creates a lot of disorder. And that's simple: it's because it is the basis that guides the life of this center that is the “I,” the ego.
This center, which is the “I,” sees itself separate from the other, sees itself separate from Life, sees itself separate as being the author of actions, sees itself separate from speech as being the one who is speaking, separate from listening as being the one hearing this. All this consists of an illusion, the illusion of the present thinker. But what is this thinker? This thinker is thought itself. You want to control thought, but you are the thinker.
Then, thought itself separates itself as being the thinker to manage, to alter, change, control thought. We don’t know how to deal with thought because we don’t know how to deal with this center that is the “I.” We are not aware that this “I” that wants to deal with thought is thought itself, it is what separates itself as the thinker.
We don't know how to deal with our emotions, we don't realize that these emotions are something that happens in this body-mind, but there is no center for these emotions. This center is thought itself that creates an illusory center, which is the “I,” which wants to deal with emotions. Alright?
That's how we've been working. And why do we work this way? Because we do not know the Truth about ourselves, we do not study the movement of the “I,” which is the thinker, which is the one who separates oneself and says one is feeling, and says one got emotional, and says one is thinking, and says one is doing things.
I know this may sound strange to you at first, but if you look closely, investigate it, you will notice this duality, this “I” being the thinker, separating itself from the thought it has, this “I” being the one that feels, separating itself from the feeling it feels. This separation is what sustains the conflict that we want to get rid of through control.
So, when we ask how to deal with thought, it is because we believe that we are the one responsible for thought, the lord of the thought, and, therefore, the one who can control and manage thought. What is the truth about this? The truth about this is that we are just a memory reaction movement. This memory reaction is thought itself.
When you hear something, when you see something, when you come into contact with an experience, it is the body, the mind, the brain coming into contact with that sound, with what is appearing there or with this experience. There is no “someone” being the “I” in this contact. What we have is a response from the brain that, immediately, reacts, or after some time, a few seconds, reacts to that experience. The illusory sensation of an identity reacting is an imagination.
When a thought arises, because a stimulus arises, a visual stimulus arises, then a thought arises, an auditory stimulus arises, then a thought arises or a feeling arises; and when this appears, due to a condition of brain conditioning, human conditioning, of culture, there is the illusion of “someone” within this experience – a thought, a feeling, an emotion –, whereas, in truth, what is present is a reaction of the brain itself, of the machine itself to that instant, to that present moment due to a stimulus.
There is no such thing as a thinker, there is no such thing as one who is feeling, there is no such thing as one who gets emotional. There is a brain conditioning response and also of body and mind, but there is no “I” present. This can be seen when there is Self-awareness.
To realize the non-existence of the “I,” the non-existence of the ego, the non-existence of the center, to become aware that a thought is just a thought, an emotion is just an emotion, a sensation is just a sensation. If this is realized, as there is no separation, conflict disappears, problem disappears, the suffering disappears.
Realize the beauty of this! Thought is present charged with an idea of a thinker behind it. If thought is pleasant, that thinker wants to sustain that thought; if it is unpleasant, this thinker wants to get rid of that thought. When there is this movement, there is duality and, therefore, conflict, and, therefore, problem. We want to deal with thought, but who is the one who is going to deal with thought?
So, clearly understand this: the thinker is thought, the emotion is the one that is separate as the element that is the “I,” which claims to be emotional. This duality is a game. It is the game of the “me,” the “I,” the ego to sustain itself; it creates this movement, it sustains this movement, it practices this movement. Here the invitation is to learn to look at thought without placing the thinker, looking at the feeling or the emotion.
So, how to deal with thought? By being aware that there is no thinker, it is just a thought. All of our cultural training, of human history, has always been through the effort to deal with thought, or emotion, or feeling, or action. So, we are always supporting the idea of the “I,” the “me,” the ego, to welcome, accept that, to hold on to that experience, or to reject that experience.
So, we don’t know how to deal with thinking, because there comes the “I,” the “me” wanting to do this. Becoming aware of thought, emotion, sensation, and experience without the thinker is the real way of dealing with what is here, in this instant, in this present moment. This ends conflict, this ends problem, because this ends this duality. Is this clear?
We have several videos here on the channel exploring, investigating this with you. This model of separation, of duality, is what sustains the entire problem of the human being, all the suffering for the human being, all this confusion for the human being, and this entire illusion of being able to control thought, being the controller.
When we realize this game of duality, we are free from duality, that is the end of this duality. In India, they call it Advaita, Non-duality, Non-separation, this State of Being where You are living the fullness of Consciousness, free from the “I.” And when This is present, there are no problems with thoughts, because there is no illusion of the thinker; and if there is no illusion of the thinker, this psychological thought – because it is the only type of thought that creates conflict and problems in our life – disappears.
Then, we can deal with thought in living. We need thought on some levels. We can deal with thought, we need thought in a certain way. Your address, your name, the ability to deal with technical, functional work, this requires the presence of thought. At this level, it is necessary, it is present, but now without the center, which is the “I,” the ego, the “me.”
Then, we are freed from this model of psychological thought, which is the thinking that sustains in us envy, fear, jealousy, anxiety, anguish, depression, the feeling of boredom, loneliness, conflict, and of all problems from this center, which is the “I,” the ego, the thinker.
That's our job here. We have online meetings where we are exploring this. More than a video like this lasting a few minutes, we have two days together over the weekend here, delving deeper into this, working with you on questions and answers. So, I want to leave this invitation to you here, it is an opportunity for us to be together and delve deeper into this. Here in the video description, you have our WhatsApp group link to participate in these meetings.
In addition, we have face-to-face meetings and retreats, where we spend a few days together working on this, going deeper, becoming aware of the Truth of who we are. Then, there is the Realization of God's Truth and this is the end of this psychological confusion that thought has produced, that feelings, emotions, and this model of life centered on the “I,” on the ego have created in our lives. So, here's the invitation. If this is something that makes sense to you, leave it here in the comments: “Yes, it makes sense.” Leave your “like” and subscribe to the channel. OK? And we'll see each other. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon!
