Joel Goldsmith | The Master speaks | Work of the Infinite Way | Master Gualberto

GC: Hello everyone! We are here for another videocast. Once again, Master Gualberto is here with us. Thank you very much, Master, for your presence.

Master, today I'm going to read an excerpt from Joel Goldsmith's book called “The Master speaks.” In this book, in an excerpt, Joel comments the following: “In this work of the Infinite Way, there is only one error, which we call hypnotism, suggestion, or appearance.” Master, on this subject of illusion, what is Master's view on illusion?

MG: This illusion is the belief of an identity present within this experience. To put it in simple terms: illusion consists of the idea – which is a thought – of a thinker being the author of his accomplishments, the author of his thoughts, his dreams, his ideals, his goals, his purposes, his choices, and decisions; the sense of a present thinker seeing himself separate from all these kinds of things, being the author of these things. What is present, in fact, is thought itself being these dreams, these desires, these motivations, these intentions, these volitions. All of this is just part of thought.

The error or illusion consists of this central idea of a present identity separate from God, separate from life, separate from everything that arises, from everything that appears, and from all these projects, dreams, and so on. This is where the problem lies. The problem, basically, is the illusion of “someone” present, taking positions, making choices, having decisions, carrying out, thinking, wanting, not wanting... that is, in a state of separation, sustaining for himself every form, naturally, of conflict, because, within this model of separation, in this separation, we have problems and, therefore, conflicts that arise. It is the condition of the identity of the “I,” the “me,” the ego.

This has guided our lives towards a completely egocentric pattern of behavior, feelings, and thoughts; naturally, problematic and conflicting. So, basically that's it. This is not real! This only remains due to the dream condition that thought has produced, creating thus the illusion of a dreamer in this dream, that, in fact, is itself. This dream and this dreamer are a single phenomenon arising in this manifestation, creating the illusion of this separate center, which is this one called “I.”

When you use the pronoun “I,” you are talking about an identity that is not real, you are supporting an idea, a principle, that is completely wrong. This is where the illusion is, this is where the only problem we have is. All the diverse problems, which are innumerable, that the human being has consist of a single problem: it is this problem of the illusion of a present identity, which is this center, which is this “I,” which is this ego. If that disappears, if that dissolves, it is revealed something outside of everything that thought can identify, can recognize, can explain, can speak; exactly because this other thing is not part of this model.

Here, Gilson, we are faced with a difficulty. We are pointing to a place that doesn't exist! So, we have a challenge here: we have to point to something that is not something, to a place that is not there. It is paradoxical: we are pointing to That which is Real, and That which is Real cannot be found there. It is not something and it is not a place; however, it is present, but it does not reveal itself as long as the model of thought – which is this thought that sustains this entire illusion – is present. When there is an end to this model – which is the model of thought that supports this “I,” this ego, and, therefore, this illusion –, when this disappears, dissolves, this Reality shows itself. It is to this Reality that we are pointing. I don't know if it makes sense.

GC: Master, as I have already said in several videocasts, this vision of the Master, these words of the Master are very revolutionary. Now, sharing a little of what I have experienced close to the Master, I remember that the first time I had this vision, when I immersed myself in this Silence of the Master, I could clearly see how this “I,” this one called “Gilson,” is just a thought! It's something far outside, beyond words, it's truly unnamable, how we identify with this center and live in it, until, by Divine Grace, we can have this contact with someone who is Awake, is no longer in this dream, to be shown, in this sharing of Presence, that this center is an illusion, this “I” in experience is an illusion. And it's a Grace, it's unique, Master.

MG: In fact, Gilson, it’s not just this “I” that is an illusion, as you found out. This “I” is the one that sustains this dream! So, notice: this “I” is present in the dream, it appears with the dream. The dream appears together with it – I mean the dream of this manifestation, of this existence. For this “I,” this dream is its reality; however, the reality of this dream is the reality of this “I.” Once you are free from this “I,” you are free from this dream. So, this need to dream is what has occurred when the sense of an “I” is sustained over time. When it sustains itself in time, it appears in time – this is what we call birth. So, people are being born… Who are these people being born? Who are these people who are living? And who are these people who are dying?

All we have is a beautiful phenomenal game of a dream, where this “I,” due to the movement it builds – which is a thought’s movement of “becoming,” of the desire to become, to obtain, to achieve, to enjoy a life and of an existence, naturally, separate –, it is perpetuating itself in this time. This is what I have called psychological time. It is in this psychological time that we have been born, we are living, and we are dying. But “we” who? The illusion of a present identity.

In this encounter with the Truth of your Real Being, which is not in time, which is not part of this movement of “coming to be,” of achieving, of becoming, and, therefore, is not part of this “I”... The reality of this Being, when revealed, brings about the revelation of the end of time, of this psychological time, of this time that thought constructs. This is the end of this dream model, of separate identity sustaining itself over time. That is your end of birth, that is the end of death, that is the Reality of God revealing itself. This is the Awakening of Consciousness; this is the Awakening of your Unique Nature, of your Real Nature, of the Truth about You. Not of the thought you have about yourself, not of what society, culture, the world, philosophical, and religious books talk about you.

There, things are pointed out, just like here, in a speech like this pointing out for something, as I just said, that is not something, for a place that is not a place. So, it sounds very strange, because our entire model of thinking is a sequential model of thinking: progressive, increasing, deductive, logical, reasonable... and here we are taking a leap outside of that, saying that there is a Reality outside the known. There is a space that is not there, there is a place that is not there, there is Something that is not something.

So, having an approach to the Truth of That which is your Being is something possible when we have an approach to the investigation of what we are not or what we are in this apparent being, in this appearance of being that we are. Investigating this appearance of being – which is this being that we are in the apparent model, in the model of an identity, in the model of an “I,” of an identity that separates itself from life, that separates itself from existence – investigating this identity, this “me,” this person, realizing this whole programmed model of being someone, of psychological internal movement, becoming aware of it, this is being able to go beyond that. So, the Truth about Self-Awareness discards the illusion of this “I,” this “me,” this ego, this one who has to know something about himself, since this “himself” is not real. But it is when the emptying of this oneself, this “I”, of all this content happens – which is what gives formation to this psychological movement, this continuity in time – when this ends, Something emerges. As this Something is not part of the known, it is not something. As this Something is not part of time, it is not in a certain place.

Notice, Gilson, the implications of what we are saying. This goes against everything that, culturally, we learn. Including this so-called “religious life,” in the sense of this religiosity of organized religions. Here we are working with you on the Truth of your Being, which is the Divine Truth revealing itself. In this sense, our work points out a religious life, but not a life of religious practices, nor of religious beliefs, nor of religious customs, nor of following doctrines.

We are discovering the Truth of That We Are, which is the Reality of God present, being the Nature of your Being, the Nature of the Truth of That which is, really, you. And this is present in this new space, in this new place. So, we use speech and use known expressions, but always signaling outside the known. So, this is our work, this is our approach. Discovering the Truth of your Being is possible in the Flourishing of your Divine Nature, which is the Truth of Meditation.

GC: Master, we have a question that is related to this, from Sandra. She made the following comment: “Joel Goldsmith talks about the nature of error. Would you talk more about that?” Can the Master talk a little more about the Master's view of the nature of error?

MG: Illusion! Illusion is the nature of the error. Now, I put it my way, I want you to be patient in following it. Joel has a vision and if you are approaching these lines of ours, you may have already noticed that our way of approaching all of this may be a little different, or even very different. We are not here repeating what Joel said, nor studying what Joel said. I share with you from That which is clearly a vision here, of direct perception in understanding this Reality from this Space that has revealed itself here.

So, it's a mistake, Gilson, for us to also try to understand what the other person said. It's not what the other said, don't do that! Don't try to understand what we are saying. Go deeper, go deeper, from what we are saying to a direct vision of what you learn, what you perceive.

What I have noticed, Gilson, is that people spend a lot of time in their lives theorizing about what they read, what they listen to, what they learn in books. All of this occurs because they remain only at an intellectual level of words, with these representations of mental symbols inside the head. So, this is still part of the cultural heritage of the conditioned intellect itself. We have to let go of this conditioned intellect, we have to go beyond this intellect, and this only becomes possible when we move from what others have said to a direct perception of what they point to.

So, here, our invitation is for you to understand this in a direct way, without intermediaries, apprehending the Truth about yourself, discarding the illusion of this “yourself.” Then, you have a Revelation of That which is your Real Being. It reveals the Truth to you, communicates the Truth to you, grants you the Truth of Wisdom. So, what is this illusion? What is this error? A direct observation shows you that this is present while the illusion of an identity is sustained in living, in life. Contact with Divine Reality is possible when the Beauty of Meditation, like a Sacred Perfume, like a Divine Perfume, takes over your life, takes over your existence.

The secret to the Awakening of Wisdom, to the Truth of Revelation, consists of approaching ourselves through Self-Awareness, in this encounter with the Truth of Meditation. Then, this Enlightenment flourishes, this Awakening, this Natural State of Being, which is Intelligence, which is Love, Freedom, Wisdom, Bliss, and Peace. There are different names for this Natural State free from confusion, suffering, and problems. That is the Beauty of an encounter like this, of an invitation to dive into ourselves, into this Understanding of the Truth about ourselves. It's basically this, that's it basically.

GC: Master, could you talk a little more about this Self-Awareness? Because the Master always reiterates that it is not necessary to study the scriptures, what other masters have said, what you yourself say, but rather this study of oneself, this Self-Awareness. And it is very common to talk about self-awareness, as it is seen in general, as analyzing oneself, and the Master brings a different view on this. Can the Master talk a little more about this Truth of Self-Awareness?

MG: Self-Awareness is the awareness of how you work, it is not the purpose of learning – listen – it is not the purpose of learning from yourself who you are, as someone would put that expression out there. It's not that. Here, Self-Awareness is just discovering how to observe your reactions. So, the word “learn,” I have put it in a way that is also different from what people use out there. It is the word “learn,” the word “self-awareness,” and several other expressions. This Self-Awareness is the awareness of discarding this pattern of “you,” how you see yourself, how you show yourself to the world.

This requires approaching a perspective that is not introspection, which is not self-evaluation – self-evaluation, introspection, with the purpose of making changes in the person's behavior, in this personality. In general, people use the expression “self-awareness” in this way, knowing yourself to make a change in yourself in that person. It's not that. Self-Awareness is becoming aware of your reactions right now. Every gesture, every word, every thought, feeling, emotion… be aware of it! It is not to do something with what is being seen. There is a great Power, there is a great Presence in this attention, in this mindfulness of looking at one's own reactions of this center, which is the “I,” the ego. This is our way of learning about ourselves. Looking, just looking, without that center that is the “I.”

For example, when you look at a thought in yourself and you don't like it, it means you are not looking. You are analyzing, condemning, judging, comparing. We have done this; this is not Self-Awareness! Seeing a thought in yourself, and you don't like the thought, and you change that thought pattern, someone out there calls that “self-awareness.” It's not self-awareness! This is the modification of a model already pre-established by the ego and the ego is imposing a new model on that one. By doing this, you find a new opportunity, you learn to relate better to people, you even get a job promotion. You achieve some things with this type of self-awareness, but that's not what we're talking about here.

We are talking about the awareness of the movement of this center that is the “I,“ all this psychological formation on which the ego has sustained itself. We don't have enough time here to explore this further. We have several videos on the channel showing this. There are dozens, at the moment we already have hundreds of videos. In fact, more than these videos, a wonderful invitation is to be in an online (meeting) to understand this, not intellectually, to internally verify the Real meaning of the Truth about Self-Awareness. Becoming aware of the movement of the center, which is the “I,” without doing anything with it, just placing this Attention, this energy of Attention, of Consciousness. Recognizing that thought does not have a thinker, a feeling does not have someone to feel it, an emotion does not have someone in it, this is Self-Awareness. So, you end up with this separation, with this duality between thought and thinker, between the feeling and the one who feels, between emotion and the one who is moved. Then, the pattern of this “me,” this “I,” is broken.

This is an extraordinary way, for example, Gilson, to get rid of habits and addictions in a very natural way, bringing attention to this movement of the “I,” the ego. As I'm putting it here, we don't have any more time. People want to free themselves from addictions and bad habits, a thought, a feeling, or any other type of addictive behavior. Attention, Consciousness, Presence, this destroys this condition in a very natural, effortless way! This is Self-Awareness.

This becomes possible in this look without the observer, in this perceiving without this element that is the “I” perceiving, in this feeling without this “I” getting involved in this feeling. This approach is direct, this is Self-Awareness. When this reveals itself, there is the clear space for the Truth of Silence, of the Power of Presence that Meditation reveals. Without this, there is no Real Meditation happening; and when this is here, there is the Truth of Meditation present, already together with Self-Awareness. And another aspect of Meditation is the Silence that is present in it.

GC: Gratitude, gratitude, Master, our time has already passed. Thank you for this videocast.
