Joel Goldsmith | The Infinite Way | Christ Consciousness | Satsang with Master Gualberto

Master – This Presence of Silence, Stillness, Plenitude, of that instant and at this moment, that egoic mind is as if thrown away, as if swept away. Then, when it’s swept away, the concerns of the office, company, work, and family memories go away: everything disappears at that moment. At this instant, You are so present that you disappear.

Reality is present. It’s when there’s just the looking without “someone” looking, just the seeing without “someone” seeing. We all have moments like that, when the Presence of this Real Consciousness is present, which is What goes beyond this mental, personal, particular, egoic consciousness, of that “person.”

When this “person” – this egoic mind, this sense of “I” – isn’t present, there’s a complete emptying of all the content of the sense of “I” with its story, and at that moment, there’s only the Looking, only the Listening, only Being, only this Consciousness.

Gilson – Hello everyone!

We’re here for another videocast. One more opportunity Marcos Gualberto gives us to bring greater discernment and the experiencing of the focus of our work by discussing Joel [Goldsmith’s], which is [also] the focus on Master Gualberto YouTube Channel. Because, much more than understanding and knowing this intellectually, by the Grace of his Master Ramana [Maharshi], he [Master Gualberto] has already “reached” that Spiritual Enlightenment or the Awakening of Consciousness or – as the Master says – that Natural State of Being.

For those who don't know who Marcos Gualberto is, I've commented on other videocasts, but I'll repeat it here.

I've been on a spiritual quest for many years and in recent years focused on Joel’s studies, which ended up motivating me to create this Channel “Luz do Despertar” with the readings of Joel’s books. And in the last few months, more precisely in the middle of last year, something internal pushed me to enter a quiet moment where I warded myself off from the YouTube channel itself and the study groups.

And in that stillness, a few weeks later, I was presented with... in fact, a suggestion of a video of Marcos Gualberto talking about this topic — which is the focus of his Channel — appeared on my YouTube, talking about this Spiritual Realization, this self-inquiry. And when I listened to the first video, when I saw the first video, something touched my consciousness. I didn't understand, I didn't know what, but it instigated me to watch other videos, to watch some playlists of the channel; and this something internal, that touched me somehow, motivated me and I ended up discovering that there are these face-to-face and online meetings, which are called Satsangs.

Satsangs are intensive weekend meetings — the whole weekend — where Marcos Gualberto makes himself available for seekers to investigate what this Real Nature of God, this Omnipresent Reality, or this Natural State is.

And by participating in this intensive weekend online meeting, I was able to perceive something, “understand,” so to speak, what is beyond these words and thoughts, beyond what Joel brings us in books, beyond everything I knew, because it’s an experience, an experience that being in Gualberto’s presence, even online, I could have this perception of what this Stillness, this Silence is.

And then that attracted me to visit Marcos — the Master — in these last few months; and the closer I get, the more I see this illusion of this “me” present and the illusion, which Joel himself brings up so much — which is this “principle of the nature of error” —, the illusion of “someone” present. I have also perceived this Reality, which is this Present State, this Here and Now, this Infinite Consciousness, and I’ve already said too much.

I just have to thank Marcos, for your willingness to be here, in yet another videocast, and your availability to hold these intensive weekend meetings — both online and face-to-face — because it’s a true Grace to be in your Presence and to be able to delve into this investigation.

Coming back to our videocast, I want to read an excerpt from Joel’s book so you can comment for us, Master. It’s an excerpt from Joel’s main book, which is the book “The Infinite Way,” where Joel says: “In this state of consciousness…” — he refers to this State of Christ Consciousness — “... finite sense disappears and the vision is without boundaries. Life is seen and understood as unfettered form and limitless beauty.”

I’d like you to tell us, Master, what would this “vision without boundaries” be?

Master – You in your Being, in your Natural State of Being. It’s Something that we can’t put into words exactly what It represents, but I must point out the possibility of This.

Just for you to have an approach, you can’t have it by an idea, by the thought of a State like this. Put that way, it seems to be hopeless now. You may ask yourself: “But then, what’s he going to tell me about this state?”

The good news is that you actually know what that State is. All of us, since childhood, have had moments when the sense of an “I,” of an egoic identity, an identity that carries this mental consciousness, wasn’t present.

All of us, when we are faced with something new and, in some way, it creates a very strong impact on our mental consciousness — on our egoic consciousness — at that moment, it’s possible to have a temporary emptying of that content. At that instant, it’s possible to see without “someone” seeing; to look without “someone” looking.

We have to remember these moments after they happened, but the memory of these moments no longer truly portrays the actual moment experienced.

When you find yourself, for example, looking from a mountain at the valley or when you are on the edge of a beach looking at the sea with a blue sky in the background and the sun giving that reflection over the waters, at that moment, with the sound of these waves reaching the sand, this is the moment of such great impact within our mental consciousness that it can’t support this Presence of Silence, of Stillness, of Plenitude of that instant; and at that moment the egoic mind is as if thrown away, it’s as if swept away. Then, when it’s swept away, the worries of the office, company, work, and family memories: everything disappears at that moment. In this instant, You are so present that You disappear.

Reality is present. It’s when there’s just the looking without “someone” looking, just the seeing without “someone” seeing. We all have moments like that, when the Presence of this Real Consciousness is present, which is What goes beyond this mental, personal, particular, egoic consciousness of that “person.”

When that “person” — that egoic mind, that sense of “I” — is not present, there’s a complete emptying of all content of the sense of “I,” with its story, and at that moment there’s only the Looking, the Listening, the Being, only this Consciousness. (trecho repetido no início)

People appreciate such states so much that they travel, look for places, the countryside, the beach, the mountains, they go climbing, mountaineering, walking, hiking, everything, in fact, in search of that moment, which is the Natural Moment of Being without the “I,” the “me,” without the ego.

That, Gilson, is something natural in all of us. At that moment, you are facing the Nature of Pure Consciousness, since the “I” is not present. It lasts for seconds or a few seconds, and then the mind comes back with thoughts, memories, and story, and that moment is gone. So, we live as supplicants or beggars for such moments. That’s why we travel, go hiking, mountaineering, and walking, we go to the beaches, and travel to new places, just to experience the moment where the sense of “I” is not present.

So, people use the expression “Oh, I need a distraction,” that is, they are so unbearable with themselves that they can't tolerate themselves anymore. Hence, they have to find a moment where the sense of “I” is not present, then, they take a trip. When they get there, they get into trouble; they argue with their husband, with their children, and they create turmoil and that is gone, that moment is gone because of the sense of “I” you carry wherever you go.

Here, Joel is communicating to us, in this speech, the possibility of this Natural State of Consciousness, where this is possible, here and now, at this moment. What I have to say to you, within these meetings, is that this is your Natural State, a State Free of stress, anxiety, fear, desire, and confusion. It’s an Indescribable State, where the sense of an “I,” the sense of “someone” is not present. It’s your Natural State, as I call it.

Some people call it Consciousness, Enlightenment, or Awakening, but it’s You in your Free State from the sense of “I.” The problem is that we don't have the slightest idea that this is something possible here and now, regardless of whether or not we are on a beach or on a trip. You need to discover your Natural State which is Love, Happiness, and Peace, here and now, regardless of what is happening around you. That’s when you don't live in the sense of a present “I,” within an experience, anxious, distressed, stressed, stressful, and worried.

Every external situation is not what matters. It’s always the inner movement giving you the illusion of a stressful situation, a difficult situation. It’s always the weight of the present “I.” Once free of that weight, which is the sense of “I,” this contemplation, this State Free from the sense of “someone” present, is your Natural State.

Gilson – Master, just to illustrate for us “who are on this journey,” the Master himself has already reported in other videocasts that he had a process of self-investigation of this work of being present. By the guidance of your Master Ramana, for twenty-one years, even having experiences like, of course, the Master said, the human being eventually has, but in that intensive work with your Master Ramana, you had experiences and you came out of them, until, by an act of Grace — that Grace that is a Mystery — as the Master reports on the blog (marcosgualbertosatsang.blogspot.com), the explosion of the bomb happened, where this Natural State settled. If the Master could talk a little bit about that.

Master – There’s a point here, Gilson, I consider very important: it’s the understanding of what I’ve just said. People take trips, seek places they've never been, take walks, go on excursions, and go to these places, which are new places that impact their sense of ego, very strongly, and the sense of “I” is kind of removed temporarily. I want to give a warning here: this movement is, in fact, the search of human beings for Peace, Happiness, or the Truth of their Being. But that movement itself becomes one more mechanism of escape and here it’s very important to understand this, if you are committed to Realizing God, the Truth of your Being, in this life. There’s no point in still continuing this movement.

We need to discover it in our lives, in our daily lives, going to the office, to the doctor’s office, to the factory, taking care of the children, dealing with business, going to your industry, in short, wherever you work, wherever… no matter who you have to deal with daily. In this environment, it’s in this context – work, society, world – that you need to discover in yourself your Natural State of Being Pure Consciousness, Free from this sense of “I.”

As long as we continue this escape or running-away movement to temporarily have states like this, the work won’t continue. Yes, in this particular case of Gualberto, we had moments like that. You have moments like that. You go through moments like that through meditation, through some technique, some practice, but in Gualberto’s particular case, things were a little different.

You have to find out what True Meditation is in practice, in living, dealing with your wife, your family, work, business, life, and with people that Existence puts around you. Some [people] are nice and some are not. But to whom are they not pleasant? And who are they being nice to? It’s always for a sense of a present “I” and this “I” must be seen.

It’s not the situations that stress us out, it’s not the people that upset us, it’s not the work that leaves us in that condition where we have to travel later to forget all that. It’s not that! It’s the condition of this sense of a present “I.” So, our invitation is for you to discover, through the True Meditation in practice, in living moment by moment, what it means to remain Free from identification with that sense of “I” present within this or that experience, in this relationship with this or that person.

For example, we have a relationship with people based entirely on the beliefs we have about who they are. This is a completely wrong relationship, based on the purely egoic principle of judgment, evaluation, and comparison in us, a self-projection. We have images of the people we’re dealing with, so they cause stress or problems for us, which is not true.

It’s the sense of “I” in us that is the problem in our relationships. If we are freed, here and now, from that movement of the ego always suspicious, afraid, always projecting its own problems onto the world and others, we truly learn to deal with Life as it Is, with people as they really are, without that sense of a present ego. That’s when it’s possible, when it becomes possible, to look, to speak, to listen without an “I.”

An ego-free state is possible here and now when we discover the art of Being Consciousness. Then, what becomes present on a hike or by a lake watching the waters of the river or a sunset becomes possible here and now, inside your doctor’s consulting room, your office, the factory where you work, in relationship with the world around you.

So, we have to discover that it’s not what is outside that is the problem but the sense of a present “I.” This is the problem, it’s always the sense of an “I” present. It’s when it’s not present that this State Free from the sense of the ego, of the “I,” shows itself as Peace, Freedom, this Indescribable thing that Is Being, Being as Pure Presence there, at that moment, without “someone” present.

Does it make sense? I ask: does it make sense?

Gilson – Makes sense. I even want to read a comment that Rafael Batista posted here on the Channel, [he] also identifies with me and speaks like this: “Gilson, I come here to give my testimony. I confess that I was resistant when I saw you were bringing Gualberto to the Channel – I make it clear that I didn't know him. Criticisms emerged, aspects of my ignorance of the Truth. Today, however, persisting, I see clearly that I was wrong. Sharing the Consciousness of Truth in him has raised my consciousness as well. Everything has become clearer and the perception of the Real is more present. Thanks for the work. Thanks.”

Bringing his comment, Master, I even want to ask: what is it, Master, this sharing of Consciousness that exists in the presence of a Realized Being?

Master – This is very basic. It’s very simple. There’s only one Consciousness. There’s no Realized Being outside of what we are. There’s only one Being here and that Being is always Realized, that’s the point. So, you’re not here listening to someone else, you’re just listening to Yourself.

A Realized Being is the outward expression of your Divine Nature, your Essential Nature. So, the expression “sharing Consciousness…” We are always within the limitations of a language to say something.

Actually, it’s the Revelation of this One Presence Revealing Itself to Itself. So, the contact with a Realized Being is the most beautiful, most extraordinary thing. It’s a Truly Unspeakable, Indescribable Miracle what it represents because you are simply before Consciousness, the Real Consciousness that is the Nature of your Being. You are before Yourself. You are before the Source.

You are listening to What You Are, seeing Yourself. So, when there’s this contact and this internal maturity is, at that moment, ripe and ready, this reveals itself as the Own Consciousness of God saying, speaking, listening, seeing, and being seen. In India, they call it Darshan – the seeing and being seen, the looking and being looked. It’s God looking at Himself; God listening to Himself. So, you used the expression “sharing of Consciousness.” Yes, it’s the communion of one Single Reality present.

There’s nothing here that I am saying that, deep down, you, internally, don’t know yet. But it’s a knowledge that far surpasses any intellectual, verbal, or book knowledge that you, in the intellect, have acquired throughout this life.

This speech communicates to you something outside of books. It’s not something that sounds new to you. You recognize that because That IS what You Are and you never cease to Be. The good news is that you don't need to read books to discover this; you just need to study yourself to see this Revelation present itself. And the beauty, Gilson, of standing before a Realized Being is that He Is What You Are, just that, and He can only tell you what is actually already within you as the Truth you bring. So, it’s an encounter of Love, Happiness, it’s an encounter of God with God. This is what you just called “sharing Consciousness,” this Darshan, this looking and being looked, seeing and being seen.

Gilson – In fact, Master, that’s the name of the meetings, isn't it? Satsang. If the Master can explain.

Master – The word “Satsang” means: “Sat” means Being, Truth, and “Sang” means meeting; the meeting with “Sat,” is the encounter with the Being. So, this is an often-used expression in India when you come across a Realized Being, He or She IS this Truth you are looking for. Only you are looking for it outside and now you’ve just come across It externally, in a human form that IS the Truth you are looking for within you. Then, Satsang means “encounter with the Being” or “encounter with the Truth.”

This is often used in the sense of meeting an Awakened Being, an Enlightened Being, or the One who Realized God, or whatever we want to call it. So, this is called Satsang because it’s a time when you are just there to look and be looked, see and be seen. He won’t teach you anything, a Realized Being has nothing to teach you, in fact, before Him you will unlearn.

As for unlearning, perhaps there’s a lot to unlearn, but there’s nothing to learn: this is Satsang.

Gilson – I laugh Master because, as I’ve mentioned in other videocasts, right at the beginning, in the first Satsangs with the Master — the first intensive meetings — the mind is programmed to want to learn, understand, learn and it was, I think, around the fourth or fifth meeting…

Master – For the ego, this is a frustration.

Gilson – It’s frustrating because it breaks in the middle, in the middle. It has nothing to learn, including everything that “I know” is what prevents me from seeing this Reality. This is funny.

Master – Your Real Nature doesn't need to know. It doesn't seek to know, doesn't want to understand, and doesn't need to. Your Real Nature Is the Nature of God, the Nature of Love, Happiness, of Pure Intelligence.

Gilson – Master, Joel himself says that it’s this illusion, which is nothing outside, but it’s this illusion that is an illusion in the mind itself — that the mind creates — of something separate, this duality, which, in fact, is just a thought.

Master – The whole work consists in the cessation of that thought, that “I.” That “I” is creating all the confusion. This “I” is the one who knows, this “I” is the one who wants to know, who wants to discover, who wants to achieve, to do, to undo. It’s this “I” that is depressed, anguished, afraid, and angry. It’s this “I.”

When this “I” – which is this thought – ceases, the sense of identity disappears. What remains is What never ceased to be present.

Gilson – This is the only One Reality, isn't it Master?

Master – Being-Consciousness-Bliss, the Nature of Love, Peace, Truth, the Truth of God.

Gilson – I'm already doing a “Namaste” here because our time is coming to an end, Master.

But just gratitude for this Grace to be able to guide us to “see” this falsehood that the “I” presents itself. The more we see this illusion, the more Reality shows itself. So, just gratitude. Gratitude. Again, the request for people who are watching and have been following is to leave a like, to make comments with questions, and, feeling something else, to come closer. Get closer to that work, to that self-inquiry, to yourself, to that True Self. Gratitude, Master.

Master – See you!
