The subject with you here is: what is the thought? There is another question: what is life? Let us get closer to this again here on the channel; let us investigate this with you. We are before something absolutely fascinating to investigate; however, it seems to be quite simple to have an approach to it. It is quite paradoxical; there is a way to approach this and to have a very simple and basic vision of this thing called “life,” called “thought.” And yet, we come across something paradoxical, because we are not before something so simple, this issue of what life is and what thought is.
So, it is simple and not; so, it is paradoxical. Paradoxical in the sense that you need to be aware of it in a direct way. Putting this into words is not complicated. What gets complex – and therefore paradoxical – is becoming directly aware of this. That requires work in ourselves, because, theoretically, conceptually, and verbally, no answer to these two questions proves sufficient. We need to become aware of this directly, in an experiential way, understanding how we function.
So, let us start with thought: what is the thought? Put it very simply, this moment here and now, for example, is a moment. These words are being put in this experience, this moment of listening to this speech; you record a part of these words. When we have experiences, we record these experiences, especially if they interest us, we record them. Then, what is the thought? Thought is a record you have inside, a register of remembrances, memories, and images. Thus, you record images and ideas. Thoughts, words, and images recorded – this is thought.
So, what is the thought? It is the recording of images and ideas, words, and perceptions of the movement of objects. Then, this memory record, in memory, the stored collection is thought. So, what is the thought? Thought is what is registered in you. This thought manifests itself; once the opportunity presents itself or when challenged, it presents itself. Then, for example, if I ask what is your name? That is a very new, recent memory. You have a lot of skill and practice in answering your name because it often happens during the month: you sign papers, someone asks you your name, and you are always in contact with people calling you by your name, and all of this is a reinforcement of remembrances and memory. That is how recent memory works. When it occurs, thought is challenged, and thought as a record, already kept there, shows itself.
So, this is how we react psychologically, through thought, through memory, with this model. Thought is the expression of the memory record. When this register reacts, we have thought expressed. So, we function in life based on thought; our movement of existence is based on thought. So, this is thought.
Now, we have a problem here with the issue of thought. Apart from this objective, practical thought that we have just placed here, which does not present any problem, there is no problem with it for each of us, we have a model of thought that supports this “me,” this “I,” this ego, this identity I believe I am. When you hurt, upset, offend me, this is registered in this “me,” this “I” that is registering this hurt, this offense, this pain, this sadness. This “me,” this “I,” always reacts when challenged. So, we are now before a problem. Thought is not only registered in an objective, practical, and direct way – and when it acts, it can act in a practical, direct, and objective way for very simple purposes in life, but it can also act at the service of this protection of the “I,” the ego, this entity we believe we are. Then, here we are already faced with a problem, and a very serious problem, in fact, with the biggest problem of all, which is the existence of this “me,” this “I,” whose existence is based on thought. A thought of personal, private self-protection – centered on a false center we call the ego. That is the identity of the person. You believe you are someone; that someone is the ego, that is the “me,” the “I.”
So, notice what a strange thing, at the same time as an interesting thing, happens to us: thought speaks to us – as if it were a memory – it reports to us, it gives us the certainty of an identity that is this “me.” In fact, it is just thought itself creating and protecting this identity, which is this thinker. However, this thinker is a projection of thought and we are identifying ourselves with that. Then, there is this idea of someone present who is the thinker, “I,” the experiencer, the one who has a name and a story. However, we are facing a mistake, because this “I” is the illusion of an identity present in living, in experience, which sustains its identity through thought, in this idea of being the thinker, the experiencer, someone present. This is confusion, disorder, and suffering.
The one in you that is distressed, depressed, carries desires, fears, gets stressed, and all kinds of psychological disorders is the “I,” the “me,” the ego, this center. So, apart from the practical thoughts we have within us, which are very objective memories – the address of your house, your name, your professional skill – all of this is part of thought, of knowledge, of a memory stored in this mechanism, in this body-mind. But there is also this illusory identity, which is the “I,” which has an enormous amount, an extraordinary number of memories and remembrances of a totally false center, which is the center called “me,” the thinker, the experiencer that is always seeking to maintain its continuity through thought, projecting itself into a time idealized by thought itself. Then, the expressions “I was,” “I am,” and “I will be” are within this center, which is the “I,” the ego.
Our life in the ego is confusion, suffering, disorder, misery, anguish, and fear. So, investigating the nature of thought, abandoning the illusion of identity present in this model of thinking, feeling, and acting, of getting emotional, of moving, abandoning this is to go beyond the “I,” the ego. It is to discover something outside the mistaken movement of this psychological being we believe to be. When we ask, “What is life?” There is only one real answer to this question when we discover that life is present; the Truth of life is present when the sense of this “I,” this illusory center, this character that is the ego, is no longer present.
So, there is no answer to what life is as long as this sense of “I,” of ego, is present. Yes, we have an explanation of what life is in this sense of “I” and ego: it is the life of the mistake of this character; it is the life of this false character; it is the life of this false identity; it is the life of this character. Then, what is life as we know in the ego? Properties, possessions, name, title, envy, jealousy, desire, control, the pain of loneliness, depression, anguish... desire, fear, confusion, misery, disorder, violence… that is the life of the “I,” of the ego, of this false identity. That is what we know as life.
It is very curious because we fear losing this life. This life is the life of the known. Obviously, in this life, we also have pleasure, satisfaction, and accomplishment... We have some moments of great fulfillment – but all of this occurs at the level of the “I,” the ego, which always lives after that in a thirst for more, in a search for more, in this desire of having more and this fear of losing it all. So, we also have another point in this aspect of this life as we know, which is the life of the known in the ego, in the “I,” which is fear. The fear of not having more, of not achieving, of being deceived, betrayed, losing, dying, the fear of that not being here afterward.
So, there is this element in the ego, in the “I.” Fear is something sustained within this attachment, possession, and subjection to this search for more or this concern about not having more. All these maintain fear for this “me,” this ego. It occurs because the ego is nothing other than this name, this possession, what it has, controls, dominates, fears, or desires. That is an integral part of this element, which is the “I,” the ego. Then, fear is present. In fact, fear and desire are just one thing for this “me,” this ego. I do not know if this is clear to you here or if it is very confusing. Everything we call life in the “I,” in the ego, is this movement within the known.
Here, we are signaling Real Life revealing itself when the “I,” the ego in its movement, is no longer present. So, yes, there is a life possible, just as there is a possibility of Liberation from this movement, which is the movement of thought that sustains this psychological time. When thought is just in its place, this sense of a psychological “I,” which is the ego, is no longer present. Thus, we have a Real contact with the Truth, what I have called “Real Thinking.” Real Thinking is present when the model of the “I” thinking is not; then, we have Real Thinking. We do not know this, in reality, this is outside the known. This Real Thinking is the presence of the Truth of Intelligence, the Truth of Love, the Truth of Peace, the Truth of Life, the Truth of God. It is What is present when the sense of “I,” the ego, is not.
So, investigating the Truth about who we are is understanding how the human mind works. That is the end for this thinker, this experiencer, this person who observes the world based on conclusions, beliefs, ideas, and thoughts. That is the end for the observer. Then, we have the possibility of the Awakening of the True Consciousness of this Real Being we are, in this Real Life that the “I,” the ego, does not know.
That is the purpose here within this channel: we are pointing out the possibility of the Awakening of Wisdom, the Awakening of God, the Awakening of Life, your Real Nature, and the Truth of your Being. That is our work here within this channel. We have these meetings on the weekends; you can find our WhatsApp link in the video description to go deeper into that.
