Advaita Vedanta. The observer and observed thing. How to deal with thoughts? Obsessive thought.

We are going to discuss with you, here, the end of this illusion of separation. Something present within each one of us is sustaining all this complicated life that we are living, that we are going through.

People want to get rid of suffering, for example. They ask: “How do I get rid of suffering?” They want to get rid of thoughts that generate worries, problems, emotional disorders, such as anguish, anxiety, and depression. So, they ask: “How to deal with thoughts?” They want to deal with thoughts because they want to get rid of this quality of thinking. So, here, with you, we will have an approach to this issue of the end of this internal psychological movement within us, of separation, of duality.

This psychological duality, the Sages in India call this duality dvaita. This sense of separation is created and sustained by thought in us; the separation between the observer and observed thing. This observed thing may be afflictive, conflicting thoughts; that thing observed could be suffering, it could be fear, it could be this or that problem. And this observer is this center, which is the “I,” the ego, this sense of “person” present, who has the problem.

So, let's investigate with you here the end to this psychological condition of duality, of dvaita. When the end to this duality occurs, we have Advaita, Non-duality. This is straight from the Vedas, from the scriptures of the Indian Sages.

But leaving aside every concept and idea, leaving aside the words, the expressions, like “Advaita” – straight from Vedanta, it is there in Advaita Vedanta –, leaving aside these expressions, we can go directly to a Real understanding of the meaning of this, here, at this moment. And, thus, we can become aware of the end of this separation.

Then, we have an end to the problems, because we have an end to this sense of an “I,” of an ego, of an identity that separates itself to sustain the problem. That's exactly what we're saying: the problem is sustained when there is this separation.

Life is as it is. There is no problem in life. Life has an enigmatic, strange, mysterious, indescribable form of expression, but this is the perspective of thought about life. Life is as it is. But we have this element, which is the “I” element present, that when faced with life as it is, with the challenges it represents, this sense of an “I” sees itself threatened, sees itself challenged, sees itself with problems, because it sees itself as a separate entity. Are we together?

Can we eliminate this separation? Between two objects there is a space. Is it possible to eliminate this space? When we eliminate this space, it does not necessarily mean that the objects disappear. They can still be present, but without a space. There is an entirely new quality of space, an entirely indescribable space when life is happening, and there is a relationship between two things, and we have the presence of this new space.

How is it possible for this new space to emerge, which is not the space that sustains this duality, but is a Non-dual space? So, we have a new relationship. Between you and me, yes, a relationship is possible without the illusion of an identity here, without the illusion of an identity there. So, this contact, in this new space, is the contact of Non-duality, of Non-separation. That’s when there is no problem, there is no suffering, there is no fear, there are no such afflictions created by thought.

This is what we are dealing with here, with you, showing you that it is possible, yes, a life free from this duality, this separation. A life like this has the perfume, the beauty of the presence of God's Truth; so, it carries this perfume of Love in relationships. So, these two things are not exactly two things. There is one present reality. The forms are different, but the Reality is one, unique.

We are unaware of this. And it is natural to be so because here we are dealing with you about Something Unknown, which is possible for your life, but it is unknown to this model of thought, how you work, how we learned to function out there, where there is this “I ” as a separate entity from that “you.”

Realize the beauty of what we are saying here. When you come across an experience of this quality, in that experience... When you are, for example, in front of a flower, you see a flower in the garden, or a tree in the field, when you witness a scene from nature, like a bird in the air, there is no separation between that look and that bird, and that tree in the field, and that flower in the garden. There is no separation. For two or three seconds, there is no other space except this space of Non-duality.

See, you did not become the flower, nor that tree, nor that bird. There is an apparent separation of forms, but psychologically there is no separation. For two or three seconds, that is an instant of Beauty, of Stillness, of Grace. The ego is not there. There is no psychological concern, no distress, no suffering. There are no negative thoughts, no repetitive, obsessive thoughts. For two, three seconds, there is no duality. There is the presence of Advaita, of Non-separation.

We all know it, we have experienced it, we have lived it. Of course, now this is just a memory of something you went through. No, actually, you didn't go through that. What is present in this moment is a memory, a remembrance, in fact, an imagination of what really happened in those three seconds, because you cannot have a clear memory of those three seconds. You know there was something there; this Something was indescribable, it was the Silence, the Beauty, the enchantment, the absence of the “me,” the “I,” the ego.

So, what is present here and now, is a remembrance. Thought is seeking, again, to try to grasp or understand those three seconds. It was not there. So, the memory you have is that something happened. Notice, this happens to us every day, but we don't realize the importance of these moments. These moments are signaling the presence of Something outside the ego, outside this duality, outside this separation, outside the “I,” outside the ego.

So, to the question: “How to get rid of suffering?” By eliminating the illusion of duality, of separation, of this “me,” this “I,” this ego. This is something real. It becomes possible here and now, when you discover the art of Self-awareness, the awareness of Real Meditation.

Self-awareness is the emptying of this psychological content of a present identity. It is this psychological content that sustains this duality, this separation, because there is the illusion of a thinker behind remembrance, memory, thought, sensation, and experience.

So, it is the illusion of this thinker that supports duality. When there is an emptying of all this psychological content, due to the approach of the Truth of Self-awareness and this awareness of Meditation, of Real Meditation – here on the channel we have a playlist delving deeper into this with you.

What is the Truth of Self-awareness? Not what some people call “self-awareness” out there. And what is the Truth of Real Meditation? Once again, not what some call “meditation” out there. Here, it is not about a meditation practice, a technique, a meditation system, but the awareness of Truth, here and now, of the absence of duality, of the awareness of the movement of separation between thought and thinker, between the observer and observed thing.

The truth about this, the end of the illusion between the observer and observed thing, between the thinker and thought, this brings the emptying of all this psychological content of this ego-identity. So, we have the awareness of the end to suffering, to this suffering of the “I,” of the ego.

Having an approach to the Truth of your Being is having an approach to Silence, Freedom, Love, Peace, your Divine Nature, your Essential Nature. The expression here is Advaita, Non-separation, Non-duality. So, in Vedanta, in the sacred Indian books, Sages have been dealing with this for millennia, this true possibility for each of us of a life, of an existence, without this “me,” without this “I,” without the ego.

So, when someone wants to get rid of suffering, they do not understand that this “someone,” as there is no separation between the observer and observed thing, since this observed thing is suffering, and this observer is the one who suffers, which is the sufferer, since there is no separation between suffering and the sufferer, you see, there is no separation between the one who suffers and suffering: the two are together.

You cannot separate suffering from the sufferer, because when there is no suffering, there is no “someone” suffering. When there is no thought, there is no “someone” thinking. So, when there is thought, the thinker is present. When there is suffering, the sufferer is present. So, there is no such separation.

Since there is no such separation – notice this – when there is an end to this center – which is the “I,” the observer – the observed thing dissolves. This observer is the one who suffers, who is the sufferer, and the observed thing is the suffering.

Look at yourself and you will realize that the suffering present in you is present because of thought. When you remember something you lost, you experience suffering. Without the memory of something lost, nothing has been lost, because “someone” is not present, that “me” is not present. There is no one present without the remembrance. There cannot be a thinker without thought.

Notice how simple all of this is, but at the same time it is quite delicate, because the thought addiction in you is sustaining the thinker and therefore sustaining suffering. So, it is the thought addiction in you that is sustaining this whole problem of suffering created by thought – intrusive thoughts, obsessive thoughts, bad thoughts, negative thoughts.

“How do I get rid of negative, bad, obsessive thoughts?” Anguish is sustained by thought. Anxiety is sustained by thought. “How do I get rid of anxiety?” Anxiety is thought. Thought, you see, creates and sustains the future. So, it sustains anxiety. It creates and sustains the future, so it sustains fear.

If there is fear, it is because thought is producing the future. It's thought that is telling me about something that could happen that I don't want. What is this “I”? It’s the thinker. But this thinker is already thought. Investigating all of this is fundamental to the end of suffering, to the end of anxiety, to the end of depression, anguish, and all these problems linked to the illusory present identity.

So, our work here consists of this investigation, this discovery, this observation. We have been working on this with you here. We are proposing to you a direct work so that, in this life, you realize your Natural State of Being of Pure Consciousness, so that you live in this life in this Awakening, in this Flourishing of Presence, of Consciousness.

How to achieve Awakening, how to attain Enlightenment, how to Realize your Natural State? That's what we're focusing on here on this channel. We have online meetings on Saturdays and Sundays. There are two days where we are working on this with you, online. So, it always happens on weekends. Here you have, in the video description, the WhatsApp link to participate in these meetings. All you have to do is come in and join the group.

In addition, we have face-to-face meetings and also retreats. If this makes sense to you, leave your “like” here, subscribe to the channel and leave here in the comments: “Yes, it makes sense.” OK? And we'll see each other. Thanks for the meeting and see you soon!
