The subject here with you is: what is life? What is the relationship between what we can call life and Spiritual Awakening? What is the relationship between living and the freedom of Being? This is our subject here in the channel.
We are working with you to end the illusion, the illusion of this person, of this “I.” We have an idea, a concept, an image about us, a model of thought that makes us live this so-called “life” and particularize this life within this format, as we believe that life is, as we believe that we are in that context. Therefore, we have this life of our own, this particular life, which is this life of the “I.” Here I want to explore with you this question of life, so the question is, what is life? And here I no longer refer to that particular life of the “I,” to that particular life of the “person,” but to life. We have this idea of existing as people having a personal life.
This life consists of actions of all kinds, relationships of all kinds, relationships with people, relationships with ideas, relationships with objects; actions of all kinds too, talking is an action, feeling is an action, thinking is an action, doing is an action, gesturing, for example here, is an action, listening is an action. Notice that what we call “personal life” is the life of “someone” present in this movement of relationships and in this movement of actions. This “my” life is a life centered on one identity, which is the egoic identity. So, what we have called “life” cannot be the Reality of the Totality of life. It is about this Totality of life that I want to talk to you here, at this meeting. So, when the question “What is life?” arises, it is natural that we are referring here to this Totality of life, and not to this particular life of the “I,” which is the life we know.
In general, we say that we are alive, living life and what we mean by that is that we are in a world of very particular, very personal actions and relationships, and that is not the Totality of life. Here on this channel we are working with you to end the illusion of this particular life, which is the life of the “I.” Life is something much bigger than this idea, than this belief, than this concept of life that we have, personal life, particular life, actions in life and relationships in life. So, our relationships with objects, with people, with ideas, when examined well, we will realize that it is something very limited. What we call “life” is in conflict, is in contradiction, is within a scope or circle of limitation. The same goes for our actions. Our actions are self-centered, they are centered on the “I,” so we are always laden with a weight, with fear, with contradiction, with conflict, because an action that is born from that particular center, which is the “I,” is an action of that nature. So, I want to examine this with you here. What are these actions and what are these relationships in this so-called “my life,” which is the life of the “I"? Look into yourself and you will see what we are saying.
Our actions in this relationship with objects, our actions in this relationship with people or based on these ideas are actions that are born from an internal conditioning, from a background of memory. We don't have a movement of action free, here and now, because all present action is born from this background of memory, from remembrances, already from a past history, which is the history of the “I,” of this “me,” and to that we are calling “life,” the life of action. So, we are active in the world, but in an egoic quality activity, an egocentric quality activity. Thus, there is no Real action in Totality. We don't know what life in its Totality is, because we are always trapped in this circuit of the “I,” in this circle of the “I.” So, our actions take place in this format, within this ego, this personal posture of an “I,” of an entity as we see ourselves, a separate entity; separate from these objects in these actions, separate from these people in these actions, we separate ourselves from these ideas in these actions.
Thus, our actions centered on this “I” are actions that are loaded with conflict, because they are sustained in this sense of separation, where there is this idea of this living “person,” this living “I,” in this contact, in this action. In the same way, all our relationships are taking place within the same situation, on this same basis – our relations, too, with objects, our relations also with people, our relation with ideas. What is this “I” in motion? What is this ego in movement? A movement from the past, from memory. We are always driven by the “I” motivation, by the motivation of our memories, our own self-centered, personal, private stories. So, this quality of consciousness present in our relations, in our relationships, as well as in our actions, has the quality of self-centered consciousness. This condition of consciousness I have called “I” consciousness, egoic consciousness. This self-consciousness in us is something very particular, separating us and distancing us from this Reality that is life in its Totality.
Here we approach to investigate the nature of the “I” and therefore the nature of this egocentric action and this particular and personal relationship of the ego. Once this investigation takes place, once we get close to it for real, once we know how to realize it, how to get this Real approach, we can go beyond the “I,” beyond the ego. People wonder, ask themselves and ask others how to go beyond suffering, so we look for an therapist, we look for a psychologist, we look for a specialist to help us so that this suffering ends, but we do not see the dimension of this suffering, the depth of this suffering, where it sustains itself and what is the basis of this suffering – I refer to this existential suffering of this so-called “my life,” because, notice, it is only in this “my life” and in this “my personal existence” ” that suffering is present.
This psychological suffering, this emotional suffering also assumes physical expressions and is something that permeates our life, the life of the “I,” the life of the ego. So, the moment comes when we seek help, because we can no longer bear this condition – or we believe we can no longer bear this situation of suffering – but we remain on a periphery, on a surface. We never go beyond this periphery, this surface, we never go deeper into this issue; we never investigated or studied ourselves to find the basis, the root of this condition of psychological, emotional and also physical suffering of our existence, of our particular life. In fact, we have never investigated that. Here we are pointing out the way to the Awakening of Consciousness, Spiritual Awakening, to that awareness of the Truth of your Being. This Being of yours is the realization of Reality, this is the answer to that question: “What is life?” We can put it into words here, but that won't work, it won't solve. It is necessary that you go deeper and leave this surface and discover in yourself what we are putting here.
What we are saying is that life in its Totality is not this particular life of the person you see yourself, the person you believe yourself to be. So, the answer to the question “What is life?” is the same answer to the question “What is Awakening?” or “What is Spiritual Enlightenment?” We have the same answer here, but it cannot be intellectual, it cannot be a verbal formulation, a set of words; it cannot be a theoretical concept, a verbal concept. It is necessary that you enter into the Truth of this revelation about you, here and now, then the end of this particular life of the person becomes possible, this particular life of the “I” in its particular movement of egocentric action and relationship that is based on images, a set of memories or remembrances of the past occurring now, happening in this contact with people, with objects, with situations that arise.
This is our job here, understanding this is fundamental for a life in its Totality, for a free life. So, to get to know yourself, study yourself, the vision of yourself, what goes on inside each of us. What is this set of images, memories and remembrances that is now present and calling itself as “I”? What is this set that gives itself the name “I"? What is the truth about this “me,” about this person? What is the truth of this “I” that thought says is “me”? What’s the truth about it? What is this set? Examining yourself, becoming aware of yourself, having this vision of Self-Awareness is being able to discard the illusion of this set that calls itself “I,” then we have the end of the illusory sense of a “person,” of a present identity. And this represents the end of the illusion of a particular “I”-centered, ego-centered life. So, we do have the answer to the questions “What is the Awakening of Consciousness?,” “What is Spiritual Enlightenment?” and “What is life?,” because, until then, what we have called “life” consists of all this psychological, physical confusion in our relationship with these closest people, in these contacts that we have, both in action and in relation to them, as well as with objects, with situations, with everything that is shown, with everything that presents itself.
So, the Truth of Self-Awareness requires an observation of oneself, then you have the unique opportunity, then what I have considered the most important thing in existence happens, which consists of the very understanding of this Totality of life. Not of this particular life, but of this Totality of life, which is Self-Awareness, bringing about thus the Awakening of the Truth of Meditation. Meditation is the most sublime, most extraordinary thing, it is the key that opens this understanding of the Totality of life, of the Awakening of Real Consciousness in each one of us. That Real Consciousness is no longer that egoic consciousness, that consciousness of the “I.” The Totality of this life in this understanding due to the True Meditation, correct Meditation... Here on the channel, we have a playlist about this True Meditation, the truth of Meditation, not about all you've read, heard or been researching about meditation. Correct Meditation, True Meditation is what opens up the revelation of that understanding. The understanding of oneself is the end of the illusion of this “me,” it is the revelation of this Awakening of Real Consciousness, which represents the understanding of this Totality of life. This Meditation is not a relaxation practice, a concentration practice, a constant struggle to push thoughts out, or all the other stuff you've been reading, hearing, or researching about meditation. The right Meditation blossoms when there is that Revelation of the Truth of how thought proceeds within you, how feeling, emotion and sensation proceed.
The direct, non-intellectual, the experiential understanding of these reactions, of each thought, of each emotion, of each sensation, of each perception, whatever is going on inside you, internally and externally, the direct understanding of it by Self-Awareness reveals Something out of that “I,” then that which is True Meditation, correct Meditation shows itself. So, we have two aspects here about Meditation: the first is that True Meditation is only possible when there is this approach to Self-Awareness; The second aspect of this Real Meditation is that when there is this Real Meditation, because there is a new condition outside of this illusion of separation, of this “I” and not “I,” of this thinker and thought, of this feeler and feeling, of this that is alive and life, when there is an end to that separation, an end to that illusion, we have the second aspect of True Meditation which is the Revelation of the Unknown, of That which is nameless, of that Reality which some call God – but we remain only in the theoretical and verbal aspect of this word, without actually accessing It, without having this direct understanding of It.
The Truth of Meditation, the Truth of that True Meditation, that correct Meditation, reveals the Totality of life, the Mystery beyond body, mind and world – the Sages in India call it Samadhi. Samadhi is the Revelation of this second aspect, of what I have called living this Meditation, this correct Meditation; your Being, which is Consciousness, has blossomed, this is the presence of life in its Totality, your Natural State of Being, free of the “I,” free of the ego, free of the illusion of the sense of separation and therefore the Revelation of that life in its Totality. This is the presence of Love, this is the presence of Beauty, this is the presence of Truth, this is the Real Presence of God.
